explosive dust, fl am ma ble or combustible liquids or hot ashes. Do not use
this vac as a sprayer. To reduce the risk of health hazards from vapors or
dusts, do not vacuum toxic materials.
CAUTION: To reduce ris k of hear ing

using the va c for ext ended hours or
when using it in a noisy area. The
operation of any utility vac can result
in foreign objects being blown into
the eyes, which can result in severe
eye dam age. Al ways wear safety
goggles complying with ANSI Z87.1
(or in Canada CSA Z94.3-99) shown
on Package before commencing
operation. Safety Goggles are available at many local retail stores.
To reduce the risk of electri c shock, this
appliance ha s a polar ized pl ug (one bl ade

Familiarize yourself with the accessories
included with the vac. Each accessory
may be used in various ways for vacuuming and blowing debri s. Here is a list of the
accessories and their uses.
= ON
Util it y N o zz l e - General purpose nozzle
for most vacuumi ng applications.
Wet Nozzle - Used for wet pickup on
smooth surfac es to pick up liquid and dry
the surface in one stroke.
Car Nozzle - Dry pickup nozzle for car
interiors and most upholstery cleaning.
Extension Wands - These wands can be
connected together and provides additional length for more reach.
Hose - Provides transfer of vacuum to
work site. Provi des the means of attaching extension wands and nozzles.
V acuuming Dry Material s
1.The filter must always be in correct
position to avoid leaks and possible
damage to vac.
2.When using your vac to pick up very
fine dust, it will be necessary for you to
empty the drum and cl ean the filter at
more frequent intervals to maint ain
peak vac performance.
NOTE: A dry filter is necessary to pick up
dry material. If you use your vac to pi ck up
dust when the filter i s wet, the f il ter will
clog quickly and be very difficult to clean.
3. If you r fi lter is wet but you need t o use th e
vac to pick u p dry materi al, you can q uickly
dry the filte r by run ni ng the v ac wit hou t
hose att a ched f or about 10 mi nute s. The
clean ai r rus hing throu gh t he vac wi ll he lp
dry the filter.

Operation (continued)
Vacuuming Liquids
1.When picking up smal l amounts of liquid the filter may be left in place.
2.When picking up large amounts of liquid we recommend that the filter be
removed. If the f il ter is not removed, it
will become satur ated and misting may
appear in the exhaust.
3.After using the vac to pick up liquids,
the filt er m ust be dr ied t o avoid pos sible
mildew and damage to the filter.
4.When the liquid in the drum reaches a
predetermined level, the float mechanism will rise automatically to cut off airflow. When this happens, turn off the
vac, unplug the power cord, and empty
the drum. You will know that the float
has risen bec ause vac airflow ceases
and the motor noise will become higher
in pitch, due to increased motor speed.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire
or electric shock, do not run vac
unattended.
IMPORTANT: To avoid damage to th e
vac do not run motor with float in raised
position.
Emptying the Drum
WARNING: To reduce the risk of
injury from accidental starting,
unplug power cor d before emptying
the drum.
1.The vac comes equipped with a drain
for easy empty ing of liquids. Simply
unscrew the dr ain cap and lift the opposite side sli ghtly to empty the drum.
2.Another option is to remove the lid. Pull
the flexibl e latches outward on each
side of the lid to release from the drum.
3.While ho lding the l atche s o ut, l if t t he top
assembly up and away from the drum.
4.Lay top assembly upside down on a
clean area while emptying drum or
changing filter.
5.Dump the drum cont ents into the proper
waste dispo sal container.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of
back injur y or fal ls, do not lift a vac
heavy with liquid or debris. Scoop
or drain enough contents out to
make the vac light enough to lift
comfortably.
Cord Maintenance
When vacuuming is complete, unplug the
cord and wrap it around the motor cover.
Moving the Vac
Should it become necessary to pick the
vac up to move it, the handles on the
sides of the dust drum are used to lift. To
manuever the vac, the pull handle above
the inlet should be used.
Blowing Feature
Your vac features “Full Blowin g”. It can
blow sawdust and other debris. Fol low the
steps below to use your vac as a blower.
WARNING: Always wear safety gog-
gles complying with ANSI Z87.1 (or
in Canada CSA Z94.3-99) bef ore
using as a blower.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of
injury t o by standers, keep t hem
clear of blowing debr is.
1.Locate blowi ng port of your vac.
2.Insert Tug-A-Long end of hose into the
blowing port of t he vac.

Filter
WARNING: To reduce the risk of
injury from accidental starting,
unplug power cord before ch anging
or cleaning filter.
NOTE: This filter is made of high quality
paper designed to stop very small particles of dust. The filter can be used for wet
or dry pick up. Handle the filter carefully
when removing to clean or installing it.
Creases in the fil ter pleat s may occ ur from
installation but creases will not affect the
performance of the filter.
Cleaning
Your filter should be cleaned often to
maintai n peak vac performance.
Be sure to dry the filter before storing or
picking up dry debris.
IMPORTANT: Af ter cleaning, check t he filter for tears or small holes. Do not use a
filter with holes or tears in it. Even a small
hole can cause a lot of dust to come out of
your vac. Replace it immediately.
Removal
To remove the filter for cleaning or
replacement, unscrew the filter nut from
the filter cage and lift off filter and filter
plate.
WARNING: Do not remove the filt er
cage. It is there to help prevent your
fingers from getting into the blower
wheel.
IMPORTANT: To avoid damage to the
blower wheel and motor, always reinstall
the filter before using the vac for dry
material pickup.
Dry Filter
1.Some removal of dr y debri s can be
accomplished without removing the filter from the vac. Slap your hand on top
of the lid wh ile th e v ac is tur n ed off.
2.For best cleaning results due to accumulated dust, clean the filt er in an open
area. Cleaning SHOULD be done outdoors and not in the li ving quarters.
3.After filter removal from vac, remove
the dry debris by gently t apping the fil ter
against the inside wall of your dust
drum. The debris will loosen and fa ll.
4.For thorough cleaning of dry filter with
fine dust (no debris), run water through
it as described under “Wet Filter”.
Wet F ilte r
After filter is removed, run water through
the filter from a hose or spigot. Take care
that water pressure from the hose is not
strong eno ugh to damage filter.
Installation
Refer to page 5, “Replacement Filter
Assembly”.
Allow the filter to dry before reinstalling
and stori ng the vac.
Wet/Dry V ac
To keep your Wet/Dry Vac looking its best,
clean the outside with a cloth dampened
with warm water and mild soap.
To clean the drum:
1.Dump debris out.
2.Wash drum thoroughly.
3.Wipe out with dry cloth.
W ARNING: To assure product
SAFETY and RELIABILITY, repairs
and adjustment should be performed by Authorized Service Centers, always using RIDGID
replacement parts.
NOTE: If your casters are noisy, you may
put a dr op of oi l on t he roll er shaf t t o make
