IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS – for all appliances
When using any electrical appliance, basic safety precautions should always be followed including the following:
1. Please read the instructions carefully before using any appliance.
2. Always ensure that the voltage on the rating label corresponds to the mains voltage in your home.
3. Incorrect operation and improper use can damage the appliance and cause injury to the user.
4. The appliance is intended for household use only. Commercial use invalids the warranty and the supplier can not be held responsible for injury or damage caused when using the appliance for any other purpose than that intended.
5. Avoid any contact with moving parts.
6. Close supervision is required when any appliance is used near or by children or i nvalids.
7. Check the power cord and plug regularly for any damage. If the cord or the plug is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or a qualified person in order to avoid an electrical hazard.
8. Do not use the appliance if it has been dropped or damaged in any way. In case of damage, take the unit in for examination and/or repair by an authorised service agent.
9. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not immerse or expose the motor assembly, plug or the power cord to water or any other liquid.
10. Never immerse the unit in water or any other liquid for cleaning purposes.
11. Remove the plug from the socket by gripping the plug. Do not pull on the cord to disconnect the appliance from the mains. Always unplug the unit when not in use, before cleaning or when adding or removing parts.
12. The use of accessory attachments that are not recommended or supplied by the manufacturer may result in injuries, fire or electric shock.
13. A short cord is provided to reduce the hazards resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
14. Do not let the cord hang over the edge of a table or counter. Ensure that the cord is not in a position where it can be pulled on inadvertently.
15. Do not allow the cord to touch hot surfaces and do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner or in a heated oven.
16. Do not use the appliance on a gas or electric cooking top or over or near an open flame.
17. Use of an extension cord with this appliance is not recommended. However, if it is necessary to use an extension lead, ensure that the lead is suited to the power consumption of the appliance to avoid overheating of the extension cord, appliance or plug point. Do not place the extension cord in a position where it can be pulled on by children or animals or tripped over.
18. This appliance is not suitable for outdoor use. Do not use this appliance for anything other than its intended use.
19. DO NOT carry the appliance by the power cord.
20. Do not leave this appliance unattended during use. Always unplug the unit when not in use or before cleaning.
21. Always operate the appliance on a smooth, even, stable surface. Do not place the unit on a hot surface.
22. Ensure that the switch is in the “Off” or “O” position after each use.
23. The manufacturer does not accept responsibility for any damage or injury caused by improper or incorrect use, or for repairs carried out by unauthorised personnel.
24. In case of technical problems, switch off the machine and do not attempt to repair it yourself. Return the appliance to an authorised service facility for examination, adjustment or repair. Always insist on the use of original spare parts. Failure to comply

Always ensure hands are dry before handling the plug or switch on the appliance. Always use the appliance on a secure dry level surface. Always unwind the power cord before use. Always carry out regular checks of the supply cord to ensure no damage is evident. Should there
be any sign that the cord is damaged in the slightest degree the entire appliance should be returned to the Customer Service Department. Always allow adequate air space above and on all sides for air circulation do not allow the appliance to touch curtains wall covering clothing dishtowels or oth er flammable materials during use.
Always use BRITA MAXTRA water filter cartridge. Always unplug the appliance from the mains power supply socket before filling with water after
use and before cleaning. Always return the appliance after a malfunction or if it has been damaged in any manner to the Customer Service Department for examination repair or adjustment as special purpose tools
are required. Always ensure that the BRITA MAXTRA water filter is securely positioned. Always reset the BRITA Memo after changing the filter.
Never use this appliance outdoors. Never use this appliance for other than the intended use. This appliance is for household use
only. Never immerse any part of the appliance cord or plug in water or any other liquid to protect against electrical hazards.
Never use harsh abrasive or caustic cleaners to clean this appliance. Never let the cable hang over the edge of the worktop touch hot surfaces or become knotted. Never place this appliance on or near a hot gas or electric burner or where it could touch a
heated oven or microwave oven. Never operate any appliance with a damaged cable or plug or after an ap pliance malfunction or if it has been damaged in any manner. Never keep the appliance in environment below O damage. Never use any attachment or accessory not supplied with the appliance or not recommended by the appliance manufacture.
Never fill the water tank with any liquid other than tap water. Never use the water filter cooler without a water filter cartridge fitted. The Russell Hobbs water
filter cooler is designed to be used with the BRITA MAXTRA water filter cartridge. Never attempt to filter untreated raw water or water of unknown quality. This BRITA water filter cartridge must only be used with municipally treated tap water.

BEFORE USING YOUR WATER FILTER COOLER
Before using your water filter cooler for the first time it is recommended that the unit is flushed through with fresh tap water. Please ensure that you read the following instructions before flushing your water filter cooler several times.
1. Remove your water filter cooler carefully from the box. You may wish to store the packaging for future use.
2. Check the contents:

3. Wash the clear plastic upper lid and filtered water tank in warm soapy water rinse an d dry thoroughly.
4. Reassemble the tanks as shown opposite.
5. Position the water filter cooler on a stable flat surface close to a mains power socket not in direct sunlight and out of reach from children.
6. Make sure that there is sufficient space around the water filter cooler to allow the heat extracted during the chilling process to dissipate. Leave a gap of least 5 cm between the ventilation slots on the rear of the cooler and any wall or surface. Do not plug the unit in or install the BRITA filter cartridge yet.
7. Lift the hinged lid and using a suitable jug, pour 2 liters of clean tap water into the tank. While pouring the water place a glass under the dispenser and push the lever back to drain the water.
NOTE: Keeping the lever open allows the air in the internal tank to be replaced with water .This means that when the unit is first used water will flow and no air blocks can develop. It may take some time for the water to flow through.
8. Place a glass under the dispenser, push the lever back and drain the water.
9. Repeat this process several times.
PREPARING THE BRITA MAXTRA CARTRIDGE FOR USE
1. Remove the cartridge from its wrapping (it is normal for the cartridge to appear moist during storage this is simply condensation).
2. Immerse the cartridge in cold water and agitate gently to remove any air bubbles.
NOTE: There is no need to pre-soak this cartridge before use.
3. Remove the lid from the upper water tank.
4. Insert the filter cartridge into the water tank as shown below. Push it firmly into place.
When correctly fitted the cartridge should remain in place when the tank is turned upside-down.
1. Place the upper tank on a suitable bowl or jug. Fill with cold tap water up to the MAX FILL LEVEL and allow to filter through. Discard the first two fillings. These first two fillings are used to flush the filter cartridge. Place the upper tank back into the unit.
2. Replace the upper water tank lid.

3. Press and hold the START button on the BRITA Memo on the lid until all of the bars on the display appear and flash twice (see “Using the BRITA Memo function”).
4. When it is time to replace the cartridge after 4 weeks use, simply lift the ring pull handle on top of the cartridge to remove. The cartridge may be disposed of in household waste.
5. Repeat steps 1-7 with a new cartridge.
USING YOUR WATER FILTER COOLER
1. Lift the hinged lid and using a suitable jug pour water into the tank up to the MAX FILL LEVEL. This may take some time to filter due to the action of the filter.
2. Keep adding water until all the tanks are full. Water flows through the cartridge at a set rate. This is to achieve the best possible filtration. Because of this it may take some time to fill all the tanks on first use. During normal use top up tanks regularly.
NOTE: After the unit has been drained it is recommended to hold the dispen sing lever open with a glass while filling the tanks to stop air becoming trapped inside the unit. Once water flows through the tap the dispensing lever can be released. If water fails to be dispensed when the tanks are full see “Troubleshooting”.
3. Close the hinged lid.
4. Plug the unit into the mains and switch on. Press the power on/off switch on the front of the unit. The red power indicator in the switch will light and the motor will begin to chill the water.
5. Dispense 2 liters of water from the unit to remove any unfiltered water from the unit that was used to prepare the chiller as instructed in section BEFORE USING YOUR WATER FILTER COOLER and top up.
6. After 3 hours the blue indicator on the front of the unit will light indicating that the water has chilled to approximately 10 approximately 8
o
C then stop if the water temperature rises above 8o C the motor will start
o
C. The motor will continue to chill the water down to
to chill again.
7. Place a glass under the dispenser and push the lever back to dispense water.
8. Top up the water tank as necessary.
NOTE: It is possible to use the unit without power but the water will not be chilled.
USING THE BRITA MEMO FUNCTION
It is important to change your BRITA water filter cartridge regularly to enjoy the benefits. The BRITA Memo system automatically reminds you when your water filter cartridge needs to be changed. When you have fitted and prepared your BRITA MAXTRA water filter cartridge start the Memo system as follows:
1. Press and hold the start button until four bars appear in the display and flash twice. The Memo is now set. The flashing dot in the bottom right corner of the display will show that the Memo is working.
2. Every week one bar will disappear to indicate the remaining cartridge life.
When only one bar is showing check that you have a replacement BRITA MAXTRA water filter cartridge available. When buying cartridges look for the BRITA MAXTRA symbol on the cartridge packaging to find the correct filter cartridge in store.
3. After four weeks, all four bars will disappear and a flashing arrow will appear to indicate that the filter should be replaced.

Wash and dry the filter funnel; insert a new BRITA water filter cartridge (as described in “Changing the BRITA MAXTRA Filter Cartridge”) and restart the Memo as describe d above.
CHANGING THE BRITA MAXTRA FILTER CARTRIDGE
The filter cartridge will need to be changed approximately once per month.
1. Switch the water filter cooler off and disconnect from the main supply.
2. Using the dispenser drain the water from the tanks.
3. Remove the upper water tank cover.
4. Pull the BRITA MAXTRA filter cartridge from the unit and discard.
5. Wash the lid and tanks in warm soapy water rinse and dry thoroughly.
6. Remove the new BRITA MAXTRA filter cartridge from wrapping. NOTE: The cartridge and inside wrapper may be moist this is simply condensation.
7. Follow the instructions in “Preparing the BRITA MAXTRA Cartridge for Use”.
8. Insert the BRITA MAXTRA filter cartridge into the water tank.
9. Replace the upper water tank lid.
10. Restart the BRITA Memo cartridge exchange indicator as described in “Using the BRITA Memo Function”.
11. Lift the hinged lid and refill the tanks.
12. Close the hinged lid.
13. Plug the unit into the mains switch and wait for the water to chill.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Cleaning
The outer casing of your water filter cooler can be cleaned using a soft damp cloth and a non­abrasive cleaner. It is recommended to clean the inside and dispenser of the chiller thoroughl y at least every 2 weeks.
Storage
If you not going to use your water filter cooler for an extended time drain the water; remove the MAXTRA filter cartridge and discard. Leave the lid off and allow the unit to dry thoroughly. All the water can be removed from the drain plug from underneath the unit. Disconnect the unit from the mains and hold over a sink while removing the plug. When all water has drained out of the tank; replace the drain plug and tighten.
Troubleshooting
Water is not dispensed:
Make sure that there is water in the tank.
Air trapped in the filter cartridge may stop water flowing into the filtered water tank. The
cartridge must be immersed in cold water and agitated to remove any air bubbles before installation.
BRITA water filter is blocked:
Replace – as air can become trapped in the internal tank.
Press the lever until water dispenses. This may take some time.

Should the need arise to change the fitted plug, follow the instructions below.
This unit is designed to operate on power sources may damage the appliance. Connect a three-pin plug as follows:

Amalgamated Appliances (Pty) Limited (“the Supplier”) warrants to the original purchaser of this product (“the Customer”) that this product will be free of defects in material and workmanship which under normal, personal, family or household purpose manifest themselves within a period of 365 days from the date of purchase or in respect of commercial or professional purposes, manifest themselves within a period of 90 days from the date of purchase. Any claim in terms of the warranty must be supported by a proof of purchase. If such proof is not available, then notwithstanding anything to the contrary herein, the Supplier’s normal charge for se rvice and/or spares will be payable by the Customer upon collection of the repaired product. If a claim is made in terms of the aforesaid warranty within the first 7 days from the date of purchase, the faulty product will be exchanged (provided that the product is in its original packaging with all accessories). Failing return of the product within 7 days, the Supplier’s liability shall be limited on return to the Supplier of the product or parts thereof, to the replacement or repair (in the sole discretion of the Supplier, or its duly authorised service dealer) of the product to eliminate any defect in workmanship or materials found to be due exclusively to any acts or omissions on the parts of the Suppliers, of which defects the Supplier shall have been notified in writing by the Customer within the aforesaid warranty period. The warranty provided herein and the obligations of the Supplier as aforesaid are in lieu of, and the Customer waives, all other warranties, guarantees, conditions or liabilities, express or implied, arising by law or otherwise, including without limitation, any obligation of the Supplier in respect of any injury, loss or damage (direct, indirect or consequential) arising out of the use of, or inability to use, this product and whether or not occasioned by the Supplier’s negligence (gross or otherwise) or any act or omission on its part. The warranty does not include and will not be construed to cover products damaged as a result of disaster, misuse, abuse or any non-authorised modification of the product. The warranty does not include replacement of light bulbs, heater bars, paper bags or any glass, plastic bowl or jug or other expendables. During the warranty period the product should be taken to a service centre of the Supplier or one of its duly authorised service agents. The Supplier neither assumes nor authorises any other person to assume for it, any additional liability in connection with the sale or servicing of its products.
