4 Organize and Transfer Music
Launch your music software from Windows desktop or
Start menu . Organize your music. Transfer files from
your PC to your pss.
5 Unplug /Eject
Exit your music software .
Disconnect pss safely from your PC by clicking on the
task bar to avoid file er ror .
(WINDOWS 98SE users: there is no icon.
Simply disconnect pss after file tr ansfer completes. )
6 Immerse in your music everywhere you go
Press and hold 2; to switch on pss.
Use scroll controls to bro wse and press 2; to enj oy music!

Detailed info rmation is given in selected music software’ s Help.
Quick start
1 Charge
Open the connections co ver at the back of your pss.
Connect the included multi-vo ltage adaptor / charger into the
pss jack marked 5V DC , and then plug the multi-vo ltage
adaptor / char ger into a standard AC outlet.
Char ge 1 hour for fast charge or 4 hour s for 100% batter y powe r.
(Battery life may vary according to use.)
2 Install music software
Inser t the included CD into your PC's CD-R OM dr iv e.
Follo w screen instr uctions to complete installation.
3 Connect
Connect your pss to your PC using the included USB
cable, w ith pss pow ered by included adapter. The USB
connection screen will automatically appear.
ATTENTION! WINDOWS 98SE USERS:
To avoid installation prob lems, DO NO T CONNECT pss to the PC until AFTER
installation completes.

Q. My pss does not respond.
Should your pss100 "hang" or continues to display the busy icon indefinitel y, use a pencil or
similar object to press the reset pinhole at the back of the set . File contents e.g. your songs
or do wnloaded files on your pss are not affected when resetting in this way.
Q. I can't play my music tracks.
pss can only play MP3 / WMA files transferred using the included software . pss will not be
able to play audio files that are not of these form ats. e.g. AA C encr ypted or WMA songs
bought from the inter net.
Q. pss switches off by itself.
This is a built-in safety measure to protect the unit from overheating, possi bly caused by
ov er use at too high vo lume , incor rect pow er vo ltage. Check vo ltage and use only the
included adapter/char ger. P lay at a sensible vo lume . A llo w pss to cool do wn before using
again. Alter natively, check the shutown menu setting. Change if necessar y.
Q. My pss has short playback time.
Make sure pss batter y is fully char ged when you begin playback. Ov er time, the inter nal
rechar geable batter y will become w eaker. It is replaceable. Please contact your nearest
Philips Ser vice Center for a batter y replacement.
WARNING:
Do not open the set as there is a risk of electr ic shock! Under no circumstances should yo u
tr y to repair the set your self, as this will invalidate the warr anty.

TROUBLESHOOTINGS
Q. Poor fm reception.
Weak signal. Adjust the headphone cable or antenna. Batter y weak. Switch ov er to
AC power.
Q. My pss shows this [file error] icon.
You have a file error : system files may be missing or there is a fo rm at er ror on pss.
To remedy , please connect pss to your PC with the included USB cable and to the
main pow er supply with the included adapter. Star t the included Philips application.
The system files will be recreated automatically.
Q. How do I know which firmware version I have?
On your pss, you can check your firmware version from the menu options.
Scroll for MENU Settings Information to displ ay FW vers:.
Q. How do I know how much free space I have?
On your pss, you can check your pss free space from the menu options.
Scroll for MENU Settings Information to displ ay Free:.
Q.The alarm does not function
Clock date and time incorrect.
Check you have cor rectly set both the clock and alarm settings.
Alar m source/ occur rence not selected.
Check you have activated all the necessar y alarm settings.
Batter y power low. Use the AC adapter/char ger to operate pss.

About oper ating and stor age temper atures
0 Operate pss in a place where the temper ature is always betw een 0 and 35º C
(32 to 95º F).
0 Store pss in a place where the temper ature is always betw een -20 and 45º C
(-4 to 113º F).
0 Batter y life of pss may shor ten in lo w temper ature conditions.
0 Do not expose to excessive heat caused by heating equipment or direct sunlight.
0 When you are using pss, connecting it to your PC or char ging the batter y, it is
normal for pss to become warm.
Av oiding damage or malfunction
0 Backup your files.Please ensure that you retain the or iginal files that you have do wn
loaded to pss. Philips is not responsi ble for any loss of content if the product becomes
damaged or not readable / legible.
0 Manage (tr ansfer, delete , etc.) your files only through included music software
to avoid prob lems!
0 Do not drop pss or allow objects to fall on pss.
0 Do not allow pss to be submer sed in water.Do not expose connection jacks
to water as water enter ing the set may cause major damage.
0 Clean pss with a slightly damp cloth. Don't use any cleaning agents containing
alcohol , ammonia, benzene or abrasives as these may harm the finishing on pss.
0 Acti ve mobile phones in the vicinity may cause interf erence to the device .
SAFETY AND MAINTENANCE
Using the power adapter / char ger
0 Use only the AY3192 pow er adapter that came with pss. Adapter s for other electronic
devices may look similar, but they may damage pss.
0 The only way to shut off pow er completely to your pow er adapter/char ger is to
disconnect it from the pow er source .
0 Alwa ys leave space around your pow er adapter. Do not use this equipment in a location
where airflow around the pow er adapter is confined, such as a bookcase .
0 When connecting or disconnecting your pow er adapter, always hold the pow er adapter
by its sides. Keep finger s away from the metal part of the plug.
0 The pow er adapter for pss is a high-v oltage component and should not be opened for
any reason, even when pss is off.
Using your headphones
0 Hearing safety
Listen at a moder ate vo lume . Using headphones at high vo lume can impair your hear ing.
0 Traffic safety
Do not use while dr iving or cycling as you may cause an accident.
0 Optimizing playback performance
We recommend to only use PHILIPS headphones for pss. Music vo lume and / or qualit y
is not guaranteed for other non-PHILIPS headphones.
