Inserting the Batteries in the Remote Control

You must insert or replace the batteries in the remote control when you:
Purchase the television
Find that the remote control is no longer operating
correctly
1 Remove the cover on the rear of the remote control by pressing
the symbol downwards and then pulling firmly to remove it.
2 Insert two R03, UM4, “AAA” 1.5V or equivalent batteries taking
care to respect the polarities:
◆-on the battery against -on the remote control
◆+on the battery against +on the remote control
3 Replace the cover by aligning it with the base of the remote
control and pressing it back into place.

Connecting to an Aerial or Cable Television Network

To view television channels correctly, a signal must be received by the set from one of the following sources:
An outdoor aerial
A cable television network
A satellite network
Rear of the TV
or
Cable Television
Network
1 In the first three cases, connect the aerial or network input cable to
the 75coaxial socket on the rear of the television.
2 If you are using an indoor aerial, you may need to turn it when
tuning your television until you obtain a picture that is both sharp and clear. For further details, refer to:

Switching Your Television On and Off

The mains lead is attached to the rear of your television.
1 Plug the mains lead into an appropriate socket.
The main voltage is indicated on the rear of the television
and the frequency is 50 or 60Hz.
2 Press the “ ” (On/Off) button on the front of the television.
Result
: The Standby indicator on the front of the television
lights up.
3 Press the POWER () button on the remote control to switch the
television on.
Result
: The programme that you were watching last is re-
selected automatically.
When power is turned off in DTV mode, DTV mode will appear when power is turned on. When power is turned off in Analog mode, Analog mode will appear when power is turned on.
If you have not yet stored any channels, No clear picture
appears. Refer to “Storing Channels Automatically” on page 28 or “Storing Channels Manually” on page 30.
4 To switch your television off, press the “ ” (On/Off) button again.

Placing Your Television in Standby Mode

Front of the TV
Your television can be placed in Standby mode, in order to reduce:
Power consumption
Wear of the cathode ray tube
The Standby mode can be useful when you wish to interrupt viewing temporarily (during a meal, for example).
1 Press the POWER () button on the remote control.
Result
: The screen is turned off and the Standby indicator on
the front of the television lights up in red.

2 To switch the television back on, simply press the POWER ()
button again.
Do not leave your television in Standby mode for long
periods of time (when you are away on holiday, for example). Turn your television off by pressing the “ ” (On/Off) button on the front of the television. It is best to unplug the set from the mains and aerial.

When the television is initially powered on, three basic customer settings proceed automatically and subsequently: setting the language, channel and clock.
1 If the television is in Standby mode, press the POWER () button
on the remote control.

: The message Plug & Play is displayed. It flickers for

Viewing the Demonstration

To become familiar with the various menus provided by your television, you can view the inbuilt demonstration.
1 Press the MENU button.
Result
: The main menu is displayed.
2 Press the ▲ or button to select Setup.

: The options available in the Setup group are

3 Press the ENTER button.
4 Press the or button to select Demonstration.
5 Press the ENTER button.

: Each of the menu options is displayed in turn.
When you wish to exit from the demonstration, press the
EXIT button on the remote control. If you press the MENU button, the demonstration is stopped immediately.

Choosing Your Language

When you start using your television for the first time, you must select the language which will be used for displaying menus and indications.
1 Press the MENU button.

Storing Channels Automatically

You can update the channel list when the broadcaster adds new services or if you move the TV to a new location.
1 Press the D.MENU button.
Result
: The DTV menu is displayed.
2 Press the or button to select Channel.
Result
: The options available in the Channel group are
displayed.
3 Press the ENTER button.
Result
: The Auto Store is selected.
4 Press the ENTER button again to start the search.
Result
: When it has finished, the number of scanned services
will be displayed.
◆ The existing favourite channel list will be deleted when
the channel list is updated.
To stop the scan before it has finished, press the ENTER button.

Storing Channels Manually

You can specify the channel or frequency for a fast channel search.
1 Press the D.MENU button.
Result
: The DTV menu is displayed.
2 Press the or button to select Channel.

: The Auto Store is selected.
4 Press the or button to select Manual Store.
5 Press the ENTER button.

: The Manual Store menu is displayed.
6 Press the œ or button to select what you want to specify.

Press the ▲/▼ or number buttons to select a channel. The available channels are 6 ~ 12 and 27 ~ 69.
Result
: The corresponding frequency for the selected channel
is automatically set.
Frequency
You can specify the frequency (KHz) using the number buttons. Incase you don’t know the exact frequency, follow the above step to select the frequency automatically using channel.
Bandwidth
Press the ▲/▼ or number buttons to select a Bandwidth. The available channels are 6, 7 and 8 MHz. Bandwidth in Australia is 7MHz.
7 Press the Red button to start channel search.
Result
: When it has finished, a confirmation message is
displayed asking whether to add the results of the search into the Channels List. Select “Yes” to add the results into the Channels List or select “No” if you choose not to add them, then press the ENTER button.

Editing Your Favourite Channels

You can edit your favourite channels using the three colour buttons.
1 Press the D.MENU button.

: The DTV menu is displayed.

4 Press the or button to select Favourite Channels.

You can determine the channel list that is initially shown when the EPG (GUIDE button), channel list (CH LIST button) or service information (INFO button) is selected.

Viewing EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) Information

You can display EPG information at any time while watching digital programmes.
The EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) information is
provided by the broadcasters. Programme entries may appear blank or out of date as result of the information broadcast on a given channel. The display will dynamically update as soon as new information becomes available.

Viewing Channel Lists

You can display a list of all channels or your favourite channels.
1 Press the CH LIST button.
Result
: The channel list is displayed. Channels are displayed
in groups by frequency range.
2 Move to the channel of your choice by pressing the or button.
3 To toggle between your favourite channels or all channels, use the

Your favourite channels are only displayed if they were
previously set in the page 15~16).
4 To tune to the selected channel, press the ENTER button while
the cursor is on the selected channel.
The channel number, name and an icon are displayed in the
top left corner while changing the channel. The channel number and name are displayed if the channel is one of the all channels, and a favourite channels.

Displaying Programme Information

While viewing a channel, additional information about the current programme may be displayed.

Selecting Category Colours

You can change the colours for Categories.
1 Press the D.MENU button.

Selecting the Parental Rating

Setting the Parental Rating limits access to programmes according to the Parental Rating.
1 Press the D.MENU button.
Result
: The DTV menu is displayed.
2 Press the or button to select Preference.
Result
: The options available in the Preference group are
displayed.
3 Press the ENTER button.
4 Press the or button to select Parental Lock.
5 Press the ENTER button.

: The Enter PIN menu is displayed.
6 Enter your PIN number using the number buttons.

: The Parental Lock menu is displayed.
The default PIN number is “0000”. Change the PIN number
using the following steps.

Parental Rating
1 Press the ENTER button.

: The Parental Rating List is displayed.
2 Select your required Parental Rating by pressing the ▲ or
button, and press the ENTER button.
The Australian Parental Guide Code is shown below:
R: Restricted M: Mature AV: Adult PG: Parental Guidance Recommended MA: Mature Adult G: General
Programmes having the selected Parental Rating or higher are blocked.

1 Press the ENTER button.

: The Change PIN menu is displayed.
2 Set your new PIN number using the number buttons. The PIN
number is used to release blocked programmes and to enter the Parental Lock Menu.
Enter New Pin: Enter your new PIN number.
Confirm New Pin: Re-enter the same PIN number to confirm
the PIN number.
A programme rated above your Parental Rating setting will
be blocked and the message “ displayed. To watch the programme, press the button and then enter your PIN number.

Sorting the Stored Channels

This operation allows you to change the programme numbers of stored channels. This operation may be necessary after using auto store. You can delete the channels you do not want to keep.

Extra Picture Settings

Digital NR
If the signal received by your television is weak, you can activate this feature to reduce any static and ghosting that may appear on the screen.
Tilt
If you find that the picture received is slightly tilted to one side, you can adjust the tilt setting.
LNA (Low Noise Amplifier)
This function is very useful in the situation that the TV is used in weak signal. LNA amplifies the TV signal in the weak signal area, but not noise. This feature is working only weak signal condition, and that is memorized on current channel, additional.

Extra Sound Settings

Auto volume
Each broadcasting station has its own signal conditions, and so it is not easy for you to adjust the volume every time the channel is changed. This feature lets you automatically adjust the volume of the desired channel by lowering the sound output when the modulation signal is high or by raising the sound output when the modulation signal is low.

Setting the Sleep Timer

You can select a time period of between 30 and 180 minutes after the television automatically switches to Standby mode by pressing the “SLEEP” button.
1 Press the SLEEP button on the remote control.

Displaying the Teletext Information

You can display Teletext information at any time on your television.
For Teletext information to be displayed correctly,

Selecting a Page by Number

You can enter the page number directly by pressing the numeric buttons on the remote control.

Using FLOF to Select a Page

The various topics included in the teletext pages are color-coded, and can be selected by pressing the colored buttons on the remote control.
1 Display the teletext contents page by pressing the TEXT/MIX
button.
2 Press the coloured button corresponding to the topic that you
wish to select;the available topics are given on the status line.
Result
:
The page is displayed with other coloured information that can be selected in the same way.
3 To display the previous or next page, press the corresponding
coloured button.
4 To display the subpage, see the following steps.
Press the (sub-page) button. Result
: The available subpages appear.
Select the required sub-page. Sub-pages can be scrolled by using the
Red or Green button.

Storing Teletext Pages

You can store up to four teletext pages to display them later at leisure.
1 Select the LIST mode using the button.

2 Press the coloured button corresponding to the page that will be
replaced.
3 Enter the new page number using the numeric buttons.
4 Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each page to be stored, using a different
coloured button each time.
5 Press the (store) button until the corresponding blocks blink.
: Four 3-digit numbers are displayed in different colours.
The button is used to switch between the LIST and FLOF modes.

Connecting to the AV-1 or 2 Input/Outputs
AV-1 or 2 is used for equipment with an RGB output,
such as video game devices and video disc players or a VCR.

You can connect a set of headphones to your television if you wish to watch a television programme without disturbing the other people in the room.
1 Plug a set of headphones into the 3.5 mm mini-jack socket of the
television.
Result
: The sound is heard through the headphones.
2 When you wish to hear the sound through the speakers again,
simply disconnect the headphones.
Prolonged use of headphones at a high volume may
damage your hearing.

Viewing Pictures From External Sources

Once you have connected up your various audio and video systems, you can view different sources by selecting the appropriate input.
1 Check that all the necessary connections have been made.
2 Switch your television on, then press the VIDEO button
repeatedly.
Result
: The input sources are displayed in the following
order: AV1-AV2-S-Video - Component.
Depending on the source selected, the pictures may appear
automatically.
To watch television programmes again, press the TV/DTV
button and select the number of the channel required.

Automatic Degaussing to Remove Colour Patches

A degaussing coil is mounted around the picture tube, so you do not normally need to degauss the television manually.
If you move the television to a different position and color patches appear on the screen, you must:
Switch the television off by pressing the “ ” (On/Off) button on the front panel
Unplug the television from the wall socket
Leave the television power-off for about 30 minutes so that the automatic degauss function
can be activated, and then press the “POWER” ( ) button on the remote control.
If your television will be left unattended, press the “ ” (On/Off) button to turn your
television off.

Troubleshooting: Before Contacting Service Personnel

Before contacting Samsung after-sales service, perform the following simple checks.
If you cannot solve the problem using the instructions below, note the model and serial number of the television and contact your local dealer.
No sound or picture
Normal picture but no sound

Sound and picture interference
Blurred or snowy picture, distorted sound
Remote control malfunctions
Check that the mains lead has been connected to a wall socket.
Check that you have pressed the “ ” (On/Off) button and the
POWER () button.
Check the picture contrast and brightness settings.
Check the volume.
Check the volume.
Check whether the MUTE button on the remote control has been
pressed.
Adjust the colour settings.
Check that the broadcast system selected is correct.
Try to identify the electrical appliance that is affecting the television,
then move it further away.
Plug your television into a different mains socket.
Check the direction, location and connections of your aerial.
This interference often occurs due to the use of an indoor aerial.
Replace the remote control batteries.
Clean the upper edge of the remote control (transmission window).
Check the battery terminals.
