UNIT/MAINTENANCE SAFETY
S Disconnect the spark plug before
performingmaintenance exceptcarburetor adjustments.

parts beforeeachuse. Lookfor andrepair fuel leaks before use. Keep in good working condition.
S Replace trimmer head parts that are
chipped,cracked,broken,ordamagedin any other way before using the unit.
S Makesureunitisassembledcorrectlyas
shown in this manual.
S Make carburetor adjustments with lower
end supported to prevent line from contacting any object.
S Keepothersawaywhenmakingcarburetor
adjustments.
S Use only recommended WEED EA TER
accessories and replacement parts.
FUEL SAFETY
S Mix and pour fuel outdoors. S Keep away from sparks or flames. S Use a container approved for fuel. S Donotsmokeor allowsmokingnearfuelor
the unit.
S Wipe up all fuel spills. S Moveatleast10feet(3meters)away from
fueling site before starting engine.
S Stop engine and allow to cool before
removing fuel cap.
CUTTING SAFETY
S Use only for trimming, mowing, and
sweeping. Donotuseforedging,pruning, or hedge trimming.
S Inspecttheareabeforeeachuse.Remove
objects (rocks, brokenglass, nails,wire, etc.) which canbe thrownby orbecome entangledinline.Hardobjects candamage trimmer head and be thrown causing serious injury.
S Keep firm footing and balance. Do not
overreach.
S Keep all parts of your body away from
spinning line and muffler. Keep engine belowwaistlevel. Ahotmufflercancause serious burns.
S Cuttingwiththelineonleftsideoftheshield
will throw debris away from theoperator.

TRANSPORTING AND STORAGE
S Allowtheenginetocool;secureunitbefore
storing or transporting in vehicle.
S Empty the fuel tank before storing or
transportingtheunit. Useupfuelleftinthe carburetorbystartingtheengineandletting it run until it stops.
S Store unit and fuel in an area where fuel
vaporscannotreachsparksoropenflames from water heaters, electric motors or switches, furnaces, etc.
S Storeunitsolinelimiter cannotaccidentally

ASSEMBLY
S Rotate handle to upright position and
tighten in acomfortable positionbetween thetrigger and thesafety labelon thetube. Tighten handle securely.
A TTACH THE SHIELD
W ARNING:Theshieldmustbeproperly
installed. The shield provides partial protectionfromtheriskofthrown objectsto theoperatorandothersandisequippedwith alinelimiterwhichcuts excess line. Theline limiter(on undersideof shield)is sharpand can cut you.

FUEL YOUR UNIT
This engine is certified to operate on unleadedgasoline. Gasolinemustbemixed withagoodquality2-- cycleair--cooledengine oil designed to be mixed at a ratio of 40:1. Poulan/Weed Eater brand oil is recommended. (A40:1 ratiois obtainedby mixing 3.2 ounces of oil with 1 gallon of unleadedgasoline). Whenmixingfuelfollow the instructions printed on the container. Always readandfollowthesafetyrulesunder
FUEL SAFETY.

HOW TO START YOUR UNIT

COLD ENGINE STARTING OR STARTING AFTER REFUELING
S Set unit on a flat surface. S Slowly press the primer bulb 6 times. S Move choke lever to FULL CHOKE
position.
S Squeeze thethrottle triggerfully andhold
through all remaining steps.
S Pull starter rope handle sharply 6 times. S Move choke lever to HALF CHOKE
position.
S Pull starter rope handle no more than 6
pulls, until engine runs.
S Allowenginetorun10seconds,thenmove
choke lever to OFF CHOKE position.
RESTARTING A W ARM ENGINE
S Movechokelever toOFFCHOKEposition. S Pull starterrope handleuntil engineruns. S If engine does not start in 5 pulls, follow
instructions in STARTING A COLD ENGINE.
USING YOUR UNIT

S Pushandholdtheenginestopswitchinthe
STOP/OFF position until the unit has fully
stopped.
S Disconnect the spark plug lead wire. S Remove spool by firmly pulling on tap
button.
S Clean entire surface of hub and spool. S Replacewithapre-woundspool,or cuttwo
lengths of 12-1/2 feet of .080” (2 mm) diameter WeedEater rbrand line.Never usewire,rope,string,etc.,whichcanbreak off and become a dangerous missile.
S Insertends ofthelineabout 1/2inch (1cm)
into the small hole on the inside of spool.

S Wind the line evenly and tightly onto the
spool. Wind in the directionof thearrows found on the spool.
S Pushthelineintothenotches,leaving3to5
inches (7 -- 12 cm) unwound.
S Insertthe lineinto thethe exitholes inthe
hub as shown in the illustration.
S Align the notches with the line exit hole. S Pushspoolintohubuntilitsnaps intoplace. S Pullthelineextendingoutsideofthehubto
release it from the notch.

ADVANCING THE CUTTING LINE
Advance line by tapping the bottom of the cutting head lightly on the ground while engineisrunningatfullspeed. Ametalblade attached to the shield will cut the line tothe proper length.

CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENTS
Y ourcarburetoris equippedwithlimitercaps. Adjusting the carburetor is a complicated task.Werecommendthatyoutakeyour unit toanAuthorizedServiceDealer.Damagewill occur if you turn the needles beyond the limiter stops.
IGNITION TIMING
The ignition timing is fixed,non-- adjustable.
SPARK PLUG
Replace the spark plug yearly using a ChampionRCJ-- 8Y plug. Spark plug gap is .025”.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Engine will not start.
