AC OUTLET POWER SUPPLY
Refer to the above chart for adapter (transformer) information that can be used with your unit (not included in US). AC/DC adaptor is purposed for dry indoor use only. Remove the jack from the device to use it with the batteries.
Note : Power is fed to the unit even when it is not functioning. To cut the power sup­ply off, the AC/DC adaptor must be unplugged.
CAR (DC) POWER SUPPLY ADAPTOR (not included)
Plug the car (DC) power supply adaptor into the DC in 4.5V jack at the rear/side of the CD player & then into the cigarette lighter receptacle in your car.
BA TTERIES POWER SUPPLY
Refer to the table for details of the bat­teries required to operate your unit. Recharge function (For LAD1090U only)
To charge Ni-Cd batteries (not included): Insert 2 rechargeable batteries in the compartment. Turn the recharge switch to the ON position at the back of the unit. Connect the main adaptor. The batteries take about eight hours to become fully charged if the player is not operating.
Important : If you use your CD player with non rechargeable batteries, turn OFF the switch at the back of the unit in order to prevent any damage to the unit or batteries.

THE CD PLAYER

1. controlswitch - To lock or unlock the but­tons
2. volume - T o adjust the volume.
3. jack - Insert your headphones here.
4. dc jack - You can insert the adapter instead of batteries for indoor use.
5. radio on•off button - To turn on/off the radio.
6. m (mode) /st•mono button - For repeat, and random playback function; selects between stereo and mono in FM band.
7. p (program) button - T o program CD play­back and set preset station in tuner mode.
8. bass boost - Press to adjust Bass Boost level.
9. fm tuning - Tune down or up the FM band frequency.
10. (stop) button - On the main unit, stops CD playback. On the remote control, stops CD playback and turns off radio.
11. seek / (play/pause) button - Plays CD. On the main unit, press to enter seek mode in FM tuner.
12. /preset down - Skips to previous track; goes to previous program/preset loca­tion.
13. /preset up - Skips to the next track; goes to the next program/preset station loca­tion.

THE CD PLAYER
Listening to a Compact Disc
This unit is compatible with CD-R and CD-RW discs for playback
1. Slide the open switch to the right to open the door. Insert a disc and press lightly on the centre to secure disc loading. Close the door.
2. Press play/pause button. “rd disc” will show on the display while the disc is being read. Playback will begin once reading is finished. If the disc compartment is empty or the disc can­not be played, “no disc” will show on the display.
T rack Search
1. Press skip forward to skip to the next track or skip back to go back to the previous track. Y ou can also change tracks or quickly listen to part of a track by pressing or holding these buttons.
Listening to a CD in your car
(not included)
1. Select a power source (either battery power or the car DC adaptor)
2. Insert the cassette adaptor into the tape deck and plug the cord into the CD player’s phones jack.
3 . Insert a compact disc and press play/pause button. Adjust CD player’s volume to a mid level (make sure
the Bass Boost is turned off).
4. Use the car stereo to adjust volume, tone .

The ELECTRONIC SHOCK
PROTECTION* system prevents sound interruptions when impacts or vibrations occur. Electronic anti-shock consumes less power and increases the battery life. Therefore, the ESPX function is always ON. After many successive impacts, the buffer might be emptied causing a brief sound interruption for the memory to reload. The buffer is 45 seconds long.

Program is cancelled once you press stop. To reactivate program playback, Press P, then play .
PAUSE
Press play/pause to suspend playback The minutes and secondes flash when interrupted.
STOP
Press stop to stop playback.
The player switches off automatically after 30 seconds or press stop key twice to turn off your CD player .
BASS BOOST
Press bass boost to select between bass boost 1, bass boost 2 and off.
LOCK
Slide the control button to HOLD to lock buttons in order to prevent accidental activation.

Resume
When you power off the unit (without disconnecting power supply), Resume is automatically activated. It stores the following settings and modes: Mode (Repeat/Repeat All/ Random), EQ setting (Bass Boost) and ESPX. When play mode is on again, the unit resumes to the settings.
To automatically store current track when you stop CD play, press STOP but­ton twice.
Repeat and Random Playback
Y ou can replay the entire CD or one track as many times as you want; Press m repeatedly to
1. Replay the entire disc;
2. Replay the current track;
3. Random playback
4.Press repeatedly until no repeat or ran­dom play icons show on display for de­selection.
Program
This function lets you listen to the tracks you selected in the order you want. The
CD player must be in Stop mode.
1. Press P. P will be flashing on the display.
2. Select the track to be stored by press­ing skip back or skip forward.
3. Press P again to confirm and store.
4. Repeat steps 2-3 to store other tracks.
5. Press play button to listen to your programming. Y ou can program up to 24 tracks.
Note : The unit switches off automatically after 30s if no key has been activated to prevent excessive battery consumption. During programming, the unit can switch off if you do not press any key within 30s.
• To playyour program, press play. P will be displayed.
• To addtracks to the program, enter STOP mode and press the P button again. Refer to steps 2-3 of the above.
• To edit program, enter STOP mode and press the P button. Press P repeatedly to select the program number you want to edit. Follow steps 2-3 above to select track.

USEFUL ADVICE
• Do not store CDs in damp areas.
• Do not expose CDs to high temperatures or direct sunlight.
• Do not put any tape or adhesives on either side of the disc.
• Y ou should avoid leaving the CD door open. Dust is liable to impair performance of the laser optical unit.
• Do not use your set immediately after transport from a cold place to a warm place : there may be condensation problems.
• Do not touch the playing surface. Make sure that you keep your set away from water and high temperatures.
• If you do not use your set on battery power for more than one month, we advise you to take out all the batteries.
• To prevent personal injury, do not reverse any battery and do not mix battery types.
• Discard leaking batteries immediately. Leaking batteries can cause skin burns or other personal injury.
• Thomson recommends Duracell Ultra Batteries.
Caution: Charge batteries if the switch at the back of the unit is ON (for Thomson Model only). Do not attempt to charge when recharge switch is OFF, you may dam­age the unit and batteries.
• Prolonged use of the CD player at full volume can damage the user’s ear.
SPC: Sound Pressure Control at 100dB maximum (only for Thomson models)

Before throwing any batteries away, consult your distributor who may be able to take them back for specific recycling.
MAINTENANCE
Clean the player with a soft cloth, or a damp chamois leather. Never use solvents.
Notes on CD-R/RW Discs
• CD-R/RW discs that are recorded by
personal computers or some CD-R/RW recorders may not be played on this unit due to the differences in recording platforms.
• Do not load an unrecorded CD-R/RW
disc into the unit. This may take a longer time to read the disc.

Listening to FM Radio
1. Press radio on•off button to select FM radio.
Note: If the player is in CD mode, playback must be stopped or the disc compartment must be empty before pressing radio on•off to enter radio mode.
2. Press fm tuning buttons to search the desired station.
Auto Search
1. Press seek to enter auto search mode. “seek” will appear on the display.
2. Press fm tuning buttons to auto search up or down in FM frequency. Search will stop when a station is found.
Setting Presets
Y our player has 20 preset stations for easy access to your favorite FM radio stations.
Y ou can change the frequency of the preset stations whenever you like:
1. Press radio on•off button to select FM radio.
2. Press P button once. The preset num­ber will flash.
3. Search the desired frequency with fm tuning buttons.
4. Press preset down or preset up button to assign the preset station number.
5. Press P button again to store preset station.
6. Repeat steps 3 to step 5 to store other preset stations.
7. Press stop to confirm your selection.
Using Presets
1. Press radio on•off button to select FM radio.
2. Press preset down or preset
up buttons to access the previ­ous or next preset station.
The display will show the frequency and the program number.
Suppressing Stereo
Press m / st•mono button to select between FM mono and stereo for stereo FM stations.

Thomson multimedia Ltd. warrants to the purchaser or gift recipient that if any manufacturing defect becomes apparent in this product within 1 year from the original date of purchase, it will be replaced free of charge, including return transportation. This warranty does not include damage to the product resulting from accidents, misuse or leaking batteries. Should your product not perform properly during the warranty period, either:
1. Return it to the selling dealer with proof of purchase for replacement, OR
2. Remove the batteries (where applicable), and pack product complete with accessories in the
original carton (or equivalent).

What your warranty covers:
• Any defect in materials or workmanship.
For how long after your purchase:
• One year (The warranty period for rental units begins with the first rental or 45 days from date of shipment to the rental firm, whichever comes first.)
What we will do:
• Provide you with a new, or at our option, a refurbished unit.
• The exchange unit is under warranty for the remainder of the original product's warranty period.
How to make a warranty claim:
• Properly pack your unit. Include any cables, etc., which were originally provided with the product. We recommend using the original carton and packing materials.
• Include in the package evidence of purchase date such as the bill of sale. Also print your name and address and a description of the defect. Send standard UPS or its equivalent to:

• Pay any charges billed to you by the Exchange Center for service not covered by the warranty.

• Customer instruction. (Your Owner's Manual provides information regarding
operating instructions and user controls. For additional information, ask your dealer.)
• Installation and set-up service adjustments.
• Batteries.
• Damage from misuse or neglect.
• Products which have been modified or incorporated into other products.
• Products purchased or serviced outside the USA.
• Acts of God, such as but not limited to lightning damage.
How state law relates to this warranty:
• This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may have other rights which vary from
state to state.
If you purchased your product outside the USA:
