PATRIOT 15000/12000 OUTPUT SUN GEAR REPLACEMENT KIT

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

This kit allows the replacement of the output sun gear and output sun gear shaft used in Patriot 15000/12000 model
winches.

1. Unspool cable and remove from drum. Label electrical connec­tions between vehicle battery and solenoid assembly and dis­connect. It is not necessary to remove solenoid assembly from
winch.

2. Remove winch from mounting channel and place on work
bench, with motor end of winch down.

3. Loosen and remove tie bars. Set aside.

4. Lift Gear End Bearing Assembly from drum. Remove the output
sun gear and the thrust washers on either side of it and discard.

5. Set gear end bearing assembly down with gear end cover up.

6. Loosen six capscrews that hold gear end cover onto gear end.

7. Lift off the gear end cover, then carefully remove thrust disc, thrust
washers, spacer, and gear carrier assemblies. The input and interme­diate sun gears will probably come out with the carrier assemblies.
Discard the intermediate gear carrier assembly.

8. The output sun gear shaft, snap ring, and thrust washer may not be
intact. Thoroughly remove all pieces of these items and clean
the inside of the gear end assembly and ring gear. If necessary,
use parts cleaner and reapply Mobilith SHC 007 synthetic grease to
all splined surfaces of gears before reassembling. Remove the ring
gear if necessary.

Reassembling the Winch

9. Lift the gear end assembly and insert the new output sun gear
(item #2) through the opening. Slide the thrust washer (item #6)
over the shaft and snap the snap ring (item #5) into place so that
the shaft is held in place on the gear end assembly. Apply Mobilith
SHC 007 synthetic grease to both ends of the gear.
