A WARNING: Inspect area before use.
Remove all debris and hard objects such as rocks, glass, wire, etc. that can ricochet, be
thrown, or otherwise cause injury or damage during operation.
Always wear eye protection when operat- ing, servicing, or performing maintenance on this attachment. Wearing eye protection
will help to prevent rocks or debris from be- ing blown or ricocheting into eyes and face which can result in blindness and/or seri-
ous injury. Eye protection should be marked Z87.
Always wear foot protection. Do not go barefoot or wear sandals.
Always wear respirator or face mask when working with unit in dusty environments.
Secure hair above shoutder length. Secure or remove jewelry, loose ctothing, or cloth-
ing with loosely hanging straps, ties, tas- sels, etc. They can be caught in moving
parts.
Do not operate unit when you are tired, ill, upset, or if you are under the influence of al-
cohol, drugs, or medication.
Keep children, bystanders, and animals away from work area a minimum of 30 feet (10 meters) when starting or operating unit.
Do not point blower discharge opening in the direction of people or pets.
FUEL SAFETY (for gas powerheads)
Eliminate all sources of sparks or flame (in- cluding smoking, open flames, or work that can cause sparks) in the areas where fuel is
mixed, poured, or stored.
Mix and pour fuel in an outdoor area; store fuel in a cool, dry, well ventilated place; use
an approved, marked container for all fuel purposes.
Do not smoke while handling fuel or while operating the unit.
Make sure the attachment is properly as- sembled and in good operating condition.
Do not fill fuel tank while engine is running.
Avoid spilling fuel or oil. Wipe up fuel spills before starting engine.
Move at least 10 feet (3 meters) away from fuel and fueling site before starting engine.
Always store gasoline in a container ap- proved for flammable liquids.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY (for electric powerheads)
AWARNING:
Avoid a dangerous environment. To reduce the
risk of electrical shock, do not use in rain, in
damp or wet locations, or around swimming
pools, hot tubs, etc. Do not expose to snow, rain, or water to avoid the possibility of electrical
shock. Do not use on wet surfaces. Do not han- dle extension cord plug or unit with wet hands. Avoid dangerous situations. Do not use in the
presence of flammable liquids or gases to avoid
creating a tire or explosion and/or causing dam- age to unit. Do not abuse cord. Never carry the
unit by the extension cord or yank extension
cord to disconnect unit. To unplug, grasp the
plug, not the cord. Do not use cord as a handle,
close a door on cord, or pull cord around sharp edges or corners. Turn off all controls before un-
plugging. Do not expose cords to heat, oil, or
water. Do not use with damaged cord or plug. If
unit is not working as it should, has been
dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped
into water, return it to your authorized service
dealer for repair. Unplug the unit from the power source when not in use, before servicing, and when changing accessories and/or attach-
ments. Do not put any object into openings. Do
-2-
not use with any opening blocked; keep free of dust, lint, hair and anything that may reduce air flow.
Use only a voltage supply as shown on the nameplate of the powerhead.
Avoid dangerous environments. Do not use in unventilated areas or where dust or explo-
sive vapors can build up,
To reduce the risk of electric shock, the powerhead may have a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other); if so, it will re-
quire the use of a polarized extension cord. The appliance plug will fit into a polarized
extension cord only one way. If the plug does notfit fully into the extension cord, re-
verse the plug. If the plug still does not fit, obtain a correct polarized extension cord, A polarized extension cord will require the
use of a polarized wall outlet, This plug will fit into the polarized wail outlet only one
way. If plug does not fit fully into the wail outlet, reverse the plug, If it still does not fit,
contact a qualified etectrician to instalt the proper wall outlet, Do not change the equip- ment plug, extension cord receptacle, or
extension cord plug in any way.
To reduce risk of electrical shock, use ex- tension cords specifically marked as suit- able for outdoor appliances having etectri-
cat rating not less than the rating of unit. Cord must be marked with suffix "W-A" (in Canada "W"), Make sure your extension
cord is in good condition, Inspect extension cord before use and replace if damaged. Do
not use a damaged cord, Cord insulation must be intact with no cracks or deteriora-
tion, Plug connectors must beundamaged. The extension cord used to reach the pow-
er source must be heavy enough to carry current from the power source the full length
of the extension cord to the unit. An under- sized extension cord wilt cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating, If in doubt, use the next heavi-
er gauge. The lower the gauge number, the heavier the cord,
Do not use muttipte cords.
Keep the extension cord clear ofoperator and obstacles at atl times,
Tie cord to cord retainer and connect to re- cessed plug as shown in this manuat to pre- vent damage to unit and/or extension cord
and to reduce the possibility of the exten- sion cord disconnecting from the unit during operation,
Do not attempt to repair unit, inspect the insu- lation and connectors on the powerhead and
extension cord before each use. If there is any damage, do not use until damage is re-
paired by your authorized service dealer,
Do not use the powerhead if the switch does not turn the unit on and off properly,
Have the unit repaired by your authorized service dealer,
Avoid unintentional starting ofthe unit. Nev- er carry unit with your finger on the switch.
Be sure the switch is in the OFF position and never touch the switch when connect-
ing extension cord.
Avoid any body contact with any grounded conductor, such as metal fences, or pipes, to
avoid the possibility of electric shock.
Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection should be provided on the circuit
or outlet to be used for the powerhead, Re- ceptacles are available having built-in
GFCI protection and may be used for this measure of safety,
Stop the motor immediately if you are ap- proached.
