For safe and efficient operation

This unit is designed to operate on + 12 volt DC negative ground electrical systems

only.

According to this manual, install and operate the unit. If you are not confident in your ability to install the unit correctly, have it installed by a proffesional mobile electronics installation technician.

Do not try to open the unit nor to repair it yourself. If servicing is required, return the unit to an authorized SANYO mobile audio dealer.

When clean out the car, be sure not to get any water on the unit because it can be damaged.

Never put any other object in the Disc slot. The inside of the unit is precision equip-

ment that could be damaged by any foreign objects.

For safe driving;

Keep the sound low enough to enable you to hear outside sound when driving. Do not exchange the CDs, adjust the volume, nor any other operation which dis-

turbs your safe drive, when driving.

When not using the unit, do not forget to remove the CD. Do not leave the ejected

CD sitting on the edge of the unit for a long time. This can expose the CD to direct sunlight and other causes of warping. Keep the disc away from direct sunlight.

0 This unit plays an 8 cm CD just like a 12 cm CD without an adapter. Do not use an

8 cm CD Adapter. Using a 8 cm CD Adapter will result in a mal function.

Temperature The unit may not operate correctly in extreamely hot or cold temperature. If this should happen, stop using the unit

until1

the temperature becomes normal.

The unit is equipped with a built in self protection circuit. When the temperature

inside the unit goes above the reference temperature, the protection circuit automatically stops the play and ejects the CD. In this case, open the window to cool off the car, then start up the unit again.

Condensation Moisture can condense on the optical lens of the unit during rainy and humid days, or right after the heater is turned on in the car. If this should happen, the unit cannot read the CD and therefore cannot function properly.To remedy the situation, remove the CD from the unit and wait

until1

the condensation evaporates (approxi-

mately one hour).

Sound skip

When you are driving on a rough road, sound may sometimes be skipped. It is

inevitable and will not cause any damage, disc scratch, e.t.c.

Handling the CDs

Dirt, dust, scratches and warpage cause sound skips during playback and a deterioration of sound quality. How to take care of your discs:

Use compact discs that have the mark shown on the right.

Fingerprints and dust should be carefully wiped off the disc’s signal surface (glossy side) with a soft cloth. Unlike conventional records, the compact disc has no grooves to collect dust and microscopic debris, so gently wiping with a soft cloth should remove most particles. Wipe in a straight motion from the inside to the outside of the disc. Small dust particles or light stains will have absolutely no effect on

reproduction quality.

Never use such chemicals as record sprays, antistatic sprays or fluids, benzine or thinner to clean compact discs. Such chemicals would irreparably damage the disc’s plastic surface.

Disc should be put back in their cases after use to avoid serious scratches that could cause the sound skip.

Do not expose discs to direct sunlight, high humidity, or high temperatures for

extended periods of time. Long exposure to high temperatures can warp the disc.

Do not stick paper or write anything with a ball-point pen on the disc surface.

When you insert a CD into the Disc slot, CD play will start automatically.

Note:

With each press, the level changes. But the Audio level shown on the display

does not change with every press. Use it to know the rough level.

Loudness (LOUD)

Press the Loudness button (

to emphasize the Bass and Treble range at low listening level. [LOUD] appears on the display. To cancel the mode, press the button again.

Selecting a prior display

You can choose Clock display or Mode display as prior display. When you choose Clock display, time is shown on the display at all times.

When you choose Mode display, the display corresponds to the current mode (CD

Radio / Changer ).

Clock operation

The following operations are effective while the power is on. Though the Clock display is shown when the power is off, you can not adjust nor set the time.

How to load, play, remove a CD

How to load and play a CD

1. Insert a CD into the Disc slot with the label side facing up. The Disc set indicator [DISC IN] will appear and CD play will begin.

Notes:

When you insert a disc, make sure that the label side is up. If the CD is placed

upsidedown, [E !

will appear and the unit will eject the CD automatically.

Do not insert another CD when the Disc set indicator [DISC IN] is shown.

Because the Disc slot can accomodate only one CD.

You can not insert a CD when the ACC is off.

Do not use an 8 cm CD Adapter. The unit plays 8 cm CD just like a 12 cm CD

without an adapter.

2. Adjust the volume and tone quality. (See page 8 “Audio control”.)

Hint:

After the whole CD has been played, play will start again from the beginning of

the first track.

How to remove a CD

Press the Eject button

Hints:

When you insert the CD into the Disc slot again, play starts from the beginning of

the first track.

When you turn on ACC after having turned it off during CD play, the unit starts CD

play from the point at which you stopped the play by turning ACC off.

If the unit is left in the Pause mode for more than 5 minutes, the power will switch

off automatically.

Press the LO / DX button (G ) for 1.5 seconds or more to select the desired seek sensitivity. With each press, [DX] indicator appears and disappears.

To receive local stations with strong signals, make the [DX] indicator disappear. To receive distant stations with weaker signals, make the [DX] indicator appear.

Presetting stations

How to preset

Select the desired band (FM1 , FM2, AM) and tune to the station to be

memo-

rized.

2. Press the desired preset button for 1.5 seconds or more.

3. To preset additional stations, repeat procedure 1 and 2.

How to recall

Select the desired band and press the desired preset button.

memorize the 6 strongest stations.

How to preset

1. Select the desired band (FM or AM).

2. Press the Auto travel preset button (

(for about 1.5 seconds). The indicator [ATP] will flash on and off. The unit will

scan the band for the strongest 6 stations and automatically memorize them.

Scanning will stop and the first memorized station will be heard.

Notes:

If all stations are weak, none may be memorized. If this should occur,

[OOO]

will

appear on the display. The station received last will be selected.

If there are fewer than 6 receivable stations, the unit will memorize all the receiv-

able stations, then the first memorized station will be selected.

How to recall

Select the desired band and press the Auto travel preset button (

than 0.5 seconds. Each time the button is pressed, the remaining ATP station will

be selected in the order they were memorized.

1. According to this manual, connect a compatible SANYO CD Changer (FXD-C300,

FXD-CGOO, FXD-CIOO)

to this unit.

2. Aocording to the manual of CD changer, load discs into magazine and install the magazine to the CD changer.

Hint:

You can connect a second CD Changer. (See below. “Changer select button’)

Using a separately available SANYO Divider unit

(FTP-CH1 S), a second CD Changer can be connected. When you connect two CD Changers, select the

desired CD Changer with this button. With each press, the Changer No. indicator [@I

According to the manuals of CD changers and Divider unit, set the ID switches of

CD changers beforehand.

This button is not effective when only one CD changer is connected.

How to play CDs

Hint:

When the CD Changer is used for the first time, or when the CD magazine has

been changed, play will begin from the first track of the first disc.

Pause

Press the Play / Pause button (@g.,, ) during play to stop the play temporarily.

To resume play from the point at which play was stopped, press the button again.

Note:

If the unit is left in the Pause mode for more than 5 minutes, the power will switch

off automatically.

Selecting a disc

Shuffle

Press the Shuffle button

to play the tracks on the currently selected disc in random order. When all the tracks have been played, they will be played again in a different order. To cancel the mode, press the button again, or the unit continues Shuffle play endlessly.

Note:

Before Wiring and Installation

General

This unit is designed to be operated on + 12 volt DC negative ground electrical

systems. The unit cannot be operated on + 24 volt or positive ground electrical sys-

According to this manual, wire and install the unit. If you are not confident in your

ability to install the unit correctly, have it installed by a proffesional mobile electron-

Wiring

Be sure to turn off the ignition and remove the negative (-) battery cable, prior to wiring. Note: When you remove the negative (-) battery cable, all the equipments supplied by the car battery (Clock, on-board drive or navigation computer, e.t.c.) may stop working or lose their memory.

Connect the power leads (Red and Yellow) after all other connections have been

made.

Be sure to locate the wiring away from the Shift lever, Hand brake, Seat rail, e.t.c.

Keep the leads away from the areas subject to high temperatures, such as near

the heater outlets.

Speaker wiring

Be sure to observe the wiring polarity (+) and (-) to ensure that the speakers are

connected correctly.

The impedance of the speakers should be 4 - 8

Do not connect any speaker wires to the metal body or chassis of the vehicle.

Connect each speaker wire directly to each speaker terminal.

Do not use the speaker wires supplied inside the vehicle unless you are sure that

there are separate positive and negative leads for each speaker.

Where it interferes with the opening and closing of glove box or ash tray

Installation of the unit

Mount the unit firmly in place to prevent shaking.

Inclination angle:

Install the unit as close to a horizontal position as possible. If the unit must be inclined, the angle should be 30” or less.

Be sure to use the supplied accessories for installation.

Do not use any of the screws that are part of the brake or steering system, to

install the unit.

Be careful not to snag any wires.

When drilling the dashboard, make sure there is nothing behind it beforehand.

When wiring and installation is finished

Make sure that all the electrical equipment (break lamps, lights, horn, flasher, wipers, e.t.c.) operate normally.

1. Antenna socket

Insert the DIN Antenna plug installed in your vehicle into this socket.

2. Ground wire (Black)

Connect this wire to the vehicle chassis.

3. + 12V Accessory/Ignition wire (Red)

Connect this wire to

terminal that receives power while the ignition switch is ON

or in the Accessory (ACC) position.

Never connect the wire to the car battery directly or the car battery may be drained.

Note:

the vehicle does not have an ACC terminal, connect this wire to a terminal which

receives

12V

power while the ignition switch is On, and stands 4A or more of elec-

tric current.

Connect this wire to + 12V power terminal that receives power continuously, and stands 4A or more of electric current .

Notes:

The Fader control will have no effect on the output when using a two speaker

installation. Under this condition, set the Fader control to the

‘V’position.

When not using a Power antenna, cover the end of the Power antenna control wire

(Blue) with electrical tape, to prevent it from shorting to the unit or the vehicle chassis.

How to connect CD Changer(s)

The CDF-R800 has a built-in CD Changer controller. You can upgrade your vehicle system by adding of up to two compatible SANYO CD Changers.

Note: When connecting the CD Changer(s), read the manuals of the CD Changer(s) and the Divider unit as well as this manual.

Connect the end of DIN cable (8 pin), which is supplied with the SANYO CD Changer, to the CD Changer DIN socket of CDF-R800, and connect the other end to the CD Changer.

Note: The ID Switch of CD changer should be set to

“1”position

A separately available SANYO Divider unit (FTP-CH1 S) is necessary to connect two

CD Changers. As to the details, follow the manual of Divider unit.

Installation

1. Install the supplied trim panel (Fig.

Unit removal

1. Insert the supplied removing levers into the two holes provided on each side of the trim panel.

2. Move the tips of levers upward, and press them against the unit. Make sure a distinctive clicking is

heard.

3. Pull the levers to remove the unit.
