Automotive Surge and Spike Protector
270-1565
Step One
The US SocietyofAutomotiveEngineers [SAE]hasdocumentedtheexistence of powersurgesandhighvoltage spikeson cigarettelightersandother 12-volt DC power outletcircuits. These potentiallydamaging spikes can be as great as 600 volts! Computers, TV's, DVD players, PDA's, cell phones, and other portable electronicscan be damagedby these surges and spikes if unprotected.Protect your equipmentby pluggingthe Automotive Surge andSpike Protectorinto your vehicle’s cigarette lighter socket or power outlet. Then plug your equipmentinto the Protector. Thisproductcomplies with SAESpecification J1113-11andISO Specification 7637. T ests wereperformed by an independenttesting laboratory verifying that the unit eliminated the potentially damaging surges and spikes identified in these specifications. Use of this productprovides you with an assurance that your sensitive and valuable electronics are connectedto a powerful, power-conditioning circuit that will divert damaging high voltage spikes. The three outlets can carry a combined12-volt DC load of 10 amps and are protected by a replaceable 15-amp fuse. For best r esults, follow theInstallation and Use instructions.

Step Two
Installation and Use
1. Insert the power plug firmly into the vehicle's 12-volt cigaretteoutlet or other 12 volt-DC powersource.
2. The green LED should light. If not, try turning the vehicle's ignition switch to the "On" or "Accessory" position. Some vehicles turn off all 12-voltcircuits when the key is turned off.
If you areusing a cigarette lighter receptacle and the LED still does not light, check the cigarettelighter
circuitto see if the lighter heats up. Push the lighter intothereceptacleuntilit latches.Ifthe lighterdoesnot heatup and pop out after30 seconds, youmay have a defective lighter or a blown fuse in the lighter circuit. Referto your vehicle owner's manual for the fuse locationand replacement procedure.
If you areusing a separately provided12-volt DC power outlet and the LED does not light, check the
fuse in the circuit by referring to your owner’s manual for the fuse location and replacement procedure.

3. If the LED goes out, the adapter’s surge and spike protectioncircuits are not working.Check the adapter’s replaceable fuse and if blown, replace with the same type of 15-amp fuse. Replace the fuse by pressingin the tip, rotating it, then pull to remove.
4. Beforeusing the adapter, unplug all items connected to the adapter.Connect your products one at a time to see if one of the productsis causing the fuse to blow.If the fuse blows immediatelyafter insertingthe product'sadapterpluginto anoutlet, replace thefuse in theadapter and have the productrepaired.
5. If the green LED turns off afternormal operation, the surge and spike protector has experienceda powerfulsurge and has protectedyour equipment. In doing so, the protection circuitry has been depleted and thesurge and spike protector must be replaced to continue protecting your equipment.
