Your computer is equipped with a touchscreen function allowing you to perform the same operations as the touch pad or mouse by touching the surface of the display with the stylus (included). (The following explanation gives one example (for the default settings).
Windows 2000
The operation settings can be changed in [Start] - [Programs] - [UPDD] - [Settings].)
Windows XP
The operation settings can be changed in [Start] - [All Programs] - [UPDD] - [Settings].)
Handling the Touchscreen
Do not place any object on the surf ace or press down forcefully with sharp-pointed objects (e.g., nails), or hard objects that can leave marks (e.g., pencils and ball point pens). Do not operate the computer when such things as dust are on the screen. Do not allow substances, such as oil to contact the LCD. The cursor may not work properly in such cases. CAUTION
The touchscreen function can not be used when using the full screen in [Command Prompt]. When the operation of panning (only LCD) is performed while the screen resolution is set to [1024 x 768 dots] or more, the touchscreen function will not work properly. If a change is made to the screen resolution, or the cursor can not be pointed correctly with the stylus, be sure to perform [Calibrate]. ( page 10)
Handling the Stylus
Clean the stylus tip and screen prior to operation. Foreign particles can scratch the screen and impede the operation of the stylus. Use the accessory stylus only on the wireless display screen. Using it for an y other purpose may damage the stylus and scratch the screen. Do not use pencils, implements with sharp tips or hard objects for screen operations. The screen may be damaged as a result. Since the stylus is retractable tip, be sure to use the stylus only after the stylus tip is ready for use (i.e ., clic ked open). Otherwise, scratches may result on the screen.

At the “beep” sound, release your finger from the power switch. If you continue to slide the switch and hold it for more than four seconds, the unit will emit a second “beep” then power off. Data not previously saved will be lost.
Windows 2000
Even when [When I press the power button on my computer] is set to [Power Off] with [Control Panel] - [Power Options] - [Advanced], if the power switch is pressed, a beep will sound and the power will go off if the switch is pressed f or more than four seconds, although the computer will not completely shut down.

When [Standby] or [Hibernate] is selected as the setting for [When I close the lid of my portable computer], the computer will enter either the standby or hibernation mode when the LCD panel is closed. Operation will resume when the LCD panel is opened. Even if the display is closed after the computer has entered either the standby or hibernation mode, operation will resume when the display is opened. If the computer does not resume when the LCD panel is opened, slide the power switch.
After the display returns, the computer needs a short period of time to reinitialize. This takes about 30 seconds. Do not shut down or restart Windows, or enter either the standby or hibernation mode again during this time, as this ma y subsequently cause Windows to operate abnormally. When operation resumes, serial devices such as a mouse, modem or PC Cards may not function properly. In such cases, you will need to restart your computer or reinitialize the individual devices. Avoid the following until the power is completely turned off when tur ning off the computer by using the standby or hibernation functions, or resuming operation from the standby or hibernation.
• Touch the keyboard (excluding password input), touch pad, or power switch.
• Connect or disconnect the AC adaptor.
• Close the display.
Even when a password has been set in the Setup Utility, [Enter Password] does not appear when the computer resumes from the standby or hibernation mode. If you want to use the security function when using the standby or hibernation mode, use the Windows password as follows:
Windows 2000
Set the password in [Control Panel] - [Users and Passwords], then add the check mark for [Prompt for passw ord when computer goes off standb y] in [Control Panel]
- [Power Options] - [Advanced].
Windows XP

Standby/Hibernation Functions
Do not use the standby or hibernation function when using the network function. Save all data before powering off your computer. When restarting from or shutting down to the standby or hibernation mode, do not touch the touch pad or touchscreen (or move the mouse if one is connected). T he se devices may fail to operate, you will then need to restart your computer using the keyboard. Do not enter the standby or hibernation mode during the following periods (you may corrupt your data or file):
•While the floppy disk drive being accessed or hard disk drive indicator ( ) is on.
• While playing/recording audio files.
• While communications software is being used. Do not enter the standby or hibernation mode during the following periods. The standby or hibernation function may not work, or the computer (or peripherals) may fail to work properly.
• When a file in an external device such as a CD-ROM drive, external hard disk, or ATA card is opened, the standby or hibernation function may not work. In such cases, close the file.
• LAN cards (port), SCSI cards and modem cards (por t) etc. may not recover after entering the standby or hibernation mode. If this occurs, restart the computer.
• When a USB device is in use or is connected to the computer (note: only for some USB devices). If this occurs, remove the USB device temporarily and restart the computer.
If you hold down on Alt , Ctrl or Shift to enter the standb y or hibernation mode, after resuming operation, you must press the same key. For example, if you hold down on Shift while pushing the po w er s witch, upon resuming, if y ou do not press Shift again, only capital letters will result from typing. Slide the power switch and hold it for more than four seconds to power off the computer only when the computer locks up. Data not previously saved will be lost. In the standby mode, power is consumed. If PC Cards are inser ted, more of that power is consumed. When all power has been consumed, all data saved at standby is lost since it is retained in memory. We therefore recommend plugging in the AC adaptor when using the standby function. If the standby or hibernation function is used repeatedly, the computer may not work properly. To stabilize computer operations, we recommend shutting down Windows on a regular basis (about once a week) without using the standby or hibernation function. The screen that is displayed when resuming from the hibernation mode may be different from the screen that is displayed before entering the hibernation mode. Do not install or remov e peripherals while your computer is in the standby or hibernation mode; abnormal operation may result.
