The lower seal (straight; the upper seal is a loop) of the development unit entrance seal ass'y (P/N A2293092) may get pinched between the developer and the drum if a large amount of developer accumulates near the photoconductor gap (PG). The seal ma y be pulled out of position by the friction caused by the rotation of the drum. In the worst case, the seal would peel off.

The width of the lower seal has been shortened from 18 mm to 17 mm. Though the 17 mm lower seal may wrap up, the function of this part is not adversely affected.

If the customer turns the toner bottle clockwise when a new bottle is installed, the teeth of the worm gear of the toner supply motor jump and are damaged. Then, the gear makes a noise when it is activated.

To improve the strength of the toner bottle motor mechanism, the following parts have been changed.

1. The material of the worm gear of the toner supply motor has been changed from resin

2. The thickness of the toner bottle bracket has been increased from 1.2 mm to 1.6 mm.

3. The length of the shaft has been extended from 50 mm to 51 mm.

4. Arrow mark #2 in Step 5 of the decal for the toner replacem ent has be en del eted as

This is to inform about the second step of the modification in MB No. MA229020.

To prevent the gear from being damaged even if the toner bottle is turned clockwise when installed, a one-way mechanism has been added by using two gears.

When the toner bottle is turned clockwise, the engagement of the two gears is released.

Notes

*1: Please note that the two gears, the spring, and the spacer should be replaced at the

same time.

*2: It was informed in MB No. MA229020 that the material of the motor had been

changed from resin to brass (the part number was changed from A2293240 to A2293245), but this modification had NOT actually been done due to difficulties with the motor production using brass. So as shown in the table above, the Motor P/N

has been returned back to its previous number, i.e. from A2293245 back to

The other three parts have also been changed to make the feed belt work smoothly, for following reason:

If only the feed belt is replaced from the old type to the new type, the new feed belt may run onto the edge of the feed belt rollers if a jammed original between the feed belt and separation roller is pulled diagonally. Once the feed belt runs onto the edge of the feed belt rollers, it tends to stay there and may cause a skew problem.

Even if the feed belt runs onto the edge of the rollers, the new rollers and bracket can make the feed belt go back to its original position when next job starts.

The paper end feeler of the third tray may touch the bottom of the second tray. This causes the paper in the third tray to be caught by the feeler and paper skew may occur.

This symptom occurs only on machines in which the new second tray is installed. Please refer to MB No. 22 for the targeted serial numbers.

Some of the transfer belts supplied as service parts may have a higher resistance value causing the belt surface to become dirty with toner.

Cause

A transfer belt as a service part is kept in a box with a folded shape, meaning that no tension is being applied to the belt. The belt gradually gets a higher resistance value in this condition.

Solution in the Field

The resistance value could be lowered to a targeted range after the belt is installed and is under tension for a few hours.

Countermeasure

The transfer belts with a lower range of resistance are selected and provided as service parts with a new part number.

The production line in stalls non-selected transfer belts as before because tension is applied to the belt.

There is a way to distinguish both belts. The sixth digit of the lot number of belt is different, 5 for Production line and 6 for Service parts.
