IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

DECANTER USE AND CARE

Follow the instructions below to reduce or eliminate the chance of breaking the glass decanter or thermal carafe:

1. This decanter is designed for use with your Oster® coeemaker and therefore must never be used on a range top or in any oven, including a microwave oven.

2. Do not set a hot decanter on a wet or cold surface.

3. Do not use a cracked decanter or a decanter having a loose or weakened handle.

4. Do not clean the decanter with abrasive cleaners, steel wool pads or other abrasive materials.

5. Discard the decanter immediately if it is ever boiled dry.

6. Protect the decanter from sharp blows, scratches or rough handling.

INTRODUcTION

Welcome and congratulations on the purchase of your new OSTER® 12 Cup COFFEEMAKER. Your new coeemaker will wake up with you in the morning and provide you breaks and treats during your hectic daily activities. How you enjoy your Oster® Coeemaker is up to you!

SPEcIAl cORD SET INSTRUcTIONS

1. A short power supply cord is provided to reduce the hazards resulting from a person or pet becoming entangled in, or tripping over, a longer cord.

2. An extension cord may be purchased and used if care is exercised in its use.

3. If an extension cord is used, the marked electrical rating of the extension cord must be at least 10 amps and 120 volts. The resulting extended cord must be arranged so that it will not drape over a countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over accidentally.

4. This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug will t in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not t fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not t, contact a qualied electrician. Do not modify the plug in any wa y.

5. You can customize the length of the power cord so that it is the exact length you desire. To increase the length of the power cord: grasp the power cord (not the power plug) and gently lift it out of the slot, then pull it away from the coeemaker. To decrease the length of the power cord: grasp the power cord (not the power plug), lift it out of the slot and gently feed it into the coeemaker. Lock the cord in the slot when nished.

NOTE: Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during brewing cycles.

12 CUP COFFEEMAKER

Your new Oster® Coeemaker has the following features:

• Brewing Capacity – 12 cups – Glass decanter series

• Brew Basket with Removable Filter Basket – The lter basket lifts out for fast

and easy cleaning and lling.

• Pause ‘n Serve – Can’t wait for the coee to nish brewing? The Pause ‘n Serve

feature allows you up to 30 seconds to pour a cup of coee while the coeemaker is still brewing. Carefully remove the decanter and the Pause ’n Serve feature will be automatically activated, temporarily stopping the ow of coee into the decanter.

• Non-Stick Warming Plate – This feature allows you to keep your coee hot after

brewing. The non-stick attribute prevents the decanter from sticking to the surface of the warming plate.

• On/O Indicator Light – Lets you know when your coeemaker is “on”.

• Additional Programmable Control Features: – Clock – The LED clock serves as a handy kitchen clock and allows you to set

the Delay Brew feature.

– Delay Brew – Would you like to wake up to a fresh pot of coee? The timer

allows you to preset when you would like the coeemaker to automatically brew your coee, up to 24 hours in advance.

– Aroma Button – Regular or strong brew. Adjusts the brewing time to create

a more full avored coee.

– Two-Hour Auto Shut-O – This safety feature keeps your coee warm for

2 hours after you brew, then automatically turns o.

NOTE: If you have selected any of the operating functions, the coeemaker will act

upon the last operation selected if the power is restored within 10 seconds after a power outage.

Before using your Oster® Coeemaker

Make sure your rst cup of coee is as good as can be by cleaning your Oster® Coeemaker before its rst use. Just follow these simple steps:

• Wash the decanter, decanter lid and the lter basket in a mixture of mild detergent

and water. Rinse each thoroughly (please refer to the parts diagram listed above).

• Replace all the parts and close the lid. Then, run a brew cycle with water only, without

adding coee and coee lter.

• When brewing is complete, turn your coeemaker o, discard the water in the

decanter and rinse the decanter, decanter lid, and lter basket.

Your coeemaker is now ready to use. Enjoy it!

HOW TO

SETTING THE CLOCK AND DELAY BREW TIME

On programmable models only

To Set the Clock:

1 Plug the power cord into a standard electrical outlet. 2 Press the HOUR and MINUTE buttons until you reach the current time. The AM/PM

indicator will light on the left of the display.

The clock is now set!

To Set the Delay Brew Time:

After setting the clock, simply press the PROGRAM button (Figure 1), and set the brew time by pressing the HOUR and MINUTE buttons. The AM/PM indicator will light up on the clock display.

The Delay Brew Time is now set!

NOTE: To activate the DELAY BREW cycle, see the “Brewing Coee Later” section.

NOTE: After about 3 seconds normal clock time will appear. To check the programmed time, push the PROGRAM button. The display will show the time you have programmed the coee to brew.

PREPARING FOR USE

Selecting and Measuring Ground Coee

For best results, use a level tablespoon for ground coee measurement. Make sure you use medium grind coee for a perfect brew.

Adding Water and Ground Coee

1 Lift and open the lter basket lid. For your convenience,

you can lift out the removable lter basket.

2 Place a 10–12 cup paper cone-style lter or a permanent

lter into the removable lter basket. (Figure 2)

NOTE: If using paper lters, it is important that the sides of the lter t ush against the side of the lter basket. If lter collapse occurs, dampen the lter before placing in the lter basket and adding ground coee and water.

3 Add the desired amount of coee and gently shake to

level the coee. See the Suggested Coee Measurement Chart.

4 Be sure the lter is properly centered and all the way down in the lter basket. 5 Fill the decanter with cold, fresh water to the desired capacity

(1 cup equals 5 ounces). For easy and accurate lling, the water markings on the glass decanter show the amount of water needed to make the corresponding desired number of cups. The amount of coee brewed will always be slightly less than the amount of water poured in the water reservoir. This is due to the minimum absorption of water by the coee grounds.

6 Pour the water into the water reservoir. Do not ll past the “MAX line” or water will

ow out of the overll hole in the back of the water reservoir. Close the lid and place the empty decanter onto the warming plate.

NOTE: Make sure the decanter is fully placed on the warming plate or the water and the grounds will overow from the lter basket. An overow may cause personal injury or damage to property.

CAUTION! To reduce the risk of damaging the decanter and/or the risk of personal injury, do not add cold water to the decanter if the decanter is already hot. Allow the decanter to cool before using.

BREWING COFFEE NOW

1 After completing the steps in the “Adding Water and

Coee” section and with the decanter and the lter basket securely in place, turn the coeemaker on.

For Programmable models: Press the ON/OFF Button to begin the brewing cycle. The red indicator light will turn on to signal that the coeemaker is brewing. When the brewing cycle is complete, the coeemaker switches over to the warming mode. Your coeemaker will keep your coee hot for 2 hours, then automatically shut o.While the coee is brewing, the Pause ’n Serve feature allows you to sneak a cup of coee from the decanter. Replace the decanter on the warming plate within

30 seconds to prevent overow and possible injury.

To turn the coeemaker o, push the OFF button. CAUTION! If the brew basket overows or fails to empty into the decanter, do not open the

brew basket. Turn o the coeemaker. Unplug the coeemaker and wait for the contents to cool before handling.

2 After the used coee grounds have cooled, carefully open the lter basket and

discard them.

3 Make sure the decanter is empty before starting to brew coee again. 4 Be sure to turn your coeemaker o when no longer using it.

Brewing coee later

1 You must rst set the time for when you would like the coeemaker to begin

brewing your coee as described in “Setting the Clock and the Delay Brew Timer” section.

2 Prepare your coeemaker as described in “Adding Water and Ground Coee” section. 3 To activate DELAY BREW and program your coeemaker to brew coee at a

later time, press the AUTO button. The AUTO indicator light will illuminate. The coeemaker is now set to automatically brew coee at the pre-set later time.

4 At the pre-set time, the red indicator light will turn on and the Auto indicator will

turn o, indicating the brewing has started.

5 The coeemaker warming plate will keep your coee hot for 2 hours and then will

automatically turn o.

As a safety feature,

your coeemaker will NOT start again automatically the next day. If you want your coee to brew at the same time the following day, simply add a new lter, coee and water and set DELAY BREW, by repeating

Steps 2 and 3 above.

To cancel DELAY BREW: Press the AUTO button. The DELAY BREW green indicator light

will turn o.

CLEANING AND MAINTAINING

Daily Cleaning

Always unplug the coeemaker and allow to cool before cleaning. Remove the lter basket, permanent lter (not included on all models), decanter and

decanter lid and wash them in a solution of hot water and mild liquid soap.

Never use abrasive cleansers, steel wool pads or other abrasive materials. Dishwasher top rack safe parts: glass decanter and lid, lter basket and permanent lter.

CAUTION! Never immerse the coeemaker itself in water, in any other liquid or place in

the dishwasher.

Regular Cleaning and Maintenance

Decalcifying your Oster® Coeemaker

Minerals (calcium) found in water will leave deposits in your coeemaker and will aect it. It’s recommended that you regularly remove these deposits by using vinegar.

1 Pour 4 cups or 20 . oz. of undiluted, white household vinegar into the

water reservoir.

2 Place an empty 10–12 cup basket-style paper lter or permanent lter into

the lter basket and close reservoir lid.

3 Place the empty decanter back in the unit, centered on the warming plate. 4 Brew three cups of cleaning solution through the coeemaker. 5 Turn the coeemaker o and let stand for 30 minutes. 6 Run the remainder of the cleaning solution through the coeemaker. 7 Discard the cleaning solution and rinse the decanter thoroughly with clean water. 8 Fill the water reservoir with clean, fresh water. 9 Place the empty decanter back on the coeemaker, centered on the warming plate. 10 Remove and discard the paper lter used during the cleaning cycle. If a MR. COFFEE®

permanent lter was used during cleaning, remove it and rinse it thoroughly before replacing it in the lter basket.

11 Begin brewing and allow the full brew cycle to complete. 12 Repeat Steps 8 through 11 one more time.

Your coeemaker is now clean and ready to brew the next pot of delicious, hot coee!

Cleaning the Decanter:

Hard water can leave a whitish stain on the decanter, and coee may then turn this stain brown.

To remove decanter stains:

1 Fill the decanter with a solution of equal parts water and vinegar and let the solution

stand in the decanter for approximately 20 minutes.

2 Discard the solution, then wash and rinse the decanter.

Do not use harsh abrasive cleaners that may scratch the decanter, scratches may cause the decanter to break.

NOTE: Do not place thermal carafe in the dishwasher.

1 YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY

Sunbeam Products, Inc. doing business as Jarden Consumer Solutions or if in Canada, Sunbeam Corporation (Canada) Limited doing business as Jarden Consumer Solutions (collectively “JCS”) warrants that for a period of one year from the date of purchase, this product will be free from defects in material and workmanship. JCS, at its option, will repair or replace this product or any component of the product found to be defective during the warranty period. Replacement will be made with a new or remanufactured product or component. If the product is no longer available, replacement may be made with a similar product of equal or greater value. This is your exclusive warranty. Do NOT attempt to repair or adjust any electrical or mechanical functions on this product. Doing so will void this warranty.

This warranty is valid for the original retail purchaser from the date of initial retail purchase and is not transferable. Keep the original sales receipt. Proof of purchase is required to obtain warranty performance. JCS dealers, service centers, or retail stores selling JCS products do not have the right to alter, modify or any way change the terms and conditions of this warranty.

This warranty does not cover normal wear of parts or damage resulting from any of the following: negligent use or misuse of the product, use on improper voltage or current, use contrary to the operating instructions, disassembly, repair or alteration by anyone other than JCS or an authorized JCS service center. INSTRUccIONES ESPEcIAlES SOBRE

El cORDEl ElÉcTRIcO

1. Se provee un cordel eléctrico corto para disminuir los riesgos de que una persona o mascota se pudieran enredar o tropezar con un cordel más largo.

2. Se puede adquirir y utilizar una extensión eléctrica si se usa con precaución.

3. Si se utiliza una extensión eléctrica, la calicación eléctrica rotulada de la extensión debe ser de al menos 10 amperios y 120 voltios. El cordel extendido resultante debe acomodarse para que no cuelgue del borde de un mostrador o mesa donde pueda ser tirado por niños o donde se pueda tropezar con él accidentalmente.

4. Esta unidad cuenta con un enchufe polarizado (uno de sus contactos es más ancho que el otro). Para disminuir el riesgo de una descarga eléctrica, este enchufe sólo podrá penetrar en un tomacorriente polarizado. Si el enchufe no penetra completamente en el tomacorriente, inviértalo. Si aún no se puede enchufar, comuníquese con un electricista autorizado. No modique el enchufe de manera alguna.

5. Usted puede ajustar el largo del cordel eléctrico de manera que sea de la longitud precisa que usted desee. Para aumentar el largo del cordel eléctrico: agarre el cordel eléctrico (no el enchufe) y hálelo hacia arriba de su hendidura con delicadeza, retirándolo de la cafetera. Para disminuir el largo del cordel eléctrico: agarre el cordel eléctrico (no el enchufe) y hálelo hacia arriba de su hendidura, insertándolo con delicadeza en la cafetera. Fije el cordel en la hendidura cuando termine.

CARACTERÍSTICAS Y VENTAJAS DE LA CAFETERA

COMO

Su nueva cafetera Oster® tiene las siguientes características:

• Capacidad – 12 tazas – Modelo con jarra de vidrio

• Canastilla de preparación con canastilla de ltro desmontable – La canastilla del

ltro se puede sacar para limpiarla y llenarla fácil y rápidamente.

• Pausa para servir – ¿No puede esperar a que termine de prepararse todo el café? La

función pausa para servir le permite servir una taza de café por 30 segundos mientras la cafetera todavía está preparando el café. Quite con cuidado la jarra y la función pausa para servir se activará automáticamente, deteniendo temporalmente el ujo de café hacia la jarra.

• Placa térmica antiadherente – Esta característica le permite mantener caliente

el café después de prepararlo. La propiedad antiadherente evita que la jarra se pegue a la supercie de la placa térmica

• Luz indicadora de encendido/apagado – Le permite saber cuándo está encendida

su cafetera.

• Funciones de control programables adicionales: – Reloj – El reloj LED sirve como un reloj de cocción y le permite establecer la

función preparación retardada.

– Preparación retardada – ¿Le gustaría levantarse con una jarra de café recién

preparado? El temporizador le permite programar cuándo le gustaría que la cafetera prepare automáticamente su café, hasta con 24 horas de anticipación.

– Botón Aroma – Preparación regular o fuerte. Ajuste el tiempo para preparar un

café con un sabor más fuerte.

– Apagado automático en dos horas – Esta función de seguridad mantiene

su café caliente por dos horas después de prepararlo y luego se apaga automáticamente.

NOTA: Si usted ha seleccionado alguna de las funciones de operación y hay una pérdida de corriente, la cafetera funcionará de acuerdo a la última operación seleccionada si la corriente se restablece dentro de un lapso de 10 segundos

Antes de usar su cafetera Oster®

Asegúrese de que su primera taza de café sea la mejor posible limpiando su cafetera Oster® antes de usarla por primera vez. Sólo siga estos sencillos pasos:

• Lave la jarra, la tapa de la jarra y la canastilla del ltro con una mezcla de agua y

detergente suave. Enjuáguelas completamente (consulte el diagrama de partes de la lista anterior).

• Vuelva a colocar las partes y cierre la tapa. Luego prepare un ciclo sólo con agua, sin

agregar café ni ltro.

• Cuando se termine de preparar, apague su cafetera, deseche el agua de la jarra y

enjuague la jarra, la tapa de la jarra y la canastilla del ltro.

Ahora su cafetera está lista para usarse. ¡Disfrútela!

PROGRAMACIÓN DEL RELOJ Y EL TIEMPO DE PREPARACIÓN RETARDADA

Sólo para modelos programables

Para programar el reloj:

1 Enchufe el cable de la corriente en un tomacorriente

estándar.

2 Presione los botones HOUR (HORA) Y MINUTE (MINUTOS)

hasta que coincidan con la hora actual. El indicador AM/ PM se iluminará a la izquierda de la pantalla.

¡Ahora el reloj está programado!

Para establecer la hora de preparación retardada:

Después de programar el reloj, sólo presione el botón PROGRAM (PROGRAMAR) (Figura 1), y programe la hora de preparación con los botones HOUR y MINUTE. El indicador AM/PM se encenderá en la pantalla del reloj.

¡Ahora está programado la hora de preparación retardada!

NOTA: Para activar el ciclo PREPARACIÓN RETARDADA, consulte la sección “Preparación retardada del café”.

NOTA: Después de unos tres segundos se mostrará la hora normal. Para revisar la hora programada, presione el botón PROGRAM. La pantalla mostrará la hora de preparación de café que usted ha programado.

PREPARACIÓN PARA SU USO

Selección y medición de café en grano

Para mejores resultados, use una cuchara al ras como medida para el café en grano. Para una preparación perfecta, use café con molido medio.

Agregar agua y café en grano

1 Levante y abra la tapa de la canastilla del ltro. Para su

comodidad, puede quitar la canastilla desmontable del ltro.

2 Coloque un ltro para café tipo cono para 10 a 12 tazas

o un ltro permanente en la canastilla desmontable del ltro. (Figura 2)

NO TA: Si usa ltros de papel, es importante que los lados del ltro se ajusten exactamente contra las paredes de la canastilla del ltro. Si el ltro se dobla, humedézcalo antes de colocarlo en la canastilla y agregar el café en grano y el agua.

3 Agregue la cantidad deseada de café y sacuda un poco para nivelarlo. Consulte la

tabla de medición de café sugerida.

4 Compruebe que el ltro esté bien centrado y asentado en el fondo de la canastilla. 5 Llene la jarra con la cantidad deseada de agua fresca (1 taza equivale a 5 onzas). Para

un llenado correcto y sencillo, la jarra de vidrio tiene marcas que muestran la cantidad necesaria de agua para preparar el número deseado de tazas. La cantidad de café preparado siempre será un poco menor a la medida de agua vertida en el depósito. Esto se debe a que los granos de café absorben una cantidad mínima de agua.

6 Vierta el agua en el depósito de agua. No pase la marca “MAX line”, pues el agua saldrá

por el oricio de sobrellenado de la parte posterior del depósito de agua. Cierre la tapa y coloque la jarra vacía en la placa térmica.

NO TA: Compruebe que la jarra esté bien colocada en la placa térmica, de lo contrario, el agua y los granos se saldrán de la canastilla del ltro. Esto puede provocar lesiones o daños materiales.

¡PRECAUCIÓN! Para disminuir el riesgo de dañar la jarra o de lesionarse, no añada agua fría a la jarra si ésta se encuentra caliente. Deje que la jarra se enfríe antes de usarla.

AHORA PREPARE SU CAFÉ

1 Después de completar los pasos indicados en la sección

“Añadir agua y café”, y con la jarra y la canastilla del ltro bien colocados en su sitio, encienda la cafetera.

Para modelos programables: Presione el botón ON/OFF para empezar el ciclo de preparación. El indicador rojo se iluminará para señalar que la cafetera está trabajando. Cuando se termine el ciclo de preparación, la cafetera cambiará al modo de calentamiento. Su cafetera mantendrá el café caliente durante dos horas, luego se apagará automáticamente. Mientras el café se está preparando, la función pausa para servir, le permite servirse una taza de café de la jarra. Vuelva a colocar la jarra en

la placa térmica antes de 30 segundos para prevenir un desborde y posibles lesiones.

Para apagar la cafetera, presione el botón OFF. ¡PRECAUCIÓN! Si la canastilla del ltro se desborda o no se vacía en la jarra, no levante la

tapa de la canastilla. Apague la cafetera. Desconéctela y espera hasta que el contenido se enfríe antes de manejarla.

2 Después de que los granos de café se hayan enfriado, abra con cuidado la canastilla

del ltro y deseche el ltro.

3 Compruebe que la jarra está vacía antes de empezar a preparar café de nuevo. 4 Asegúrese de apagar su cafetera cuando no la vaya a usar.

Preparación retardada de café

1 Primero debe establecer la hora en la que desea que su cafetera comience a preparar

su café según se describe en la sección “Programación del reloj y e tiempo de preparación retardada”.

2 Prepare su cafetera como se indica en la sección “Añadir agua y café en grano”. 3 Para activar PREPARACIÓN RETARDADA y programar su cafetera para preparar café

en una hora preestablecida, presione el botón AUTO. La luz indicadora AUTO se iluminará. La cafetera está ahora programada para preparar automáticamente café a la hora preestablecida.

4 A la hora preestablecida, la luz indicadora roja se encenderá y el indicador Auto se

apagará, lo que indica que ha empezado la preparación del café.

5 La placa térmica de la cafetera mantendrá su café caliente por dos horas y luego se

apagará automáticamente

AComo función de seguridad, su cafetera NO preparará café a la misma hora el

siguiente día a menos que la vuelva a programar. Si desea que su café se prepare a la misma hora el siguiente día, sólo añada un nuevo ltro, café y agua y programe PREPARACIÓN RETARDADA, repitiendo los pasos 2 y 3 indicados arriba.

Para cancelar la PREPARACIÓN RETARDADA: Presione el botón AUTO. La luz indicadora verde PREPARACIÓN RETARDADA se apagará.

LIMPIEZA Y MANTENIMIENTO

Limpieza Diaria

Siempre apague, desconecte y permita que la cafetera se enfríe antes de limpiar Saque la canasta del ltro, el ltro permanente (no está incluido con todos los modelos),

la jarra y la tapa de la jarra y lávelos en una solución de agua caliente y detergente líquido suave.

Nunca utilice polvos limpiadores, bras metálicas o cualquier otro material abrasivo. La jarra de vidrio y su tapa, la canasta de colar, el ltro permanente y la regadera de acero inoxidable sí se pueden lavar en el escurridor superior del lavaplatos, pero no así el disco del ltro de agua.

¡ADVERTENCIA! Nunca sumerja la cafetera en sí en agua ni en ningún otro líquido, ni la ponga en el lavaplatos.

Limpieza y Mantenimiento Rutinarios

Cómo descalcicar su cafetera Oster®

Los minerales (calcio) que se encuentran en el agua dejarán depósitos en su cafetera y la afectarán. Se recomienda que elimine regularmente estos depósitos usando vinagre.

1 Vierta 4 tazas o 20 onzas de vinagre blanco casero sin diluir en el depósito de agua. 2 Ponga un ltro de papel tipo canasta para 10 a 12 tazas o un ltro permanente en la

canastilla del ltro y cierre la tapa del depósito.

3 Ponga la jarra vacía nuevamente en la unidad, centrada sobre la placa de

calentamiento.

4 Haga funcionar la cafetera y llene 4 tazas con solución de limpieza. 5 Apague la cafetera y déjela reposar por 30 minutos. 6 Haga funcionar la cafetera con el resto de la solución de limpieza. 7 Deseche la solución de limpieza y limpie la jarra completamente con agua limpia. 8 Llene el depósito de agua con agua limpia y fresca. 9 Ponga la jarra vacía nuevamente en la cafetera, centrada sobre la placa de

calentamiento.

10 Retire y deseche el ltro de papel utilizado durante el ciclo de limpieza. Si durante

la operación de limpieza se utilizó un ltro permanente MR. COFFEE®, retírelo y enjuáguelo completamente antes de ponerlo en el portaltro.

11 Ponga la unidad en marcha y deje que se realice un ciclo de preparación completo. 12 Repita una vez más los pasos 8 a 11.

Ahora, su cafetera está limpia y en condiciones de preparar el más delicioso café caliente.

Para eliminar las manchas en la jarra:

1 Llene la jarra con una solución de partes iguales de agua y vinagre y deje la solución

dentro de la jarra por unos 20 minutos. 2 Deseche la solución y luego lave y enjuague la jarra. No utilice limpiadores altamente abrasivos, pues podrían rayar la jarra y éste podría

entonces romperse. NOTA: No coloque la jarra térmica en el lavavajillas.

SOLUCIÓN DE LOS PROBLEMAS DE SU CAFETERA

Su cafetera Oster® se diseñó minuciosamente para darle por muchos años un servicio sin presentar problemas. En el caso poco probable de que su nueva cafetera no funcione adecuadamente, revise por favor los siguientes problemas potenciales y pruebe los pasos recomendados ANTES de llamar a un Centro de Servicio Autorizado Oster.
