Wir gratulieren Ihnen zum Erwerb Ihrer
neuen Revox HiFi-Lautsprecher und
danken Ihnen für das Vertrauen, das
Sie uns mit dem Kauf dieses hochwertigen Produktes entgegenbringen.
Ihre Revox-Einbaulautsprecher (IWS
=
InWall Speaker) wurden nach
neuesten elektroakustischen Erkenntnissen entwickelt und mit großer
Sorgfalt gefertigt. Vor Inbetriebnahme sollten Sie die folgenden
Hinweise beachten, damit sich die
klanglichen Qualitäten voll entfalten
können.
Allgemeines
Der IWS65 und IWS 85 ist für den
Einbau in abgehängte Decken oder in
Wandverschalungen vorgesehen.
Für den Einbau in Massivwände ist ein
passendes Einbaugehäuse von Revox
erhältlich. Weitere Informationen zum
Revox-Einbaugehäuse finden Sie auf
Seite 8.

Lautsprecher ausrichten
Bevor Sie mit der Montage beginnen,
hier noch ein paar Hinweise zur
Ausrichtung des Einbaulautsprechers.
Der Lautsprecher ist so konzipiert,
dass die optimale Wiedergabe
erreicht wird, wenn der Hochtöner
sich über dem Bass befindet. Dies gilt
auch, wenn der Lautsprecher sich in
einer sehr hohen Einbauposition
unterhalb der Decke befindet. Bei
einem Stereopaar müssen beide
Lautsprecher in gleicher Weise ausgerichtet werden:
Ist eine vertikale Ausrichtung aufgrund der Gegebenheiten nicht
möglich, sollten die Lautsprecher in
der Horizontalen spiegelbildlich ausgerichtet werden, sodass die Hochtöner nach außen zeigen:
Lautsprecherposition
Front-Lautsprecher für Stereo- bzw.
Heimkinowiedergabe
Optimal ist, wenn sich die Hochtöner
etwa auf Ohrhöhe befinden. Der Abstand zwischen den Lautsprechern
hängt von der Raumgröße und dem
Abstand zum Hörer ab.
Als allgemeine Regel gilt, dass der
Abstand zum Hörer mindestens 1,5 m
betragen sollte. Der Abstand zwischen
den Lautsprechern sollte nicht größer
sein als der Abstand zum Hörer.
Optimal ist, wenn die zwei Lautsprecher und der Hörer ein gleichseitiges Dreieck bilden. Ist der Abstand
zwischen den Lautsprechern zu groß,
kann es zu klanglichen Einbußen im
mittleren Bereich des Hörraumes
kommen. Ein zu geringer Abstand führt
dagegen zu einem Verlust der Räumlichkeit, einhergehend mit einer
reduzierten Tiefenstaffelung.

Lautsprecherposition
Center-Lautsprecher im Heimkino
Für ein optimales Klangbild empfiehlt
es sich den Center-Lautsprecher auf
die Bildmitte auszurichten.
Bei Verwendung einer Projektorleinwand muss darauf geachtet
werden, dass diese auch schalldurchlässig ist.
Der Hochtöner des Lautsprechers sollte
sich auch bei diesem Einsatz auf
Ohrhöhe befinden. Sollten Sie sich für
eine Einbauposition unter dem Bildschirm entscheiden, beachten Sie bitte,
dass sich der Lautsprecher nicht zu
nahe am Boden befindet und der Klang
nicht durch ein späteres Aufstellen von
Möbeln gedämpft wird.
Lautsprecherposition
Surround-Lautsprecher im Heimkino
Der Klang aus den Surround-Lautsprechern sollte möglichst diffus sein.
Dadurch wird sichergestellt, dass die
Qualität des Audioklangs von vorne
durch Ändern der Hörposition nicht
beeinträchtigt wird.
Die Lautsprecher sollten in der Regel
hinter dem Hörer und mindestens 0,6
m über Ohrhöhe platziert werden. Der
Einbau in die Decke führt bei dieser
Anwendung zu guten Ergebnissen.
Die Ausrichtung ist bei Einsatz als
Surround-Lautsprecher weniger
wichtig als in den anderen Fällen.

MONTAGE IWS 65
Für den Einbau des IWS65 in eine
abgehängte Decke oder eine Wand in
Ständerbauweise benützt man den
beiliegenden Montagerahmen aus
Metall. Dabei wird ein Ausschnitt von
188 x 275 mm mit Hilfe der
schablone angebracht. Achten Sie
darauf, dass kein Schmutz im eingebauten Zustand von hinten auf die
Lautsprechereinheit gelangen kann. Ist
der Hohlraum sauber, wird das Lautsprecherkabel
polungsrichtig mit dem
IWS 65 verbunden –siehe auch Seite 10.

Schritt 1 / 3 Die Lautsprechereinheit
wird nun mit den 6 beiliegenden
Gewindeschrauben mit dem Montagerahmen lose verbunden und schräg in
den Ausschnitt eingeführt.
Schritt 2 / 3 Nachdem die Einheit
korrekt ausgerichtet ist, werden die
Schrauben vollständig angezogen. Die
Gewindeschrauben sollten dabei nur
handfest angezogen werden, da
ansonsten das Lochblechgitter nicht
mehr in die Aufnahme
passt.

MONTAGE IWS 85
Der IWS 85 besteht aus zwei Einzelteilen, dem Grundträger (Montagerahmen) und der Schallwand.
Zuerst wird mit Hilfe der Einbauschablone ein Ausschnitt von 225 x
330 mm angebracht. Achten Sie
darauf, dass kein Schmutz im eingebauten Zustand von hinten auf die
Lautsprechereinheit gelangen kann.

Für den schnellen Einbau besitzt der
Montagerahmen des IWS 85 integrierte Drehspanner. Diese Drehspanner befinden sich auf dessen
Rückseite und schwenken um 90° aus,
sobald die markierten Schrauben auf der
Vorderseite des Montagerahmens eingedreht werden.

Der Montagerahmen wird in die Ausschnittsöffnung gesetzt. Achten Sie
dabei auf die Ausrichtung. In der
Abb.1 ist der Rahmen so dargestellt,
dass sich später beim Einsetzen der
Schallwand der Hochtöner

Ziehen Sie die 6 Schrauben für die
Drehspanner (siehe Abb. 1) leicht an
bis der Montagerahmen bündig
anliegt. Keinesfalls darf sich der
Montagerahmen verwinden.

Verbinden Sie das Lautsprecherkabel
polungsrichtig mit der steckbaren
Schraubklemme des IWS 85 und
stecken Sie die Schraubklemme in die
entspr.

Im letzten Schritt wird die Lautsprecherfront auf den Montagerahmen aufgesetzt und mit den 6
beiliegenden Schrauben an den

verschraubt. Zuletzt drückt man
vorsichtig das Lautsprechergitter im
Randbereich auf.
Bitte nicht in der Gittermitte drücken
Verbiegungsgefahr!
Hochtöner ausrichten
Der IWS 85 besitzt einen zu allen Seiten
schwenkbaren Hochtöner. Eine außermittige Ausrichtung sollte nur im Notfall
durchgeführt werden, da der Lautsprecher auf die neutrale Mittelstellung
hin entwickelt wurde und u.U. Kantenreflexionen entstehen können.

Lautsprecher farblich anpassen
Rahmen umlackieren
Mit der beiliegenden LackierSchablone kann der Lautsprecher
farblich an sein Umfeld angepasst
werden. Entfernen Sie dazu das
Lautsprechergitter und fixieren Sie an
dieser Stelle die
Malerklebeband am Lautsprecher.
Stellen Sie sicher, dass kein Sprühnebel beim Lackieren seitlich in den
Lautsprecher eindringen kann.
Lautsprechergitter umlackieren
Wenn zusätzlich das Lautsprechergitter umlackiert werden soll, ist das
inliegende Flies zu entfernen. Das
Flies besitzt eine Haftbeschichtung, die
ein leichtes Wiederanbringen nach
dem Trocknen des Lackes ermöglicht.

Montage im Revox-Einbaugehäuse

Für den Einbau in Ziegelwänden empfiehlt sich das passende Einbaugehäuse zu verwenden.
! Achtung Ausrichtung IWS65 !
Die Ausrichtung des Lautsprechers
kann später nicht mehr korrigiert
werden. Überprüfen Sie deshalb vor
der Montage des Einbaugehäuses die
Lautsprecherposition anhand des
Positionsetiketts auf der Gehäuseinnenseite.
Lautsprecherzuleitung
An jeder Seitenwand des Einbaugehäuses befindet sich ein Rundloch
mit Kunststoffabdeckung, das ein
Leerrohr (Flexrohr EN20) mit 20mm
Durchmesser aufnehmen kann.
Führen Sie an dieser Stelle das
Installationsrohr für die Lautsprecherleitung ein. Stellen Sie auf
jeden Fall sicher, dass der RohrGehäuse-Übergang absolut dicht ist.

Nicht für den Einsatz in Sichtbetonkonstruktionen geeignet.

Einbaugehäuse in Wand
mit Feinputzschicht
Wird das Einbaugehäuse in eine
(Ziegel)-Wand eingelassen, ist darauf
zu achten, dass der umlaufende Falz
frei bleibt, damit die nachträglich
aufgebrachte Feinputzschicht (im
Schema schwarz gefärbt) bündig mit
dem Einbaugehäuse abschließen
kann.
Lautsprechereinheit abdichten
Bei unebener Wandfläche sollte ein
Dichtband verwendet werden, damit
ein luftdichter Abschluss gewährleistet ist.
Feinputzschicht
Lautsprecherbefestigung IWS 65
Verwenden Sie für die Montage der
Lautsprechereinheit mit dem Einbaugehäuse die 6 Holzschrauben. Der
Metall-Montagebügel bleibt in diesem
Fall unbenutzt.
Lautsprecherbefestigung IWS 85
Befestigen Sie den IWS 85 im
Einbaugehäuse nach der gleichen
Methode mit Hilfe der Drehspanner
wie in einer abhängten Decke – siehe
Seite 6.

reduzierte Basswiedergabe ein zusammen mit einem ungenauen und
diffusen Klangbild.
Kabellänge und Querschnitt
Revox-Lautsprecher weisen einen
ausgeglichenen elektrischen Impedanz- und Phasenverlauf auf und
stellen für den Endverstärker eine
unkritische Last dar. Um die Leitungsund Hochtonverluste jedoch möglichst gering zu halten, empfehlen wir,
die Kabelquerschnitte wie folgt zu
dimensionieren und in jedem Fall 2adrige Litzen zu verwenden.

Von größeren Kabellängen (ab ca.
50m) raten wir wegen unvermeidlicher Verluste für die HiFi-Wiedergabe ab.
Belastbarkeit
Die Angabe der Belastbarkeit auf dem
Typenschild Ihrer Revox-Lautsprecher
beziehen sich auf linear eingestellte
Klangregler am Verstärker. Durch
Kurzzeitüberlastung nehmen Ihre
eine
Revox-Lautsprecher keinen Schaden.
Sollten die Lautsprecherchassis durch
eine längere Überlastung beschädigt
worden sein, so ist dies von dem zuständigen Service-Techniker zweifelsfrei feststellbar. Eine Garantieleistung
durch Revox ist dann nicht gegeben.
Schutzschaltung
Die Einbaulautsprecher besitzen für den
Hoch- und Tieftonlautsprecher eine
separate Schutzschaltung, die bei
Überlast den Lautsprecher im Pegel
absenkt und nach einer gewissen Zeit
(abhängig von der Höhe der Überlastung) wieder selbstständig aktiviert.

Your Revox inwall speakers have
been developed in line with the latest
in electro-acoustic technology and
have been produced to the highest
quality. Before you start to use them,
we would recommend that you read
this manual thoroughly so that you
will be able to get the best sound

be built into suspended ceilings or
wall recesses.

box if you want to install in solid walls.

Speaker set-up
Before you start installation we would
like to give you a couple of tips about
your speaker set-up. The speakers
have been designed so that the best
sounds are achieved when the
tweeter is located above the bass.
This is also true if the speakers are
located high up under a false ceiling.
With a stereo pairing, the speakers
must be positioned in the same way,
as shown here:
If space doesn't allow you to install
the speakers vertically, they can be
mounted horizontally in a mirrored
configuration, so that the tweeters are
to the outside, as shown here:

Front speakers for stereo or home
cinema applications
The best results are achieved when the
tweeter are located at about the
listener's ear-level. The distance
between the speakers is dependant on
the size of the room and the distance
from the listener. A general rule-ofthumb is that the speakers should be at
least 1.5 metres ( 5 ft ) away from the
listener. If possible you should aim to
create an equilateral triangle with the
positioning of the two speakers and the
listener. If the speakers are too far
apart, this can lead to some sound
imperfections in the middle of the
listening area. If they are too close on
the other hand, you can lose some of
the sense of space, starting with a
reduction in the offset in depth.

Speaker position
Centre speaker in a home cinema
The best sound portrait is achieved if
you can position the centre speaker at
the middle of the picture. If you are
using a projector screen, make sure
that this is transparent to the sound.
In this application, it is also advisable
to locate the tweeter at the same level
as the listener's ear.
If you are using a conventional
television, make sure that the
magnetic field produced by the
speaker doesn't interfere with the
picture reproduction.
If you should decide to position the
speaker under the screen, make sure
that it is not located too close to the
floor to prevent the sound being
muffled if you should put any furniture
in the way later.
Speaker position
Surround speaker in a home cinema
The sound from the surround
speakers should be as diffused as
possible. This ensures that the sound
from the front will not be affected by
moving the listening position. As a
rule, the speakers should be
positioned behind the listener and at
least 0.6 metres ( 2 ft ) above earlevel. For this application, mounting
the speakers in the ceiling achieves
good results. With surround speakers,
the positioning is less important than
in other cases.

You use the metal installation frame to

insert it into the recess at an angle.

INSTALLATION IWS 85
The IWS 85 consists of two parts; the
base support (mounting frame) and the
speaker front.
Firstly, a cutout, 225 x 330 mm; is made
using the
ensure that once the speaker has
been fitted, no dirt can get onto the
speaker unit from behind.

integrated rotary tensioners for quick
installation. These rotary tensioners are
located on the rear of the speaker and
swivel out through 90° once the marked
screws on the front of the speaker are

The mounting frame is placed in the
cutout opening. Make sure it is lined
up correctly. In Fig. 1 the frame is
shown in a way that later, when the
baffle is placed in position, the
tweeter is at the
top.
Tighten the 6 rotary tensioner screws
a little, until the mounting frame is
held in position at the sides. Under no
circumstances should the mounting
frame be twisted.

Connect the speaker cable, with the
correct polarity, using the IWS 85
pluggable screw connector. Insert the
screw connector in the corresponding
socket, which is located on the
crossover board on the back of the
baffle.
Step 3 / 3
The last step is to locate the speaker
front on to the mounting frame and fix
it into place at the marked positions
(see Fig. 2) with the 6 screws
supplied. Finally, you place the
speaker grille into position by
pressing carefully on the edges.
Please do not press in the middle of

Lining up the tweeter
The IWS 85 has a tweeter that can be
swivelled to all sides. A non-centralised
position should only be set in
exceptional cases as the speaker was
developed to be used at the neutral
centre position and lateral reflections
could occur.

Colour matching
Painting the frame
Using the painting template supplied,
the speakers can be colour matched
to its location. To do this, you should
first remove the speaker grille and fix
painting template in its place

using decorator's masking tape. Make
sure that no paint spray mist can get
into the side of the speaker.
Repainting the speaker grille
If you also want to repaint the speaker
grille, you should remove the foam
from inside first. The foam is glued on
one side so that you can re-position it
once the paint has dried.

If the housing is being installed during
the building phase, we recommend
that you use the corresponding Inwall
Back Box.
! Positioning of IWS 65 !
The positioning of the IWS 65 speaker
cannot be corrected later. Before
installing the Inwall Back Box, check
the speaker position by reference to
the corresponding label inside the
housing.
Speaker cabling
There is a round hole on each side of
the Inwall Back Box with a plastic
sleeve where you can fit 20mm ( 0.79
in) cabling tubing (EN20 Flexduct).
These should be used for the ducting
for the speaker cabling. You must
ensure that the joint between the
housing and the ducting is completely
tight and that no cement can find its
way in during sealing.
Note:
Not suitable for constructions with
fair-faced concrete.

Installation of Inwall Back Box in wall
or ceiling with plaster rendering
If the Inwall Back Box is to be
installed in a (brick construction) wall,
you must ensure that the rebate
around it is kept free so that the
plaster rendering that is applied later
(shown in black in Fig. 2) ends up
being flush to the housing.
If the surface of the wall is uneven,
you should use a gasket to make sure
that there is an airtight seal

IWS 65 speaker fixing
Use the 6 wood screws for mounting
the speaker unit on the build-in
housing. In this case, the metal
mounting bracket is not used.
IWS 85 speaker fixing
Use the same method as for a
suspended ceiling to fix the IWS 85 in
the build-in housing, using the rotary
tensioners.

recommend that you use cables with

use 2-core cables.

We would advise against having
cable runs longer than 50 metres (165
ft) because of an unavoidable loss in
HiFi reproduction.
Load capacity
The power capacity details given on
the Revox rating plate refer to a
linearly set sound controller at the
amplifier.
You can use these speakers with an
amplifier with a higher output
performance. In this case, however,
you must ensure that the volume is
not turned up so high that your ear
becomes aware of an overload. You
will become aware of this in good
time by an increase in sound
distortion.
A short-term overload will not damage
your Revox speakers. If the chassis
should be damaged by a long-term
overload, this will be clearly
identifiable for a service technician. In
this case, you are no longer covered
by your Revox guarantee.
