INTRODUCTION
The speakers also transform your por­table CD player or personal cassette player into a complete music system. The speakers are com pat ible with any audio source that has a

POWER SOURCES
You can power your speakers from in­ternal batteries, standard AC power, or vehicle battery power.
Using Batteries
You can power the speakers from eight C batteries (four in each speak­er). For the best performance, we rec­ommend alkaline batteries, such as RadioShack Cat. No. 23-651.
1. Press the tab on each speaker’s battery compartment cover, then lift off the cover.
2. Put four batteries into each speaker’s compartment, as indi­cated by the polarity symbols (+ and –) marked inside the compart­ment.

Notes:
• If you will not be using t he spea k­ers for a week or more, or if you will be using only AC or vehicle battery power, remove the batter­ies from each speaker.
• If the speakers’ sound weakens or distorts, or the power indicator dims during use, replace all the batteries in both speakers.
Caution: Always dispose of old bat­teries promptly and properly.
Using AC Power
You can power your speakers from a standard AC outlet using a 12-volt AC adapter (not supplied), such as Ra­dioShack Cat. No. 273-1653.
Cautions:
• The recommended adapter sup­plies 12 volts DC power and deliv­ers at least 600 milliamps. Its center tip can be set to positive, and its plug properly fits the right speaker’s adapter that does no t meet these specifications could damage the speaker or the adapter.

Using Vehicle Battery Power
You can power the speakers from your vehicle’s cigarette-lighter socket using a DC adapter (not supplied), such as RadioShack Cat. No. 270-
1562.
Cautions:
• The recommended adapter sup­plies 12 volts DC power and deliv­ers at least 600 milliamps. Its center tip can be set to positive, and its plug properly fits the right speaker’s adapter that does no t meet these specifications could damage the speaker or the adapter.

OPERATION
Follow these steps to operate th e am­plified speakers.

MAINTENANCE
Your Optimus AMX-10 Stereo Amplified Speakers are an ex ample of superior de­sign and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help you care for the speak­ers so you can enjoy them for years.
Keep the speakers dry. If they get wet, wipe them dry immediately. Liquids might contain minerals that can corrode the electronic cir­cuits.
Use and store the speakers only in normal temperature environ­ments. Temperature extrem es can shorten t he life of electronic de­vices, damage batteries, and distort or melt plastic parts.
Keep the speakers away from dust and dirt, which can cause prema­ture wear of parts.
Handle the speakers gently a nd carefully. Dropping them can dam­age the circuit boards and can cause the speakers to work improper­ly.
Wipe the speakers with a damp cloth occasionally to keep them look-

ing new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong de­tergents to clean the speakers.
Modifying or tampering with the spea kers’ internal components can caus e a mal­function and might invalidate the warranty. If your speakers are not performing as they should, take them to your RadioShack store for assistance.
