The Ripeness Tester is a hand-

of ripeness.

A. Select a n appropriate plunger t ip
for the commod ity to be tested.
See “ A GU ID E TO S ELE CT

B. Select a random sample of 10 to 15
fruits of uniform size and the same
temperature or 3% of the lot to be
sampled. For best results, suggest
one person should test the lot.

Then proceed with puncture test.
D. Zero adjustment
Hold the HFH80 vertically with the
plunger tip hanging in the air, the
reading on the display should be 0.
If not, depress the 'ZERO' key to
make the HFH80 tester display “0”.
E. Hold the fruit against a hard
s u r fac e a n d f o rce t he t i p
ve rt ic al ly i nt o the pulp at a
un if or m speed (take a bo ut 3
seconds).
F. The t ip sho uld c ons ist ent ly
penetrate to the b reak in t ip
diameter or t o th e sc ribed lin e on
some tips.
G. Reco
rd reading on the display.
H. If a maximum reading is needed,
just press the key 'MAX' till the
mark 'Max' shows on the display
before taking measurements.
The appearance of mark 'Max' is
controlled by the key 'MAX'.
I. To take the next measurement, just
depress the 'ZERO' key and repeat
steps from E to G.
J. Unit conversion is controlled by
depressing the key 'UNIT'.

th e plunger tip is in accordance

with the tip si ze on the display. If
not, pr ess th e key ' 7.9/11.1' to
choose.
Smaller Fru its
Similar to large fruit testing except:
A. Ma ke a punct ure test on only
one cheek midway between
the stem and the bottom.
B. R e m o v a l o f t h e s k i n i s
unnecessary.
C. P e n e t r a t i o n s h o u l d b e
suff i c ient to o b t ain p eak
reading. Repeti tive testing is
a perf ect te sting techn ique f or
small fruits.
6. BATTERY RE PLACEMENT
A. When the battery sym bol
appears on the display, it is
time to replace the batteries.
B. Slide the Battery Cover away
from the tester and remove the
batteries.
C. Install batteries paying
careful attention to polarity.
7. MAINTENA NC E
A. Before daily us e, exercise the
pl unger in an d out for 10
s e c o n d s t o e n s u r e t h e
mechanism functions freely.
B. After daily use, cl ea n th e
penetrometer tips. Carefu lly
hold the te ster with t he load
shaft pointing down u nder a
slowly flowi ng water faucet
for a few seconds, dry with a
towel and all ow to dr y further
by s tan d ing it wit h s h aft
pointing down.
C. The HFH80 tester should never
be lubr icate d with oi l since
thi s w i ll a ccum u lat e d u st
causing increased friction and
decrease
d accuracy.

8.HOW TO SET THE TIME OF
AUTO POWE R OFF
The default setting f or auto power
off at the factory i s 5 minutes.
That means the tester will auto
power off 5 mi nutes from the time
of last key operation. Users can
change it to any value bet ween 09 mi nu tes by f ol lowing steps.

9.ACCURACY VERIFICATION

verified by the following formula.

so correct reading should lie in

HFH83 (7.9mm) the reading
should be
11x2.041 =22.4 5
Max. deviation is
±(22.45*1% +0.1) =±0.32
so correct reading should lie in
22.45±0.32
=22.13-22.77kgf

10. COMMUNICATE WITH PC
A. Instal l the optional RS232 C
software to the PC.
B. Connect the test er to the COM
or USB port of the P C w ith the
opt ion al R S23 2 c abl es. To
connect to a USB port, a U SB
adaptor is required.
C. Run the software on the deskto p
and s elect the COM po rt or
U S B p ort i n t h e s ys t e m
settings.

interfacing, operation outside of design limits, improper repair, or unauthorized

been tampered with or shows evidence of having been damaged as a result of
excessive corrosion; or current, heat, moisture or vibration; improper specification; misapplication; misuse or other operating conditions outside of OMEGA’s
control. Components in which wear is not warranted, include but are not limited
to contact points, fuses, and triacs.
