Blu-ray Disc Features

Blu-ray Discs support the highest quality HD video available in the industry - Large capacity means no compromise on video quality. Furthermore, a Blu-ray Disc has the same familiar size and look as a DVD.
The following Blu-ray Disc features are disc dependant and will vary. Appearance and navigation of features will also vary from disc to disc. Not all discs will have the features described below.
Video highlights
The BD-ROM format supports three highly advanced video codecs, including AVC, VC-1 and MPEG-2.

For High-Definition Playback
To view high-definition contents on a Blu-ray Disc, an HDTV (High Definition Television) is required. Some Blu-ray Discs may require you to use the player's HDMI OUT to view high-definition content. The ability to view high-definition content on Blu-ray Discs may be limited depending on the resolution of your TV.
Interactivity
Certain Blu-ray Discs may contain Animated menus and Trivia games.
User Browsable Slideshows
With Blu-ray Discs, you can browse through still pictures while audio plays in the background.
Subtitles
Depending on what is contained on the Blu-ray Disc, you may be able to select different font styles, sizes, and colors for the subtitles. Subtitles may also be animated, scrolled, or fade in and out.
BD-LIVE
You can use a Blu-ray Disc supporting BD-LIVE to download contents provided by the disc manufacturer through a network connection.

Disc Storage & Management

Disc Handling

Disc Shape
Use discs with regular shapes. If an irregular disc (a disc with a special shape) is used, this player may be damaged.
Holding discs
Avoid touching the surface of a disc where data has been recorded.
Blu-ray Discs
Do not leave a Blu-ray Disc in the player for long
• periods of time. Remove the Blu-ray Disc from the player and store it in its case.
Be careful not to leave fingerprints or scratches
• on the surface of the Blu-ray Disc.
DVD-VIDEO, Audio CD (CD-DA)
Wipe off dirt or contamination on the disc with a soft cloth.
Disc Storage
Be careful not to damage the disc because the data on these discs is highly vulnerable to the environment.
Do not keep under direct sunlight.
• Keep in a cool ventilated area.
• Store vertically.
• Keep in a clean protection jacket.
• If you move your player suddenly from a cold
• place to a warm place, condensation may occur on the operating parts and lens, and cause abnormal disc playback. If this occurs, unplug the player, wait for two hours, and then connect the plug to the power outlet. Then, insert the disc and try to play back again. Then insert the disc and try to play back again.
Handling Cautions
Do not write on the printed side with a ball-point pen or pencil.
Do not use record cleaning or antistatic sprays. Also, do not use volatile chemicals, such as benzene or thinner.
Do not apply labels or stickers to discs. (Do not use discs fixed with exposed tape adhesive or leftover peeled-off stickers.)
Do not use scratch-proof protectors or covers.
Do not use discs printed with label printers available on the market.
Do not load warped or cracked discs.
Before connecting other components to this player, be sure to turn them all off.
Do not move the player while a disc is being played as the disc may be scratched or broken, or the player’s internal parts may be damaged.
Do not put a flower vase filled with water or any small metal objects on the player.
Be careful not to put your hand into the disc tray.
Do not place anything other than the disc in the disc tray.
Exterior interferences such as lightning and static electricity can affect the normal operation of this player. If this occurs, turn the player off and on again with the POWER button, or disconnect and then reconnect the AC power cord to the AC power outlet. The player will operate normally.

Be sure to remove the disc and turn off the player after use.
Disconnect the AC power cord from the AC outlet when you don’t intend to use the player for long periods of time.
Remove the battery pack from the player if you don’t intend to use it for a long period of time.
To clean a disc, wipe it in a straight line from the inside to the outside of the disc.
Do not expose the player to any liquid.
When the AC plug is connected to a wall outlet, the player will still draw power (standby mode) when it is turned off.
Apparatus must not be exposed to dripping or splashing and no objects filled with liquids, such as vases, should be placed on the apparatus.
The main plug is used as a disconnect device and shall stay readily operable at any time.
Maintenance of Cabinet
For safety reasons, be sure to disconnect the AC power cord from the AC outlet before cleaning.
Do not use benzene, thinner, or other solvents for cleaning.
Wipe the cabinet with a soft, dry cloth.
Restrictions on Playback
This player may not respond to all operating
• commands because some Blu-ray, DVD and CD discs allow specific or limited operation and features during playback. Please note that this is not a defect in the player.
Samsung cannot assure that this player will play every disc bearing the Blu-ray Disc, DVD or CD logo because disc formats evolve, and problems and errors may occur during the creation of Blu-ray Disc, DVD, CD software and/or the manufacture of discs. Please contact the SAMSUNG customer care center if you have questions or encounter difficulty in playing Blu-ray, DVD, or CD discs in this player. Also, refer to rest of this user manual for additional information on playback restrictions.

Battery Usage

Keep the battery out of the reach of infants

Do not use the player in a badly ventilated location such as on bedding, on a pillow or cushion, etc, and do not use it in a location such as room with floor heating. It may cause the player to be overheated.
- Take care that the player vents (on the side or the bottom) are not blocked especially in these environments. If the vents are blocked, the player may overheat and it may cause problem, or even an explosion.

Cautions on Using the Car Power Cable

The product is not designed for use in vehicles with batteries that exceed standard
voltage (12V ±10%) or in buses, trucks, military/ construction vehicles, or heavy equipment.
Using with battery of bus/truck/military/construction vehicles/heavy equipment may
damage the product due to overvoltage, and Samsung is not liable for problems caused by such cases.
Starting the engine may produce higher voltage than normal. To protect the product
and user’s safety, disconnect the Car Power Cable when you start the engine.
If voltage from the vehicle’s battery is too high (higher than 14V), the product may
not operate normally or malfunction. In such cases, stop using the product in the vehicle.
Car’s inside can get warm easily and overheat the product. When using the product
in a car, avoid exposing it to direct sunlight. Do not leave the product in the vehicle. Move the product to a cool place when you are done operating it.
Watching or operating the product while driving greatly increases the chance of
a traffic accident. Samsung is not liable for any accidents caused by watching or operating the product while driving. If you are the driver, park the car in a safe place before using the product.
Do not to operate the product continuously for more than 3 hours. If you notice the
player is over heating due to your vehicle’s inside temperature, stop operating the player and turn it off.
Do not install the player on or near the dashboard. Strong sunlight and radiation may
overheat the product. Do not install the product as a navigation device.
If the vehicle’s internal temperature is too high, the following occurs more frequently:
The player stops charging.
The product automatically turns off while operating in battery mode.
These actions are designeed to prevent damage to the battery and protect user’s safety.

Some commercial discs and DVD discs purchased
outside your region may not be playable with this player. When these discs are played, either “This disc can not be played.” or “Cannot read this disc. Please check the regional code of the disc.” will be displayed.
Playback may not work for some types of discs, or
when specific operations, such as angle change and aspect ratio adjustment, are being performed. Information about the discs is written in detail on the disc box. Please refer to this if necessary.
Do not allow the disc to become dirty or scratched.
Fingerprints, dirt, dust, scratches or deposits of cigarette smoke on the recording surface may make it impossible to use the disc for playback.
Discs with PAL programs recorded on them cannot
be played using this player.
This player is compatible with the NTSC color system
only.
When a BD-J title is played, loading may take longer
than a normal title, or some functions may perform slowly.
This player may not respond to all operating

Blu-ray Disc Compatibility

Blu-ray Disc is a new and evolving format. Accordingly, disc compatibility issues are possible. Not all discs are compatible and not every disc will play back. For additional information, refer to the Compliance and Compatibility Notice section of this user manual.

Disc Types

BD-ROM
This Blu-ray disc can only be played back. This player can play back pre-recorded commercial BD-ROM discs.
BD-RE/-R
This Blu-ray disc can be recorded and played back. This player can play back a BD-RE/-R disc recorded by other compatible Blu-ray disc recorders.
DVD-VIDEO

This is a wheel type volume control.
- Position your finger on the outer circle of the volume control and move it to the left or right along the circle at least 90 degrees. If you don’t move your finger at least 90 degrees, the volume may not change. When you move your finger beyond 90 degrees, the volume increases or decreases continuously.
- Moving your finger counterclockwise reduces the volume. Moving your finger clockwise increases the volume.

Please only use your finger tip.
It may be difficult to operate the remote control unit if the remote control sensor on the Blu-ray player is exposed to
direct sunlight or strong artificial light. Operate the remote away from such light sources. When you press the OPEN/CLOSE ( ) button during playback, the disc inside the tray may continue to spin for a
short period of time. This is not a malfunction. The volume can be controlled on the player only. You can’t use the remote to control the volume.
The front panel’s Play button does not start some Blu-ray disc titles from the disc’s menu.
Do not operate the player with the LCD Panel closed for long periods of time.
To prevent over-heating, please keep the LCD panel open while the product is operating.
Do not subject the display area of LCD panel to excessive pressure to avoid damage.
To clean the LCD panel, gently wipe it using dry soft cloth only. LCD Panel can open up to 125° degree from its closed position. Please do not apply excessive force when unfolding
beyond this position. Otherwise the product will be damaged. Please do not place things on the touch button or near its area to prevent abnormal operation of touch button.

Using an HDMI cable, connect this HDMI output terminal to the HDMI input terminal on your TV for the best quality picture or to your Receiver for the best quality sound.
Connect a USB memory flash stick here and use the stick as storage when you have connected the player to BD-LIVE. You can also use the USB Host jack for software upgrades and MP3/JPEG/ DivX/MKV/MP4 playback.
Connect a digital optical cable from the Optical jack to external audio equipment capable of digital output.

Getting Started
Installing the battery into the remote
Turn the lithium battery’s cover counterclockwise, and

then remove.

Place the lithium battery in the battery compartment plus (+) side facing up. Replace the cover, and then turn it clockwise.
-
Match the polarities (+ and -) on the battery with the marks in the battery compartment. If the battery is inserted in the wrong direction, your remote control will not work correctly.
NOTE
If the remote does not operate properly :
Check the polarity +/– of the battery.
Check if the battery is drained. Check if the remote sensor is blocked by obstacles.
Check if there is any fluorescent lighting nearby.
It may be difficult to operate the remote control unit if the remote control sensor on the Blu-ray player is exposed to
direct sunlight or strong artificial light. Operate the remote away from such light sources. After battery replacement, your remote control unit may not work. If this occurs, remove the battery and re-insert.
Remove the battery when you are not planning to use the remote control for a long period of time.
CAUTION
!
Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type

Using the AC adapter

Be sure to use the supplied AC adapter. Using a different type of adapter may cause a malfunction or damage to the product.
When the AC adapter is used for prolonged periods of time, the adapter may heat up.
This is normal and is not a cause for concern. When not using the adapter, unplug it from the wall outlet.
Keep the AC adapter free from moisture, cold, and dust. Otherwise, there is a risk of fire or electric shock..
Be sure to unwind the AC power adapter cable before using, as electromagnetic interference may cause problems with
other devices.

Use the bundle AC adapter to charge the battery pack.

Please charge the battery pack fully before using the player for the first time.

Charging time may be longer in the case listed below.

NOTE
The playing time may be shortened if you increase the level of the LCD Backlight or output sound from the speakers.
The life time of the lithium ion battery pack is limited. Battery capacity can decrease and playing time can be shortened
if you do not use the player and battery for extended periods. If the battery pack is over-discharged, it may take longer time to fully charge.
To prevent over-discharging, please charge the battery pack if it is fully discharged before it’s next use. Be sure to recharge the battery at least once every six months to ensure proper battery life.
When charging or using the battery pack, it heats up. This is normal and is not a cause for concern.

Before using the product
If you are driving, park the car in a safe place before using the product.
If you leave the player in your car in the summer, it can overheat. If this occurs, cool down the product by placing it in a cool place before using.
We recommend that only passengers use the player while the car is in motion and that they use the player in the back seat so that the driver is not distracted.

Powering the product with the Car Power Cable
You can power the player through the cigarette lighter jack power by using the provided Car Power Cable.
Before you start the engine, make sure to Car Power Cable is disconnected. Only connect it after the

After you have turned the car on, connect the Car Power Cable to the car’s cigarette lighter jack and the

Turn the product’s power on using the power button of the player or remote control.

Charging the product with the Car Power Cable
You can charge the product through the cigarette lighter jack inside a car.
If the player is on, charging may take more time. For faster charging of the product, turn the player’s
power off while charging. This Product is designed to start charging only when the internal temperature of the battery pack is
between 41°F~113°F (5°C~45°C). Note that the internal temperature of the battery pack and the ambient temperature may be different. If the temperature of the car is too low or too high, charging may stop. If the internal temperature of the battery
pack goes below 32°F (0°C) above 140°F (60°C), it stops charging automatically.
Operating the product in a car using the battery pack
Place the product in a car away from direct sunlight or other high temperature sources.

CAUTION

The product is not designed for use in vehicles with batteries that exceed standard voltage (12V
±10%) or in buses, trucks, military/ construction vehicles, or heavy equipment.
Using with battery of bus/truck/military/construction vehicles/heavy equipment may damage the
product due to overvoltage, and Samsung is not liable for problems caused by such cases.
Starting the engine may produce higher voltage than normal.
To protect the product and user’s safety, disconnect the Car Power Cable when you start the engine.
If voltage from the vehicle’s battery is too high (higher than 14V), the product may not operate
normally or malfunction. In such cases, stop using the product in the vehicle.
Car’s inside can get warm easily and overheat the product.
When using the product in a car, avoid exposing it to direct sunlight. Do not leave the product in the vehicle. Move the product to a cool place when you are done operating it.
Watching or operating the product while driving greatly increases the chance of a traffic accident.
Samsung is not liable for any accidents caused by watching or operating the product while driving. If you are the driver, park the car in a safe place before using the product.
Do not to operate the product continuously for more than 3 hours. If you notice the player is over
heating due to your vehicle’s inside temperature, stop operating the player and turn it off.
Do not install the player on or near the dashboard. Strong sunlight and radiation may overheat the
product. Do not install the product as a navigation device.
If the vehicle’s internal temperature is too high, the following occurs more frequently:
The player stops charging.
The product automatically turns off while operating in battery mode.
These actions are designeed to prevent damage to the battery and protect user’s safety.
