POWER SOURCES
You can power your CD player from:
• Two AA batteries
• Standard AC power, using an AC adapter
• A vehicle’s battery power, using a DC adapter

Two nickel-cadmium batteries
No. 11672508, available through your local RadioShack store).
You can charge these batteries while they are in th e battery compartment using an AC or DC adapter. (See “Using AC Power” on Page 7 or “Using Vehicle Battery Power” on Page 8.)
Two standard AA rechar nickel-cadmium batteries
as Cat. No. 23-125). Your CD player does not recharge

nals on the rechargeable batteries clean. Use a cotton swab dipped in alcohol to clean the terminals.
• Under normal usage conditions, nickel-cadmium batteries can be recharged about 500 times.

• Fully discharge the batteries occasionally by playing the CD player until it no longer plays. Then fully recharge the batteries. This helps restore the batteries’ full charging capacity.
• Avoid charging the batteries in a hot environment (above 113°F) as this can permanently reduce the batteries’ charging capacity.
Caution: Do not overcharge the batteries. Overcharging can significantly reduce the batteries’ useful life.
Important: Th is CD player is c apable of using rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries. At the end of the batteries’ useful life, they must be recycled or disposed of properly. Contact your local, county, or state hazardous waste management authorities for information on recycling or d isposal program s in your area. Some options that might be available are: municipal curb-side collection, drop-off boxes at retailers such as your local RadioShack store, recycling collection centers, and mail back programs.
Installing Batteries
1. Press down on the battery compartment cover and slide it away from the CD player, then lift the cover.
2. Place two AA batteries in the compartment as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and –) marked inside.
3. Close the battery compartment cover.
Replace or recharge the batteries when flashes on the display, the sound distorts, or the volume weakens.
Cautions:
• Always dispose of old batteries promptly and properly; do not burn or bury them.
• If you do no t plan to use the CD player for a month or more, remove and store the batteries.
• Never leave dead, old, or weak batteries in the CD player. Batteries can leak chemicals that corrode or damage electronic circuits.
6
USING AC POWER
You can power the CD play er from a standard AC outlet using an AC adapter, such as Cat. No. 273-1664.
Cautions:
• You must use an AC adapter that supplies 6 volts, and delivers at least 400 milliamps (CD-3620) or 500 milliamps (CD-3640). Its center tip must be set to positive, and its barrel pl u g must co rre ctly fit th e CD player’s recommended adapter meets these specifications. Using an adapter that does no t meet these specifications could damage the CD player or the adapter .
• When you finish using the AC adapter, disconnect it from the AC outlet first, then unplug it from the CD player.

jack.
4. Plug the other end of the adapter into a standard AC outlet.
• Battery power disconnects when you connect an AC adapter to the CD player unless you are using special rechargeable nickelcadmium batteries (see “Using Batteries” on Page 5). If you plan to use the CD player with AC power for an extended period of time (8 hours or more), remove the special nickel-cadmium batteries to prevent overcharging.
7
USING VEHICLE BATTERY POWER
You can power your CD player from your vehicle’s battery using a DC adapter, such as Cat. No. 273-1801.
Cautions:
• You must use a DC adapter that supplies 6 volts and delivers at least 500 milliam ps. Its center tip must be set to positive, and its barrel plug must correctly fit the CD player’s recommended adapter meets these specifications. Using an adapter that does no t meet these specifications can damage the CD player or the adapter.
• Disconnect the adapter from the cigarette-lighter socket when you are not using it, to prevent the vehicle’s battery from being drained.
• Always disconnect the adapter from the cigarette-lighter socket before you unplug it from the CD player.
• If you park your vehicle in the sun, temperatures inside can easily reach levels that could damage your CD player and your CDs. To prevent heat damage, avoid leaving your CD player or CDs in your vehicle.
