IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not use or operate this apparatus in or near water or wet locations. Do not spill liquid on this apparatus. Apparatus should not be exposed to dripping or splashing and no objects filled with liquids, such as vases, should be placed on the apparatus.
Risk of electric shock—Do not disassemble or modify this apparatus. No user-serviceable parts are inside. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as the when power-supply plug or cord is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen onto the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped. Do not use in places exposed to strong magnetic or electrostatic fields (close to TV or speakers). Do not use in places where the humidity is excessively low.
Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized-type plug: A polarized plug has two blades with one wider than the other. The wide blade is provided for your safety. If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet. Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched, particularly at the plug, convenience receptacle, and the point where they exit from the apparatus. Unplug this apparatus during lightening storms or when unused for long periods of time.
Risk of explosion, damage or battery leakage is possible if the battery is replaced incorrectly or by an incorrect type. Never attempt to charge a non-rechargeable alkaline battery. Dispose of used batteries according to instructions or local laws.
Use of headphones while operating a vehicle is not recommended and is unlawful in some states and areas. Stop operating this apparatus if you find it disruptive or distracting while operating any type of equipment.
Listening to music at full power over extended periods of time can be damaging to the hearing of the user.
Do not clean the apparatus with solvents, chemicals or abrasive cleaners. If necessary, use a soft cloth to clean the apparatus.
Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.
Product Care
• Exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures may cause damage to the Rio player or cause it to malfunction. Do not expose the Rio player to direct sunlight continuously or leave it in a vehicle with the doors and windows closed. The case may become deformed or discolored or the Rio player may malfunction. Do not use the Rio player near an open flame.
• If moving from a cold environment to a warm environment, let the Rio player’s temperature stabilize before operation.
• Keep dirt, sand, dust, and moisture from entering the Rio player. Do not use in areas of excessive dust. Do not use in places where the humidity is excessively high.
• Do not drop or subject the Rio player to shock.
• If interference occurs close to radios or televisions, move the Rio player away from them.
Using the Chiba
1. Connect earphones to the EARPHONES port on the bottom of the Rio Chiba.
2. Press POWER.
Playing Music
To begin playing music immediately:
1. Select PLAY/PAUSE using the RioStick.
Controlling Music
While in playback mode, the controls work as follows:
RIOSTICK (Movement)
Move to control PLAY/PAUSE, STOP, FORWARD, and REVERSE playback functions.
RIOSTICK (Press)
Press to cycle through Time Code, Track Format, and Date views.
PLAY/PAUSE
Select with the RioStick to play or pause playback.
STOP
Select with the RioStick to stop playback.
FORWARD and REVERSE
Select with the RioStick to skip to the next or previous track. Select and hold to scan forward or reverse.
Advanced Features
Advanced features include the following:
Equalizer
Set custom 5-Band settings or default Rock, Jazz, Classical, Pop, and Trance equalizer configurations.
Bookmarks
Save multiple playback settings and restore them within seconds.
Settings
Adjust shuffle, repeat, power, contrast, language, and many other advanced Rio Chiba settings.
Location of Controls
POWER
Press to turn the player on. Press and hold to turn the player off.
VOLUME + and ­Press to adjust volume level.
MENU
Press to enter Menu mode. In Menu mode, press to return to Playback mode.

LOCK/UNLOCK
Slide into the LOCK position to disable buttons and prevent accidental operation.
USB
Connects to supplied USB cable.
RIOSTICK
Move to control menu navigation. Press to select menu options. In player mode, move to control PLAY/PAUSE, STOP, FORWARD, and REVERSE playback functions.
