Your Optimus CD-3790 Portable Com­pact Disc Player uses the latest digital audio technology to deliver the clean, crisp sound of compact discs. Y ou can connect the CD player to your home au­dio or autosound system, or connect a pair of stereo headphones for portable, private listening.

Three Power Sources — let you power your CD player from two standard or re­chargeable nickel-cadmium AA batter­ies, your vehicle’s battery using the supplied DC adapter, or standard AC power using an optional AC adapter.
Important: You need a pair of stereo headphones, earphones, or amplified speakers, or a home audio or autosound system to use your CD player. Your lo­cal RadioShack store carries a complete line of headphones, earphones, speak­ers, and audio systems.

POWERING THE CD PLAYER
You can power your CD player from any of these sources:
• two AA alkaline batteries (not sup­plied)
• two rechargeable AA nickel­cadmium batteries (not supplied)
• vehicle battery power using the sup­plied DC adapter
• standard AC power using an AC adapter (not supplied)

USING BATTERIES
You can power your CD pla yer from t wo AA alkaline batteries (such as Ra­dioShack Cat. No. 23-552) or two re­chargeable AA nickel-cadmium bat­teries (such as Cat. No. 23-125).
Cautions
• Always use fresh, or freshly
:
charged, batteries of the required size and recommended type.
Follow these steps to install the batter­ies.
1. Press down on the b attery compart­ment cover and slide it in the direc­tion of the arrow on the cover, then lift the cover.
Caution:
cover is attached to the CD player. Do not try to remove it.
2. Put two AA alkaline batteries or two AA nickel-cadmium batteries in the battery compartment, as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and –) marked inside.
Note
with nickel-cadmium batteries, you need to charge them, either in an external battery charger (such as Cat. No. 23-134) or in the CD player (see “Recharging Nickel-Cadmium Batteries” on Page 7).

• Do not mix old and new batteries, different types of batteries (stan­dard, alkaline, or rechargeable nickel-cadmium), or rechargeable batteries of different capacities.

3. Close the battery compartment cover.
When flashes on the display, the sound distorts, or the volume weakens, replace or recharge the batteries.

Cautions:
• If you will not be using the CD player with battery power for more than a month, or if y ou pl an t o use only AC or DC power, remove the batteries.
• Dispose of old batteries promptly and properly.
Recharging Nickel-Cadmium Batteries
If you connect the supplied DC adapter (see “Using Vehicle Battery Power” on Page 8) or an AC adapter (see “Using AC Power” on Page 9) to the CD player, you can set the CD player to charge nickel-cadmium batteries while they are inside the CD player’ s battery compart­ment.
Cautions:
• Use only the supplied DC adapter or an AC adapter that meets the speci­fications in “Using AC Power” on Page 9 to recharge the batteries in the CD player. Other adapters could damage your CD player or th e bat­teries.
• Do not use the CD player or open the CD compartment cover while you are charging nickel-cadmium batteries.
Follow these steps to charge nickel­cadmium batteries in the CD player.
1. Connect an AC adapter or the sup­plied DC adapter to your CD player (see “Using AC Power” on Page 9 or “Using Vehicle Battery Power” on Page8).
2. With rechargeable batteries in­stalled and the CD compartment cover closed, press

It takes about 3 hours to charge new or fully discharged nickel­cadmium batteries. Subsequent charges take 2–3 hours.
Note: During recharging, the auto power on/off feature is disabled.
3. When the batteries are fully charged, the CD player automati­cally stops charging them and turns off. Disconnect the AC or DC adapter.

Important: Your CD player is capable of using nickel-cadmium batteries. At the end of the batteries’ useful life, they must be recycled or disposed of proper­ly. Contact your local, county, or state hazardous waste management authori­ties for information on recycling or dis­posal programs in your area. Some options that might be available are: mu­nicipal curbside collection, drop-off box­es at retailers such as your local RadioShack store, recycling collection centers, and mail-back programs.
USING V EHICLE BATTERY POWER
You can power the CD player from y our vehicle’s battery power with the supplied DC adapter.
Cautions:
• The supplied DC adapter supplies 6 volts and delivers at least 500 milli­amps. Its center tip is set to positive, and its plug correctly fits the CD player’s adapter that does not meet these specifications could d ama ge t he CD player or the DC adapter.
