SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
The Waffle Maker has a short cord to reduce the hazards of becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. An extension cord may be used if the rating is equal to or greater than the rating of the Waffle Maker. Use an extension cord rated 13 amperes or greater. Care must be taken to arrange extension cord so that it will not drape over countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally.
IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed including the following:
Read all instructions before using.
1. Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
2. To protect against electrical shock, do not immerse cord, plug, or Waffle Maker in water or other liquid.
3. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
4. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning.Allow to cool completely before putting on or taking off parts and before cleaning appliance.
5. Do not operate this appliance with a damaged cord or plug, if it is not working properly, if it has been dropped or damaged, or dropped into water. Return the Waffle Maker to the retail location where it was purchased for examination, repair, or adjustment.
6. To avoid the risk of electrical shock, do not disassemble. Incorrect reassembly can cause a risk of electrical shock when Waffle Maker is used.
7. Use this appliance only for its intended use as described in this manual. Do not use accessories or attachments not recommended by Philips Electronics North America Corporation as they may cause fire, electric shock or injury.
8. Do not use outdoors or operate where oxygen is being administered or in the presence of explosive and/or flammable fumes.
9. Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces. Let the Waffle Maker cool completely before moving it on or off the counter, before cleaning or before putting away.

Operating the Waffle Maker and another appliance at the same time from the same electrical circuit could cause an electrical overload condition, which would blow the fuse or trip the circuit breaker.

Before First Use
Before using for the first time, the baking surfaces should be cleaned with a moist cloth. DO NOT IMMERSE UNIT IN WATER. We recommend lightly greasing the baking surfaces when using for the first time.This will not be necessary on subsequent occasions. The first set of waffles should not be eaten.
Helpful Hints
1 Always preheat the Waffle Maker before baking. Plug the
Waffle Maker in first, and prepare the batter while the Waffle Maker is heating.
2 If you wish to have lighter toasted waffles, remove them before
the green ready indicator light goes off (after approximately 4 minutes). Or if you prefer darker toasted waffles, leave them in a little longer time.
3 If the lid resists lifting, allow the waffles to bake a little longer,
then try lifting the lid again.
4 If the waffles stick to the top cooking plates, remove them
using a plastic or wooden spatula only. Do not use sharp or metal utensils as they may damage non-stick coating.
5 Let waffles cool slightly before eating to avoid possible burns.
6 Top baked waffles with different fruits or ice cream to create
your own specialties.
OHow to Make Waffles
1 Plug cord into 120V AC electrical outlet.The red power
light comes on.
2 Close the Waffle Maker and prepare batter while the Waffle
Maker is heating.
3 The green indicator light will come on when Waffle Maker
reaches proper temperature (after about 5 minutes).The Waffle Maker is ready for baking. CAUTION: Touch unit only by the latch or handles during use or directly after using. Be careful not to touch hot surfaces.

4 Open the appliance and pour waffle batter onto the center of
each section of the lower baking plate, being careful not to overfill. Close the appliance carefully and lock the two handles with the latch. Do not force shut. Steam may be ejected from between the grids.The green indicator light may cycle on and off during cooking as the thermostat maintains the unit at the proper cooking temperature.

NOTE:
• Care must be taken to ensure that fingers do not come into contact with the baking grids.
• Bake only with top cover closed.
5 Your waffle will be baked in approximately 4 minutes or longer
according to your personal taste. When baking is finished, open the Waffle Maker and remove the waffles using a plastic or wooden spatula. Never use a metal knife as this may damage the non-stick coating.
6 The appliance should be kept closed in-between the baking of
successive waffles to maintain optimum temperature.
7 After use, allow green indicator light to go off and then unplug
cord from electrical outlet.

Cleaning
• Unplug cord from electrical outlet before cleaning and allow the
appliance to cool completely before cleaning or storing.
• Never dip the appliance into water or hold it under running water.
• Wipe down the unit with a moist cloth only.
• Clean the baking surfaces after they have cooled completely with
a moist cloth or with a very soft cloth. Wipe dr y before storing.
• To remove baked-on batter, use a nylon pad or non-abrasive
cleanser.
• Never use sharp or pointed objects or any abrasive cleaning agents
for cleaning purposes as they will damage non-stick coating.
Never immerse the appliance in water or other liquid.
• Store appliance in closed position. Unit stands on end for convenient
storage. Loop cord around cord wrap on the bottom of the unit.

NOTE:
• In order to achieve even results, all ingredients should be at room temperature before preparing the batter.
• Pour about 2/3 cup of waffle batter onto center of bottom hot grids.
Breakfast Waffles
3 egg yolks a bare 1-1/2 cup (3/8 liter) milk 1 cup (250 grams) flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 3 teaspoons sugar 1/2 teaspoon salt 8 tablespoons oil 3 egg whites
Mix egg yolks and milk.Add flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and mix well.Add the oil. Beat egg whites until stiff and then fold into the batter.
Buttermilk Waffles
1/2 cup (1 stick) (125 grams ) softened butter 1/4 cup (50 grams ) sugar 1/8 teaspoon vanilla sugar pinch of salt 4 eggs 1 cup (250 grams ) flour 1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup (1/4 liter ) buttermilk
Cream the soft butter, sugar,vanilla sugar and salt. Mix in the eggs one by one. Mix flour and baking powder and add these together with the buttermilk to the other ingredients. Mix thoroughly to an even batter.
Sponge Waffles
5 egg yolks 5 tablespoons hot water 1/3 cup (100 grams ) sugar grated rind of one lemon 2/3 cup (150 grams ) flour 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 5 egg whites
Cream the egg yolks, water,sugar and lemon rind. Mix the flour and baking powder together and stir them into the other ingredients. Beat the egg whites until stiff and fold into the batter.

Vanilla Waffles
1 3/4 sticks (14T) (200 grams ) softened butter 1/4 cup (50 grams ) sugar 1/8 teaspoon vanilla pinch of salt 6 eggs 1-1/4 cup (300 grams ) flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 cup (1/4 liter ) milk 1 tablespoon rum
Cream the butter, sugar,vanilla and salt. Mix the flour and baking powder and add these together with the milk and eggs bit by bit, stirring continuously. Finally stir in the rum.
Cheese Waffles
6 tablespoons (100 grams ) butter 8 egg yolks 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 cups (500 grams ) flour 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 cup (50 grams ) grated Parmesan cheese 8 egg whites
Cream the butter. Mix the flour and baking powder. Add one after another: the egg yolks, salt,flour and cheese. Then fold in the stiffly­beaten egg whites.
Traditional Waffles
2 eggs 2 cups all-purpose flour 1/2 cup vegetable oil or 1/2 cup (1 stick) margarine or butter, melted 1-3/4 cups milk 1 tablespoon granulated or brown sugar 4 teaspoons baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt
Beat eggs with wire whisk or hand beater in medium bowl until fluffy. Beat in remaining ingredients just until smooth.
