A little over thirty years ago, the release of Betamax and
VHS revolutionized the world of home entertainment by
bringing prerecorded video content into the home.
Ten years later, the next breakthrough format,
Laserdisc, first made its way onto our screens. Fastforward to 1997, and the DVD format amazed us with its
visual clarity and portability.
Needless to say, we’ve witnessed some astonishing A/V
progress in a very short period of time. The launch of
the HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc formats in 2006
represents a quantum leap in recorded high-definition
media.
2006 also marks Onkyo’s 60th year in the A/V industry.
With our roots steeped in audio excellence and home
theater innovation, Onkyo looks forward to melding the
promise of high-definition technology with A/V
components that draw their strength from build quality,
proven expertise and emotive reproduction.

3 Significant Benefits
You Get from WRAT
2006-2007Home Theater Components
inhibit an amplifier’s transient response—the ability to respond to large
signal gains (e.g. explosions and musical finales)—and actually distort
sound at high frequencies. That’s why our engineers use a low negativefeedback design, with audiophile-grade, close-tolerance components at
critical points in the signal path, to achieve a frequency response out to
100 kHz. That means you can fully enjoy the sonic benefits from such
high-resolution formats as DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD as well as
your regular CDs and DVDs.
Benefit 2: Closed GroundLoop Circuits—so you’ll
enjoy greater maximum
volume without distortion
If an amplifier’s ground
potential (voltage) fluctuates
during playback of movie
soundtracks or musical
performances, you wind up
with unpleasant noise. In an
open-loop circuit design, all
circuits are connected to the
power supply via one loop. If
all circuits share the same loop
(like on many amplifiers), the noise multiplies exponentially. Onkyo’s
sophisticated closed-circuit design allows each circuit to go and return
directly to the power supply. This cancels any individual circuit noise, and
keeps the ground potential free of distortion.
Benefit 3: High Instantaneous-Current
Capability—so you’ll enjoy film
soundtracks with greater impact
Audio signals are very complex. After the
amplifier outputs such signals to a speaker, the
speaker itself accumulates energy. When the
speaker reflexes, it sends energy back to the
amplifier. The amplifier must immediately be
able to supply a large amount of high current to
cancel the speaker’s reflex energy, and
instantaneously send out the next signal. The
same high current is also necessary to handle
speaker impedance fluctuations, which on
occasion force an amplifier to provide four to six times its usual current
load. The instantaneous current capability of even Onkyo’s least
expensive WRAT receivers is far better than that of most conventional
units. This is because competing designs commonly have less than half
the current capability. The result? The high-current capability incorporated
into all Onkyo receivers means your receiver can deliver movie
soundtracks with theatre-like dynamics and clarity—so you’ll get the same
exciting sonic slam that you experienced in the cinema.
Benefit 1: Uncommonly
Low Negative-Feedback
Design—so you’ll enjoy
cleaner sound on
programme peaks
Although NFB (negative
feedback) is the most costeffective way to reduce noise
at lower frequencies, there’s a
sonic price to pay: larger
amounts of NFB severely
Net-Tune™
What is Net-Tune™?
Do you have MP3, WAV, or WMA files on your computer? Add new life to

American charts? How does instant access to radio stations around the
world sound to you? Well, it’s possible through the mini-revolution in the
music world called Internet radio. The process is simple. Hook up your
home network receiver to a router connected to your broadband modem
via a high-speed Ethernet cable. Press the Net Audio button on the front
of your receiver and you’ll be welcomed to a world of music in your home
through Internet radio.
Net-Tune™ Central
Your media distribution software. Up to now, you
may have looked upon your PC as a means of
sending e-mail, making spreadsheets and
playing the occasional game, but when it came to music, the sound was
second best. Now Onkyo can add astounding depth to your hard drive’s
MP3, WAV or WMA music files. Simply download Net-Tune™ Central to

Internet Radio
Perhaps you’ve been wondering how your kids
are getting radio reception from Asia. Or how your
flatmate always seems to find those great stations
you can’t find on the radio. What’s the secret? It’s not coming from your
local FM/AM tuner. It’s coming from the Internet. Even if you’re an old pro
at surfing the airwaves of cyberspace, the benefits of Internet radio will
continue to amaze you. No longer are you limited to local access. Now
you have the freedom of the kind of music you want to hear when you
want to hear it. The drawback? Until now this has been limited to the
audio playback capability of your computer and its speakers. We’re sure
you’ll agree with us when we say your music deserves more.

W
would seem wrong to define the TX-SR804E by only two
words—Power and Simplicity. Take power, at a rock-solid
175 watts per channel. It’s only a rating, but it’s something
completely different when you realize that the TX-SR804E is
built on Onkyo’s Wide Range Amplifier Technology. WRAT
provides a sound amplification framework that combines a
high instantaneous current capability with a distortionpreventing circuit design to channel power for the demanding
sound requirements of today’s high-definition movie sources.
Simplicity might not be a word that you associate with an A/V
receiver of this class, but with HDMI, that perception quickly
changes. HDMI is not only the most technologically advanced
transport available for delivering movies, music and gaming,
it’s also the most straightforward. Virtually any component can
be connected to the TX-SR804E, upconverted, and outputted
via a single HDMI cable. Just what you need to complement
your HD ready display.

2006-2007Home Theater Components
Analog versus digital audio--there seems to be
no end to this debate. However, there is one
thing that is sure--audio signals are often
tainted with unwanted noise in conventional
amplifiers. Specifically designed to enhance
the Pure Hi-Fi component range, Onkyo's
digital amplifier design employs PWM (Pulse
Width Modulation) amplification and adds its
exclusive VL (Vector Linear) technology to
mask the noise and smooth the spikes in audio
signals to reveal the subtlest nuances in
movies and music. Features like this make the
world of difference to quality hi-fi.

Integrated Digital Amplifier
he benefits of digital amplification have been recognized by the audio
T
industry for some time. With minimal power leakage, digital amplifiers can
achieve a power efficiency of up to 90%. Without the need for large heat sinks,
manufacturers can focus on introducing more compact, sleeker designs. By
considering the fundamentals of audio reproduction and accurate
analogue-to-digital conversion, Onkyo has introduced a better solution to
integrated digital amplifiers--the A-9755. Utilizing Onkyo’s own Vector Linear
(VL) Digital technology in conjunction with a Pure Stream Power Supply
concept (comprising two large transformers), the A-9755 represents a truly
unique approach to digital amplifier design.

igital amplification enables significant power efficiency savings and
D
supports smaller, more compact designs—obvious benefits for today’s
home lifestyles. With the A-9555 integrated digital amplifier, sound quality
takes precedence over all else. By using Onkyo’s exclusive Vector Linear (VL)
Digital technology to remove any spike noise before it introduces errors into the
inversion timing, it is possible to get a highly accurate analog-to-digital
conversion. Also, at the heart of the A-9555 is a Pure Stream Power Supply-essentially a large power transformer--that ensures that you always have the
on-demand power for the clarity and detail of a range of musical genres.

CS-515A
CD Receiver System
Separate Collection 2006-2007
ike its predecessor, the CS-515 CD receiver system
L
embodies an approach to sound—detailed, balanced and
spacious—that belies its size. The CD receiver itself exudes an
air of solidity, with its concave aluminum front panel. In the
engine room, audio quality is promoted with the inclusion of a
Wolfson® 192 kHz/24-bit DAC. The CS-515’s relative power
enlivens CD playback and gives your MP3 files an edge they’ve
been missing. It's improvement by increments for the receiver,
but a brand new direction for the D-N9BX 2-way, bass reflex
speakers that round out this system and make it a fine
investment for the home.

The latest in digital interface technology is here
and it goes by the name of HDMI (HighDefinition Multimedia Interface). This highbandwidth interface supports not only
remarkable amounts of uncompressed digital
video but audio as well. Up to 5 Gbps of data,
more than twice what’s needed for a highdefinition movie with surround sound, can be
handled with room for future requirements.
All this data is kept in the digital domain as there are no D/A or
A/D conversions needed to ensure the highest sound and
video quality available. Unparalleled amounts of compressed or
uncompressed digital audio and video—up to 5 Gbps of
data—can be handled with just one high-speed cable.
i.LINK™ Digital Audio Interface
(a.k.a. IEEE1394)
The reduction of up to six analogue cables to one single
digital cable capable of carrying multi-channel audio is here.
i.LINK (a.k.a. IEEE1394) provides the high-bandwidth, high-
resolution signal transfer of audio that multi-channel formats
like DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD have been waiting for. Even better,
content stays in the pure digital realm as there are no unnecessary D/A or
A/D conversions performed. Experience the pure digital multi-channel
music experience you’ve been waiting for.
Premium Digital
Philosophy
This philosophy represents Onkyo’s all-inclusive approach to building
digital components that incorporate our core technologies, high-quality
parts and a focus on performance. It’s all part of a comprehensive formula
that enables us to offer products recognized for audio excellence,
superior construction, a high level of reliability and ease of use.
2006-2007Glossary
192 kHz/24-Bit Audio
DACs
Performing at a full 192 kHz/24-bit level of resolution,
these state-of-the-art digital-to-analog converters
deliver audio performance that is second to none. They
boast a higher dynamic range than standard D/A
converters, and are virtually resistant to clock jitter --
which means you’ll enjoy the best performance
possible from DVD-Audio discs and Super Audio CDs and cleaner sound
from your regular DVDs and CDs.
CinemaFILTER™
The tonal balance of a film soundtrack can be edgy and bright when
played back over audio equipment in your home - this is because film
soundtracks are designed to be played back in large theaters, using
commercial equipment. Onkyo has developed its own solution that
restores the correct tonal balance of a movie soundtrack in the smaller
environs of your home theater.
DVD-Audio -- Unprecedented
Fidelity
DVD-Audio’s dataloss-free reproduction of 192 kHz/24-bit 2-channel
stereo or 96 kHz/24-bit 6-channel surround sound recreates music with
such detail and clarity, it sounds as if every recording is being played live
in your home. DVD-Audio can store 1,100 times more information per
second than a CD. And with a super-high frequency rate of 192,000
samples per second -- 4.3 times greater than an audio CD -- you get
256 times the resolution, a frequency response up to 96 kHz, and an
extraordinary dynamic range of up to 144 dB -- which translates into a
musical experience that goes beyond just listening!
OMF, made from a pure cotton weave to absorb
vibrations, was first developed to create a thick yet
rigid diaphragm that enables an extremely fast,
accurate response. The next stage saw the advent of
A-OMF, which incorporates a PEN (polyethylene
naphthalate) layer with a flexible cotton weave that makes speaker cones
even stronger and more resistant to heat. We then added an aramid layer
to create NEW A-OMF. The evolution has been taken a step further with
A-OMF Monocoque--essentially sharing the same material composition as
A-OMF but forming a single, continuous cover over the cone. All
diaphragm types achieve improved midrange clarity and imaging for an
astonishingly vivid, natural sound.
PAL/NTSC Veridic
Progressive Scan
Most DVDs are “progressive” -- meaning they produce video in complete
frames. But to be compatible with all TVs, the DVD signal must be
interlaced -- a method where the picture is split into two fields and then
blurred together to look like one. Progressive Scan, however, retrieves the
original progressive signal, and on such compatible displays as HDTV,
Plasma or digital TV and high-end projectors, “paints” all the visible lines
on the screen in a single pass -- so you’ll enjoy a scan-line-free image,
with spectacularly clear color, no motion artifacts, and details so sharp
they seem as if they’re etched onto the screen.
Analog Devices® 216 MHz/14Bit NSV™ Video DAC
A crucial factor in achieving clear, pristine digital video
playback is the video D/A converter in your DVD player. The
state-of-the-art 216 MHz/14-bit video DAC from Analog
Devices featured in the DV-SP1000E gives you the finest
artifact-free picture available. Features such as 4x oversampling and
Noise Shaped Video (NSV®) dramatically reduce noise interference to the
video signal, so you can enjoy even the most subtle of nuances in your
favorite movies.
Oplus® FlexScale™ Video
Scaling Capability
While HD-DVD with a native resolution of over NTSC
480p or PAL 576p is still on the drawing board, you
can experience HD level 720p and 1080i via
FlexScale™ video scaling capability from Oplus®.
Built in to the DV-SP1000E, and thus eliminating the
need for costly external scalers, FlexScale™ takes
NTSC 480i or PAL 576i DVDs beyond normal progressive scan players
and into the HD domain by enabling 720p or 1080i output through the
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) out on the rear.
Super Audio CD -- Precision
Clarity
Super Audio CD gives you the next step in the evolution of pristine sound.
All channels provide for up to 100 kHz frequency response and a
sampling rate of 2.822 MHz—that’s 64 times that of a regular CD! A
multichannel SACD disc can provide you with up to 6 channels of highresolution audio in addition to a regular CD layer for playback on any
existing CD player.
