When using electrical products, basic cautions should always be followed, including the following:

7. Do not block any of the ventilation openings. Install in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
8. Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
9. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. A polarized plug has two blades with one wider than the other. A grounding type plug has two blades and a third grounding plug. The wide blade or third prong is provided for your safety. If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet.
10. Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched, particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point they exit from the apparatus.
11. Note for UK only: If the colors of the wires in the mains lead of this unit do not correspond with the terminals in your plug‚ proceed as follows:
a) The wire that is colored green and yellow must be connected to the terminal that is marked by the letter E‚ the earth symbol‚ colored green or colored green and yellow.
b) The wire that is colored blue must be connected to the terminal that is marked with the letter N or the color black. c) The wire that is colored brown must be connected to the terminal that is marked with the letter L or the color red.
12. Only use attachments/accessories provided by the manufacturer.
13. Use only with a cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table specified by the manufacturer, or sold with the apparatus. When a cart is used, use caution when moving the cart/apparatus combination to avoid injury from tip-over.
14. Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time.
15. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.
16. Never break off the ground pin. Write for our free booklet “Shock Hazard and Grounding.” Connect only to a power supply of the type marked on the unit adjacent to the power supply cord.
17. If this product is to be mounted in an equipment rack, rear support should be provided.
18. Exposure to extremely high noise levels may cause a permanent hearing loss. Individuals vary considerably in suscep­tibility to noise-induced hearing loss, but nearly everyone will lose some hearing if exposed to sufficiently intense noise for a sufficient time. The U.S. Government’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has specified the following permissible noise level exposures:

According to OSHA, any exposure in excess of the above permissible limits could result in some hearing loss. Ear plugs or protectors to the ear canals or over the ears must be worn when operating this amplification system in order to prevent a permanent hearing loss, if exposure is in excess of the limits as set forth above. To ensure against potentially dangerous exposure to high sound pressure levels, it is recommended that all persons exposed to equipment capable of producing high sound pressure levels such as this amplification system be protected by hearing protectors while this unit is in operation.

((11)) CCIIRRCCUUIITT BBRREEAAKKEERR The unit is AC power line circuit breaker-
protected from overloads and fault conditions with a resettable 8 Amp breaker. In the rare event this unit should trip the breaker, turn the power switch to the OFF position, reset the breaker by pushing the center lever in all the way and reactivate the power switch. If the breaker lever does not stay in, it may need to cool first.
If the unit trips the breaker again and again, DO NOT continue to resetting the breaker, have the unit checked by a qualified service technician.
((22)) IIEECC PPOOWWEERR CCOORRDD CCOONNNNEECCTTIIOONN The removable AC power cord plugs into this
socket to supply AC line voltage to the power switch.

electronics when switched to the ON position.

power, and should illuminate when the power switch is in the ON position and the AC power cord is connected and plugged into the wall outlet.

the audio input signal to be daisy-chained to other devices. The “input” level is the same as the “output” level and there is no isolation between the various jacks. Input jack (5a) is a medium impedence balanced combo female XLR and 1/4" RTS connector, while jack (5b) is a male XLR.

the mic level is set using this knob, and the ancillary signal (music into the In/Out jacks) level is then set using the source or feed (mixer).
((77)) MMIICC OONN SSWWIITTCCHH When this switch is in the ON position, it connects the mic input jack (8) to the preamp circuitry. If the
microphone is not in use, this switch should be in the OFF position to minimize noise or hum pickup from the mic input.
((88)) MMIICC IINNPPUUTT Female XLR input jack for microphone use with the Impulse 1015P system. This connector provides +15 Volts
phantom power and gain suitable to most of today’s “hot” microphones. When using this input in conjunction with the regular inputs (5), the volume for the mic should be set first using the Volume (6) control, and the level fed to the regular inputs should be set to the desired level using the source level control (mixer).

Impulse 1015P via its Loop In jack. These are unbalanced high-Z jacks, so do not run the cable very far.
OOPPEERRAATTIINNGG IINNSSTTRRUUCCTTIIOONNSS
If it is necessary to remove the rear panel, or re-install it, then the bolts for the rear panel must be loosened or tightened by removing the front speaker grille, and then the woofer, and reaching in from the front to restrain the nuts from spinning. The unit must be disconnected from the AC power source before any work is done on it. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
The heat sink on the back plate can become hot to the touch. Do not block or cover the heat sink from ventilation.
Be sure to keep the microphone away from the front of the speaker after switching the mic input ON and while setting the microphone level, as very loud feedback will occur! Damage to the system is likely if this occurs!
DO NOT connect the inputs of the Impulse 1015P to the output of a power amplifier. The inputs are designed to be driven from a line-level strength signal.
DO NOT remove the protective metal grille.
DO NOT use the Input/Output jacks as mixers by trying to run more than one signal source at a time into them. The Input/Output jacks (5) are all hard-wired together to allow use of any of the connector types as an input, and to allow a further send or “daisy-chaining” of the input signal to some other audio device (such as another Impulse 1015P). Attempting to run two different signals directly into the Impulse 1015P could damage the outputs of the source units. Use a mixer to combine two or more signals into a single signal sent to the Impulse 1015P input.

The Impulse 1015P is extremely efficient and powerful! This sound system can permanently damage
hearing! Use extreme care setting the overall maximum loudness! The apparent sound level of the Impulse 1015P can be deceiving due to its clear, clean sound output. The lack of
distortion or obvious distress can make the sound level seem much lower than it actually is. This system is capable of SPLs in excess of 130 dB at 1 meter from the speaker!

CCaauuttiioonn::
Before attempting to suspend the Impulse 1015P, consult a certified structural engineer. This speaker can fall due to improper suspension, resulting in serious injury and property damage. Other enclosures must not be suspended below one, nor should additional weight be suspended from one of these units. Use only the correct mating hardware. All associated rigging is the responsibility of others.
Always use all four inserts of a given group as a set; NEVER use just one insert to fly a cabinet! The four insert groupings contain a top group of four and a bottom group of four, but some models also have a group of four on the rear plane of the cabinet.
Maximum enclosure angle from vertical hang: 30˚
Always loop a suitable safety chain or wire rope through the top handle of the unit and firmly attach to a suitable structural member as indicated by a certified structural engineer.
The recommended range of torque for the mounting bolt is 3 to 3-1/2 lb./ft. of torque. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN! If an insert spins, it has been damaged and the cabinet cannot be flown!
Never transport the cabinet while it’s mounted on an array bracket or other mounting bracket, as this may unduly stress the mounting inserts.
WWAARRNNIINNGG!! ((nnoottee ttoo ssttrruuccttuurraall eennggiinneeeerr)) For the Impulse 1015P, the thread insertion depth of the end of the mounting bolt should not be more than 1/2"
past the surface of the cabinet. If these thread insertion depths are exceeded, then the inserts may be damaged or unseated from the cabinet, severely compromising the mounting integrity of the cabinet!
The correct mounting bolt diameter and threads per inch are: 1/4" X 20. Use of a grade five bolt is recommended.

GGEETTTTIINNGG AACC PPOOWWEERR TTOO TTHHEE IIMMPPUULLSSEE 11001155PP The Impulse 1015P comes with an 8' IEC connection AC power cord. It is likely that some sort of extension cord
will be used with this powered speaker system, so make sure the extension cord is no longer than necessary and of a sufficient current capacity to maintain safety. Extension cords no longer than necessary and of the largest current capacity available will maximize the power output capability of the Impulse 1015P’s internal amplifiers. For best results, do not power anything else from the extension cord used to power the Impulse 1015P. Using a separate extension cord for this unit will minimize the voltage drop that all extension cords cause. Running just one extension cord back to the wall plug for the entire sound system is not the way to maximize sound system performance.
The third wire ground plug on the AC plug should NEVER be removed or broken off, as this seriously compromises safety.
UUSSIINNGG TTHHEE IIMMPPUULLSSEE 11001155PP WWIITTHH AA SSUUBBWWOOOOFFEERR The built-in pole adapter allows use with the Peavey Q-Wave 118 subwoofer, and the accessory pole that it is
designed to use, Peavey part #00326540. The pole used is 36-3/16" long and has a nominal diameter of 1-3/8".
GGEETTTTIINNGG AA SSIIGGNNAALL TTOO TTHHEE IIMMPPUULLSSEE 11001155PP The Impulse 1015P has a variety of options for inputting a signal to the system. Microphone input usage is covered in a specific section below. The balanced line level input/s allow the use of a
1/4" phone plug; either a standard single-ended (tip-sleeve) plug or a balanced TRS (tip-ring-sleeve) type plug; OR either a male or female XLR plug. Do not connect cables to the jacks while the units are ON and the Volume is turned up!
While the standard, single-ended 1/4" phone plug will work well and its balanced input circuitry will provide some interference rejection, a balanced cable using either the balanced TRS 1/4" phone plug or the XLR plug will provide superior interference rejection and performance. To correct difficult interference problems, it can be helpful to lift the shield ground on a balanced cable at the Impulse 1015P end only. Check any input changes carefully, always turning the Volume control down before plugging or unplugging cables.
Use of high quality, premium cables is recommended for the Impulse 1015P, as these usually have better shielding and materials and will provide greater long-term reliability. It is usually a good idea to leave some slack at the Impulse 1015P’s input and to tape down the cables or run them under a cable guard to avoid anyone tripping over them or pulling the Impulse 1015P over when stand-mounted.
VVOOLLUUMMEE CCOONNTTRROOLL AADDJJUUSSTTMMEENNTT The Impulse 1015P is equipped with a Volume control to facilitate use in many different applications. With the
Volume control adjusted fully clockwise, gain is at maximum and the input sensitivity is 0.5 V RMS for full-rated output. When driving the Impulse 1015P from a mixer, it may be advantageous to reduce the input sensitivity by turning the Volume control to the halfway point. The Impulse 1015P will now more closely match a typical power amp input.
If the mixer board indicates output signal clipping, then the Impulse 1015P’s power capability is not being utilized cleanly. Clipping the signal before it gets to the unit is not optimal. Instead, reduce the mixer output level and turn up the volume control on the Impulse 1015P.

The amplifiers in the Impulse 1015P are equipped with DDT™and an LED indicator to show it has engaged. If the sound seems heavily compressed and the DDT indicator is lighting more than occasionally, then the drive level from the mixer (or the Volume control on the Impulse 1015P) needs to be reduced.
When first turning on the sound system, switch-on all upstream electronics first, then the Impulse 1015P with its volume control fully counterclockwise (all the way down). Begin checking levels with the mixer output level controls all the way down, and bring them up slowly with the Impulse 1015P volume control set to the desired setting (halfway up recommended to start).
UUSSIINNGG TTHHEE MMIICC IINNPPUUTT WWIITTHH SSIIMMUULLTTAANNEEOOUUSS MMUUSSIICC PPLLAAYYBBAACCKK With the mic input (8) switched on (7), a signal will be sent to the Impulse 1015P preamp electronics. Be sure to
keep the mic away from the front of the speaker after switching the mic input ON and during level setting of the microphone, as very loud feedback will occur! The recommended placement of the person using the microphone is to the side and slightly to the rear of the Impulse 1015P, not out in front of the speaker system. When not using the mic input, be sure to switch off the mic (7) for the lowest noise and hum pickup.
Set the microphone level using the Volume control (6), the sound source may be louder during the actual presentation, and there is also the possibility that the microphone may be brought closer to the front of the speaker later on. For best results, the microphone should be held close to the user mouth instead of a foot or more away. Do not “eat” the mic that is, do not put your lips right on the mic, as this can often result in a boomy sound. The best results are obtained when the mic is approximately 2-3" away from the mouth.
When using the mic input (8) and the regular inputs (5) for simultaneous music, speech or singing, the volume for the mic should be set first using the Level control (6) as described above. The level fed to the regular inputs should be set to the desired level and matched to the microphone levels using the source Level Control or mixer.
UUSSEE OOFF MMUULLTTIIPPLLEE IIMMPPUULLSSEE 11001155PPss (or other Impulse series powered products) Multiple parallel inputs allow the Impulse 1015P to be “daisy-chained” from one to anther. Run the first cable
from the mixer to the first Impulse 1015P, then hook a cable from its inputs to the second Impulse 1015P’s input. This can be continued for several units, depending on the length and total capacitance of the cables. With a low source impedance, such as a typical mixer output and typical balanced cables, two or three Impulse 1015Ps can be daisy-chained from one output using 30' or 40' cables without obvious loss of high frequencies.
The Loop-Thru jacks (10) can also be used to connect an Impulse 1015P or another Impulse series powered unit, and conveniently control volume from just one of the units. Connect a well-shielded 1/4" to 1/4" phone plug patch cord from the Loop Out jack of the unit with its input connected to the signal source, and then plug this cable into the other unit’s Loop In jack. The Volume control of the first unit now controls the volume for both identically.
Do not connect cables to the jacks while the units are ON and the Volume is turned up!

AAPPPPLLIICCAATTIIOONNSS The Impulse 1015P has a variety of applications such as sound reinforcement, public address, side fill system or
playback. With the optional monitor stand kit, the Impulse 1015P makes an excellent stage monitor. The Impulse 1015P can be used presentations or karaoke by using the mic input and regular line level inputs in conjunction with one another.
A typical signal source for the line level inputs (5) of the Impulse 1015P would be a sound reinforcement mixing console (mixer) or the output from a CD player, Minidisc player or tape deck.
TTRROOUUBBLLEESSHHOOOOTTIINNGG
NNoo oouuttppuutt aatt aallll First, make sure the unit has AC power and is turned on. If so, the Power LED (4) should be illuminated. If it is
not, check that the On-Off switch (3) is in the ON position and check the IEC power cord connection (2) to make sure it’s fully engaged and seated. Make sure the AC line cord is plugged into a working AC outlet and check the circuit breaker (1) {see the REAR PANEL/Circuit Breaker section for safety instructions}.
Then, make sure the Impulse 1015P’s inputs are getting a signal by running a the cable from the inputs to some other device capable of determining this (for example, a power amp and speaker).
If there is still no output, then be sure the volume control has been turned up to a reasonable level (one-third to halfway).
Has the Impulse 1015P been in direct sunlight or excessive heat? If so, it may have triggered the thermal protection. Turn off the unit and cool as best as the situation allows (DO NOT use liquids for this purpose!).
If there is still no output, it may help to read the owner’s manual completely.
HHuumm oorr BBuuzzzz As this can be AC outlet-related, try plugging the Impulse 1015P into a different AC outlet. Sometimes, if the
mixer and the Impulse 1015P, are plugged into different circuits (breakers) it can cause hum problems.
Make sure the microphone input (8) is disengaged if not in use, by checking the Mic On switch (7). It should be in the OFF position.
Check to make sure that shielded cables have been used to get the signal to the Impulse 1015P’s inputs. Speaker cables with 1/4" or XLR plugs are very prone to hum.
Check to make sure light dimmers are not on the same circuit as the Impulse 1015P or the mixer (or any source devices). If light dimmers are in use, then it may be necessary to turn them full on or full off to eliminate or reduce hum to tolerable levels. This is an AC wiring/light dimmer interference problem, and not the fault of the Impulse 1015P. The third wire ground plug on the AC plug should NEVER be removed or broken off, as this seriously compromises safety.

DDiissttoorrtteedd oorr FFuuzzzzyy SSoouunndd First, make sure the mixer (or signal source) is not clipping or being overdriven. This can sometimes occur when
the Volume control (6) on the Impulse 1015P has been set too low (too far counterclockwise), and it takes a lot of signal to drive the unit to full power.
Make sure the input plugs are fully seated in the input jacks (5) on the rear panel of the Impulse 1015P.
Check to see that the proper inputs are being used (5) for line-level signals, not the mic input (8). Make sure that a power amp has not been plugged into the input jacks of the Impulse 1015P.
If an extension cord is being used to provide AC power to the unit, is it of sufficient current capacity and not also being used to supply power to any other units? See “GETTING AC POWER TO THE IMPULSE 1015P” for details.
The Impulse 1015P has built-in EQ to extend and smooth the natural response of the speakers in the system. Bass boost and HF EQ have been applied, and the system has a nominally flat response, so it should require little, if any, additional EQ. If excessive additional bass boost or HF boost have been added externally to the Impulse 1015P, it may cause premature overload at high SPLs. Try backing off of any external EQ (mixer, rack equalizer) and see if that clears up any tendency to distort. If the Contour switch (9) has been engaged, defeat it by making sure it is in the OFF position.
Even though the Impulse 1015P is an extremely powerful and high output unit, it does ultimately have limits, and it may require additional powered units (or a sub-woofer) to provide enough sound output or coverage. In this case, try turning the mixer levels down a little to see if that clears things up.
After checking everything listed to check in this manual and anything else you can think of to check safely, if the system still exhibits problems, carefully note all conditions and check with your Peavey dealer for advice.

common sense and read the safety warnings to avoid hazardous operating conditions. Tightening the bolts on the rear panel may require that the front speaker grille be removed, and then the woofer, and reaching in from the front to restrain the nuts from spinning.
The unit must be disconnected from the AC power source before any work is done on it. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.

Excessively hot operating conditions can also cause a thermal shut down.
Do not store in extremely hot or cold conditions or extremely high humidity. Always allow unit to come to room temperature before use.

CClleeaanniinngg Never clean the Impulse 1015P while plugged in or turned on! When the unit has been fully disconnected from AC
power sources, a dry cloth can remove soil or other dirt. Never use strong solvents on the Impulse 1015P, as they could damage the cabinet. Do not allow ANY fluids to drip inside the Impulse 1015P!
TToouucchh--uupp If the Impulse 1015P cabinet becomes scratched or abraded, it can be touched-up using a black permanent
marker. First, if the area to be touched-up is larger than a short scratch, rub it lightly with an unsoaped plastic scrub pad. Wipe the scratched or abraded area a little at a time with the black permanent marker and wipe away the surplus with a lint-free cloth. For an overall finish enhancement and protective coating, use gloves to apply either WD-40
®
or Armour-All®protectant to the surface of the plastic cabinet only. Rub the cabinet vigorously
with a dry, lint-free cloth to minimize slippage.
If the grille should become discolored or show signs of a white coating, you can use a cleaner such as 409®or Fantastic
®
to clean this off of the grille. Use a clean cloth slightly dampened with the cleaner and rub it across
the front surface of the grille.
CChheecckk ffoorr SSeeccuurree HHaarrddwwaarree After the first few months of use and periodically thereafter, check the hardware of the Impulse 1015P for
tightness, including the rear panel screws and the screws that hold the baffle and rear cabinet together. The unit is subject to a great deal of vibration, which could cause them to with use.

The Peavey Impulse 1015P is a powered, bi-amplified, two-way speaker system engineered to provide the highest levels of performance possible in a compact powered loudspeaker. Capable of over 130 dB peak SPLs, this system can pump out a huge amount of sound. The enclosure utilizes high-impact polypropylene in an injection-molded plastic trapezoidal form, with a coated perforated metal grille to offer a cosmetically elegant yet durable powered speaker system.
This two-way powered system is comprised of an 800 Watt dynamic peak power amplifier driving a 15" BWX Black Widow
®
woofer (1508-4 SPS) a Kevlar™impregnated cone, surround and dust cap specially treated for
excellent weather-resistance. The RX
22 compression driver is driven by a 200 Watt peak dynamic power amplifier, and features a 2" titanium diaphragm covered by US Patent #6064745 for the Radialinear Planar Phase Correction System used in the phase plug. It is coupled to an extremely smooth and well-controlled constant directivity horn with a coverage pattern of 90˚ by 45˚ molded integrally into the enclosure.
Balanced inputs provided to the preamp/EQ electronics are one combo female XLR and 1/4" TRS phone jack, plus one male XLR, connected in parallel. A separate switchable microphone input (female XLR) is provided. The power amplifiers providing the bi-amplification are low distortion units providing 400 Watt RMS into the nominal 4 Ohm load of the woofer, and a 100 W RMS into the nominal 6 Ohm load of the tweeter. They were selected for their reliability and superb musical performance capability. Both amplifiers feature our patented DDT
compression, which virtually eliminates audible power amplifier clipping.
Multiple molded-in handles provide easy transport, while multiple mounting points (top and bottom) for the Peavey Versamount™ 70 and a molded-in stand adapter provide maximum utility.

AArrcchhiitteeccttuurraall aanndd EEnnggiinneeeerriinngg SSppeecciiffiiccaattiioonnss The powered loudspeaker system shall have a frequency response from 56 Hz to 18 kHz. The peak SPL with
inaudible distortion shall reach 130 dB with music as a source when measured at a distance of 1 meter and driven to full output capacity. The system shall utilize a 15" BWX Black Widow

woofer and a RX™22 compression
driver tweeter. The nominal radiation pattern shall be 90˚ in the horizontal plane and 45˚ in the vertical plane.
The powered, bi-amplified loudspeaker system shall have a group of medium impedance input connectors consisting of one combo female XLR and 1/4" TRS phone jack, and one male XLR, on the rear panel and connected in parallel. Additionally, a separate switchable microphone input (female XLR) shall be provided. A Loop Out and a Loop In jack shall be provided. A volume control will be located next to the input jack group.
The system power amplifiers shall have an unfiltered frequency response of 10 Hz to 30 kHz, which deviates no more than +0, -1 dB up to rated power; a damping factor greater than 100 @ 1 kHz into 4 Ohms; hum and noise better than 90 dB below rated power; and THD and IMD of less than 0.1%. The woofer amplifier shall be capable of 400 Watts into a 4 Ohm nominal load, and the tweeter amplifier shall be capable of 100 W output into a 6 Ohm load. Both shall incorporate independent DDT
compression.
The input signal shall be electronically divided into high frequencies and low frequencies by a staggered pole, third order slope line-level crossover at 1.8 kHz. The low frequencies shall be processed to provide bass boost, subsonic filtering and overall response shaping, and the high frequencies shall be equalized for constant directivity horn EQ and response shaping.
The enclosure shall be constructed of injection-molded polypropylene of 1/4" nominal thickness with a UL flame rating and internal reinforcing ribs. A handgrip shall be molded in to each side of the woofer and on the top rear edge.
A vinyl coated, perforated metal grille shall be provided for woofer protection. The cabinet shall incorporate four tall, sturdy rubber feet for floor standing use, and four mounting point inserts on the top and bottom for flying use.
The outside dimensions shall be 28.562" tall by 21.312" wide (11.5" wide in rear) by 17" deep, and the weight shall be 69 lbs. Power requirements shall be: 660 Watts, 120VAC, 60 Hz Domestic and 240 VAC, 50 Hz (European). The loudspeaker system shall be called a Peavey Impulse 1015P.
