4. Hardware Installation Procedures
Note
Before you proceed with the installation, it is necessary that you have enough
information about the MAP-3120.
1. Locate an optimum location for the MAP-3120. Plan for the output frequency of
the MAP-3120, 2.4GHz or 5GHz.
2. Assemble the antennas to MAP-3120 follow the frequency band plan. Try to
place them to a position that can best cover your wireless network. The antenna’s position will enhance the receiving sensitivity. When installing antenna(s),
follow these general tips:
For most elevated antenna installations, we recommend you to ask the profes-
l
sional installers for proper installation and safety.
For the safety reasons, you are recommended never to touch a high-gain
l
antenna when it is transmitting or point it at any part of your body.
Please, follow carefully the instructions with your antenna.
l
Keep antennas away from metal objects/obstructions (heating and air-condi-
l
tioning ducts, large ceiling trusses, building superstructures, and major power
cabling runs).
Use a directional antenna when you establish a link between two buildings.
l
A directional antenna must be properly aligned to the point at the other
antenna, line-of-sight.
Locate an omni-directional antenna in the middle of the desired coverage area
l
if possible.
Place the antenna as high as possible to increase the coverage area.
l
Outdoor antennas should be mounted at a sufcient height to prevent the
l
radio path from above the obstructions such as trees and buildings.
Antenna towers should keep a safe distance from overhead power lines. The
l
recommended safe distance is twice the tower height.
3. Using Category 3 or higher UTP or STP cable, connect the LAN port of MAP-3120
to a 10Mbps or 10/100Mbps Ethernet hub or switch, and connect the management station to a hub or switch on the same LAN.
4. Connect the power adapter to the receptor on MAP-3120 and plug the other end
to a wall outlet or power strip.
1. ONLY use the power adapter supplied with the MAP-3120. Otherwise, the product may be damaged.
2. The LAN #1 or Public port of MAP-3120 supports 802.3af POE.
The pins for supplying the electricity are 1, 2, 3, 6. If the MAP3120 is powered from POE, you can skip the step 4.

5. Startup the MAP-3120
To get the initial management of the MAP-3120, please follow the steps.
1. Connect the MAP-3120’s LAN port to an active network.
2. Connect the PC to the network as well. This PC must be congured with a xed
IP in 192.168.0.x/255.255.255.0.
3. Launch web browser and enter MAP-3120 default IP
URL eld. Certicate warning page will display as below.
4. Press “Yes” button to accept the MAP web certicate. Authentication page will
display.
https://192.168.0.1 into
5. Enter default username “admin” and password “admin”, then press “OK”
button.
6. Now, the MAP-3120 is ready for conguration.
6. Network Planning
Note
6.1 Installation topology
The basic Layer 2 MESH Network topology can be planned as following.
Mesh Gateway
Mesh Relay
Mesh Relay
802.11b/g
Mobile User
1. One Layer 2 mesh network can exist ONLY ONE GATEWAY. If
there are two nodes in gateway mode, their backhaul connection
CANNOT be built.
2. The maximum user number of a Layer 2 Mesh network is 250 in
total. For a large scale mesh network with more than 250 users,
please consider to use PLANET MAP-3100 in Layer 3 topology.
1. The Internet connection is required if the mesh network planned to provide the
connectivity for Internet for all the mobile users.
2. RADIUS server is optional server that vary on the installation site.
Ethernet Switch
DHCP Server
Router
[Optional]
RADIUS Server
6.2 Installation consideration
6.2.1 Hardware
Please review the points below for the Hardware install consideration
a. MAP-3120
The MAP-3120 can be congured either a gateway or a relay via web interface.
However, one Layer 2 mesh network allows the presence of ONLY one gateway
node.

b. IEEE802.11a or b/g
Note
Note
In general, it is suggested to x the operating mode to IEEE802.11a as backhaul
connection and IEEE802.11b/g as Access Point connection.
Please refer to your local regulation for the wireless frequency
band. The MAP-3120 support 5GHz and 2.4GHz, in some area,
please follow the local regulation to configure the MAP-3120 to the
correct frequency.
c. Antenna Type
In general, it is suggested to use omni-antenna for both backhaul and local AP.
However, the antenna installation will vary on environment.
Please refer to your local regulation for the wireless output power.
The MAP-3120 support level output power adjustment. In some
areas, please follow the local regulation to configure the output
power together with the antenna.
6.2.2 Software consideration
The MAP-3120 provides the three management interfaces:
Secured Web access
l
Management utility
l
For the rst time management, please follow the steps in section 5 to access the
MAP-3120 through web browser.
The management utility help to central manage the MESH AP network. This utility
can be installed in a Windows PC that be located in the AP services network, for
example, 192.168.0.1/24 network, or can be installed in the Internet. For more
information about Management utility, please also refer to the management utility
guide.
7.FurtherConguration
For advanced settings of MESH AP, please refer to the user’s manual in the CD.
The CD will including:
