1 Overview
In many cases, it is imperative that Rohde & Schwarz instruments are used in a
secured environment. Generally these highly secured environments do not allow any
test equipment to leave the area unless it can be proven that no user information
leaves with the test equipment. Security concerns can arise when devices need to
leave a secured area, e.g., to be calibrated or serviced.
The Instrument Security Procedure documents for the Rohde & Schwarz instruments
describe the types of memory and their usage in the Rohde & Schwarz instruments.
They provide a statement regarding the volatility of all memory types and specify the
steps required to declassify an instrument through memory sanitization procedures.

2 Certificate of Volatility
Before you can remove an Rohde & Schwarz instrument from a secured area (for
example to perform service or calibration), all classified user data needs to be
removed. You can declassify the Rohde & Schwarz instrument as described in the section “Instrument Declassification” of the Instrument Security Procedure document for
that specific Rohde & Schwarz instrument.
Rohde & Schwarz certifies that after performing the described instrument declassification procedure that no user data is left on the Rohde & Schwarz instrument.
