I. General Information
1. Preface
This receiver has powerful single chip processor: STi5518. It is fully compliant with MPEG-2 and DVB-T standards. It can receive terrestrial digital TV signals transmitted at the rate of 3.7~23 .8Mb/S on the specific frequencies within the VHF or UHF band. The available tran smission channel bandwidths are: 7MHz and 8MHz. (bit rate pay­load transmitted in the 8MHz channel from 4.98 to 31.67 Mbit/S). It can memorize program parameters wh en power-off. The features of Electronic Program Guide dis­play and auto search make it convenient to receive terrestrial digital TV signal. It provid es the enhanced OSD Multi-language menus. Equipped with the latest technol­ogy a nd design, the receiver is ensured to offer high reliability and stability.

4. General Operation of the Receiver
Throughout this manual you will find that the everyday operation of your receiver is based on a series of user friendly on screen display and menus. These menus will help yo u get the most from your STB, guiding you from installation, channel manager, viewing to many other functions. All functions can be carried out using the buttons on the RCU, and some of the functions can also be carried out using the buttons o n the front panel. Please be awa re that new software may change the functionality of the receiver. Should you experience any difficulties with the operation of your unit, please consult the relevant section of this manual, including the Problem Shooting, or alternatively call your dealer or a customer service adviser.

This section explains the installation of the receiver. Refer to the manuals supplied with the equipment for the installation of outdoor equipment such as the antenna. When a dding new equipment, be sure to refer to the related parts of the manual for the installation.

NOTE: When usi ng the receiver for the first time, turn the receiver to factory status before operation .This can be done as follows: Press menu key on the RCU to run the Main M enu menu where you can select Installation item by using key and press OK key to enter into Instalaltion menu. In Installation Menu, select Reset item and press OK key. Then a message box will be displayed on the screen. Press OK key to resume the default.

Menu Inf ormation
Under the non-menu mode, pressi ng MENU key will dis­play the Main Menu. This menu consists of four menu options as shown below.

Use the keys to move up or down from one item to another. The corresponding sub menu wi ll be displayed on the screen as long as OK key is pressed on the se­lected item. To escape the menu s ystem at anytime, press EXIT or
MENU key on the RCU.
1. Installation
use keys to highlight Installation item in the Main Menu and press OK key. Then Installation menu will be
displayed on the screen.
1.1 Auto Search
The program search can be performed in two different ways: Auto Search and Manual Search. For beginner s, Auto Search is the best choice. First use keys to select Auto Search item in the Installation menu. Once OK key is pressed at this item, system will enter into Search- ing window and start sea rching automatically. In this mode, all RF channels prepared in the system will be searched one by one. Newly searched programs are automatical ly sorted into two different categories: TV and

Radio. After one and a half minutes, auto search is com­plete and all searche d program are loaded into the STB’s memory. During the searchi ng, press EXIT or MENU key to exit from the Searching window.
1.2 Manual Search
You can set parameters in Manual Search if you are famil­iar with relevant parameters. In this mode, only one RF Channe l, whose necessary parameters are set in Manual
Search menu by hand, can be searched. MUX: Press key to pop up a drop-down li st box where
you can select your desired option by using k eys. Select the option of your choice and press OK key, the box disappears and the value in Freq(kHz) varies your selection. In fact, Freq(KHz) has the same function as MUX, so you ca n set one between them randomly. Freq(KHz): The op erations are the same as those in MUX ab ove. Mode: By pressing keys, set this item to be 2K, 8K or Auto. Guar d: Available options are: 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32 and Auto. Press keys to select one of the availabl e alternatives. BandWidth: You have a choice o f 6M, 7M, 8M and Default. Press keys to select appropriate bandwidth. FTT: Press keys to select a mong the preprogrammed options, including FTT, CAS and All. Search : Once OK key is pressed, Searching window will be displayed on the screen. During this process, newly searched programs will be listed in two columns lab eled with TV or Rad io. Two dynamic bars reflecting the signal quality and the si ganl strength will also be displayed. Af­ter searching well, system will return to Manual Search menu automatically.

If there are items that you are not inte rested in, please set them to default or auto, Manual Search can also be per­formed successfull y. During the searching, EXIT or MENU key is used to exit from Searching win dow.
1.3 Reset
Select Reset item in the Installation menu and press OK key. Then a message box will be displayed on the screen. Press OK key to re sume the default. Note: After restoring default, all programs you have searched will be erased and all parameters will re­turn to the factory default. So, this operation is ap­plied only for special nece ssary situation.
2. Program Man age
This fea ture allows you to manage all the programs listed in the Program Edit window. On the left side of the Program Edit window, you can see the program list. On the right side, you can see relevant parame ters of current program such as Frequency, mode, guard and so on. Move cursor to the desired progra m by using key and pres s OK k ey, contents of selected program will be displayed on the back screen. Two color keys on the RCU ha s their correponding func­tion wh ich are described as follows:

How to make a favourite group
1. When you enter Program Manag e window, default fa­vourite list will be sh own on the screen as FAV1. By press­ing FAV key on the RCU, you can access the next favour- ite list.
2. Select your favourite program by pressing keys and press green colour key on the RCU. Then will be marked next to the selected prog ram name. If you want to
cancel this operation, press green colour key once again, then the mark will disappear.
How to edit the name o f the favourite group
Select the favourite list which needs to be renamed and press INFO key on the RCU to display a command box. Select your required character by u sing direction key on the RCU and press OK key. The n the selected character will be shown in the title bar at the top of the command box. To switch between capital and lowercase, please select Caps On comman d and press OK key on the RCU. Back command enables you to erase the unwa nted character in the title bar. The command box will disappear a nd the new name will be shown in the Program Manage win­dow instead of the old one after pressing OK key on the highlighted OK item.
How to edit the program name
Select the program n ame you want to operate and press RECALL key. Then the command box will be displayed on the screen. For further operation refer to the above specification.

This del eting command allows you to delete one or more unwante d programs permanently. First select the program,

3. System Setup
Select System Setup item in the Main Menu an d press OK key to pop up System Setup menu. If you want to
further operate some item included in this menu, use keys to select it and press OK key to enter the c orre­sponding sub menu.
3.1 OSD Setup
In OSD Setup menu, it includes transparency and lan­guage two items.
3.1.1 Transparency Setup By pressing OK key at Transparency item, Transpar-
ency Setup window will be di splayed on the screen. Colour: Press keys to select 1, 2 or 3. Transparency: The value ranges from 10% to 70% by
step 10%. The transparency of the menu that you have seen varies with your selection. After setting well, pres s EXIT or MENU key to exit from this windo w.
3.1.2 Language Setup
From here you can select the appropriate language for menu, audio an d subtitle. First highlight the item you want to operate by using keys and then press k eys to select your required

language. For audio language, you may give one of the preprogrammed languages the highest priori ty by choos­ing it as the first language. The rest may be ded uced by analogy. Press OK key to save your settings . EXIT and MENU keys are used to exit from the Language Setup wi ndow withou t saving.
3.2 TV Setting
This item gives you the access to TV Setting window. This menu consists of the following items: Screen Ty pe: Press keys to select the aspect ratio of the output video format among Auto, 16:9, 4:3 Letter and 4:3 Full. Banner Time: Whenever a new channel i s selected, an Info bar, which appears momentarily at the bottom edge of the screen, tell s you the information of current channel such as name, number, attribute and so on. Therefore this setting is to set the displaying time of the Info bar. RF Output: The re ceiver equipped with a RF modulator is able to modu late a program to a given UHF channel. The setting range is from 21 to 69. Press keys to select the chan nel number you want. RF Standard: Press keys to select RF standard among NTSC_M , PAL_B, PAL_I and PAL_DK. TV Type: Sel ect among PAL, NTSC and SECAM accord­ing to your TV type. Service List: Se lect between LCN Control and Normal.

3.3 Access
Select Access item in the System Setup menu and press OK key to displ ay Access window. Before you enter into
this menu, a four digital pin code is needed. The default pin code is 0000. Parental lock: You can prevent children or unau thorized people from watching programs here. Use key to pop up a drop-down parental rating value list.

Use keys to select your desired opti on and press OK key. Once the Parental is locked, whenever you watch the locked chann el, you should enter the PIN code. Receive lock: Press keys to select YES or NO. If YES is se lected, when the receiver is powered on, a small box for ente ring a password will be displayed on the screen after the startup OSD. Change Pin: Pressing key will display Change Pin command box. Once the ol d Pin you entered is right, this command box allows you to enter a ne w Pin to be used in
future as a parental lock. The default Pin is 0000.
3.4 Time Adju st
Move cursor to Ti me Adjust item in System Setup menu and p ress OK key, and then Time Adjust window will be diaplayed on the screen.

Local Time: The value in this item varies with what you have selected i n Time Zone item. Daylight saving time: The available options are Auto, Yes or NO. The de fault value is Auto. Time Zone: In order to displa y the local time correctly, it may be nece ssary to set a time offset indicating the differ­ence b etween local time and GMT. Here there are seven available options such as SA, WA, TAS, NT, NSW/ACT, VIC and QLD. Please use keys to select one among them. Timer Manager: Press keys to select Y ES or NO. If YES is selected, the timer will work. Start Time: Use numeric k eys to enter the start time when the receiver is turned on automatica lly. Turn off Time: Use numeric keys to enter the turn off time when the receiver is turned off automatically. Change CH Time : Use the numeric keys on the RCU to enter the desir ed time when the receiver switches fr om the chan nel being viewed to the channel specified by the channel number shown i n the Change CH No item. Change CH No: Your required channel number can be entered manually wi th the numeric keys on the RCU. After setting well, pres s EXIT or MENU key to exit from the Time Adjust window.

Fr om here, infor mation about this receiver such as Manufacture, Model, H/w Version and so on will be dis­played on this window.

4. Game
In Main Menu menu, move curs or to Game item and press OK key, and then Game menu will be displayed. The recei ver has provided two games for enjoyments such as Five Steon a nd Tetris. Use keys to sele ct desired game and press OK key to play. You can fully enjoy the games by referring to the prompt on the screen.
5. Shortcut Key Function
The basi c functions of your receiver for watching TV pro­gr am or listening to the radio are desc ribed as the follo wing.
5.1 Program Guide
By pressin g Guide key on the RCU, the EPG window will be displayed on the screen. Since this window can take the place of a TV guide managzine, you can know more info rmation about the current program or an upcoming pro­gram (up to seven days). You c an see a channel list on the left side, press keys to select a program. The video from the selected channel will always blend into the menu as an insert. The program guide also works in radio mode. To get detailed information about the selected channel, press yellow colour key on the RCU to run Pr ogram Detail window. In this window, a brief overvi ew on various programs is pro­vided along with the title of these programs. Blue colour key is used to display Weekly EPG window.
5.2 Program List
To s elect the desired channel in the program list, you should firstly display the Program list by directly press-

ing OK key o n the RCU at the non-menu mode. When you use keys to switch from one channel to another, the video from the selec ted channel will be displayed on the screen. RECALL key is also used to switch to the chan­nel that was previously viewed. In ord er to make it conven­ient to find your required program in the list, press red colour key on the RCU to sort all the programs in alpha­betical order. Switching between TV and radio programs is as ea sy as pressing TV/RADIO key on the RCU. The pro- gram list wil l disappear after pressing EXIT or MENU key.
5.3 Favourite List
Under the no n-menu mode, to display a favourite list press FAV key on the RCU. You can access the next favourite list when you press FAV key again. The method to group favo urite channels is explained in the 2. Program Manage.
5.4 Audio Select
Should a particular pro gram be available in more than one lang uage, under the non-menu mode, pressing AUDIO key on the RCU will display Audio Select menu, which allows you to select the appro priate audio language and track for the curre nt program.

5.5 Volume
To incre ase or decrease the volume, use keys either on the RCU or on the front panel when watching TV or listening to the radio.

5.6 Information
When watching a channel , just press key on the RCU to switch channel, a window that includes current program information such as RF channel, Mode,G uard, AutoPID and so on will appear for several seconds (Time can be set by referring to Banner time in 3.2 TV Setting). When watch ing a channel, press INFO key on the RCU to get a EPG ban ner that includes now program information, next program information, signal strength, attributes of current channel su ch as favour, lock and so on. For more detail s, press INFO key again to pop up a bigger textbox where you can use key to switch between now and next program details. When there is a lot of informa­tion text, use P+ /P- keys on the RCU to continue reading on the next info page. Press INFO key once again to re­turn to the normal view mode.
5.7 Subtitle
You can press SUB.T key on the RCU to open and close subtitle or closed caption on the screen only when the broadcaster has provided this service. Once you activate the pop up of any menu, the system will close subtitle or closed caption automatically.
5.8 Pause
When watchin g a channel, the video from the current chan­nel is frozen as soon as FREEZE key is pressed. Press
FREEZE key again to activate it.
5.9 Text
Press TEXT key on the RCU to open a teletex t page (if teletext is transmittted). Press TEXT key again to close it.

IV. Trouble Shooting
Note: If you cannot solve the problem by referring t o the above trouble shooting, please contact your local dealer.
Problem Possible Causes
What To Do
The display on the front panel does not light up.
Main cable is not connected.
Check that the main cable is plugged into power
socket. No sound and picture, but the front panel shows time.
The unit is in standby mode.
Press the key on the
RCU.
No sound or picture.
No signal or weak signal.
Check the cable
connections. Bad picture/ Blocking error.
Signal is too strong. Connect a signal attenuator
to the RF IN port. No picture appears on the TV screen.
The system is connected by SCART leads and TV is not in AV/EXT mode.
