Replacement battery information:

L Replace batteries only with a nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH) type of

battery. This model requires 2 AAA (R03) batteries for every handset. For best performance, we recommend using Panasonic rechargeable batteries (Model No. HHR-4MPT).

Important information

General

L Use only the AC adaptor supplied with this product, noted on page 2. L Do not connect the AC adaptor to any AC outlet other than a standard

220–240 V AC outlet.

L This product is unable to make calls when:

− the portable handset battery(ies) need recharging or have failed.

− there is a power failure.

− the key lock feature is turned on.

− the call bar feature is turned on (only phone numbers stored in the unit

as emergency numbers can be called).

L Do not open the base unit, charger, or handset other than to replace the

battery(ies).

L Consult the manufacturer of any personal medical devices, such as

pacemakers or hearing aids, to determine if they are adequately shielded from external RF (radio frequency) energy. (The product operates in the frequency range of 1.88 GHz to 1.90 GHz, and the RF transmission power is 250 mW (max.).) Do not use the product in health care facilities if any regulations posted in the area instruct you not to do so. Hospitals or health care facilities may be using equipment that could be sensitive to external RF energy.

L Care should be taken that objects do not fall onto, and liquids are not

spilled into, the product. Do not subject this product to excessive smoke, dust, mechanical vibration or shock.

L Only the supplied handset can be used with the base unit. No other

handsets can be registered or used.

Environment

L Do not use this product near water.

Introduction

L This product should be kept away from heat sources such as radiators,

cookers, etc. It should also not be placed in rooms where the temperature is less than 5 °C or greater than 40 °C.

Warning:

L To prevent the risk of electrical shock, do not expose this product to rain

or any other type of moisture.

L Unplug this product from power outlets if it emits smoke, an abnormal

smell, or makes unusual noise. These conditions can cause fire or electric shock. Confirm that smoke has stopped emitting and contact an authorised service centre.

L Do not spill liquids (detergents, cleansers, etc.) onto the telephone line

cord plug, or allow it to become wet at all. This may cause a fire. If the telephone line cord plug becomes wet, immediately pull it from the telephone wall jack, and do not use.

L Do not place or use this product near automatically controlled devices

such as automatic doors and fire alarms. Radio waves emitted from this product may cause such devices to malfunction resulting in an accident.

L Regularly remove any dust, etc. from the AC adaptor/power plug by

pulling it from the power outlet, then wiping with a dry cloth. Accumulated dust may cause an insulation defect from moisture, etc. resulting in a fire.

L Do not damage the power cord/plug. This may cause a short circuit,

electric shock, and/or fire.

L Do not touch the plug with wet hands. L The AC adaptor is used as the main disconnect device. Ensure that the

AC outlet is installed near the product and is easily accessible.

Battery caution

L We recommend using the battery(ies) noted on page 2. USE ONLY

rechargeable Ni-MH batteries AAA (R03) size.

L Do not mix old and new batteries. L Do not dispose of the battery(ies) in a fire, as they may explode. Check

with local waste management codes for special disposal instructions.

The unit will not work during a power failure. We recommend connecting a corded-type telephone (without AC adaptor) to the same telephone line or to the same telephone line jack using a T-adaptor.

Important:

L Use the supplied rechargeable batteries (Part No. HHR-55AAAB). L When installing the batteries:

− Wipe the battery ends (S, T) with a dry cloth.

− Avoid touching the battery ends (S, T) or the unit contacts.

− Confirm correct polarities (S, T).

L If the handset does not automatically turn on after installing batteries,

press {ih} for about 1 second, or place the handset on the base unit or charger.

Insert the batteries negative (T) end first. Close the handset cover.

Making/Answering Calls

Dialling mode

If you cannot make calls, change this setting according to your telephone line service. The default setting is Tone. “1” (Tone): For tone dial service. “2” (Pulse): For rotary/pulse dial service.

Adjusting the receiver volume

Press {e} or {v} repeatedly while talking.

Pause (for PBX/long distance service users)

A pause is sometimes required when making calls using a PBX or long distance service. Pressing {R} 1 time creates a 3 second pause. Press {R} repeatedly to create longer pauses.

Key lock

The handset can be locked so that no calls or settings can be made. Incoming calls can be answered, but all other functions are disabled while key lock is on. Press {j/OK} for about 2 seconds to turn key lock on/off.

Note:

L Calls to emergency numbers cannot be made until key lock is turned off.

Recall/flash

{R} allows you to use the special features of your host PBX such as transferring an extension call, or accessing optional telephone services.

Note:

L To change the recall/flash time, see page 14.

For call waiting or Call Waiting Caller ID service users

To use call waiting, you must first subscribe to the call waiting service of your service provider/telephone company. This feature allows you to receive calls while you are already talking on the phone. If you receive a call while on the phone, you will hear a call waiting tone.

If you subscribe to both Caller ID and Call Waiting with Caller ID services, the 2nd caller’s information is displayed after you hear the call

waiting tone on the handset.

1 Press {R} to answer the 2nd call. 2 To switch between calls, press {R}.

L Please contact your service provider/telephone company for details and

availability of this service in your area.

Temporary tone dialling (for rotary/pulse service users)

You can temporarily switch the dialling mode to tone when you need to access touch-tone services (for example, telephone banking services).

appropriate dial keys. L The dialling mode will return to pulse when you hang up.

Adding entries to the phonebook

The phonebook allows you to make calls without having to dial manually. You can add 50 names and phone numbers.

Assigning an entry in the phonebook to a one touch dial key

Dial keys {1} to {9} can each be used as a one touch dial key, allowing you to dial a number from the phonebook by simply pressing a dial key.

*1 If you select a melody for the external ringer tone, the ringer continues

to sound until the melody finishes even when another person answers the call using another phone connected to the same line. If you want the handsets to stop ringing at the same time, select ringer tone number 1.

*2 Auto talk feature allows you to answer calls simply by lifting the handset

off the base unit or charger. You do not need to press {C}. If you subscribe to a Caller ID service and want to view the caller’s information after lifting up the handset to answer a call, turn off this feature.

Call bar

Call bar feature prohibits outside calls from being made. When call bar is turned on, only emergency calls can be made. To store emergency numbers, see page 15.

Changing the handset PIN

For security, the handset PIN must be entered when changing certain settings. If you change the PIN, please write down your new PIN as the unit will not reveal it to you again.

Caller ID Service

Using Caller ID service

Important:

L This unit is Caller ID compatible. To use Caller ID features, you must

subscribe to a Caller ID service. Contact your service provider/telephone company for details.

Caller ID features

Display indications

L When new calls have been received, the display shows the number of

new calls. Example: 4 new calls have been received.

L Phone numbers of the last 50 different callers are logged in the caller list.

Example:

*1 Shown when this call has already been viewed or answered. Press {C} to call back. L If the unit cannot receive caller information, the following is displayed:

− “OUT OF AREA”: The caller dials from an area which does not provide a Caller ID service.

− “PRIVATE”: The caller requests not to send caller information.

DTMF mode setting

Certain service providers/telephone companies send caller information between the first and second rings. If the display does not show caller information after a few rings, follow these instructions to set DTMF mode.

L If you forget your PIN, see page 21.

4 Select DTMF mode by pressing {2}. 5 {>} i {ih}

Storing/editing/erasing

Multi-unit Operation

Voice mail service

Voice mail is an automatic answering service offered by your service provider/telephone company. After you subscribe to this service, your service provider/telephone company’s voice mail system answers calls for you when you are unavailable to answer the phone or when your line is busy. Messages are recorded by your service provider/telephone company, not your telephone. When you have new messages, 0 is displayed on the handset depending on your service provider/telephone company. Please contact your service provider/telephone company for details of this service.

Important:

L If 0 still remains on the display even after you have listened to new

messages, turn it off by pressing {<} for 1 second.

Intercom

Available for:

KX-TG1312/KX-TG1313

Intercom calls can be made between handsets.

Example: When handset 1 calls handset 2

1 Handset 1:

{INT} i Press {2} (desired handset number).

2 Handset 2:

{C}

3 When you finish talking, press {ih}.

Useful Information

Transferring calls, conference calls

Available for:

KX-TG1312/KX-TG1313

Outside calls can be transferred between 2 handsets. 2 handsets can have a conference call with an outside party.

Example: When handset 1 transfers a call to handset 2

1 Handset 1:

During an outside call, press {INT}. i Press {2} (desired handset number).

L The outside call is put on hold. L If there is no answer, press {INT} to return to the outside call.

2 Handset 2:

Press {C} to answer the page. L Handset 2 can talk with handset 1.

3 Handset 1:

To complete the call transfer, press {ih}. To establish a conference call, press {3}.

Transferring a call without speaking to the other handset user

1 During an outside call, press {INT}. i Enter the desired handset

number. L k flashes to indicate the outside call is on hold.

2 {ih}

L The outside call rings at the other handset.

Note:

L If the other handset user does not answer the call within 30 seconds, the

call rings at your handset again.

Troubleshooting

If you still have difficulties after following the instructions in this section, disconnect the base unit’s AC adaptor and turn off the handset, then reconnect the base unit’s AC adaptor and turn on the handset.

Problem Cause/solution

w is flashing. L The handset is too far from the base

unit. Move closer.

L The base unit’s AC adaptor is not

connected. Check the connections (page 4).

L You are using the handset or base unit

in an area with high electrical interference. Re-position the base unit and use the handset away from sources of interference.

L Clean the charge contacts and charge

again (page 6).

L It is time to replace the batteries

(page 6).

L Clean the battery ends (S, T) and the

charge contacts with a dry cloth, and charge again.

additional telephone equipment, remove and plug the unit directly into the wall jack.

L If you use a DSL/ADSL service, we

recommend connecting a DSL/ADSL filter between the base unit and the telephone line jack. Contact your DSL/ ADSL provider for details.

L Other telephone equipment may be

interfering with this unit. Disconnect the other equipment and try again.

L Depending on your service provider/

telephone company, the unit may display the caller’s information at 2nd ring or later.

L Move closer to the base unit.

L Change the PIN using the instructions

on page 21.

Liquid damage

Problem Cause/solution

Liquid or other form of moisture has entered the handset/base unit.

Caution:

L To avoid permanent damage, do not use a microwave oven to speed up

the drying process.

Registering the handset to the base unit

L Disconnect the AC adaptor and

telephone line cord from the base unit. Remove the batteries from the handset and leave to dry for at least 3 days. After the handset/base unit are completely dry, reconnect the AC adaptor and telephone line cord. Insert the batteries and charge fully before use. If the unit does not work properly, contact your nearest Panasonic service centre.
