Setting Up Your Device

Install the battery by:
1. Grasping the device firmly and locating the cover
release latch.

2. Placing your finger nail in the opening and firmly
“pop” the cover off the device (similar to a soda can).
Caution!: Do not bend or twist the back cover excessively.
Doing so may damage the cover.
3. Insert the battery into the opening in the back of
the device, making sure the connectors align and gently press down to secure the battery.
4. Position the battery cover over the battery
compartment and press down until you hear a click.
5. Press and Hold to turn on the device.
Note: If your device is activated, it turns on, searches for Boost
Mobile service, and enters standby mode.
Unlocking Your Device Screen
To unlock your phone from this screen, swipe
upward with your finger on the screen.

Mobile ID
An exclusive service from Boost Mobile, Mobile ID is loaded with a variety of “ID packs” for Android powered phones. Each pack is a customized experience of the best applications, widgets, shortcuts, wallpapers and ringers.

Setting Up Service
You can install as many as many as six ID packs including MyID at any one time, and you can easily switch from one ID Pack to another without losing any applications already installed.
Installing Your First ID Pack
1. Press and tap > Mobile ID.
Note: Your device must be activated, your battery should be
fully charged, and you should be in a network coverage area before you install an ID Pack.
2. On the Choose Your ID screen, tap Get New ID
Packs.
3. Touch an ID Pack on the Mobile ID > Get New ID
Packs screen. Read the information screen for a
description of the ID Pack and touch
4. Touch Agree to accept the Terms & Conditions.
5. If prompted, touch Continue on any following
screens until you see the progress icon in the upper-left corner of your screen.

Making Calls

1. From the Home screen, tap and use the
on-screen keypad to enter the number you wish to dial.
2. Tap to make the call.
Ending a Call
Tap the key.
End call

Setting Up Your Voicemail

Your device automatically transfers all unanswered calls to your voicemail, even if your device is in use or turned off. You should set up your Voicemail and personal greeting as soon as your device is activated. Always use a password to protect against unauthorized access.

Note: Voicemail Password
Boost Mobile strongly recommends that you create a password when setting up your voicemail to protect against unauthorized access. Without a password, anyone who has access to your device is able to access your voicemail messages.

Account Passwords

As a Boost Mobile customer, you enjoy unlimited access to your personal account information, your voicemail account, and your data services account. To ensure that no one else has access to your information, you will need to create passwords to protect your privacy.
Voicemail Password
You will create your voicemail password (or passcode) when you set up your voicemail. See “Setting Up Your Voicemail” on page 4.

411 gives you access to a variety of services and information, including residential, business and government listings, movie listings or showtimes, driving directions, restaurant reservations and major local event information. You can get up to three pieces of information per call, and the operator can automatically connect your call at no additional charge.

Key Functions
1. Earpiece lets you hear the caller and automated
prompts.
2. LED Indicator lights when charging, you have
missed events, or incoming notifications. The light turns on by default unless you turn it off.
3. Status Bar Icons provide information about your
device’s status and options, such as signal strength, wireless technology, ringer setting, messaging, and battery charge.
4. Display Screen displays all the information needed
to operate your device, such as the call status, the Contacts list, and the date and time. Also provides one-touch access to all of your features and applications.
5. Menu Key allows you to access your device’s main
functions menu: Edit, Create folder, Search, and Settings. While in a menu, press to open a list of actions available from the current screen or onscreen option.
6. Microphone allows other callers to hear you clearly
when you are speaking to them.
7. Home Key returns you to the Home Screen. Press
and hold to open the recently-used applications window.
8. Back Key When in a menu, pressing the Back key
returns you to the previous menu, closes a dialog box, or exits an onscreen menu/option.
9. Front Facing Camera allows you to take pictures
and videos of yourself when you set the camera shooting mode to Front portrait.
10. Proximity/Light Sensor uses the ambient light level
to adjust keypad access. If the light path is blocked, for example, when holding the phone close to your ear, the touch screen will turn off.

camera, this lens lets you take pictures and videos

3. Camera flash helps illuminate subjects in low-light
environments when the camera is focusing and capturing a photo or video.
4. Volume Button allows you to adjust the ringer
volume in standby mode, the voice volume during a call, and media playback volume.
5. microSD Card* Slot lets you use a microSD card to
expand the memory of your phone.
6. Power Button lets you turn the device on or off,
or turn off the touchscreen display.
When the screen is turned off, press once to
return to Screen lock mode.
While the device is unlocked and not on an active
call, press and hold to display the Phone options menu (Silent mode, Airplane mode, Power off).

Viewing the Display Screen

Your device’s display screen provides information about your device’s status and options. This list identifies the symbols you’ll see on your device’s display screen:
Status Bar – Status Icons
Signal Strength – Shows your current signal
strength. (More bars = stronger signal.)
Battery Strength – Shows your current battery
charge level. (Icon shown is fully charged.)
Battery Charging – Shows your current battery
charge level and indicates it is charging.
Battery Critical – Shows your current battery
charge level requires attention and your device will soon shut off.
Wi-Fi Connected – Wi-Fi is connected, active
and communicating with a Wireless Access Point (WAP).

Wi-Fi Direct Connected – Displays when Wi-Fi
Direct is active and configured for a direct connection to another compatible device in the same direct communication mode.
3G Available – Boost 3G data service is

or receive calls or provide data access. Local applications are still available.
Data Synchronization – Application sync is
active and synchronization is in progress for Gmail, Calendar and Contacts.

Alarm Event – Shows you have an upcoming
alarm event.
Silence – All incoming sounds are turned off.

Installing the Battery

Removing the Battery
1. Make sure the power is off so that you don’t lose
any stored numbers or messages.
2. Grasp the device firmly, locate the cover release
latch, and then place your fingernail in the opening and firmly “pop” the cover off the device.
3. Carefully remove the battery from the device.
WARNING: Do not handle a damaged or leaking Li-Ion
battery as you can be burned.
Charging the Battery
Keeping track of your battery’s charge is important. If your battery level becomes too low, your device

automatically turns off and you will lose any information you were just working on.
Always use a Samsung-approved desktop charger, travel charger, or vehicle power adapter to charge your battery.
Plug the first end of the charger into the phone’s
charger jack and the other end into an electrical outlet.
With the Samsung-approved Li-Ion battery, you can recharge the battery before it completely runs down.

Navigation and Customization

The Samsung Galaxy RushTM is a touch-sensitive device which allows you to select onscreen options with a single tap, and also scroll through long menu lists. Simply slide up and down through the display with your fingertip.
Tip: Some menu options are also accessed by pressing and
holding an onscreen item, such as a Contact entry from the Contacts tab.

The Home Screen is the starting point for many applications and functions, and it allows you to add items like application icons, shortcuts, folders, or widgets to give you instant access to information and applications.
Press from any menu to access the default page.
Status bar, located at the top of the screen, displays
both Notification and Status icons.
Status area displays icons associated with the status
of the device such as communication, coverage, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi communication, battery levels, GPS, etc.
Notification area displays icons associated with end-
user notifications such as: email messages, calls (missed, call in progress), new voicemail, upcoming events, a USB connection, and text/MMS.
Main Display a customizable screen that provides
information about notifications and device status, allows access to application widgets.
Shortcuts are icons that launch available device
applications such as Camera, Samsung App, and Play Store.
Widgets are self-contained onscreen applications
(not shortcuts). These can be placed onto any of the available screens (Home or Extended).
Extended Home Screens are screens that extend
beyond the current visible screen width to provide more space for adding icons, widgets, and more.
There are seven available screens. Three of those
screens are populated with default shortcuts or widgets, and four empty screens to customize. There are seven white dots in the middle, lower

portion of the screen. The boldest, white dot indicates the current page.
Note: The Status bar is visible across all Home screens.
Screen #3 is the Home screen.
Applications tab accesses all of your available
applications. Some of these applications also exist as Widgets to place onto an available screen.

All of the application icons are accessed through this tab.

that syncs itself to either your Google or

calendar (page 76). Events can only be
Outlook synced to a managed account (page 48).

Google+ – Google+ makes messaging and
sharing with your friends a lot easier. You can set up Circles of friends, visit the Stream to get updates from your Circles, use Messenger for fast messaging with everyone in your Circles, or use Instant Upload to automatically upload videos and photos to your own private album on Google+ (page 129).
Internet – Launches the Web browser
(page 113). The browser is fully optimized and comes with advanced features to enhance Internet browsing on your device.
Application Icons
Latitude – Lets you see your friends' locations
and share yours with them. The application also lets you See your friends' locations on a map or in a list (page 137).
Local – Allows others to find your business on
local search results using either Google Search or Google Maps (page 137).
Maps – Launches Google Maps for mobile that
helps you find local businesses, locate friends, view maps and get driving directions (page 136).
Memo – Launches the Memo application.
Messaging – Provides access to your text
messaging application (SMS) (page 109).
Messenger – Messenger allows you to bring
groups of friends together into a simple group conversation. When you get a new conversation in Messenger, Google+ sends an update to your phone. (page 130).

Creating Shortcuts
Learn how to add, move, or remove items from the home screen.

to display your current applications.

4. Touch and hold the application icon. This creates

Adding and Removing Primary Shortcuts
You can change any of your primary shortcuts with the exception of the Apps shortcut. The primary shortcuts are the bottom row of application shortcuts that remain static on all home screens (by default Phone, Contacts, Messaging, Internet, and Apps).
Note: Before replacing a primary shortcut, you must first add
the replacement shortcut to the Home Screen.

2. Touch and hold the primary shortcut you want to
replace and then drag it to an empty space on any Home screen.
3. Touch and hold the new shortcut and then drag it
to the empty space in the row of primary shortcuts. The new primary shortcut displays on all Home
screens.
Adding and Removing Widgets
Widgets are self-contained applications that reside either in your Widgets tab or on the main or extended Home screens. Unlike a shortcut, the Widget appears as an onscreen application. Widgets can include Contacts shortcuts, bookmarks, Facebook status windows, Gmail and email accounts, and many other types of applications.
Adding a Widget

2. Navigate to the desired Home Page.
3. Touch and hold an empty area of the Home
screen.
4. Tap Add to Home screen > Apps and widgets, then

Entering Text Using the Samsung Keyboard

The Samsung Keyboard is an onscreen QWERTY keyboard.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Language and
input.
2. Tap to the right of Samsung keyboard to
access these options:
Portrait keyboard types: Select text input method.
Choose from
Input language: Select the text input language.
Choose from
Español.
Qwerty or 3x4 keyboard.
Use system language, English, or
Predictive text: Enables the predictive text entry
mode. This must be enabled to gain access to the advanced settings. Tap Predictive text to access the advanced settings.
Continuous input: Enter text by sliding your finger
across the keyboard without lifting your finger.
Keyboard swipe: Swipe the keyboard horizontally
between letters and symbols.
Handwriting: The phone recognizes onscreen
handwriting and convert it to text.
Voice input: Activates the Voice input feature. This
feature uses Google’s networked speech recognition application to convert speech into text.
Auto capitalization: Automatically capitalizes the
first letter of the first word in each sentence (standard English style).
Auto-punctuate: Automatically inserts a period at
the end of a sentence when you tap the space bar twice while using the onscreen QWERTY keyboard.
Character preview: Provides an automatic preview
of the current character selection within the text
string. This is helpful when multiple characters are available within one key.
Key-tap vibration: Key-tap vibration enables
vibration when you tap an onscreen key.
Key-tap sound: Enables auditory feedback when
you tap an onscreen key.
Tutorial: Launches a brief onscreen tutorial
covering the main concepts related to the Samsung keyboard.
Reset settings: Reverts the Samsung Keyboard
settings you applied back to their defaults.

Creating a Google Account

You will need a Google account to access several device features such as Gmail, Google Maps, Google Talk, and the Google Play Store applications.

Call Using the Keypad
The most “traditional” way to place a call is by using the phone’s dialer screen.
1. Press and tap .
2. Tap the number keys on the dialpad to enter the
phone number.
Tip: As you enter digits, Smart Dial searches for contacts that
match. If you see the number you want to dial, tap it to place the call immediately without entering the rest of the number.
3. Tap to place the call.
4. Tap to end the call.
End call
Calls From Logs
All incoming, outgoing and missed calls are recorded in the Call log. You can place a call to numbers or contacts that display in this area.
1. Press and tap .
2. Tap the Logs tab. A list of recent calls displays.
3. Tap the contact to call, then tap to place a
call.
Tip: Swipe the entry left to right to place a call or from right to
left to send a message.

You can place calls to 911 even if the phone’s screen is locked or your account is restricted.

Answer an Incoming Call
The following procedure shows you how to answer an incoming call.
When the call comes in, touch and slide to
the right to answer the call.
Mute the Ringing Sound
You can mute the ringtone without rejecting the call by press the volume button down.

Receive Phone Calls

When you receive a phone call from a contact, the Incoming call screen display the caller ID icon, name, and phone number of the calling party. When you receive a phone call from someone not stored in Contacts, only the default caller ID icon and phone number display on the Incoming call screen.
Note: If your phone is turned off, all calls are automatically
sent to voicemail.

Reject an Incoming Call
When you receive an incoming call, touch and
slide to the left.
Reject a Call with a Text Message
You can automatically reject an incoming call and send a text message to the caller.
1. Touch and slide up Reject call with message.
2. Select an existing message and tap Send.

message.
Call settings: Displays the Call settings menu. see
“Call Settings” on page 37.

Phone Call Options

Dialing Options
1. Press while dialing a call.
2. Tap one of the following options:
Send message: Sends a text message to this
number.
Add to Contacts: Adds this number to the
Contacts list. For more information, see “Add a Contact” on page 67.
Speed dial setting: Displays the contacts assigned
to numbers 2 through 100. The number 1 is reserved for Voicemail.
Add 2-sec pause: Adds a 2-second pause to this
number.
Add wait: Adds a pause to the calling sequence
until you tap a key to continue.
Caller ID
Caller ID identifies a caller by displaying the phone number of the incoming caller.
To hide your number when making a call, follow these steps.
1. Press and tap .
2. Tap the Keypad tab.
3. Tap .
4. Enter a phone number, then tap .
Call Waiting
When you are on a call, Call Waiting alerts you to incoming calls by sounding a tone. Your phone’s screen informs you that another call is waiting and displays the caller’s phone number (if it is available).
To respond to an incoming call while you’re on a call:
1. Slide to the right to place the first caller on
hold and answer the second call.

Tap Swap to switch back to the first caller.
3-way Calling
Note: With 3-Way calling, you can talk to two people at the
same time. When using this feature, the normal airtime rates will be charged for each of the two calls depending on your service plan.
1. Press and tap .

3. Enter a number and tap .
4. When the number connects, tap Add call and dial
the second number. The first caller is placed on hold while dialing the
second number.
5. Tap Merge to merge the calls into a three-way all.
Note: If one person hangs up during the call, you and the
remaining person stay connected. If you are first to hang up, all callers are disconnected.

Call Forwarding
Call Forwarding lets you forward all your incoming calls to another phone number – even when your phone is turned off. You can continue to make calls from your phone when you have activated Call Forwarding.
Important: You are charged a higher rate for forwarded calls.
To activate Call Forwarding:
1. Press and tap .
2. Tap .
3. Enter the area code and number in which to
forward calls.
4. Tap . A tone confirms Call Forwarding
activation.
To deactivate Call Forwarding:
1. Press and tap .
2. Tap .
3. Tap . A message displays and a tone plays
to confirm deactivation.
In-call Options
While on a call, a number of onscreen options display. Tap an option to select it.
Add call: Displays the keypad so you can dial another
number.
Keypad: Displays the keypad.End call: Terminates the call.Speaker: To hear audio through the speaker.Mute/Unmute: Mutes the microphone. Tap again to
unmute.
Headset: Connects to a Bluetooth headset. Tap again
to disconnect.

Contacts: Displays the Contact list.Memo: Create a memo during a call.
Speed Dialing
You can assign a shortcut to dial a phone number in your Contacts List for speed dialing. There are one hundred available numbered spaces. The number 1 is reserved for Voicemail.

3. Tap a Not assigned slot, then tap a contact to
assign to this number. The selected number displays in the speed dial
number area.
Remove a Speed Dial Number

4. Tap the X next to the speed dial entry to remove.

Voicemail

The phone automatically transfers all unanswered calls to voicemail, even when the phone is in use or turned off. You should set up your voicemail and personal greeting as soon as your phone is activated. Always use a password to protect against unauthorized access.
Set Up Voicemail Through the Phone Application
The following steps will guide you through setting up your voicemail using the Phone application.
Your phone automatically transfers all unanswered calls to your voicemail, even if your phone is in use or turned off.
1. Press and tap .
2. Touch and hold to dial voicemail.

Voicemail Notification
There are several ways the phone alerts you to a new message.
Playing the assigned ringtone type.Displaying within the Notifications area of the Status
bar when a single new unheard voicemail message is received.
Visual Voicemail
Visual Voicemail provides a quick and easy way to access voicemail. You can locate one message without listening to every voicemail message. This new feature periodically retrieves caller information from all of the current voicemails and populates a list with the caller name and number, along with the length of time and priority level of the voicemail message.
Set Up Visual Voicemail
Setting up Visual Voicemail uses the same procedures as setting up regular voicemail.
Your phone automatically transfers all unanswered calls to your voicemail, even if your phone is in use or turned off.
1. Press and tap > Voicemail.
The first time you access the Voicemail application the Personalize your voicemail prompt displays.
2. Ta p Personalize now to access the voicemail setup
program.
3. Follow the system prompts to:

While reviewing a voicemail message these options are available:
Call: to call the contact who left the voicemail
message.
Reply: to reply to the message, then touch
Send to delivery the new message. You can
reply to the sender or forward the message to another recipient with an email address or phone number. You can send this voicemail message to multiple recipients. You can tag the reply message for both Urgency and Privacy.
Speaker Off/On: to turn the speakerphone on
or off during playback. If the speakerphone feature is enabled, the speakerphone is automatically enabled during voicemail playback.
Delete: to delete the current voicemail
message. The message is moved to the Deleted folder.

Listen to Multiple Voicemail Messages
When you are done listening to a voicemail message you can easily access other voicemail messages without returning to the main voicemail screen.
1. Press and tap > Voicemail.
2. Listen to the first voicemail message, then swipe
your finger left or right to display the next or previous message. The message automatically begins playing.
Visual Voicemail Settings
Use the Menu button to access and configure Visual Voicemail settings.
1. Press and tap > Voicemail.
2. Tap > Settings and select one of the following
options:
Manage subscription: Subscribe to the Voice-to-
Text transcription service.
Note: Use of the Voice-to-Text service may require additional
fee.
Auto forward to email: Sends a copy of new

Advanced Wi-Fi Settings
The advanced Wi-Fi settings allow you to set up and manage wireless access points.

Network Notification: alerts you when a new WAP
is available.
Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep: allows you to specify
when to disconnect from Wi-Fi. Options are: Always, Only when plugged in, or Never (increase data usage).
Wi-Fi timer: schedules Wi-Fi operations to keep
Wi-Fi enabled when charging the phone.
MAC address: view your phone’s MAC address,
required when connecting to some secured networks (not configurable).
IP address: view your phone’s IP address.
Bluetooth Settings
Bluetooth settings activate Bluetooth, view or assign a name for the phone, activate the phone so other Bluetooth devices can discover it, or scan and pair with other Bluetooth devices.

Data Usage
Use this feature to view Mobile data usage and turn Mobile data capability On or Off.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Data usage.
2. Ta p Mobile Data (a green checkmark indicates that
the feature is turned on).
3. Tap Set mobile data limit to turn off the mobile data
connection when it reaches the configured limit.
4. Tap and drag the far right ends of the Red and
Orange horizontal lines to manually adjust the Warning and Maximum data limits.
5. Touch and drag the bottom, gray vertical lines to
adjust the time frames.
6. Tap the Data usage cycle menu and select a date.
The Data usage chart displays as well as a list of each application with a breakdown of how many Megabytes each application used.
WARNING: Data usage displayed/measured by your phone
may differ from your carrier's measured data usage and is not guaranteed as the actual usage measured by your carrier. Please check with your carrier for actual data usage.

Wi-Fi Direct allows device-to-device connections so you can transfer large amounts of data over a Wi-Fi connection.

2. Tap the Wi-Fi Direct OFF/ON slider to turn
on Wi-Fi Direct. For more information about Wi-Fi Direct, see

Mobile Networks
Before you use applications such as Google Maps and find your location or search for places of interest, you must enable the Mobile networks options.

Call Settings

Your phone's Call Settings menu lets you configure your voicemail options and a number of other settings for the phone application.
1. Press and tap .

3. Configure the following call settings:
Set reject messages: manages both existing
rejection messages and creates new ones.
Call alert: allows you to assign call alert tones and
activate call alerts and vibration.
Call vibrations: vibrates the phone when the
called party answers.
Call status tones: assigns sounds settings
during the call.
Alerts on call: selects whether alarm and
message notification is turned off during a call.
The power key ends calls: press the power key to
end the current call.
Auto screen off during calls: turns on the proximity
sensor so the screen turns off during a call to save power.
Accessory settings for call: configures call settings
when using a regular or Bluetooth headset.
Automatic answering: automatically answers a
call using a connected headset.

Automatic answering: adjusts the delay time
before automatically accepting incoming calls using a headset. Selections are: 2 seconds, 5 seconds, and 10 seconds.
Outgoing call conditions. When activated you
can use a Bluetooth headset to call even when the phone is locked.
Increase volume in pocket: increases the ringtone
volume when the device is in a pocket or bag.
US dialing: allows you to have the phone
automatically dial the international access code for your location. See “Activating Plus Code Dialing” on page 39.
International dialing: allows you to set a prefix for
international calls. By default, the international dialing prefix (code) is set to 011. This code cannot be changed until the feature is temporarily disabled. Once disabled, the field becomes accessible and can be altered. See “Changing the International Dialing Code” on page 40.
TTY mode: allows you to enable TTY (also known
as a TDD or Text Telephone). See “TTY Use” on page 40.

DTMF tones: This option sets the length of Dual-

DDTM: allows you to send calls to during an
active data connection.
Voicemail settings: allow you to choose the

and configures incoming call preferences. See “Adding an Internet Calling Account” on page 41.
Receive incoming calls: maintains a connection

TTY Use
A TTY (also known as a TDD or Text Telephone) is a telecommunications device that allows people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or who have speech or language disabilities, to communicate by telephone.
Your device is compatible with select TTY devices. Please check with the manufacturer of your TTY device to ensure that it is compatible with digital cell phones. Your device and TTY device will connect via a special cable that plugs into your phone’s headset jack.
Contact your TTY device manufacturer to purchase the connector cable if one was not provided with the device.

3. Tap TTY mode then tap TTY Full, TTY HCO, or
TTY VCO.
WARNING: 911 Emergency Calling
Boost Mobile recommends that TTY users make emergency calls by other means, including Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS), analog cellular, and landline communications. Wireless TTY calls to 911 may be corrupted when received by public safety answering points (PSAPs), rendering some communications unintelligible. The problem encountered appears related to software used by PSAPs. This matter has been brought to the attention of the FCC, and the wireless industry and the PSAP community are currently working to resolve this.
Internet Call Settings
Internet calls use the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) for voice calls on Internet Protocol (IP) networks. Using these settings you can add an Internet calling account so you can place and receive Internet calls.
Important: You must be connected to a Wi-Fi network and
add an Internet calling account to use Internet calling.
Once the account is configured for Internet calling, you can configure the settings to use Internet calling for all calls, you can just place calls to Internet calling addresses, or receive Internet calls.
Adding an Internet Calling Account
1. Press and tap .
2. Ta p > Call settings.
3. Configure the following call settings:
Accounts: Adds a new Internet calling account
and configures incoming call preferences.
Receive incoming calls: maintains a connection
with your Internet calling service provider, so the phone rings and receives the incoming internet call.

General Sound Settings
Silent Mode
Use the Silent mode setting when you want to stop the phone from making any noise. In this mode, the speaker is muted and the phone only vibrates to notify you of incoming calls, or other functions that normally have a defined tone or sound as an alert.

Adjusting the Volume
Adjust the volume settings for both the device and Media playback to suit your needs and environment.

System Tone Settings
The System tone settings are used when you use the dialing pad, make a screen selection, lock your screen, or tap the screen.

Key tones: plays a sound when you tap a key on
the keyboard.
Touch sounds: plays a sound when you touch the
screen.
Screen lock sound: plays a sound when you lock
or unlock the screen.
3. Tap Emergency tone then tap Off, Alert, or Vibrate
to configure whether or not to play a sound, or vibrate when you receive an Emergency alert.
Display Settings
Changing the Brightness
Adjust your screen’s brightness to suit your surroundings.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Display.
2. Ta p Automatic brightness to allow the phone to
automatically adjust the brightness levels. – or –
Brightness, then touch and drag the Brightness
Tap slider left (to decrease brightness) or right to (increase brightness), then tap
Changing the Backlight Time Length
Select how long the display screen remains lit after you press a key.

2. Tap Screen timeout, then tap a time setting (15
seconds through 30 minutes).
Note: Long screen backlight settings reduce the battery’s talk
and standby times.

Changing the Screen Orientation
Although most screens change orientation if you rotate the phone into a landscape position, you can manually enable the feature to change the orientation for all screens when they are rotated.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Display.
2. Tap Auto-rotate screen (enabled by default). A
checkmark indicates activation.
3. Clear the Auto-rotate screen checkmark to disable
the automatic adjustment.
Touch Key Light Duration
This feature allows you to set the delay time before the Touch key light (keys located at the bottom of the phone) automatically turns off.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Display.
2. Tap Key backlight duration and touch a duration.

Font settings allows you to set the font style and size used on the phone’s screen.

Use these settings to configure additional Display settings.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Display.
2. Tap Display battery percentage to display the
percentage of available battery power on the screen.
Wallpaper
You can customize the screen’s wallpaper image on the Home screen, Lock screen, or you can place the same image on both the Home and lock screens.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Wallpaper.
2. Select the screen(s) in which to change the
wallpaper. Selections:
Home and lock screens.
Home screen, Lock screen, or
3. Select a location in which to search for wallpaper,
then select a wallpaper image. Selections are:

LED Indicator
Configure the LED lights to indicate when the device is connected to a charger, battery levels are low, or you missed a call, message, or application event.
1. Press and tap > Settings > LED indicator.
2. Tap one of the following to activate the feature:
Charging: LED lights up when the phone is
connected to a charger.
Low battery: LED lights up when the battery level
is low.
Missed event: LED lights up when there are
missed calls, messages, or application events.
Power Saving
Power Saving Mode allows you to manage your phone in order to save power.
When you pull down the Notification panel, the power saving features display at the top of the screen or you can access Power Saving from the Settings menu.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Power saving.
2. Tap the Power saving OFF/ON slider to
activate Power saving mode.
3. Tap Power saving again to configure these options:
CPU power saving: Limits the maximum CPU
performance and conserves battery life.
Screen power saving: Reduces the screens refresh
rate and brightness to extend battery life when the screen is on.

From this menu you can view the memory allocation for the memory card and USB as well as mount or unmount the SD card.

You can download and install applications from the Play Store or create applications using the Android SDK and install them on your phone. Use Applications settings to manage applications.
From this menu you can view memory or resources, as well as view remaining memory and resources for the installed or downloaded applications. You can also clear the data, cache, or defaults.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Application
manager.
2. Ta p t h e Downloaded, Running, or All tab to display
memory usage for this category or applications. The graph at the bottom of the Downloaded tab
displays used and free phone memory. The graph a the bottom of the Running tab displays used and free RAM.

Use Location Services to configure how the phone determines your location.
Use Wireless Networks
Before using applications such as Google Maps to find your location or search for places of interest, you must enable the Use wireless networks option or enable the GPS satellites.

Choose settings for unlocking your screen.

Swipe: Swipe the screen to unlock it.Pattern: A screen unlock pattern is a touch pattern
you create and use to unlock your device. Follow the prompts to create or change the screen unlock pattern.
PIN: Select a PIN to use for unlocking the screen.Password: Create a password for unlocking the
screen.
None: No swipe, pattern, PIN, or password is
required. The screen does not lock.
Lock Screen Options
From this menu you can activate or deactivate various Unlock screen functions.
Note: The Lock screen options are only available when the
Screen lock option is set to Swipe or Motion.

Lock screen options.
2. Select an option:
Shortcuts: Sets shortcuts that display at the
bottom of the Lock screen.
Clock: Displays the digital clock while the Lock
screen is active. Enabled by default.
Dual clock: Displays a set of dual digital clocks on
the Lock screen while traveling. Tap the entry to set your home city. This time zone is the one used by one of these on-screen clocks.
Wea ther: Displays the current area weather on the
Lock screen. Tap and set both the temperature units (F or C) and a refresh time.
Help text: Displays help information on the Lock
screen.
Note: These options vary depending on the selected Lock
settings.
Owner Information
This option displays owner information on the lock screen. You can also enter text to the display screen.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Security >
Owner information.
2. Enter the text to display on the screen in the Owner
information field.
3. Tap the Show owner info on lock screen checkbox if
you want to display the Owner information.
4. Tap OK.
Encryption
To require a numeric PIN or password in order to decrypt your phone each time it is turned on or encrypt the data on the SD card each time it is connected:
1. Press and tap > Settings > Security >
Encrypt device. Read the screen for more
information about encryption.
2. Ta p Encrypt device.
3. Tap Encrypt external SD card to prevent another
user from using your SD card to make unauthorized calls or from accessing information stored on your SD card by protecting the information using a password.
When enabled, your phone will ask for a password each time you use the phone. Using this option you can also change your SD card PIN number.
Important: The battery should be more than 80 percent
charged because encryption could take an hour or more to complete.
Passwords
When enabled, password characters display briefly as they are entered.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Security >
Passwords.
2. Ta p Make passwords visible to enable or diable the
display of password characters.
Device Administration
Select one or more administration application that control your device for security purposes (for example, if your phone is lost or stolen). These applications enforce remote or local device security policies.
Some features a device administrator might control are:

before the device is restored to factory settings.

Credential Storage Trusted Credentials
If a certificate authority (CA) certificate gets compromised or for some other reason becomes unstable, you can disable or remove it.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Security >
Trusted credentials.
Two tabs display:
System: Displays CA certificates that are
permanently installed in the ROM of your device.
User: Displays any CA certificates that were
installed, for example, in the process of installing a client certificate.
2. Tap a CA certificate to examine its details.
3. Scroll to the bottom of the details screen and tap
Disable to disable a System certificate or Remove
to remove a User certificate.
Caution!: When you disable a system CA certificate, the
Disable button changes to Enable, so you can enable the certificate again, if necessary. When you remove a user-installed CA certificate, it is permanently deleted and must be re-installed, if needed.
4. Tap OK to return to the certificate list.
Install from Device Storage
Install encrypted certificates from an installed memory card.
Note: The phone must have an installed memory card
containing encrypted certificates to use this feature.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Security >
Install from device storage.
2. Select a certificate and follow the prompts to install.
Clear Credentials
This feature clears stored credentials.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Security >
Clear credentials.
All certificates are removed.
Language and Input
Use this menu to configure the language to display on menus. You can also set onscreen keyboard options.
Language
Change the language used by your device by following these steps:
1. Press and tap > Settings > Language and Input >
Language.
2. Select a language from the list.
Default Input Method
Change the keyboard used by your device by following these steps:
1. Press and tap > Settings > Language and
Input > Default.
2. Select Samsung keyboard.
3. Ta p Configure input methods. and select Google
voice typing or
Samsung keyboard.
4. Tap the icon next to the input method to
configure the settings.
Google Voice Typing
This feature listens to voice input and translates it into text.

Voice Search
The Voice Search feature is a voice-activated application that allows you to tell the phone what to search for and then the phone activates a Google search based on what was said.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Language and
Input > Voice search.
2. Select one of the following options:

SafeSearch: Filters explicit images when
performing voice searches. Selections:
Moderate, or Strict.
Block offensive words: Blocks recognized

Personalized recognition: Improves speech
recognition and accuracy by allowing Google to associate your recordings with your Google Account.
Google Account dashboard: manages collected
data using your Google account.
Text-to-Speech Output
The Text-to-speech output feature allows the phone to provide a verbal readout of onscreen data such as messages and incoming caller information (based on Caller ID).
1. Press and tap > Settings > Language and
Input > Text-to-speech output. For more information,
see “Text-to-Speech Settings” on page 88.
Backup and Reset Settings
The phone’s Privacy menu includes the Factory Data Reset option. This option lets you reset your phone to the original factory settings, which erases all data from the phone’s application storage, including:
Backup and Restore
The phone can be configured to back up your current settings, application data and settings.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Backup and
reset.
2. Ta p Back up my data to create a backup of the
current phone settings and applications.
3. Tap Backup account to assign the account being
backed up.
4. Tap Automatic restore to assist in the re-installation
of a previously installed application (including preferences and data).
5. Tap Factory data reset to reset your phone and
sound settings to the factory default settings.
Factory Data Reset
From this menu reset the phone and sound settings to the factory default settings.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Backup and
reset > Factory data reset.
2. Read the onscreen reset information then tap
Reset device.
3. If necessary, enter your password and tap Delete
all. The phone resets to the factor default settings.

System Settings

Using the System Settings menu you can configure way the phone behaves when it is docked. You can also configure the phone’s time and date.
Accessory Settings
Accessory settings configure the Dock Sound, output mode for Audio, and Desk home screen display.

Dock Settings
This menu allows you to assign external speakers when the phone is docked.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Accessory.
2. Tap Dock sound to play sounds when you insert or
remove the phone from the dock.
3. Tap Audio output mode to use the external dock
speakers when the phone is docked.
4. Tap Desk home screen display to display the desk
home screen when the phone is docked.
Date and Time Settings
Your phone obtains its time and date information by using the network-provided date, time, and time zone. These values can be manually altered.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Date and time.
2. Tap Automatic date and time to disable the feature.
If enabled, you cannot alter the date, time zone, or time values.
3. Tap Automatic time zone to disable the feature. If
enabled, you cannot alter the time zone values.

4. Tap Set date. Adjust the date, month, and year. Tap
Set when finished.
5. Tap Set time. Adjust the hour and minute. Tap the
am or pm icon to change the value. Tap Set when finished.
6. Tap Select time zone, and then select a time zone
from the onscreen list. Scroll down the list to view additional time zones.
7. Tap Use 24-hour format to toggle between using a
12-hour or a 24-hour format.
8. Tap Select date format to select how the date
information is displayed on your phone. The selected date format is also applied to the date displayed within the phone’s Alarm Clock.
Accessibility Settings
The Accessibility settings menu lets you set several options to simplify phone use and improve accessibility for users with vision or hearing issues.
This service is able to collect all the text you type, including personal data credit card numbers except passwords. It may also log your user interface interactions. Using TalkBack, every interaction and
keypress is explained in audio. The Accessibility menu also allows you to set various vision, hearing, and access options.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Accessibility.
2. Select settings from the following options:
System Settings
Auto-rotate screen: Automatically rotates the
screen from landscape to portrait.
Speak passwords: The phone reads password
information aloud.
The power key ends call: Pressing the Power key
ends the active call.
Accessibility shortcut: Accesses the Accessibility
menu by pressing and holding the Power key.
Screen timeout: Turns the screen off when there is
no activity for a determined amount of time.
TalkBack Settings
This feature uses synthesized speech to describe the results of actions. The following procedures enhance TalkBack capabilities.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Accessibility >
TalkBack.
2. Tap the TalkBack OFF/ON slider to turn
on TalkBack.
3. Ta p Settings and configure the following:
Ringer volume: Provides voice feedback at all
ringer volumes or not to provide voice feedback during silent or vibrate mode.
Speak when screen is off: Provides voice feedback
when the screen is off.
Speak caller ID: Provides voice feedback for caller
ID.
Use proximity sensor: Silences voice feedback
when the proximity sensor is engaged.
Bluetooth output: Provides voice feedback through
Bluetooth connections when available.
Vibration feedback: Increases the vibration
intensity of key presses.
Assign vibration patterns: Select vibration patterns
to differentiate between touchable and clickable items.

Sound feedback: Enables sound feedback when
you touch the screen.
Sound volume: Customizes the volume return
based upon the volume of your voice. Choose from Match speech volume, 75% of speech volume, or 50% of speech volume.
Assign sounds: Select sounds to differentiate
between touchable and clickable items.
Vision
Install Web scripts: Allows applications to
install scripts from Google that make their Web content more accessible. Tap
Negative colors: Reverses the display of
onscreen colors from White text on a Black background to Black text on a White background.
Font size: Changes the size of the fonts used
on the phone within menus, options, etc. Choose from: Tiny, Small, Normal, Large, or Huge.
Hearing
Mono audio: Compresses stereo audio into a
single mono audio stream for use with a single earbud/earphone.

Allow.
Turn off all sounds: Mutes every sound made
by the phone during taps, selections, notifications, and more.
Mobility
Tap and hold delay: Select a time interval for
this action. Choose from:
Short, Medium, or
Long.
Developer Options
Use the Developer Options to set options for application development.
Press and tap > Settings > Developer
options.
Important: These features are used for development
USB Debugging
When enabled, this allows debugging when the phone is attached to a PC by a USB cable.
Press and tap > Settings > Developer
purposes only.

Development Device ID
This is the identification number for your phone when using it as a development tool.
Allowing Mock Locations
If you are a developer who is testing a GPS applications using this device, you can use mock locations to tell the device that the phone is at different GPS locations. The phone is allowed to “mock” the coordinates.
Important: These features are used for development
purposes only.
Press and tap > Settings > Developer options >
Allow mock locations. A checkmark displays to
indicate activation.
Desktop Backup Password
This protects the desktop with a backup password ID.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Developer
options > Desktop backup password.
2. In the Settings screen, enter the current full backup
password, the new password for the full backups, then enter the new password again.
3. Ta p Set backup password to save.
User Interface Options
Configure the user interface by determining the way the screen behaves when using applications or displaying data.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Developer
options.
2. Tap the checkbox next to each option to enable:
Strict mode: Makes the screen flash when
applications perform long operations on the main thread.
Show pointer location: Highlights the data that was
touched on the screen.
Show touches: Displays touch interactions on the
screen.
Show screen updates: Areas of the screen flash
when they update.

Show CPU usage: Screen highlights the current
CPU usage.
Force GPU rendering: Uses a 2D acceleration in
applications.
Window animation scale: Configure the scale for
animation (ranges from off to 10x).
Transition animation scale: Configure the scale for
transitioning when using animation (ranges from off to 10x).
Application Options
These options allow you to manage applications that are running in the background.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Developer
options.
2. Tap Do not keep activities to destroy every activity
as soon as the application is closed.
3. Tap Limit background processes to set the number
of processes that can run in the background. Options are: Standard limit, No background processes, and 1 to 4 processes at most.

4. Tap Show all ANRs to display a prompt when
applications running in the background are not responding.
Activate This Device
This feature allows you to activate your Boost Mobile phone. If your phone is activated, this feature displays information such as your plan type, monthly payment date, and current usage details.
System Update Settings
This feature contains tools that allow you to update the phone to the latest PRL, Profile, Samsung Software, and Firmware. Access this menu on a regular basis to ensure that your phone maintains the most recent system enhancements and security features.
Update PRL
This option allows you to download and automatically update the preferred roaming list (PRL).
1. Press and tap > Settings > System Update
> Update PRL.
2. Follow the onscreen instructions.
Update Profile
This option automatically updates your online user profile information. If you choose to change your user name and select a new one online, you must update the user name on your phone.
1. Press and tap > Settings > System Update
> Update profile.
2. Follow the onscreen instructions.
Note: If your data services or account syncing unexpectedly
stops working, use this feature to reconnect with the network.
Update Samsung Software
Use this feature to upgrade your phone to the latest version of SPH-M830 software for your Samsung Galaxy Rush
1. Press and tap > Settings > System Update

This option displays the battery status, the level of the battery (percentage), the phone number for this phone,

Tip: Swipe the entry left to right to place a call or from right to
left to send a message.
Save a Number from the Call Log

Get Started with Contacts

Here is some basic information about contacts.
You can create a Google contact, a phone contact,
or a Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync contact.
Contacts are stored locally to the phone’s memory.Contact entries are automatically sorted
alphabetically.
Google contacts are shared with your existing
Google account and you can import them to the phone after creating a Google Mail account.
Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync (also known as Work
or Outlook) contacts are those contacts intended to share with either an Exchange Server or from within Microsoft® Outlook®.
Note: Contacts stored locally can be lost if the phone is ever
reset to its factory default parameters.

Access Contacts
Here are two ways to display contacts:
1. Press and tap Contacts.

The Contacts List
Your phone automatically sorts Contact entries alphabetically. You can create either a Google, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, or Phone contact.
1. Press and tap Contacts to display the
Contacts list. The Contacts list displays all contacts stored to the
phone’s memory including Google contacts, Exchange ActiveSync contacts, Phone contacts, and Facebook contacts.
2. Scroll through the list to view all your contacts.
3. Tap a contact entry to view it.
Tip: Tap a letter on the right side of the list to jump directly to
contacts listed under that letter.

4. Press to display these options:
Delete: Erases the currently selected contact(s).Import/Export: Imports or exports the selected
contact information from a specified location.
Merge with Google: Joins your phone contacts
with a Google account accounts.
Accounts: Displays your managed accounts.Speed dial setting: Assigns a speed dial number
to a selected contact.
Send email: Sends an email to the selected
contact using Gmail or Email.
Note: You must add a Google or Email account before
sending an email.
Send message: Send a text message to the
selected contact.
Contacts to display: Selects a specific location
from which to access contacts that display in your Contacts list.
Settings: Displays options for viewing contacts,
including whether to show only contacts with phone numbers and whether to list or display by first name or last name. There is also an option to select how contacts are transferred to another device, either individually or as a full group.
Add a Contact
You can add contacts directly from the Contacts application. Enter details such as name, phone number(s), email address, mailing address, and more.
1. Press and tap Contacts to display the
Contacts list.
2. Tap (at the top of the screen).
3. Tap a destination type (Phone, Google, or Microsoft
Exchange ActiveSync). The Create contact screen
displays.
Note: You must establish a Google or Exchange ActiveSync
account to select a destination.
4. Tap the picture icon to assign a picture to this
entry. There are three selections:
Picture: Retrieves a stored image from your
Gallery or from My files folder and assigns it to this entry. Tap an image to assign the image to the contact, then tap
Take pi cture: Use the camera to take a new
picture and assign it to this entry, then tap
Done.
Save
After you take a picture, you are prompted to crop the picture before assigning it to the contact. When complete, tap
Remove: Although not an option with a new entry,
Done.
deletes any previously assigned image in an existing contact entry.
5. Tap the Name field and use the onscreen keyboard
to enter the full name. – or – Tap to the right of the

Add an Emergency Contact
In Case of Emergency (ICE) contacts are those marked with the letters ‘ICE’ so emergency personnel will know who to contact in case of an emergency if you are unable to communicate that information. For example, if your Mother is your primary emergency contact, list her as ICE
Mom in Contacts. You add an ICE contact
that same way you add a regular contact to your Contacts list, except that you select the Group entry ICE
- emergency contacts to make this contact easy to locate.
For more information on adding a Contact, see “Add a Contact” on page 67.
Save a Phone Number to Contacts
You can save a phone number to Contacts directly from the phone dialpad.
1. Press and tap .
2. Enter a phone number using the onscreen keypad.
3. Tap Add to Contacts.
– or –
4. Press and tap Add to Contacts.
5. Tap Create contact or Update existing. If you are
updating an existing contact, tap the existing contact and proceed to step 7.
6. Tap a destination type (Phone, Google, or Microsoft
Exchange ActiveSync). The Create contact screen opens.
Note: You must establish a Google or Microsoft Exchange
ActiveSync account to select a destination.
7. Tap the picture icon to assign a picture to this
entry. There are three selections:
Picture: Retrieves a stored image from your
Gallery or from My files folder and assigns it to this entry. Tap an image to assign the image to the contact, then tap
Take picture: Use the camera to take a new

Edit a Contact
Once a contact is added to the Contact list, you can add or edit any of the information in the entry, assign a caller ID picture, customize with a unique ringtone, and more.
Add or Edit Information for a Contact
You can modify existing contact information to keep the information up-to-date.
1. Press and tap Contacts to display the
Contacts list.
2. Tap a contact to display it, and then tap > Edit.
Tip: You can also touch and hold the contact and then tap
Edit.
3. Tap any field you want to change or add.
4. Add or edit the information, and then tap Save.
Assign a Stored Picture to a Contact
Adding a picture to a contact entry creates a more personal and easily recognized entry. For example, when receiving a call from one of your contacts, the associated picture displays. Below are procedures for adding a picture already stored in your Gallery.
1. Press and tap Contacts to display the
Contacts list.
2. Tap a contact to display it, and then tap > Edit.
Tip: You can also touch and hold the contact and then tap
Edit.
3. Tap the picture icon, then tap Picture.
4. Tap an onscreen image to prepare it for use.
5. Touch and drag along the sides of the blue border
box to begin cropping the desired area and then tap
Done.
Assign a New Picture to a Contact
Use these steps to add a picture to a contact through taking a new photo.
1. Press and tap Contacts to display the
Contacts list.
2. Tap a contact to display it, and then tap > Edit.
Tip: You can also touch and hold the contact and then tap
Edit.
3. Tap the currently assigned picture, then tap Take
picture.
4. Tap the camera button until the shutter sounds.
5. Touch and drag along the sides of the blue border
box to begin cropping the desired area and then tap
Done.
6. Ta p Save to save the contact.
Assign a Ringtone to a Contact
You can assign a special ringtone to individual contacts
1. Press and tap Contacts to display the
Contacts list.
2. Tap a contact.
3. Ta p Ringtones and select one of the following:

Join a Contact
When you have contacts from various sources (Gmail, phone, Facebook, etc.), you may have multiple similar entries for a single contact. Your phone’s Contacts application lets you link multiple entries into a single contact entry.
1. Press and tap Contacts to display the
Contacts list.
2. Tap a contact, then press > Join contact.
3. Tap another entry to link to the original contact.
Note: You can join up to five contacts in a single entry.
Delete a Contact
You can delete a contact from the contacts details page.
1. Press and tap Contacts to display the
Contacts list.

Tip: You can also touch and hold the contact, then tap
Delete.
3. Tap OK.
Synchronize Contacts
Syncing data from your managed accounts allows you to add and manage a new or existing contact from your online or remote accounts to your phone.
You must create a Google or Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync (Outlook) account with contact entries, and sign in to the account using your phone prior to synchronizing.
When you synchronize, any Contact entries (with phone numbers, email addresses, pictures, etc.) are updated and synchronized with your Samsung Galaxy

To synchronize Gmail contacts:
1. Press and tap > Settings > Accounts and
sync.
2. Tap the Gmail account to view the account’s
synchronization settings.
3. Tap each category to synchronize. You can
synchronize the calendar, contacts, Gmail, Google Photos, Google Play Books, Internet, or Picasa Web albums.
Note: In order to use Sync Picasa Web Albums, Picasa must
be downloaded through your Gmail credentials.
To synchronize Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync contacts:
1. Press and tap > Settings > Accounts and
sync.
2. Tap the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync account to
view the account’s synchronization settings screen.
3. Tap each category to synchronize.
Sync Calendar: synchronizes your Exchange
calendar entries between your phone and the remote Exchange server.
Sync Contacts: synchronizes the contacts
between your phone and the remote Exchange server.
Note: You must log in to your Gmail or Microsoft Exchange
ActiveSync (Outlook) account using the phone before you can synchronize contacts.
Sync Email: synchronizes your exchange email to
any updated email existing on the remote Exchange server.
Sync Tasks: synchronizes your exchange calendar
task entries between your phone and the remote Exchange server.
Add Entries to Favorites
The Favorites tab is a listing that can help you quickly access your most used or preferred Contacts entries.
1. Press and tap Contacts to display the
Contacts list.
2. Touch and hold the entry name from Contacts.
3. Ta p Add to favorites.
Tip: You can add or remove an entry from the Favorites list by
tapping the star on the upper-right portion of the Contacts details page. The star turns orange when added. Tap again to remove.

Contacts
Add Facebook Content to Your Contacts
You can add your Facebook contacts’ information, such as pictures, email, and phone numbers directly to your Contacts list. All of the current contacts’ information is transferred to the phone.
Note: To add Facebook contacts you must have an active
Facebook page populated with friends sharing their contact information.
If a Contacts entry already exists with a slightly different name, separate entries are created that you can link (join) into a single entry. For more information, see “Join a Contact” on page 72.
Add Your Facebook Friends to Your Contacts
Before you can add your friends, you must add your Facebook account to the list of managed and synchronized accounts. This process is similar to synchronizing your email accounts.
This process synchronizes contact information, status, events, and more.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Accounts and
sync.

2. Tap Facebook (for syncing) to view the account’s
synchronization settings.
3. Tap Sync Contacts to synchronize your Facebook
contacts. If you want to synchronize immediately, tap
Sync now.
Create Groups
This feature allows you to add a new or existing contact to a call group. This group can be one of the already created groups (Family, Friends, or Work) or a user-created group.
To create a new group:
1. Press and tap Contacts > Groups.
2. Press and tap Create.
3. Tap th e Group name field and enter a name for the
new group.
4. Tap Group ringtone and select a ringtone for the
group.
5. Tap Vibration pattern and select a vibration pattern
for the group.
6. Tap Add member and select a member(s) to add to
the new Group list.
7. Ta p Done when finished adding members, then
tap
Save.
To send a message to a group:
1. Press and tap Contacts > Groups.
2. Tap an existing group and then press > Send
message.
3. Select the recipients of the new message then tap
Done.
4. Type a message, then tap Send.
Share a Contact
Share contacts using Bluetooth, email, Gmail, or through a text message.
1. Press and tap Contacts.
2. Tap a contact to display, then press > Share
namecard via.
3. Send the current contact information to an external
recipient using one of the following methods:
Bluetooth: Sends the information using Bluetooth.
Note: You must activate Bluetooth before using the Bluetooth
feature and the recipient’s device must be visible.
Email: Sends the information as an email
attachment. If prompted, select an email account. Address the message, add a subject and a message, and then tap Send.
Gmail: Sends the information as a Gmail
attachment. Address the message, add a subject and a message, and then tap Send.
Messaging: Sends the information as an MMS
message attachment. Select a contact or enter a wireless phone number or email address, enter additional information, then tap
Wi-Fi Direct: Sends the information using a
Send.

Before You Begin

You must have an active Google account and sign in before using Google applications such as calendar.
Google Calendar is an application that synchronizes new and existing entries between your Samsung Galaxy Rush
TM
and your online Google account.

Calendar

Use Calendar to create and manage events, meetings, and appointments. Your Calendar helps organize your time and reminds you of important events. Depending on your synchronization settings, your phone’s Calendar stays in sync with your Calendar on the Web, Exchange ActiveSync calendar, and Outlook calendar.
Add an Event to the Calendar
Add events to your Calendar to help you organize your time and remind you of important events.
1. Press and tap > Calendar.
Note: To synchronize calendar events among Google and
Corporate accounts, make sure they are managed by your phone.
2. Tap the circle in the top-right corner of the screen,
then select a view from the available tabs. Selections are:

5. Touch the Calendar field, select an account in
which to assign this event, and then tap

9. Tap the All day checkbox if this events lasts all day.
10. Ta p Repeat and select a recurrence cycle.
Selections are:
weekday(Mon-Fri), Weekly (every [day]), Every 2 weeks(day), Monthly (every [number] [day]), Monthly (on day [number]), or Yearly (on [month] [day]).

11. Enter a location for this event in the Location field,
or tap to select the location from a map.
12. Enter a description for this event in the Description
field.
13. Ta p the Reminders field to select an alarm time.

Customize to enter your own reminder time.
14. Tap to the right of Images to take a new
picture, or add an image from the Gallery.
Note: To send the event to specific contacts via your Email
account, tap “Email” on page 120.

Event Alerts
When the phone is turned on and you have an event alarm scheduled, your phone sounds an alert and displays the event summary. There are several ways your phone alerts for scheduled events:

Event Reminders
When your phone is turned on and you have an event alarm scheduled, there are several ways your phone alerts you to scheduled events:
Playing a short beep.Displaying an icon in the Status bar.
To view additional options:
1. Tap the Status bar, and then slide your finger down

Set snooze duration: Sets the length of time to
allow before you are reminded of the event. Choose from:

View Events
Use this procedure to view your calendar events.
1. Press and tap > Calendar. When an
event is created, the entry displays in the default view.
2. Tap the circle in the top-right corner of the screen,
then tap
Week or Month to view events scheduled
after today.
3. Tap the day in which to view events. (Events
display in chronological order).
4. Tap the event to view details.
Day and List Views
Day view displays a list of the events of one day. List view displays a list of all the events in chronological
order. When in Day view, slide left or right across the screen
to view earlier or later days.
Week View
Week view displays a chart of the events of one week.
In Week view:
Touch and hold a time slot to create a new event.Tap an event to view details.Slide left or right across the screen to view earlier
or later weeks.
Month View
Month view displays markers on days that have events scheduled.
In Month view:
Tap a day to view the events for that day.Touch and hold a day to create a new event.Slide up or down to view earlier or later months.
Erase Events
Use this procedure to erase calendar events.
1. Press and tap > Calendar.
2. Open the calendar event details:
In Day, Week, and List views, tap the calendar
event to delete.
In Year view, tap the month in which the event
occurs.
3. Press > Delete.
4. Ta p OK in the Delete confirmation box.
If this is a recurring event, select
This & future events, or All events, and tap OK.

Alarm & Timer

Use the following methods to create an alarm event.
1. Press and tap > Clock. The alarm
and media application screen displays.
Alarm: Set an alarm to ring at a specific time.World clock: View the time in other parts of the
world. World Clock displays time in hundreds of different cities, within all 24 time zones around the world.
Stopwatch: Measures intervals of time.

Timer: Acts as a countdown timer. Counts down
time to an based on a preset time length (hours, minutes, and seconds).
2. Tap (Create alarm).
3. Adjust the hour and minute using the up/down
arrows and then adjust the AM or PM value. When complete, tap

8. Tap Alarm tone to select a ringtone that plays with
the alarm.

9. Tap the Snooze ON/OFF slider to activate
the Snooze feature.
10. Tap Snooze and set a duration (3, 5, 10, 15, or
30 minutes) and tap a number of times for Snooze
to repeat (
1, 2, 3, 5, or 10 times).
11. Tap the Smart alarm ON/OFF slider to
activate the Smart alarm feature. Smart alarm tracks body movement and calculates
the best time to sound the alarm. Place the phone on the bed, and then the phone’s movement sensor (accelerometer) detects the movements that set off the alarm.
Note: If you set the smart alarm, the sound starts quiets a few
minutes early and slowly increases the volume.
12. Tap Smart alarm and set the duration and tone.
13. Enter a name for this alarm event. 14 . Tap Save to store the new alarm event.

Calculator

Bluetooth

Your phone comes with a built-in calculator.
1. Press and tap > Calculator.
2. Tap the onscreen keypad to enter numbers.
3. Touch and hold C to clear all numbers.

My Files

My files allows you to manage your sounds, images, videos, Bluetooth files, Android files, and other memory card data in one convenient location. This application allows you to launch a file if the associated application is already on your phone.
1. Press and tap > My files.
2. The following folders display:
extSdCard: display files saved to your phone.sdcard: displays all of the files saved to your
microSD card.
Note: Different folders may display depending on how your
phone is configured.
Bluetooth is a short-range communications technology that allows you to connect wirelessly to a number of Bluetooth phones, such as headsets and hands-free car kits, and Bluetooth-enabled handheld devices, computers, printers, and wireless phones. The Bluetooth communication range is usually approximately 30 feet.
Turn Bluetooth On or Off
The following procedures will guide you through turning on and turning off your Bluetooth device.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Bluetooth.
2. Tap the Bluetooth OFF/ON slider to turn
on Bluetooth.
Tip: You can also turn Bluetooth on and off through the
Notifications panel. Drag the Notifications panel down and tap Bluetooth to enable or disable Bluetooth.

Turn off Bluetooth when not in use to conserve battery power, or in places where using a wireless phone is prohibited, such as aboard an aircraft and in hospitals.
The Bluetooth Settings Menu
The following procedure provides you with a path to the Bluetooth settings menu.
Press and tap > Settings > Bluetooth.

microSD Card

A microSDTM (Secure Digital) or microSDHCTM card is an optional accessory that allows you to store images, videos, music, documents, and voice data on your phone.
Insert a microSD Card*
Use the following procedures to insert the microSD/ microSDHC card from your phone.

1. Using your fingernail, lift the microSD cover
upward.
2. Orient the card with the gold strips facing down.
3. Firmly press the card into the slot and make sure
that it catches with the push-click insertion.
Note: *microSD Card not included. Must be purchased
separately.
Remove a microSD Card
Use the following procedures to remove the microSD/ microSDHC card from your phone.
1. Using your fingernail, lift the microSD cover
upward.
2. Firmly press the card into the slot and release it.
The card should pop partially out of the slot.
3. Remove the card from the slot.
4. Replace the battery cover.
Important: Please be careful when inserting, removing, or
handling the microSD card and its adapter because is it easily damaged during improper operation. Do not over-insert the card as this can damage the contact pins. Be sure to use only recommended memory cards. Using non-recommend memory cards could cause data loss and damage to your phone. Make sure the battery is fully charged before using the memory card. Your data may become damaged or unusable if the battery runs out while using the memory card.
View the microSD Card Memory
Use the following procedure to view the microSD card memory information.
䊳 Press and tap > Settings > Storage. (The
total and available memory space displays.)
Format the microSD Card
Formatting a microSD card permanently removes all files stored on the card.
1. Press and tap > Settings > Storage.
2. Scroll down the screen, tap Format SD card >
Format SD card > Delete all.
Important: The formatting procedure erases all the data on
the microSD card, after which you CANNOT retrieve files. To prevent the loss of important data, please check the contents before you format the card.
Unmount the microSD Card
When you need to remove the microSD card, you must first unmount the microSD card to prevent corrupting the data stored on it or damaging the card. Since you will remove the battery first before you can remove the microSD card, close all running applications on your phone and save any data first.

2. Ta p Unmount SD card.
3. Remove the microSD card. See “Remove a

Update Your Phone

From time to time, updates may become available for your phone. You can download and apply updates through the

Update your phone's software using the Update
Firmware option.
Before Updating Your Firmware
Updating your phone firmware erases all user data from your phone. You must back up all critical information before updating the phone firmware.
Back Up All Data Prior to Update
To back up your Gmail information:
1. Press and tap > Settings > Accounts and
2. Tap the Auto-sync option to enable the feature.

2. Tap the sync icon within the Corporate account
field to display the account’s synchronization settings screen.
3. Toggle the onscreen checkmark to manually
synchronize the desired parameters.
To back up your Google applications:
Your Google™ application purchases are reloaded remotely and can be re-installed after the update is applied.
1. Log into your Google account using the phone.
2. Press and tap > .
3. Tap > My Apps.
4. Scroll through the list of previously downloaded
Google applications and choose the application to reinstall.
5. Follow the onscreen instructions.
As an added precaution, please remove the microSD card prior to starting the update process in order to preserve data.
Update Your Phone Firmware
Once you have backed up all your data, use the Update Firmware option to update your phone firmware.
Press and tap > Settings > System Update
> Update Firmware.
The phone automatically downloads and installs any available updates. You may be required to power the phone off and back on to complete the software upgrade.
Confirm Your Current Phone Firmware
1. Press and tap > Settings > About device.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and view the
Baseband version read-only field.
Update Your Android Operating System
1. Press and tap > Settings > System Update > Update
Samsung Software.
2. Follow the onscreen instructions.

Voice Dialer
You can use your Samsung Galaxy RushTM built-in automatic speech recognition (ASR) software, called Voice Dialer, to dial a phone number in your Contacts or to launch phone functions. All you have to do is to talk into the phone, and ASR recognizes your voice and completes the tasks.
Activating Voice Dialer
1. Press and tap > Voice Dialer.
The screen displays “Listening” and the phone prompts you to say the name of the command you want to use. To complete your task, follow the voice prompts or tap an onscreen option.
Available ASR commands include:
Call <Name> to call an entry in your Contacts list.Dial <#> to call a spoken phone number.Redial to redial the last number called.Open <Menu> to jump directly to menu items or
applications.
Tip: Use Voice Dialer in a quiet environment so it can
accurately recognize your commands.
