INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

FOR BRAKE REPLACEMENT KIT #251252

USED ON PATRIOT 15000 WINCH

(EFFECTIVE FOR WINCH DATE CODES L09502001 THROUGH L31202016)

1. Unspool cable and remove from winch. Label electrical connections between vehicle battery and solenoid
assembly and disconnect. It is not necessary to remove solenoid assembly from winch.

2. Remove winch from mounting channel and place on work
bench, with gear end of winch down.

3. Loosen tie bar bolts on motor assembly and set aside.

4. Lift motor assembly (including solenoid assembly) off of
drum and tie bars. Set aside.

5. Remove motor coupling and discard.

6. Lift Drum assembly from Gear Housing assembly.

Output sun gear should remain engaged with the intermediate output
shaft, but if it comes off with drum, as shown below, pull on it to
loosen, then replace it over the intermediate output shaft.

Once the output sun gear is removed, discard
the existing drum including the brake.

7. Remove input shaft from gear housing assem­bly and set aside.

8. Refer to Kit Parts List on page 5 for new part
item numbers.

9. Examine gear housing seal on inside of gear
housing and replace if needed with item #4.

If replacing seal, cover with a thin film of
grease (use Mobilith SHC 007 synthetic
grease or use excess from the new prelubri­cated drum assembly).

10. Take the new pre-lubricated drum assembly (item #3) and
place on the gear end, meshing the sun gear with the planetary
gears in the drum. Make sure the drum is fully seated and cen­tered on the gear housing as shown at right.
