WARNING: Melting lead and casting lead
objects will expose you and others in the
area to lead, which is known to cause birth
defects, other reproductive harm and cancer.
R
EDUCING EXPOSURE: Lead contamination in the air, in dust,
and on your skin is invisible. Keep children and pregnant women
away during use and until cleanup is complete. Risk can be reduced
— but not eliminated — with strong ventilation; washing hands
immediately after use of these products before eating or smoking;
and careful cleaning of surfaces and floors with disposable wipes,
after lead dust has had a chance to settle. Use a lead-specific cleaner with EDTA, or a high-phosphate detergent (like most detergents
sold for electric dishwashers), and bag wipes for disposal.
USE STRONG VENTILATION
SAFETY
Always wear protective clothing while
casting. Always wear effective eye protection, long sleeve shirts or overalls, leather
or cotton gloves, and shoes that cover feet
and ankles completely. Always make certain
that all casting tools are free of moisture.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The RCBS lead thermometer has a range
from 200˚F to 1000˚F. This allows the caster
to determine the metal's precise temperature.
The recommended casting temperature for
casting metals are as follows:
Pure Lead 700˚F
1:20 Tin - Lead 700˚F
1:10 Tin - Lead 700˚F
Wheel Weights 775˚F
Linotype 775˚F
TO USE:
Separate the thermometer and safety
handle from the box. Clean the
thermometer thoroughly. Be sure any
foreign matter is removed from the
thermometer. The safety handle allows
the thermometer to be clipped on iron
pots and round pots with rims. The
handle can also be used to place the
thermometer in furnaces such as the
RCBS Pro-Melt. Simply place the
thermometer, stem first, into the pot
and rest the dial over the edge. Carefully
remove the thermometer from the metal
once the desired temperature has
been reached.
