4 SYMBOLS
The following symbols are used in this manual and/or on the machine:
5 GENERAL POWER TOOL SAFETY WARNINGS
Read all safety warnings and instructions. Failure to heed warnings and follow instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. Keep safety warnings and instructions for future reference. The term "power tool" in the safety warnings refers to your mainsoperated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.
5.1 Working area
Keep working area clean and well lit. Untidy and dark areas can lead to accidents. Do not operate power tools in potentially explosive surroundings, for example, in the
presence of inflammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
Keep children and bystanders at a distance when operating a power tool. Distractions can
cause you to lose control of it.
5.2 Electrical safety
Always check that the power supply corresponds to the voltage on the rating plate.

Page 5
Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use
POW63703 EN
adapter plugs with earthed power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce the risk of a lethal electric shock.
Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces such as pipes, radiators, kitchen ranges and
refrigerators. There is an increased risk of a lethal electric shock if your body is earthed.
Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. If water gets inside a power tool, it will
increase the risk of a lethal electric shock.
Do not damage the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power
tool. Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of a lethal electric shock.
When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cable suitable for outdoor use.
Using a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of a lethal electric shock.
If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a power supply protected
by a residual current device (RCD). Using an RCD reduces the risk of a lethal electric shock.
5.3 Personal safety
Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power
tool. Do not use a power tool when you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention when operating a power tool may result in serious personal injury.
Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Using safety equipment such as a
dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, a hard hat, or hearing protection whenever it is needed will reduce the risk of personal injury.
Avoid accidental starts. Ensure the switch is in the off position before inserting the plug.
Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or plugging in power tools when the switch is in the on position makes accidents more likely.
Remove any adjusting keys or spanners before turning on the power tool. A spanner or
key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
Do not reach out too far. Keep your feet firmly on the ground at all times. This will enable
you retain control over the power tool in unexpected situations.
Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and
gloves away from the power tool. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can become entangled in the moving parts.
If there are devices for connecting dust extraction and collection facilities, please ensure
that they are attached and used correctly. Using such devices can reduce dust-related hazards.
5.4 Power tool use and care
Do not expect the power tool to do more than it can. Use the correct power tool for what
you want to do. A power tool will achieve better results and be safer if used in the context for which it was designed.
Do not use the power tool if the switch cannot turn it on and off. A power tool with a broken
switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
Disconnect the plug from the power source before making adjustments, changing
accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
Store power tools, when not in use, out of the reach of children and do not allow people
who are not familiar with the power tool or these instructions to operate it. Power tools are potentially dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
Maintenance. Check for misalignment or jammed moving parts, breakages or any other
feature that might affect the operation of the power tool. If it is damaged, the power tool must be repaired. Many accidents are caused by using poorly maintained power tools.
Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting
edges are less likely to jam and are easier to control.

Use the power tool, accessories and cutting tools, etc., in accordance with these
instructions and in the manner intended for the particular type of power tool, taking into account the working conditions and the work which needs to be done. Using a power tool in ways for which it was not intended can lead to potentially hazardous situations.
5.5 Service
Your power tool should be serviced by a qualified specialist using only standard spare
parts. This will ensure that it meets the required safety standards.
6 ADDITIONAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR LAWN MOWERS
Never allow children or people unfamiliar with these instructions to use the lawnmower.
Local regulations may restrict the age of the operator.
Never mow while people, especially children or pets, are nearby. The operator or user is responsible for accidents or hazards occurring to other people or
their property.
Do not operate the lawnmower when barefoot or wearing open sandals, always wear
substantial footwear and long trousers.
Thoroughly inspect the area where the lawnmower is to be used and remove all stones,
sticks, wires, bones and other foreign objects.
Before using, always visually inspect to see that the blades, blade bolts and cutter
assembly are not worn or damaged.
Replace worn or damaged blades and bolts in sets to preserve balance. Mow only in daylight or in good artificial light. Avoid operating the lawnmower in wet grass, where feasible. Walk, never run. Never operate the appliance with defective guards or shields, or without safety device, for
example deflectors and/or grass catchers in place.
Mowing on banks can be dangerous:
Do not mow excessively steep slopes. Always be sure of your footing on slopes or wet grass. Mow across the face of slopes – never up and down. Exercise extreme caution when changing direction on slopes. Use extreme caution when stepping back or pulling the lawnmower towards you. Never mow by pulling the mower towards you.
Stop the blades if the lawnmower has to be tilted for transportation when crossing
surfaces other than grass and when transporting the lawnmower to and from the area to be mowed.
Do not tilt the machine when starting or switching on the motor, except if the machine has
to be tilted for starting in long grass. In this case, do not tilt it more than absolutely necessary and tilt only the part which is away from the operator. Always ensure that both hands are in the operating position before returning the machine to the ground.
Switch on the lawnmower according to instructions and with feet well away from the
blades.
Do not put hands or feet near or under rotating parts. Keep clear of discharge opening at all times. Never pick up or carry the lawnmower while the motor is running. Remove the plug from the socket:
whenever you leave the machine before clearing a blockage before checking, cleaning or working on the lawnmower after striking a foreign object. Inspect the lawnmower for damage and make repairs as
necessary if the lawnmower starts to vibrate abnormally (check immediately).
Keep all nuts, bolts and screws tight to be sure that the lawnmower is in safe working
condition.

8 SETTING THE CUTTING HEIGHTS
Important! Adjust the cutting height only when the engine is switched off and the power cable has been disconnected.
Before you begin to mow, check to ensure that the blade is not blunt and that none of the fasteners are damaged. To prevent any imbalance, replace blunt and/or damaged blades. To carry out this check, first switch off the motor and pull out the power plug. To obtain the desired cutting height, the front and rear axles are repositioned on the underside of the mower housing.
Warning! Disconnect the mower from the power supply and ensure the blade has stopped coasting before adjusting the height.
8.1 To adjust the front wheel cutting height position (fig. 2a)
Turn the mower upside down. Pull the wheel axle towards the front of the mower. Locate the wheel axle into the desired cutting height adjustment position.
Note: Make sure that both front right and left wheels are located in the same cutting height adjustment position.
8.2 To adjust the rear wheel cutting height position (fig. 2b)
Turn the mower on its side. Pull the rear wheel axle towards the mowers catcher flap. Locate the wheel axle into the desire cutting height adjustment position.

9 OPERATION
9.1 Connect to power supply.
Before you connect the equipment to the mains supply make sure that the data on the rating plate are identical to the mains data. Connect the plug to an extension cable. It is imperative to secure the extension cable with the cable grip.
9.2 Starting (Fig. 3)
Press and hold safety button (A) (then squeeze the switch lever (B) towards the handle). Release the safety button.
9.3 Stopping
Release the switch lever.
ATTENTION : After switching off, the cutting blade will go on turning for a few seconds, make sure the blade has come to a complete standstill.
CAUTION: Do not rapidly switch off and on.
9.4 Safety button
Important! To prevent the machine switching on accidentally, the lawn mower is equipped with a safety lock-off which must be pressed before the switching bar can be activated. The lawn mower switches itself off when the switch is released. Repeat this process several times so that you are sure that the machine functions properly. Before you perform any repair or maintenance work on the machine, ensure that the blade is not rotating and that the power supply is disconnected.
Important! Never open the discharge flap if the grass bag is being emptied and the motor is still running. The rotating blade can cause serious injuries.
Always secure the discharge flap and grass bag carefully. Always switch off the motor before you remove these items. The safety distance between the blade casing and the user provided by the guide struts must be maintained at all times.
9.5 Information on correct mowing
We recommend that you mow in overlapping lines. Only mow with sharp, perfect blades so that the blades of grass do not fray, making the lawn turn yellow. The cutting height should be between 4 and 6 cm and the growth before the next cut should be between 4 and 5 cm. If the lawn grows longer than this on occasion, do not make the mistake of cutting to normal length straight away since this will damage the lawn. Never cut the grass by more than half its height. Keep the underside of the mower casing clean and remove all grass deposits from it. Deposits make it more difficult to start the mower and also adversely affect the mowing quality and the grass discharge. On slopes mow across the slope (not in up or down direction). You can counteract the tendency of the mower to slide down the slope by setting it at an angle upwards. Select the cutting height to suit the actual length of the grass. Make several passes to ensure that you do not remove more than 4 cm of grass length in any one pass. Switch off the motor before you carry out any inspections of the blade. Remember than the blade will continue to turn for a few seconds after the motor has been switched off. Never attempt to stop the blade.
Copyright © 2014 VARO P a g e | 8 www.varo.com
Page 9
Check regularly that the blade is correctly secured, in good condition and well ground. If not, grind or replace the blade. If the moving blade strikes an object, stop the mower and wait until the blade has come to a complete standstill. Then check the condition of the blade and the blade holder. If they are damaged, they must be replaced. Place the mains lead in loops on the ground in front of the socket. Mow away from the socket and cable and ensure that the mains lead is always on the section of lawn that you have already mowed so that you do not run over the mains lead with the mower. As soon as you see mown grass on the lawn whilst you are mowing, the grass bag will need emptying.
10 CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Attention! Before performing any work on the equipment, pull out the power plug.
10.1 Cleaning
Keep all safety devices, air vents and the motor housing free of dirt and dust as far as
possible. Wipe the equipment with a clean cloth or blow it with compressed air at low pressure.
We recommend that you clean the device immediately each time you have finished using
it.
Clean the equipment regularly with a moist cloth and some soft soap. Do not use cleaning
agents or solvents; these could attack the plastic parts of the equipment. Ensure that no water can seep into the device.
Never use solvents such as petrol, alcohol, ammonia water, etc. These solvents may damage the plastic parts.
10.2 Blade maintenance(fig.4)
Regularly remove grass and dirt from the blade. At the beginning of the gardening season, carefully examine the condition of the blade. If the blade is very blunt, sharpen or replace the blade. If the blade is damaged or worn, fit a new blade.
POW63703 EN
Warning! Observe the following precautions:
Disconnect the mower from the mains and wait until the blade has stopped rotating before
proceeding.
Be careful not to cut yourself. Use heavy-duty gloves or a cloth to grip the blade. Only use the specified replacement blade. Do not remove the impeller (A)for any reason.
10.3 Replacing the blade
For safety reasons, we recommend having the blade replaced by an authorized professional.
Important: Wear work gloves!
