(OS-620 Series) for Energy Conservation, Estimation of R-Value (U-Value), Preventive Maintenance, Location of Insulation Defects
The OS-610 and OS-620 Series pyrometers from OMEGA contain a passive sensor which receives and measures (heat) radiation from an object. Since temperature is measured without contact, measurements are made rapidly (one second) so that thermal patterns and transient phenomena can be observed. Since heat is not removed from the measured object, accuracy is assured. Moving objects, dangerous materials and electrical components can be safely measured.
The OS-620 Series infrared energy meters have the additional feature of measuring heat loss (or gain) through walls and windows without

physical contact. These versatile units are designed to measure the temperature of building materials such as paper, plaster, ceramic, stone, concrete and glass that have emissivities between 0.9 and 1.0.
Net heat flow is measured inside the building by switching the instrument to BTU (or watts) and aiming at a wall or surface which represents the internal temperature of the building. The display is then “zeroed,” using the zero adjust control. Net heat flow in BTU (or watts) is then displayed when the instrument is aimed at an exterior wall or window.
