EINLEITUNG
Wir gratulieren Ihnen zum Erwerb
Ihrer neuen Revox HiFi Laut-
sprecher und danken Ihnen für das
Vertrauen, das Sie uns mit dem Kauf
dieses hochwertigen Produktes ent-
gegenbringen.
Vor Inbetriebnahme Ihrer Revox-
Lautsprecher sollten Sie die fol-
genden Hinweise beachten, damit
sich die klanglichen Qualitäten voll
entfalten können.
Bei der Konzeption dieser Laut-
sprecher haben wir größten Wert
auf ihre tonale Ausgeglichenheit
gelegt. Dank der nichtparallelen
Wände und aufwändigen Innenver-
strebungen können die vier Lang-
hubtiefmitteltöner ein präzises und
kräftiges Bassfundament liefern,
das durch die strömungsoptimier-
ten, großen Ventilationsöffnungen
auch bei hohen Pegeln erhalten
bleibt. Für saubere Mitten und klare
Höhen sorgen zwei der vier Tief-
mitteltöner in Kombination mit einer
grandiosen Großmembrangewebe-
kalotte. Nicht weniger als 16
Bauteile sorgen auf der Freuenz-
weiche dafür, dass jeder Frequenz-
bereich optimal von den einzelnen
Lautsprechern bedient wird.
Selten gab es einen audiophileren
Lautsprecher in dieser optischen
Reinkultur.

Auspacken & Aufbauen
Die Scala 120 besitzt einen Glassockel, der einzeln in der Lautsprecherverpackung mitgeliefert
wird. Dieser muss vor der Inbetriebnahme des Lautsprechers mit dem
Lautsprechergehäuse verschraubt
werden, um eine ausreichende
Standfestigkeit gegen Umkippen zu
gewährleisten.
Legen Sie hierfür, am besten zu
zweit, das Gehäuse mit der Rückseite auf eine weich ausgelegte,
gepolsterte Ebene, wie im Bild
unten zu sehen. Schrauben Sie nun
den Glassockel mit den 4 beiliegenden Schrauben mit Hilfe eines
Schraubenziehers (Torx-TX20) fest.
Die Schrauben dürfen nur handfest
angezogen werden. Auf keinen Fall
sollte dazu ein Akkuschrauber
verwendet werden, da durch ein zu
hohes Drehmoment (Anziehkraft)
die Glasplatte reißen könnte.
Nun kann die Schutzfolie auf der
Kopfseite des Lautsprechers vorsichtig entfernt werden.
Wir empfehlen, das Verpackungsmaterial für einen eventuellen
späteren Transport aufzubewahren.
Lautsprechergitter
Das Frontgitter der Scala 120 darf
nicht entfernt werden! Grund: es
wird im Werk genauestens auf den
Kurvenverlauf der Gehäusekante
angeglichen und elastisch gelagert,
um Vibrationen zu vermeiden.
Ein Abnehmen und Wiederanbringen birgt außerdem die Gefahr,
die Lackierung des Gehäuses zu
beschädigen.

Positionierung
Die Lautsprecher sind richtig
platziert, wenn diese mit Ihrem
bevorzugten Hörplatz ein Dreieck
mit etwa gleich langen Seiten
biIden. Dabei sollten die Lautsprecher aus einer akustisch
harten, reflexionsfähigen Umgebung
in den stärker bedämpften Teil des
Hörraumes strahlen.
Bitte beachten Sie, dass großflächige, glatte Wände auf der den
Lautsprechern gegenüber liegenden
Seite immer zu unangenehmen
Reflexionen führen können. Die
Schallabstrahlung sollte nicht durch
Gegenstände behindert werden, d.
h. zu den Lautsprechern sollte
Sichtverbindung bestehen.

Das Aufstellen der Lautsprecher
unmittelbar an der Wand oder in der
Raumecke führt in der Regel zu einer
Betonung der Bässe.
Je nach den akustischen Gegebenheiten Ihres Wohnraumes können
sehr starke Änderungen in der
Basslautstärke zwischen den
Möglichkeiten “größerer Abstand“
(schlanker Bass) und “in der
Raumecke“ (kräftiger Bass) auftreten. Es empfiehlt sich deshalb
durch Verschieben der Scala
Lautsprecher cm um cm die beste
tonale Balance zu ermitteln.
Die Scala Lautsprecher sind so
konzipiert, dass eine wandnahe
Aufstellung problemlos möglich ist.
Ein ‘‘Ausrichten‘‘ der Lautsprecher
auf den Hörplatz kann sich
akustisch vorteilhaft auswirken, da
dadurch Reflexionen an den benachbarten Raumwänden reduziert
werden.
Falls Sie im Besitz eines Revox
M100-/ Joy-Receivers sein sollten,
können aufstellungsbedingte Klangverfärbungen mittels vorprogrammierter DSP-Kennlinie (für Revox
Lautsprecher) weitgehend kompensiert werden.

Anschluss der Lautsprecher
ACHTUNG!
Vor dem Herstellen der notwendigen Verbindungen zu Ihrer
HiFi-Anlage (Vollverstärker,
Receiver, Endstufe etc.) sollten
Sie diese in jedem Fall vom Netz
trennen.
Verbinden Sie die Lautsprecherausgänge A oder B auf der
Rückseite Ihres Verstärkers mit den
entsprechenden Schraubklemmen
an den Lautsprechern. Verwenden
Sie dafür Lautsprecherkabel mit
abisolierten Enden. Hierbei ist auf
richtige Polung zu achten:

Hinweis:
Falls ein oder sogar mehrere
Lautsprecher verpolt angeschlossen wurden, stellt sich eine deutlich
reduzierte Basswiedergabe ein
zusammen mit einem ungenauen
und diffusen Klangbild.
Kabellänge & Querschnitt
Revox-Lautsprecher weisen einen
ausgeglichenen elektrischen Impedanz- und Phasenverlauf auf und
stellen für den Endverstärker sowie
die Lautsprecherkabel eine unkritische Last dar.
Ihr Fachhändler hält Lautsprecherkabel in unterschiedlichen Ausführungen und Querschnitten bereit
und berät Sie gerne individuell.
Um die Leitungsverluste jedoch
möglichst gering zu halten, empfehlen wir, die Kabelquerschnitte
wie folgt zu dimensionieren:

Von größeren Kabellängen (ab ca.
20 m) raten wir aufgrund unvermeidlicher Verluste ab.

Belastbarkeit
Die Angabe der Belastbarkeit auf
dem Typenschild Ihrer Revox Lautsprecher bezieht sich auf linear
eingestellte Klangregler am Verstärker. Es ist möglich, diese Lautsprecher an Verstärkern zu
betreiben, deren Ausgangsleistung
höher ist.
Dabei muss aber beachtet werden,
dass die Lautstärke nur so weit
erhöht wird, bis das Ohr - meist
zuverlässig - eine Überlastung
meldet. Dieses Anzeichen äußert sich
rechtzeitig durch starkes Anwachsen von Verzerrungen im
Klangbild.
Durch eine Kurzzeitüberlastung
nehmen Ihre Revox-Lautsprecher
keinen Schaden.
Sollten die Lautsprecherchassis
durch eine längere Überlastung
beschädigt worden sein, so ist dies
von dem zuständigen Servicetechniker zweifelsfrei feststellbar.
Eine Garantieleistung durch Revox
ist dann nicht gegeben.
Pflege
Die lackierten Gehäuseflächen und
das Schutzgitter sollten nur mit einem
feuchten Tuch gereinigt und
anschließend mit einem weichen
Tuch trockengerieben werden.
Verwenden Sie in keinem Fall
Reinigungssubstanzen mit Schleifzusätzen
Entsorgung Ihres Altgerätes
Ihr Produkt ist aus hochqualitativen
Materialien und Bestandteilen
hergestellt, die dem Recycling zugeführt werden und wiederverwertet
werden können. Falls dieses Symbol
eines durchgestrichenen Müllcontainers auf Rollen auf diesem
Produkt angebracht ist, bedeutet
dies, dass es von der Europäischen
Richtlinie 2002/96/EG erfasst wird.
Bitte informieren Sie sich über die
örtlichen Sammelstellen für

INTRODUCTION
Congratulations on purchasing your
new Revox loudspeakers and thank
you for your trust in our high-quality
products.
To enjoy excellent sound quality in
your home, carefully read the
following instructions
before
first-
time operation.
With the design of these
loudspeakers we have invested a lot
of effort in their tonal balance.
Thanks to the non-parallel sides and
extensive internal bracing, the four
long-stroke, mid-range speakers are
able to deliver a precise and
powerful bass response that is
maintained through the emission-
optimised, large ventilation ports,
even at high levels.
Two of the four mid-range drivers, in
combination with a large fabric
membrane calotte, provide the
clean middle and clear high tones.
No less than 16 components on the
frequency separating filter ensure
that each frequency range is
handled in an optimum way by the
individual speakers.
The end result is an audiophile
speaker with exceptional optical
purity.

Unpacking & Installing
The Scala 120 has a glass pedestal
that is delivered with the speaker,
packed separately. This has to be
screwed to the speaker before you
start using it, in order to ensure
sufficient stability in operation. To
do this, working with another
person, lay the housing carefully on
its back onto a soft, padded surface,
as shown in the picture below. Now,
using a Torx TX20 screwdriver,
screw the glass pedestal to the
speaker using the four screws
provided. The screws should only
be hand-tightened. On no account
should a powered screwdriver be
used as the high torque that this
would create, may cause the glass
to crack.
Now the protective film can be
removed carefully from the top of
the speaker.
We recommend that you keep the
packaging material in case you
should need it in the future to
transport the speakers.
Speaker grille
The front grille on the Scala 120
should not be removed! The reason
for this is that during manufacture, it
is aligned exactly to the curve of the
housing edge and is elastically
mounted in such a way as to
prevent vibrations. There is also a
risk that the surface of the housing
will be damaged if the grille is
removed and replaced.

Positioning the loudspeakers
To achieve optimum sound
performance set up your
loudspeakers so that
your favourite
listening position and the speakers
form an approximate equilateral
triangle (as shown below). The
speakers should radiate from an
acoustically hard environment such as
your living room wall into the more
dampened part of the listening area.
Please note that positioning the
speakers opposite to large and
smooth walls may cause unpleasant
reflections. In order not to impede
sound performance ensure that no
objects are placed in front or too
near to the speakers. You need a
clear line of sight to your speakers
to achieve the best results.

Putting your speakers up against a
wall or in a corner will emphasise
the bass frequencies.
According to the acoustic
properties of your living room
changes in bass volume can occur
between ‘’larger distance (slim
bass)’’ and ‘’in the angle of the room
(beefy bass)’’. Hence, during the
installation process, it is
recommended to move the speakers
in incremental measures, until the
best tonal balance is achieved.
The Scala speakers are designed so
that they can be placed close to a
wall without causing any problems.
It may be acoustically advantageous
to angle the speakers to the
listening position, as this can
reduce reflections from the
neighbouring walls.
If you own a Revox M100 or Revox
Joy Network Music Player, the
sound performance in the room can
be optimised by selecting the
appropriate pre-programmed DSP
characteristic curves from the
“settings” menu of the Revox
device. This will optimise the sound
performance for the model of Revox
speaker used and the position of the
speakers in the room.

Connecting the loudspeakers
Important
Before cabling, disconnect your
hi-fi system (amplifier, receiver,
power amplifier etc.) from the
mains!
Connect the loudspeaker outputs A
or B on the back of your amplifier to
the corresponding terminal screws
on the speakers, using loudspeaker
cables with bared ends. Watch the
polarity:

Please note:
If one or more speakers are
connected with the wrong polarity,
there is a significant reduction in
the bass reproduction and the
sound portrait is uneven and
diffused.
Cable Length & Cross Section
Revox loudspeakers have
consistent electrical phase and
impedance characteristics and are
an uncritical load for the power
amplifier and the loudspeaker
cables.
Your specialist dealer offers
loudspeaker cables in diverse styles
and with various cross sections. He
will be glad to advise you according
to your individual needs.
In order to keep cable loss as low
as possible, we suggest the
following cable cross section
dimensioning scheme:

We advise against using long
cables (more than 20 m / 65 feet)

Power Handling Capacity
The power handling capacity stated
on the type plate of your Revox
loudspeakers refers to an amplifier
with tone control set to linear. lt is
possible to use these loudspeakers
with amplifiers rated for a higher
power output. However, ensure that
the volume is only increased until
your ear - in most cases reliably detects an overload. First sign of an
overload is a heavy increase in
distortion.
Your Revox loudspeakers should not
be damaged by a short-time
overload.
Damage of loudspeaker drivers due
to overload can easily be
determined by the service
personnel. In such cases, you are
not entitled to any warranty work.
Maintenance
The lacquered surface of the
housing and the
speaker grill
should be cleaned using a damp
cloth and then wiped dry with a soft
cloth. Do not use any scouring
powder or cleaning fluids.
Disposal of your old product
Your product is designed and
manufactured with high quality
materials and components, which
can be recycled and reused.
When the above symbol is attached
to a product it means the product is
covered by the European Directive
2002/96/EC.
Please inform yourself about the
local separate collection system for
electrical and electronic products.
Please act according to your local
rules and do not dispose your old
products with your normal
household waste. The correct
disposal of your old product will
help prevent potential negative
consequences for the environment
and human health.
