DETAILS OF MODIFICATION
In the laboratory test it was found that deve lop er an d tone r may sometimes leak from the ends of the develop men t
unit.
To correct this, the rear side seal has been exte nd ed by 0.5 mm to the front, and two-sided tape has been adhered
to the front side under th e front side seal and front drum seal.
When the front side sea l is rep lace d at PM, the two-sided ta pe shou ld be replaced together with th e front side seal
and front drum seal. The front sid e sea l set (# A1 71 95 01 ), which includes the two-side d ta pe , the front side seal (#
A0793034), and the front drum seal (# A07 9314 1), has be en registered as a spare part.

DETAILS OF MODIFICATION
To increase the tolera nce of generated electrical no ise against the CE mark standards, the following changes ha ve
been applied to the prod uction machines.
1) A round hea d te rmina l (S ep ara tion Corona Terminal) has been added to th e up pe r e nd of the separation corona
spring.
2) Due to modification 1, the length of th e separation corona spring has been changed.
3) The screw in the tran sfer corona receptacle has been chan ge d to an inverted cone slot screw.
The old parts are still availa ble for the old machines in the fie ld.
NOTE: The Thunderbird II has been in compliance with the CE marks sta nd ard s from th e first prod uction.

DETAILS OF MODIFICATION
To comply with Energy Star stand ards, the production machines have been modifie d as fo llows:
1. The main switch has bee n chang ed to an inte rna l relay type for the auto off function .
2. The main switch bra cket has been modified to incorporate the new main switch. The main switch decal, which is
adhered to the bracke t, has be en divide d int o two decals.
3. A portion of th e lef t up pe r inne r cover near the main switch has been changed to inco rpo rat e the new switch and
bracket.
NOTE: The old type left upper inn er cover will not be available as a service part because its mold has been modif ied to
make the new covers.
The above changes have been applie d to the non-North American version mode ls as well. However, the Energy Star mode
does not work on those models.

DETAILS OF MODIFICATION
When releasing the T & S corona unit , th e de velo pe r may sometimes drop through the gap betwee n the registration
seal and registration gu ide plate. To correct this, the production machines have been modified as follows:
1. The registration seal (A167268 1) ha s been adhe red to th e reg istra tio n guide plate ass’y (A1672680).
2. To hold the other end of the registration seal, the registration seal holder h as be en add ed .
3. To prevent developer from entering the machine, a seal (seal - 7 x 497 x 2) has been adhere d to the registration
cover ass’y.
NOTE: The registration guide plate ass’y and holder or the registrat ion seal and holder need to be installed as a set.

The inner bearing mounted in the rear drum flange (#22 in page 99) may be constantly receiving axis-directional
pressure, and result in breakage which will show SC306, in the worst case scenario.
To eliminate the pressure, the width of the drum shaft bushing has been reduced by 1mm. This change decreases
the axis-directional tightness.

To prevent the trailing edge of paper becoming dirty when duplexing, the material of the relay transport roller has been
changed from rubber to resin.
