Thank you for purchasing this product. This manual explains how to install the printer driver and utilities required for the printer function. To use the printer function, please read the following manuals.

This manual assumes that several options have been installed.

ABOUT THE CD-ROMS

This product comes with two CD-ROMs: the "PRINTER UTILITIES" CD-ROM and the "User Software" CD-ROM. Before using the software on these CD-ROMs, be sure to carefully read the "SOFTWARE LICENSE" on the next page.

1. "PRINTER UTILITIES" CD-ROM

This CD-ROM contains a wizard-type installer for installation of the following utilities, and online manuals.
●●●● PCL5c Printer Driver:
The printer driver that is required for use of this product.
●●●● PCL Display Font:
PCL display fonts are fonts used in the computer screen. PCL display fonts are included that correspond to the resident fonts in the machine.
●●●● Printer Administration Utility:
When using the printer in a network environment, this administration utility makes it possible to configure printer settings and monitor the printer from a computer. (This utility is for use by system administrators.)
●●●● Printer Status Monitor:
When using the printer in a network environment, this provides messages and displays that allow you to monitor the status of the printer.

2. "User Software" CD-ROM

This CD-ROM contains manuals and utilities for using the machine as a network printer.

●●●● Print Server Card Quick Setup:
This is a wizard-type utility for Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP that allows you to conveniently configure the print server. (Recommended for first-time users of a network printer.)
●●●● Print Server Card Standard Setup:
This installs and launches "NICManager", which enables administration and configuration of advanced print server settings.
●●●● SC-Print2000 Install:
This installs software for direct printing from Windows 95/98/Me to the machine. LPR (only for this machine) or IPP can be selected.

PLEASE READ THIS LICENSE CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THE SOFTWARE. BY USING THE SOFTWARE, YOU ARE AGREEING TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS OF THIS LICENSE.
1. License. The application, demonstration, system and other software accompanying this License, whether on
disk, in read only memory, or on any other media (the "Software") and related documentation are licensed to you by SHARP. You own the disk on which the Software is recorded but SHARP and/or SHARP'S Licensors retain title to the Software and related documentation. This License allows you to use the Software on one or more computers connected to a single printer and make one copy of the Software in machine-readable form for backup purposes only. You must reproduce on such copy the SHARP copyright notice, the copyright notice of SHARP'S Licensors and any other proprietary legends of SHARP and/or its Licensors that were on the original copy of the Software. 5. Government End Users. If you are acquiring the Software on behalf of any unit or agency of the United States Government, the following provisions apply. The Government agrees: (i) if the Software is supplied to the Department of Defense (DoD), the Software is classified as "Commercial

SHARP warrants the disks on which the Software is recorded to be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of purchase as evidenced by a copy of the receipt. The entire liability of SHARP and/or its Licensors and your exclusive remedy will be replacement of the disk which fails to meet the limited warranty provided by this Clause 6. A disk will be replaced when it is returned to SHARP or a SHARP authorized representative with a copy of the receipt. SHARP will have no responsibility to replace a disk damaged by accident, abuse or misapplication.

If for any reason a court of competent jurisdiction finds any provision of this License, or portion thereof, to be unenforceable, that provision of the License shall be enforced to the maximum extent permissible so as to effect the intent of the parties, and the remainder of this License shall continue in full force and effect.
10. Complete Agreement. This License constitutes the entire agreement between the parties with respect to the use of the Software and related documentation, and supersedes all prior or contemporaneous understandings or agreements, written or oral, regarding such subject matter. INSTALLING THE PRINTER DRIVER AND UTILITIES (SOFTWARE INSTALLATION)

The procedures for installing the printer driver and utilities (hereafter called "software") required for use of the machine as a printer are explained in this section. There are two ways of installing the printer driver: using the installer in the "PRINTER UTILITIES" CD-ROM, and using the "Add printer wizard". This product does not support printing from a Macintosh environment.

1. Installation using the installer

The software programs installed and the steps for installation vary depending on the version of Windows you are running and the type of connection to your computer. Refer to the table below and select the installation method that matches your environment.

2. Installation of the printer driver using the "Add printer wizard"

Installation of the printer driver using the "Add printer wizard" is performed using basic Windows procedures. To install the printer driver by this method, see page 11. In case of upgrading the version of currently installed printer driver, delete the currently installed printer driver first and then install the new printer driver. To uninstall the printer driver, see page 12.

3. About network environments

There are several types of network environments. Typical environments include the following:
Windows network environment
NetWare network environment
The explanations in this manual assume that your operating system is Windows and that TCP/IP protocol is used in your network environment.

More information on installation

Installation method 1

Use this procedure to install the software in the following environments:
1. Printer connected by LAN cable
2. Windows version: Windows 95/98/Windows Me
Install the software as follows.

Set the IP address of the machine

Before installing the printer driver, set the IP address of the machine using the appropriate key operator program. For this procedure, see "Key Operator Programs" (page 6-6) in the printer operation manual (in PDF format) in the "PRINTER UTILITIES" CD-ROM. The factory default setting for the IP address is "DHCP", which means that the IP address is set automatically. If you are not using the machine in a DHCP environment, ask your network administrator for the IP address, IP net mask, and IP gateway to be used for the machine, and then program this information.

Windows 95/98/Me
To use the machine as a network printer in Windows 95/98/Me, install "SC-Print2000" from the "User Software" CD-ROM. For the procedure for installing "SC-Print2000", see the "Print Server Card Users Manual" in PDF format in the "User Software" CD-ROM.
More information on installation
During the "SC-Print2000" installation, you must enter the IP address, IP net mask, and IP gateway to be used by the machine. Make sure you have this information at hand before you begin installation. In the IP address entry screen, you must also select the internal port name of the Print Server Card. Be sure to select "lp(AR-NC5J)" for this name.

Change the printer port from

Change the printer port as follows.
4-1 Click the [Start] button, select [Settings],
and then click [Printers].
4-2 Right-click the SHARP AR-C260 series
printer driver icon, and select [Properties] from the shortcut menu.
4-3 Click the [Details] tab and then select the
printer port name.
1. Click the IP address of the machine that appears in the printer port box. (Example: 10.36.128.226)
2. Click the "Apply" button.
Depending on your system, you may need to restart your computer after installing the Printer Status Monitor. If a restart message appears, click the [YES] button to restart your computer. When the following window appears after restarting, click the [OK] button.
When your computer starts up

normally after installing the Printer Status Monitor, the Printer Status Monitor icon ( ) will appear in the taskbar.
When the Printer Status Monitor is disabled, the icon is grayed out.
The printer port will change from LPT1 to the network port of the machine.
4-4 Click the [OK] button.
The machine is now connected to your computer on the network.
To automatically configure the

peripheral devices installed on the machine, install the Printer Status Monitor from the "Printer Utilities" CD-ROM. (This can only be used when the machine is used in a network environment.)
To install the Printer Status Monitor, follow steps 3-1 through 3-4 on page 6 and select the Printer Status Monitor checkbox in the package selection screen ("3" on the previous page).

Installation method 2

Use this procedure to install the software in the following environments:
1. Printer connected by LAN cable
2. Windows version: Windows NT 4.0/2000/Windows XP
3. Using the Windows LPR printing function
NOTES
To install the software using the installer, you must have administrator's rights.
In order to print using LPR, LPR port must be added. Go to [Start] - [Settings] - [Control Panel] - [Add /Remove
Programs] - [Add/Remove Windows Components] and open [Windows Components Wizard]. In [Components] select [Other Network File and Print Services], click [Detail], select [Print Services for Unix] and click [OK]. [Windows Component Wizard] will be displayed. After the component is added, click on [Finish]. LPR port is added.
When using Windows NT 4.0, "Microsoft TCP/IP printing" is required to use the machine as a network printer.
Install the software as follows. The following steps use Windows 2000/XP as an example. Install the software in Windows NT 4.0 in the same way.

Set the IP address of the machine

Change the printer port from "LPT1" to the network port of the machine

3-1 Click the [Start] button, select [Settings],
and then click [Printers].
3-2 Right-click the SHARP AR-C260 series
printer driver icon and then select [Properties] from the shortcut menu.
3-3 Click the [Add Port] button in the [Ports]
tab, select "LPR Port", and then click the [New Port] button.
3-4 Enter the IP address in "Name or address
of server providing lpd:" in the "Add LPR compatible printer" screen, enter "lp" in "Name of printer or print queue on that server:", and then click the [OK] button.
3-5 Make sure that a checkmark appears by
the printer port for which you entered the IP address (example: 10.36.128.226) in Step 3-4, and then click the [Apply] button.
The machine is now connected to your computer on the network.
Follow steps 5 to 7 on page 7 to automatically configure the peripheral devices

installed on the machine. (This can only be used when using the machine in a network environment.)

1. The printer is connected by USB cable or parallel cable.

Install the software as follows. Before starting the installation, make sure the USB or parallel interface cable is not connected to the machine.

Click the [start] button, select [My

If the "Found New Hardware Wizard" appears during the software installation, be sure to click the [Cancel] button.

INSTALLING PRINTER DRIVERS USING THE "ADD PRINTER WIZARD"

Before installation

Before installing the printer drivers, check the following items.
Ensure that your computer system meets the following requirements.
Computer type:
IBM PC/AT or compatible computer Hardware requirements of the operating system must be satisfied.
When using the "Add Printer Wizard" to install printer drivers, enter the directory name indicated below as a source directory.
Path for using PCL5c driver in Windows 2000/XP

Path for using PCL5c driver in Windows 95/98/Me

Example of installation of a printer driver using the "Add Printer Wizard" in Windows Me

The method for installing a printer driver using the "Add Printer Wizard" in Windows Me is shown below. The installation example assumes that the printer is connected as a local printer (see "CONNECTING THE MACHINE TO YOUR COMPUTER" on page 12) and that the CD-ROM drive is drive "R". The procedure may differ depending on the system environment.
Start Windows Me.

Insert the supplied CD-ROM into the CD-

ROM drive.
On the [Start] menu, select [Settings] and

then [Printers].
The Printer window will appear.
Double-click the [Add Printer] icon.

Click the [Next] button.

Check the [Local Printer] radio button and

then click the [Next] button.
Click the [Have Disk] button.

The "Install From Disk" dialog box will appear. Enter the file path as follows:
R:\Drivers\Printer\EnglishA\9xme
Click the [OK] button.

Select the printer model to be used and

click the [Next] button.
Follow the instructions displayed by the "Add Printer Wizard".

■■■■ Installing PCL Display Fonts

The PCL display fonts are fonts displayed on your computer screen. The "PRINTER UTILITIES" CD-ROM contains the PCL display fonts that correspond to the resident fonts in the machine. These display fonts can be installed to your computer (Windows 95/98/Me/NT 4.0/2000/XP) from the installer. You can select installation of the PCL fonts as explained in "Installing the software in Windows 95/98/Me" in "Installation method 1" on page 6. When installing the PCL display fonts using the Windows installation procedure instead of the installer ([Start] ­[Settings] - [Control Panel] - [Fonts] - [Install] - [New Font]), specify the following path. R:\Font\PCLFont (Where "R" represents the letter of your CD-ROM driver.)

UNINSTALLING PRINTER DRIVERS AND PRINTER UTILITIES

When uninstalling a printer driver that has been installed from the Add Printer wizard, right-click the printer to be deleted from "Printers" of "Control Panel" and select [Delete]. When uninstalling a printer driver that has been installed using the installer, the Printer Administration Utility or the Printer Status Monitor, use "Add/Remove Programs" of "Control Panel". Use the Windows standard operation for each case.

CONNECTING THE MACHINE TO YOUR COMPUTER

If the machine is going to be used as a network printer, see the operation manual for the Print Server Card. Use a network cable that is shielded.

Please purchase a USB cable (shielded) that complies with the following standard. The USB interface on the machine complies with the USB1.1 standard.

■■■■ Connection with a parallel interface cable

Please purchase a Centronics cable (shielded) that complies with the following standard. The parallel interface on the machine complies with IEEE-STD-1284-1994 ECP.
