Important notes for users in the U.K.
Mains plug
This apparatus is fitted with an approved moulded 13
Amp plug. To change a fuse in this type of plug
proceed as follows:
• Remove fuse cover and fuse.
• Fix new fuse which should be a BS1362 5 Amp,
A.S.T.A. or BSI approved type.
• Refit the fuse cover.
If the fitted plug is not suitable for your socket
outlets, it should be cut off and an appropriate plug
fitted in its place.
If the mains plug contains a fuse, this should have a
value of 5 Amp. If a plug without a fuse is used, the
fuse at the distribution board should not be greater
than 5 Amp.
Note: The severed plug must be disposed to avoid a
possible shock hazard should it be inserted into a
13 Amp socket elsewhere.
How to connect a plug
The wires in the mains lead are coloured with the
following code: blue = neutral (N), brown = live (L).
As these colours may not correspond with the colour
markings identifying the terminals in your plug,
proceed as follows:
• Connect the blue wire to the terminal marked N or
coloured black.
• Connect the brown wire to the terminal marked L
or coloured red.
• Do not connect either wire to the earth terminal in
the plug, marked E (or e) or coloured green (or
green and yellow).
Before replacing the plug cover, make certain that the
cord grip is clamped over the sheath of the lead - not

Environmental information
All unnecessary packaging material has been omitted. We have done our utmost to make the
packaging easy to separate into three mono-materials: cardboard (box), expandable polystyrene
(buffer), polyethylene (bags, protective foam).
Your set consists of materials which can be recycled if disassembled by a specialized
company. Please observe the local regulations regarding the disposal of packing
materials, exhausted batteries and old equipment.
POWER SUPPLY

Whenever convenient, use the power supply if you want to
conserve battery life. Make sure you remove the plug from the
set and wall socket before inserting batteries.
BATTERIES (OPTIONAL)
1. Open the battery compartment and insert six batteries, type
R-20, UM-4 or D-cells, (preferably alkaline) with the correct
polarity as indicated by the "+" and "-" symbols inside the
compartment.
2. Replace the compartment door, making sure the batteries are
firmly and correctly in place. The set is now ready to operate.
– If BATT LOW lights up, battery power is running low.
– The BATT LOW indicator eventually goes out if the
batteries are too weak.
– Incorrect use of batteries can cause electrolyte leakage and
will corrode the compartment or cause the batteries to burst.
Therefore:
– Do not mix battery types, e.g. alkaline with carbon zinc.
Only use batteries of the same type for the set.
– When inserting new batteries, do not try to mix old
batteries with the new ones.
– Remove the batteries if the set is not to be used for a long
time.
– Batteries contain chemical substances, so they
should be disposed of properly.
For users in the U.K.: please follow the instructions on page 2.
USING AC POWER
1. Check if the mains voltage as shown on the type plate
located on the bottom of the set, corresponds to your local
power supply. If it does not, consult your dealer or service
centre.
2. If your set is equipped with a voltage selector, adjust the
selector so that it matches with the local mains.
3. Connect the mains lead to the wall socket and the set is now
ready for use.
4. To disconnect the set from the mains completely, remove the
plug from the wall socket.

SWITCHING ON AND OFF
• Adjust the POWER slider to the desired sound source: CD,
TUNER or TAPE.
• The set is switched off when the POWER slider is in the
TAPE/OFFposition and the keys on the tape deck are released.
– The volume, sound settings and tuner presets will be retained
in the set's memory.
ADJUSTING VOLUME AND SOUND
1. Turn the VOLUME/ SOUND CONTROL CENTER control
clockwise to increase or anti-clockwise to decrease volume on
the set.
™ Display shows the volume level indication, VOL and a number
from 0-32.
2. To adjust the bass, mid and high frequency levels, press
DIGITAL EQUALIZERonce or more until the desired option is
displayed. While the option is shown, turn the VOLUME/
SOUND CONTROL CENTER control to increase or decrease
(- 5 to + 5 steps maximum) the desired tone.
™ VOLUME can also be adjusted in this way with a level range
from 0-32.
3. Press DIGITAL DBBto switch dynamic bass boost on or off.
™ If on, the DIGITAL DBB light goes on.
4. Press INCREDIBLE SURROUND to switch the surround sound
effect on or off.
™ If on, the INCREDIBLE SURROUND light goes on.
Note: The effect of INCREDIBLE SURROUND may vary with
different types of music.
TUNING TO RADIO STATIONS
1. Select TUNER source.
2. Press BAND once or more to select your waveband.
3. To tune to a radio station, use the TUNING knob.
To improve radio reception:
• For FM, pull out the telescopic aerial.
Incline and turn the aerial. Reduce its length if the signal is too
strong (very close to a transmitter).
• For MW and LW, the set is provided with a built-in aerial so the
telescopic aerial is not needed. Direct the aerial by turning the
whole set.

Playing a CD
1. Select CD source.
2. Press OPEN•CLOSE to open the CD door.
™ Display: when you open the CD door.
3. Insert a CD or CD-R(W) with the printed side facing up and
press OPEN•CLOSE to close the CD door.
™ Display: as the CD player scans the contents of a CD.
The total number of tracks and playing time are then shown.
™ Display: is shown if the CD R(W) is not finalised.
4. Press PLAY•PAUSE 2; to start playback.
™ Display: Current track number and elapsed playing time of the
track during CD playback.
5. To pause press PLAY•PAUSE 2;. Press PLAY•PAUSE2;
again to resume play.
™ The display freezes and the elapsed playing time flashes when
playback is paused.
6. To stop CD playback, press STOP 9.
Note: CD playback will also stop when:
– the CD door is opened;
– the CD has reached the end (unless you have selected
REPEAT ALL);
– you select another source: TAPE / TUNER.
Selecting a different track
• Press SEARCH ∞ or § once or repeatedly until the desired
track number appears in the display.
• If you have selected a track number shortly after loading a CD
or in the PAUSE position, you will need to press
PLAY•PAUSE 2; to start playback.
Finding a passage within a track
1. Press and hold down on SEARCH ∞ or §.
– The CD is played at high speed and low volume.
2. When you recognize the passage you want,
release SEARCH ∞ or §.
– Normal playback continues.
Note: During a CD programme or if SHUFFLE/ REPEAT active,
searching is only possible within a track.

Different play modes: SHUFFLE and REPEAT
You can select and change the various play modes before or during
playback. The play modes can also be combined with PROGRAM.
SHUFFLE - tracks of the entire CD/ programme are played in
random order
SHUFFLE and REPEAT ALL- to repeat the entire CD/ programme
continuously in random order
REPEAT ALL- to repeat the entire CD/ programme
REPEATand SHUFFLE REPEAT - plays the current (random) track
continuously
1. To select your play mode, press the SHUFFLE or REPEAT
button before or during playback until the display shows the
desired function.
2. Press PLAY•PAUSE 2; to start playback if in the STOP
position.
• Playback starts immediately if you have selected a SHUFFLE
mode.
3. To return to normal playback, press the respective SHUFFLE or
REPEATbutton until the various SHUFFLE / REPEAT modes are
no longer displayed.
– You can also press STOP 9 to cancel your play mode.
Programming track numbers
Programme in the STOP position to select and store your CD tracks
in the desired sequence. If you like, store any track more than once.
Up to 20 tracks can be stored in the memory.
1. Press SEARCH ∞ or § once or more to select your desired
track number.
2. Press PROG.
™ Display:
PROG and the selected track number.
appears briefly.
™ If you attempt to programme without first selecting a track
number, is shown.
3. Press PROG to confirm the track number to be stored.
4. Repeat steps 1-2 to select and store all desired tracks.
™ is displayed if you attempt to programme more than
20 tracks.
5. To start playback of your CD programme,
press PLAY•PAUSE 2;.
Note: if you have selected the tracks during CD playback, first
press STOP 9 then PLAY•PAUSE2;.

Reviewing the programme
In the stop position or during playback, press and hold down
PROG for a while until the display shows all your stored track
numbers in sequence.
Erasing a programme
You can erase the programme by:
– pressing STOP 9 once in the STOP position;
– pressing STOP 9 twice during playback.
• The display shows briefly and
PROG disappears.
The programme is also erased by:
– pressing the CD door open;
– selecting another source: TAPE/ TUNER.
CASSETTE PLAYBACK
1. Select TAPE source.
™ The display shows
TAPE throughout tape operation.
2. Press OPEN•STOP /9 to open the cassette door.
3. Insert a recorded cassette and close the cassette door.
4. Press PLAY 1 to start playback.
5. To interrupt playback press PAUSE;. To resume, press this
key again.
6. By pressing SEARCH 5 or 6 on the set fast winding of the
tape is possible in both directions.
7. To stop the tape, press OPEN•STOP /9.
• The keys are automatically released at the end of the tape,
except if PAUSE ; has been activated.
Note: The sound source cannot be changed while playing a
cassette.

GENERAL INFORMATION ON RECORDING
• Recording is permissible insofar as copyright or other rights of
third parties are not infringed.
• This deck is not suited for recording on CHROME (IEC II) or
METAL (IEC IV) type cassettes. For recording, use only
NORMAL type cassettes (IEC I) on which the tabs have not
been broken.
• The best recording level is set automatically. Altering the
VOLUME, INCREDIBLE SURROUND, DIGITAL EQUALIZER or DBB
controls will not affect the recording in progress.
• At the very beginning and end of the tape, no recording will
take place during the 7 seconds, when the leader tape passes
the recorder heads.
• To protect a tape from accidental erasure, have the tape in
front of you and break out the left tab.
Recording on this side is no longer possible. To record over this
side again, cover the tabs with a piece of adhesive tape.
Synchro Start CD recording
1. Select CD source.
2. Insert a CD and if desired, programme track numbers.
3. Press OPEN•STOP /9 to open the cassette door.
4. Insert a suitable tape into the cassette deck and close the
cassette door.
5. Press RECORD 0 to start recording.
– Playing of the CD programme starts automatically from the
beginning of the programme. It is not necessary to start the CD
player separately.
To select and record a particular passage within a track:
• Press and hold down on SEARCH ∞ or §.
• When you recognize the passage you want, release SEARCH
∞ or §.
• To interrupt CD playback press PLAY•PAUSE 2;.
• Recording will begin from this exact point in the track when
you press RECORD 0.
6. For brief interruptions during recording, press PAUSE;. To
resume recording, press PAUSE ; again.
7. To stop recording, press OPEN•STOP /9.

Recording from the tuner
1. Tune to the desired radio station (see Tuning to radio stations).
2. Press OPEN•STOP /9 to open the cassette door.
3. Insert a suitable tape into the cassette deck and close the
cassette door.
4. Press RECORD 0 to start recording.

General maintenance
• Do not expose the set, batteries, CDs or cassettes to humidity,
rain, sand or excessive heat caused by heating equipment or
direct sunlight.
• To clean the set, use a soft, slightly dampened chamois leather.
Do not use any cleaning agents containing alcohol, ammonia,
benzene or abrasives as these may harm the housing.
Safety information
• Place the set on a hard and flat surface so that the system
does not tilt. Make sure there is adequate ventilation to
prevent the system from overheating.
• The mechanical parts of the set contain self-lubricating
bearings and must not be oiled or lubricated.

CD player and CD handling
• If the CD player cannot read CDs correctly, use a commonly
available cleaning CD to clean the lens before taking the set to
repair. Other cleaning methods may destroy the lens.
• The lens of the CD player should never be touched!
• Sudden changes in the surrounding temperature can cause
condensation to cloud over on the lens of your CD player.
Playing a CD is then not possible. Do not attempt to clean the
lens but leave the set in a warm environment until the
moisture evaporates.
• Always keep the CD compartment closed to avoid dust on the
lens.
• To take a CD out of its box, press the centre spindle while
lifting the CD. Always pick up the CD by the edge and return
the CD to its box after use to avoid scratching and dust.
• To clean the CD, wipe in a straight line from the centre
towards the edge using a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use
cleaning agents as they may damage the disc.
• Never write on a CD or attach any stickers to it.
Tape deck maintenance
To ensure quality recording and playback of the tape deck, clean
parts A, B and C shown in the diagram below, after approx.
50 hours of operation, or on average once a month. Use a cotton
bud slightly moistened with alcohol or a special head cleaning
fluid to clean both decks.
1. Open the cassette holder by pressing OPEN•STOP /9.
2. Press PLAY 1 and clean the rubber pressure rollers C.
3. Press PAUSE ; and clean the magnetic headsA and also the
capstan B.
4. After cleaning, press OPEN•STOP /9.
Note: Cleaning of the heads can also be done by playing a
cleaning cassette through once.

If a fault occurs, first check the points listed below before taking the set for repair.
If you are unable to remedy a problem by following these hints, consult your dealer or service centre.
WARNING: Do not open the set as there is a risk of electric shock. Under no
circumstances should you try to repair the set yourself, as this will
invalidate the guarantee.

Informations sur l’environnement
Tous les matériaux d'emballage inutiles ont été évités. Nous avons fait le maximum pour autoriser
la séparation des matériaux d’emballage en trois catégories: le carton (boîte), le polystyrène
expansé (tampon) et le polyéthylène (sachets, mousse de protection).
Votre équipement est constitué de matériaux recyclables, à condition d’être démonté par
une firme spécialisée. Veuillez observer les règles locales en vigueur pour le rebut des
matériaux d’emballage, les piles usées et les anciens équipements.

ALIMENTATION

Pour allonger la vie des piles, vous pouvez toujours alimenter
l'équipement par le secteur. Assurez-vous d'ôter la fiche de
l'équipement et la prise secteur avant de remettre les piles.
PILES (EN OPTION)
1. Ouvrez le compartiment et introduisez six piles, type R-20,
UM-4 ou cellules D, (de préférence Alcaline) en veillant à ce
que les piles soient correctement introduites au niveau de la
polarité, comme indiqué par les symboles "+" et "-".
2. Refermez le compartiment de piles, après s'être assuré que les
piles soient fermement et correctement en place. L'équipement
est prêt à l'emploi.
– Si BATT LOW s'allume, la capacité des piles est faible.
– L'indicateur BATT LOW s'éteint si les piles sont trop
faibles.
– L'usage incorrect des piles peut causer des fuites
électrolytiques endommageant le compartiment par corrosion,
voire faire éclater les piles. A cet effet:
– Ne pas utiliser différents types de piles, par ex. Alcaline
avec zinc de carbone. Utilisez uniquement des piles du
même type pour le même équipement.
– Lorsque vous introduisez de nouvelles piles, ne mettez pas
des anciennes piles avec des nouvelles.
– Enlevez les piles si l'équipement n'est pas utilisé pendant
une période prolongée.
– Les piles contiennent des substances chimiques et
doivent par conséquent être rejetees dans les
endroits appropriés.
UTILISATION DE L'ALIMENTATION
1.
Contrôlez si la tension secteur indiquée sur la plaquette
signalétique à la base de l'équipement correspond à la
tension secteur locale. Si ce n'est pas le cas, consultez votre
concessionnaire ou le service après-vente.
2. Si votre équipement est pourvu d'un sélecteur de tension,
réglez-le en conformité avec le secteur local.
3. Branchez le cordon secteur à la prise murale et l'équipement
est prêt à l'emploi.
4. Pour débrancher l'équipement, débranchez la fiche de la prise
murale.

MISE EN/HORS SERVICE
• Réglez le sélecteur POWER sur la source de son désiré: CD,
TUNER ou TAPE.
• L'équipement est hors service lorsque le sélecteur POWER est
en position TAPE/OFF et les touches de la platine cassette
sont relâchées.
– Les réglages de volume et de son ainsi que les préréglages de
syntoniseur sont retenus dans la mémoire de l'équipement.
RÉGLAGE DU VOLUME ET DU SON
1. Tournez la commande VOLUME/ SOUND CONTROL CENTER
vers la droite ou vers la gauche pour augmenter ou diminuer le
volume.
™ L'affichage indique le niveau du volume, VOL et un chiffre de 0 à
32.
2. Pour régler les graves et les niveaux de fréquence moyenne et
supérieure, appuyez une ou plusieurs fois sur
DIGITAL EQUALIZER pour obtenir l'option voulue à l’affichage.
Une fois l’option affichée, tournez sur la commande VOLUME/
SOUND CONTROL CENTER pour augmenter ou réduire (au
maximum de - 5 à + 5) la tonalité désirée.
™ Le niveau du VOLUME peut également être réglé de la même
façon avec une plage de 0 à 32.
3. Appuyez sur DIGITAL DBB pour mettre en/hors service
le‘dynamic bass boost’.
™ Une fois en service, DIGITAL DBB s’allume.
4. Appuyez sur INCREDIBLE SURROUND pour mettre en/hors
service l’effet‘surround sound’.
™ Un fois en service, INCREDIBLE SURROUND s’allume.
Remarque: L’effet INCREDIBLE SURROUND peut varier selon les
types de musique.
SYNTONISATION DES STATIONS RADIO
1. Sélectionnez la source TUNER.
2. Appuyez une ou plusieurs fois sur BAND pour sélectionner la
longueur d’onde.
3. Pour syntoniser une station station, utilisez le bouton TUNING.
Pour améliorer la réception radio:
• Pour la réception en FM, étirez l’antenne télescopique,
inclinez-la et tournez. Réduisez sa longueur si le signal est trop
fort (très près d’un émetteur).
• Pour la réception en MW et LW, l’équipement est pourvu
d’une antenne incorporée, ce qui exclut l’effet de l’antenne
télescopique. Dirigez l’antenne en orientant l’équipement pour
obtenir une réception optimale.

Lecture d’un CD
1. Sélectionnez la source CD.
2. Appuyez sur OPEN•CLOSE pour ouvrir le clapet du
compartiment CD.
™ Affichage: dès que vous ouvrez le clapet du
compartiment CD.
3. Introduisez un CD ou un CD-R(W) avec la face imprimée
orientée vers le haut et appuyez sur OPEN•CLOSE pour fermer
le compartiment.
™ Affichage: lorsque le lecteur de CD passe en revue le
contenu d’un CD. Le nombre total de pistes et la durée de
lecture sont ensuite affichés.
™ Affichage: est affiché si le CD R(W) n’est pas bien
fini.
4. Appuyez sur PLAY•PAUSE 2; pour démarrer la lecture.
™ Affichage: Numéro de piste en cours et durée écoulée de la
lecture CD jusqu’à ce moment-là.
5. Pour faire une pause, appuyez sur PLAY•PAUSE 2;. Appuyez
une nouvelle fois sur PLAY•PAUSE 2; pour reprendre la
lecture.
™ L’affichage se gèle et le temps de lecture écoulé clignote au
moment de la pause.
6. Pour arrêter la lecture CD, appuyez sur STOP 9.
Remarque: La lecture CD s’arrête lorsque:
– le clapet du compartiment CD est ouvert;
– le CD est arrivé au bout (à moins d’avoir sélectionné REPEAT ALL);
– vous sélectionnez une autre source: TAPE / TUNER.
Sélection d’une autre piste
• Appuyez sur SEARCH ∞ ou § une fois ou de façon répétitive
jusqu’à ce que le numéro de la piste désirée apparaisse à
l’affichage.
• Si vous avez sélectionné un numéro de piste brièvement après
avoir chargé un CD ou en position PAUSE, vous devrez appuyer
sur PLAY•PAUSE 2; pour démarrer la lecture.
Recherche d’un passage au sein d’une plage
1. Maintenez enfoncé SEARCH ∞ ou §.
– La lecture se fait à vitesse rapide et à volume réduit.
2. Relâchez SEARCH ∞ ou § dès que vous avez trouvé le
passage souhaité.
– La lecture normale se poursuit.
Remarque: Au cours d’un programme CD ou si SHUFFLE/ REPEAT
a été activé, la recherche est uniquement possible à
l’intérieur d’une plage.

Divers modes de lecture: SHUFFLE et REPEAT
Vous pouvez sélectionner et changer les divers modes de lecture
avant ou pendant la lecture. Les modes de lecture peuvent aussi
être combinés avec PROGRAM.
SHUFFLE - plages du CD total / programme sont lues en ordre
quelconque
SHUFFLE et REPEAT ALL- pour répéter le CD total/ programme de
façon continue en ordre quelconque.
REPEAT ALL- pour répéter le CD total / programme
REPEATet SHUFFLE REPEAT - lit la plage en cours de façon
continue
1. Pour sélectionner un mode de lecture, appuyez sur SHUFFLE
ou REPEAT avant ou pendant la lecture jusqu’à ce que
l’affichage indique la fonction désirée.
2. Appuyez sur PLAY•PAUSE 2; pour démarrer la lecture en
position STOP.
• La lecture repart immédiatement dès que vous avez sélectionné
un mode SHUFFLE.
3. Pour repasser en mode de lecture normal, appuyez
respectivement sur SHUFFLE ou REPEAT jusqu’à ce que les
différents modes SHUFFLE / REPEAT ne soient plus affichés.
– Vous pouvez également appuyer sur STOP 9 pour annuler le
mode de lecture en cours.
Programmation des plages
En position STOP, sélectionnez et mémorisez les plages de CD dans
l’ordre désiré. Vous pouvez mémoriser une plage plus d’une fois.
Vous avez de plus la possibilité de programmer jusqu’à 20 plages.
1. Appuyez une ou plusieurs fois sur SEARCH ∞ ou § pour
sélectionner le numéro de la plage désirée.
2. Appuyez sur PROG.
™ Affichage:
PROG et numéro de plage sélectionné.
apparaît brièvement.
™ Si vous essayez de programmer sans avoir d’abord sélectionné
un numéro de plage, est affiché.
3. Appuyez sur PROG pour confirmer le numéro de plage que
vous désirez programmer.
4. Répétez les points 1 et 2 pour sélectionner et mémoriser toutes
les plages souhaitées.
™ est affiché dès que vous tentez de programmer plus
de 20 plages.
5. Pour démarrer la lecture de votre programme CD, appuyez sur
PLAY•PAUSE 2;.
Remarque: si vous avez sélectionné les plages pendant la lecture
CD, appuyez d’abord sur STOP 9 et ensuite sur
PLAY•PAUSE 2;.

Passage en revue du programme
En position d'arrêt et ou pendant la lecture, maintenez appuyée
PROG pendant quelques secondes jusqu'à ce que l'affichage
indique toutes les
plages mémorisées dans l'ordre mémorisé.
Effacement d'un programme
Vous pouvez effacer le programme:
– en appuyant sur STOP 9 une fois en position STOP;
– en appuyant sur STOP 9 deux fois pendant la lecture.
• L'affichage indique brièvement et
PROG s'éteint.
Le progamme peut également être effacé:
– en appuyant sur le clapet du compartiment CD pour l'ouvrir;
– en sélectionnant une autre source: TAPE/ TUNER.
LECTURE DE CASSETTE
1. Sélectionnez la source TAPE.
™ L'affichage indique
TAPE le temps que la platine cassette est
utilisée.
2. Appuyez sur OPEN•STOP /9 pour ouvrir le compartiment de
cassette.
3. Introduisez une cassette enregistrée et refermez le
compartiment de cassette.
4. Appuyez sur PLAY1 pour ouvrir le compartiment de cassette.
5. Pour interrompre la lecture, appuyez sur PAUSE;. Appuyez à
nouveau sur PAUSE ; pour recommencer la lecture.
6. Appuyez sur SEARCH 5 ou 6 de l'équipement pour avancer
ou rebobiner rapidement la cassette dans une direction
quelconque.
7. Pour arrêter la cassette, appuyez sur OPEN•STOP /9.
• Les touches se déclenchent automatiquement à la fin de la
cassette sauf si PAUSE ; a été activée.
Remarque: Il est impossible de changer de source pendant la
lecture ou pendant un enregistrement de cassette.
