Introduction
The Philips Self-Adhesive Electrodes are available without prescription.
To get the best possible results, we advise you to follow the instructions.
If you have questions or need extra information, go to www.philips.com/

Intended use
The Philips Self-Adhesive Electrodes are intended for applying
Transcutaneous Electrical Ner ve Stimulation (TENS) and Electrical Muscle
Stimulation (EMS).
Risks
- You may get skin irritation and burns under the electrodes applied to
your skin.
- You may get a headache or other pain if you apply the electrodes near
your eye, or on your head or face.
Stop using the electrodes and consult your physician if you experience
adverse reactions from using the electrodes.
To ensure safe usage, follow the instructions in this user manual.
Important safeguards
For all relevant hazards, contraindications, warnings, precautions, adverse
side effects, and troubleshooting, please refer to the PulseRelief user manual
Warnings
- Do not apply the electrodes to your neck. This could cause severe
muscle spasms that may result in closure of your airway, breathing
difculties, or adverse effects on heart rhythm or blood pressure.
- Do not apply the electrodes across your chest. Use of the electrodes
with the device introduces electrical current. Using the electrodes and
the device in your chest may cause rhythm disturbances to your heart,
which could be lethal.
- Apply the electrodes only to normal, intact, clean, and healthy skin.
, Do not apply electrodes over open wounds or rashes, and over
swollen, red, infected, or inamed areas or skin eruptions
(e.g., phlebitis, thrombophlebitis, varicose veins).
- Do not apply electrodes over, or close to, cancerous lesions.
- Do not place the electrodes simultaneously on both legs, both arms,
or on the soles of both feet. This may have adverse effects on your
heart rhythm.
- Do not share electrodes with other persons because of the risks of
adverse skin reactions and disease transmission.
- Do not place the electrodes and the device on your skin while the
device is charging.
- Do not use the electrodes and the device while driving, operating
machinery, or during any activity in which electrical stimulation can put
you at risk of injury.
- Do not modify the electrodes. This could cause improper functioning.
- The size, shape, and type of electrodes may affect the safety and
effectiveness of electrical stimulation.
- The electrical performance characteristics of electrodes may affect the
safety and effectiveness of electrical stimulation.
- Do not use electrodes that are too small or incorrectly applied.
This may result in discomfort or skin burn.
- These electrodes can only be used with Philips PulseRelief PR3840.
Precautions
- The long-term effects of cutaneous electrodes for electrical stimulation
are unknown.
- Because the effects of stimulation on the brain are unknown, do not use
the device on opposite sides of your head.
- Electrical stimulation or the electrical conductive gel on the electrodes
may cause skin irritation or hypersensitivity.
- Use caution when you apply the electrodes to areas of skin that lack
normal sensation.
- Keep the electrodes out of the reach of children.
- Do not use electrodes if they are damaged. Always check the electrodes
for damage before use.
- Replace the self-adhesive electrodes if they no longer stick rmly to
your skin.
- Do not use plaster or tape to attach the electrodes to the skin.
- Make sure that the electrodes do not touch metal objects, such as belt
buckles or necklaces.
- Do not place the electrodes on top of each other, or so close to each
other that they touch each other.
General recommendations
- Do not use the electrodes for any other purpose than what they are
intended for.
- The electrodes are designed for use by and on a single adult person.
- The electrodes have a limited shelf life. Please check the packaging for
the use-by date before use. Do not use electrodes whose use-by date
has expired.
- Do not store the electrodes at temperatures lower than 41°F (+5°C)
or higher than 80.6°F (+27°C).
- Always use and store the electrodes according to the instructions.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
Using the electrodes
Only use the electrodes for their intended use as described in this user
manual. Make sure that you follow the steps in the order described in this
chapter.
1 Clean the skin with a moist cloth and dry it thoroughly. The skin you
want to place the electrodes on must be dry, clean and free from
cream or lotion (Fig. 1).
Note: Dirt, grease or particles left on the skin may lodge themselves in the
hydrogel of the electrodes. This has an adverse effect on the adhesive power of
the electrodes.
2 Take the electrodes from the plastic bag and check them for damage
and signs of wear (Fig. 2).
Caution: Do not use electrodes whose use-by date has expired.
The use-by date is shown on the resealable plastic bag.
Note: Replace the electrodes when they are damaged or dirty, when they have
lost their adhesive power or when stimulation becomes uncomfortable, i.e. when
you experience an unpleasant stinging or biting sensation.
3 Pull the electrode off the liner and place it on the skin at the place
you want to treat. See section ‘Electrode placement’ (Fig. 3).
4 Place the second electrode on the body part you want to treat
(Fig. 4).
Note: Always place the electrodes on the skin before you connect the device.
Note: Do not place the electrodes on top of each other or so close to each
other that they touch each other.
5 Attach the device to the electrodes. The device units have magnets in
the center to ensure easy connection to the metal connectors of the
electrodes. When the device units lock onto the electrodes properly,
you hear a click (Fig. 5).
Note: You can wear the electrodes with the device units attached to them under
your clothes, also during treatment.
6 Consult the electrode placement guide for the recommended
position for the electrodes during treatment. This is only a
recommendation. You can perform all activities allowed as intended
use and not warned against in chapter ‘Important safeguards’ when
you wear the device on your body. You can also continue to wear the
device on your body in between treatments (Fig. 6).
7 Detach the device from the electrodes by pulling it off (Fig. 7).
8 Peel the electrodes off the skin by pulling at the edge (Fig. 8).
Note: You can continue to use the electrodes at the same spot if treatment is
still effective. If it is no longer effective, move the electrodes to a different spot.
You also have to move the electrodes to a different spot if the skin under the
electrodes becomes irritated.
9 Place the electrodes back on the liner (Fig. 9).
10 Slide the liner with the electrodes back into the bag (Fig. 10).
11 Reseal the bag for dust-free storage (Fig. 11).
Cleaning the electrodes after use
Do not immerse the electrodes in water.
1 If the electrodes are dirty, put a drop of water on your nger and
gently rub the dirt off the surface.
Note: Do not use soap or alcohol to clean the electrodes.

Replacement
Electrodes
Replace the electrodes if:
- they are damaged or torn.
- they are past the use-by date indicated on the resealable bag.
- they have lost their adhesive power. Never use plaster or tape to attach
them to your skin.
- stimulation feels less strong.
- when stimulation is uncomfortable, i.e. when you experience an
unpleasant stinging or biting sensation.
Note: Always replace the electrodes with Philips Self-Adhesive Electrodes
specially designed for the Philips PulseRelief device.

Explanation of symbols on electrode bag
The symbols on the electrode bag mean the following.
- Do not use the device while driving, operating machines, or performing
other activities that may present a risk of injury. (Fig. 12)
- Do not use damaged or worn electrodes or electrodes that have lost
their adhesive power (Fig. 13).
- The electrodes may only be used by one person. Do not share them
with another person (Fig. 14).
- Do not place the electrodes on top of each other, or so close to each
other that they touch each other (Fig. 15).
- Do not place electrodes on your head or on your neck (Fig. 16).
- Do not place the electrodes on your chest (Fig. 17).
- Use the device only on normal, intact, clean, and healthy skin. Do
not use the device over open wounds or rashes, and over swollen,
red, infected, or inamed areas or skin eruptions (e.g., phlebitis,
thrombophlebitis, varicose veins) (Fig. 18).
- This symbol indicates the minimum and maximum storage temperatures
that apply if electrodes are stored for more than one month (Fig. 19).
- This symbol tells users to read the user manual before they start using
the device (Fig. 20).
- This is the recycling symbol for low-density polyethylene (LDPE).
LDPE is a thermoplastic that is widely used for containers and plastic
bags (Fig. 21).
- The Green Dot (‘Der Grüne Punkt’ in German) is the license symbol
of a European network of industry-funded systems for recycling the
packaging materials of consumer goods. (Fig. 22)
- This symbol means that the device conforms to EC Directives. 0344 is
the number of the notied body (Fig. 23).
- This symbol indicates the manufacturer’s batch code so that the batch
or lot can be identied (Fig. 24).
- This symbol indicates the expiry date. This is the date after which the
electrodes must not be used anymore (Fig. 25).

경고

전극 사용
이 사용 설명서에 나온 본래 용도로만 전극을 사용하십시오.
이 장에 설명된 순서대로 단계를 따르십시오.
1 젖은 천으로 피부를 닦은 후 물기를 완전히 닦아내십시오.
전극이 닿는 피부는 건조하고 청결하며 크림이나 로션 등을
바르지 않은 상태여야 합니다 (그림 1).
참고: 피부에 먼지나 기름기, 작은 입자 등이 남아 있으면 이러한
이물질이 전극의 히드로겔에 부착될 수 있습니다. 이 경우 전극의
접착력이 저하됩니다.
2 비닐백에서 전극을 꺼낸 다음 전극에 손상이나 닳은 흔적이
없는지 확인합니다 (그림 2).

주의: 유통 기한이 지난 전극은 사용하지 마십시오. 유통 기한은
개폐가 가능한 비닐 백에 표시되어 있습니다.
참고: 전극이 손상되거나 오염된 경우, 접착력이 없어졌거나
자극이 불편하게 느껴지는 경우, 즉 불쾌한 따끔거림이나 얼얼한
느낌이 있는 경우에는 전극을 교체하십시오.
3 라이너에서 전극을 떼어낸 후 해당 신체 부위에 붙입니다.
‘전극 위치’ 장을 참조하시기 바랍니다 (그림 3).
4 해당 신체 부위에 두 번째 전극을 붙입니다 (그림 4).
참고: 항상 전극은 기기를 연결하기 전에 피부에 붙여놓으십시오.
참고: 전극끼리 닿지 않도록 여러 개의 전극을 포개거나 가까이
두지 마십시오.
5 기기를 전극에 부착하십시오. 기기 유닛은 가운데에 자석이
있어 전극의 금속 커넥터에 쉽게 연결할 수 있습니다. 기기
유닛이 전극에 제대로 부착되면 딸깍하는 소리가 들립니다
(그림 5).
참고: 전극과 전극이 부착된 기기를 착용하고 그 위에 옷을 입어도
됩니다. 사용 중에도 가능합니다.
6 전극 위치 가이드를 참조하여 사용 중 권장 전극 위치를
확인하시기 바랍니다. 여기에 안내된 위치는 권장 사항일
뿐입니다. 장비 착용 시 사용 목적에 따라 허용되고 ‘중요
안전 지침’ 장에서 경고하는 내용에 속하지 않는 모든 활동을
병행할 수 있습니다. 또한 사용 후 쉬었다가 재사용하는
중간에도 기기를 계속 착용할 수 있습니다 (그림 6).
7 전극을 당겨 기기에서 분리하십시오 (그림 7).
8 끝을 잡고 당겨 피부에서 전극을 떼어내십시오 (그림 8).
참고: 사용 효과가 계속 있다면 전극을 같은 위치에 두고 재사용할
수 있습니다. 사용 효과가 더 이상 없는 경우 전극을 다른 위치로
옮겨서 사용하십시오. 전극 아래의 피부에 자극이 일어나는
경우에도 전극을 다른 위치로 옮겨야 합니다.
9 전극을 라이너에 다시 붙입니다 (그림 9).
10 전극을 붙인 라이너를 비닐백 안으로 다시 집어 넣습니다
(그림 10).
11 먼지가 들어가지 않도록 비닐백을 봉합니다 (그림 11).
사용 후 전극 청소
전극을 물에 담그지 마십시오.
1 전극이 더러워진 경우 손가락에 물을 약간 묻혀 부드럽게
문질러 표면의 오염 물질을 닦아내십시오.
참고: 비누나 알코올을 사용하여 전극을 닦지 마십시오.
전극 비닐백의 기호 설명
전극 비닐백에 있는 기호의 의미는 다음과 같습니다.
- 부상의 위험이 있으므로 운전, 기계 작동 및 기타 활동 중에 이
기기를 사용해선 안됩니다. (그림 12)
- 손상되거나 닳은 전극, 또는 접착력을 상실한 전극을 사용해선
안됩니다 (그림 13).
- 전극은 한 사람만 사용해야 하며 다른 사람과 공유해선
안됩니다 (그림 14).
- 전극끼리 닿지 않도록 여러 개의 전극을 포개거나 가까이 두지
마십시오 (그림 15).
- 전극을 머리 또는 목 부위에 사용해선 안됩니다 (그림 16).
- 전극을 가슴 부위에 사용해선 안됩니다 (그림 17).
- 정상이며 손상되지 않고 깨끗하며 건강한 피부에만 기기를
사용하십시오. 아물지 않은 상처나 발진, 뾰루지가 있거나
홍조, 감염 또는 염증이 있는 부위, 또는 피부 발진(정맥염,
혈전 정맥염, 정맥류 등)이 있는 부위에는 전극을 사용하지
마십시오 (그림 18).

교체
전극
다음과 같은 경우 전극을 교체하십시오.
- 전극이 손상되었거나 찢어진 경우
- 개폐식 비닐백에 표시된 유통 기한 날짜가 지난 경우
- 접착력이 상실된 경우. 절대 반창고나 테이프를 사용하여
피부에 부착하면 안 됩니다.
- 자극이 약해졌다고 느껴지는 경우
- 자극이 불편하게 느껴지는 경우. 즉, 자극 부위가 따끔거리거나
얼얼하게 느껴지면 교체하십시오.
참고: 전극은 항상 필립스 펄스릴리프 기기용으로 특수하게 설계된
필립스 접착식 전극으로 교체하십시오.
