Comfortably Delivering Video with HD Quality to the Latest HDTVs and A/V Receivers
With most entry-level DVD players, you’re only able to watch video playback in standard definition. If you’ve already invested in an HDTV or planning to in the near future, the DV-SP404 will take standard DVDs to high-definition quality by converting to 720p or 1080i through the High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI)on the rear. Also, with a 108 MHz/12-bit video DAC supporting progressive scan, you’re assured of spectacular viewing time-after-time. The DV-SP404 will do what you expect from higher-priced players, and it will also serve as a capable playback device for all your audio sources from your own CD library or computer-based digital files. Easily matched with AV receivers up to the high-end range, the DV-SP404 is a worthy addition to any home entertainment system.
HDMI Interface for High-Bandwidth Connectivity to HDTVs and AV Receivers
With the prices of HDTV falling to more affordable levels, the investment is becoming a more viable proposition. If you’re not quite ready to take the leap, it pays to keep your options open. The DV-SP404’s High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI)on the DV-SP404’s rear can output uncompressed video and every other format that this player is capable of. You can pass video directly to an HDMI-enable HDTV or pass audio to your AV receiver, including Dolby Digital and DTS signals. Since HDMI carries all channels on video and audio, there is only one cable to plug into any HDMI-enabled source and display device, which means no unsightly cable mess and a straightforward connection process.
Building Your Choice of Playback Options*
At the entry-level, the market is flooded with DVD players that offer very little except for decidedly average playback ability. The DV-SP404 not only offers quality DVD video playback, it also gives you a range of other options including video recorded to DVD±R/DVD±RW. Besides your standard audio CDs, the DV-SP404 will also play MP3 and WMA files burnt to CD-R and CD-RW (up to 10 hours or more on a single disc depending on the bit rate). The DV-SP404 will display your digital music file names on a TV display, and let you program a playlist of up to 24 songs from the same disc. Also, you can view your digital photos encoded in JPEG or EXIF2.2 (burnt to CD-R/CD-RW)in the enlarged frame of your TV display.
*Discs that have not been properly finalized may only be partially playable or not playable at all.
DivX®Enables Playback of Over 15,000 Online Video Titles
DivX is the world’s most popular video compression technology. This software compresses video from virtually any source to a size where it can be transferred over the internet without any reduction in visual quality. With this technology it’s possible to compress a VHS tape down to 1% of its original size or a DVD down to 10% of its original size. With the invent of video-on-demand systems over the internet, you are able to take a DivX movie created on your computer, pop it into the DivX certified DV-SP404 and enjoy it on the larger screen and higher resolution of your home theater or living room display.
PAL/NTSC Progressive Scan with 108 MHz/12-Bit Digital-to-Analog Processing
Progressive scan capability—the ability to produce video in complete frames with no motion artifacts, a scan-line-free image, vividly clear color and incredibly sharp detail—is no longer uncommon at the entry level. Even though the latest displays and TVs have built-in deinterlacers or “line doublers” that take your video source into the progressive realm, the downside is that they have to digitize the video signal resulting in the loss of picture resolution. With the DV-SP404’s 108 MHz/12-bit video DAC processing—a significant advantage at the entry level—you’re looking at a player that will deinterlace the signal in the digital domain rather than sending an analog signal to the display.
A Range of Audio Settings to Enhance Your Listening Experience
The DV-S404 gives you a range of audio settings for your personal preferences. The Dialog setting highlights the dialog over other background sounds. Also you have a suite of equalizer preferences for music—Rock, Pop, Live, Dance, Techno, Classic, Soft—that suit the dynamics of each style. Auto Dynamic Range enables you to bring up the quieter sounds when watching Dolby Digital DVDs at low volume. And if you don’t have the DV-SP404 connected with a surround system, the Virtual Surround function will deliver realistic surround sound from only two speakers.
