SECTION I. Multiport Rotary Valve.
A. Before changing valve position, turn pump motor off. B. Depress handle before turning to relocate in desired position;
see Figure 1.
1. Filter and Vacuum to the Pool - Normal filtering and
vacuuming: Flow from the pump to the inlet of the filter and effluent from the filter outlet to the pool.
2. Drain and Vacuum to the Waste, Port - All water from the pump
by-passes the filter and goes directly to the waste port. Use when draining the pool or vacuuming a pool with excessive sediment.
3. Close - shuts off all passages from the pump port to all other
ports. Use when removing the strainer lid with the pump off to prevent water in the filter from flowing out through the open pump strainer.
4. Backwash - Use when backwashing (cleaning) the filter. Pump
water is directed to the outlet of the filter and from the inlet of the filter to the waste port.
5. Auxiliary Circulation - Water from the pump by-passes the filter,
returning directly to the pool. Maximum flow is thus achieved.
6. Filter to Waste - Water from the pump is directed through the
filter and out to the waste port.
Figure 1. Valve Handle Positions
7. “Blank” position - This notch does not have any written
identification on the label. It is identified in Figure 2, by the note "To Remove Handle Screw". With the handle, item no. 2 in this position, you can remove the handle holding screw, item no. 1, for replacement.
SECTION II. Trouble Shooting.
A. Valve leaking to the waste port - caused by solid particles lodged
under the rotor which prevents it from seating properly. REMEDY: Turn off the pump; then depress the handle and rotate it
about 1/4" so the handle pointer is resting on the top of the ridge between two notches. Turn on the pump for 5 seconds to wash any such particles from the gasket surface. This should permit the rotor to seat properly on the gasket eliminating the leak. Turn off the pump. Return handle to normal filtering position and turn on pump.
B. Water is leaking around rotor shaft - rotor seals need to be replaced,
refer to Figure 2. REMEDY: Turn off the pump; then remove the six (6) cap screws,
item no. 5. You can now remove the entire top assembly from the valve body, item no. 13. With the handle in the "Blank" position remove the handle screw, item no. 1, and disassemble the top assembly. Replace both rotor seals, item no. 11. Reassembly top assembly and replace on valve body.
