QLogic’s FabricCache 10000 Series Host Bus Adapters utilize a flashbased server-side cache, to optimize I/O between the server and storage.
FabricCache provides significant benefits to I/O-intensive applications such
as Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC). The QLE10000 will accelerate
your RAC database infrastructure, providing greater utilization, better I/O
throughput and reliability. The combination of Oracle RAC and
FabricCache provides both clustered database cache and on-server storage
cache, resulting in a substantial increase in data access performance, while
providing a reduction in storage resource utilization.
What is Oracle Real Application Clusters?
Oracle Real Application Clusters supports the transparent deployment of a
single database across pools of servers, providing fault tolerance from
hardware failures or planned outages. Oracle RAC provides Oracle’s
highest level of capability in terms of availability, scalability, and low-cost
computing.
What are QLogic FabricCache Adapters?
The QLogic 10000 Series FabricCache 8Gb Fibre Channel Adapter is a
ground-breaking enterprise-ready solution that combines QLogic's marketleading Fibre Channel adapter, intelligent caching and I/O management
with connectivity to a server-based PCIe flash card to dramatically increase
application performance. The QLogic FabricCache Adapter caches SAN
data to accelerate server I/O access, and provides shared caching for
clustered, virtualized, and distributed workloads across the data center.

Oracle and Qlogic Working Together
By combining storage acceleration capabilities of QLogic
FabricCache adapters with the world-class scalability of
Oracle RAC, it’s possible to build a low-cost database infrastructure
that will maximize database reliability and performance.
The idea is a simple one: Oracle RAC distributes database
workloads across clusters of commodity servers, providing the
flexibility and reliability of operating applications in a clustered
environment. QLogic FabricCache adapters in those servers provide
fast, reliable server-side cache, giving Oracle RAC faster access to
data that would otherwise have to be fetched from the SAN. Benefits
include:
• Reduced transaction response times
• Reduced storage array workload
• Transparently integrates with existing SAN infrastructures
These benefits translate into improved resource utilization, increased
ROI on the SAN infrastructure, reduced costs and sustained
performance.

KEY BENEFITS:
By providing
applications with the
ability to spread their
database activity
across multiple
servers, Oracle RAC
provides applications
with data access that
is efficient, scalable,
and fault tolerant.
QLogic’s QLE10000
caching Host Bus
Adaptor provides
Oracle RAC with I/O
access that is faster
than always directly
accessing the storage
system across a SAN
fabric. This means
that Oracle RAC
workload on each
node (server) can
scale further because
disk I/O is less likely
to become a
bottleneck for Oracle
RAC.
