INDICATIONS:
Foam Pad - Low risk patients requiring comfort, warmth and/or protection
against abrasions from contact surfaces.
Gel Pad - Low risk patients requiring pressure relief from contact surfaces or
protection when there is a concern for falls.
Posey Knitted Heel and Elbow Protectors offer comfortable sock-like protective coverings
made from a soft stretchable yarn. The yarn is a unique blend of acrylic/nylon/spandex.
Features woven-in size markings. Machine washable and Latex-free. One pair per package.
The Posey #6224 Protectors are intended for use in conjunction with facility dermal ulcer
therapy and nursing protocols

FITTINg gUIdeLINeS
Knitted Heel/Elbow Protectors are intended to fit as a comfort product. Actual fit will depend on individual
anthropometric measurements and patient comfort level. These protectors will stretch up to 30%.
mONITORINg
Be sure to follow your facility’s policies and guidelines for frequency of patient monitoring.
Posey recommends that this product be removed at least every two (2) hours to check for skin integrity,
proper circulation and range of motion.
INSPeCTION
Inspect before each use: check for broken stitches; or torn, cut or frayed material. DO NOT use
soiled or damaged products.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. Make sure the skin area to be covered by the Heel and Elbow Protector is free of any open wounds or
pressure ulcers.
2. Select the appropriate size for the patient’s heel or elbow.
3. Slip the Heel and Elbow Protector over the foot or arm and position the internal contoured pad over the
area to be cushioned.
4. The Heel and Elbow Protector should fit snugly on the limb. If it appears to be too tight or loose, choose
the next most appropriate size to ensure patient comfort.
Inspect skin frequently for tears, lacerations, avulsions, abrasions, infections or other damage
and determine appropriate treatment. Change product with new or laundered product in accordance with
facility policy.
To help prevent patient slips or falls, patient should not be allowed to walk when wearing the Posey #6224
and #6224G Protectors on their heels.
LAUNdeRINg INSTRUCTIONS
dISPOSAL
Properly dispose of the product per facility’s policy for BIOHAZARDOUS materials.
STORAge ANd HANdLINg
This device is designed for use in normal indoor environments. This device may be stored in ambient
warehouse temperatures at normal humidity levels. Avoid excess moisture or high humidity that may
damage product materials.
