Water resistance: The waterproof feature is warranted*1 to operate at depths up to 3m (10 feet) for up to one hour. The waterproof feature may be compromised if the camera is subject to substantial or excessive impact.

Shock resistance: The anti-shock feature warrants

the operation of the camera against accidental impact incurred from everyday use of your digital compact camera. The anti-shock feature does not unconditionally warrant all defective operation or cosmetic damage. Cosmetic damage, such as scratches and dents, are not covered under the warranty.

As with any electronic device, proper care and maintenance are required to preserve the integrity and operation of your camera. To maintain camera performance, please take your camera to the nearest Olympus Authorized Service Center to have it inspected after any major impact. In the event the camera is damaged as a result of negligence or misuse, the warranty will not cover costs associated with the service or repair of your camera. For additional information on our warranty, please visit to the Olympus website for your local area.

Please observe the following care instructions for your camera.

Before Use:

• Check the camera for foreign material including dirt, dust or sand.

• Be sure the battery compartment/card cover lock and connector cover lock are

firmly closed.

• Do not open the battery compartment/card cover and connector cover with wet

hands, while under water, or in a damp or dusty environment (e.g. beach).

After Use:

• Be sure to wipe off any excess water or debris after using the camera under water.

• After the camera is used under sea water, immerse the camera in a bucket

containing fresh water for about 10 minutes (with the battery compartment/card cover and connector cover firmly closed). After that, dry the camera in a shade with good ventilation.

• Water drops may be observed on the inner surface of the battery compartment/

card cover or connector cover after you open each cover. If any water drops are found, be sure to wipe them off before using the camera.

Storage and Maintenance

• Do not leave the camera in an environment at high temperature (40°C or more) or

at low temperature (0°C or less). Failure to do so may break down water resistance.

• Do not use chemicals for cleaning, rust prevention, anti-fogging, repairing, etc.

• Do not leave the camera in water for a long time. Failure to do so will cause

damage to the camera’s appearance and/or deteriorate water resistance. In addition do not pour water over the camera directly from the water faucet.

• In order to preserve the water resistant feature, as with any underwater

housing, it is recommended that the waterproof packing (and seals) are replaced annually. For the Olympus distributors or service stations where the waterproof packing can be replaced, see the supplied “Olympus Distributors’ List” or visit Olympus website for your local area.

a. Install the software

1 Insert the OLYMPUS Master CD-ROM. 2 Windows: Click the “OLYMPUS

Master“ button.

Macintosh: Double-click the

“Installer“ icon.

3 Simply follow the on-screen

instructions.

b. Connect the camera to the computer

1 Connect the camera and computer using the USB cable (included).

The monitor will turn on automatically.

2 Select [PC] on the monitor, and press o.

Your PC will now recognize your camera as a

removable storage drive.

c. Transfer images to the computer

1 With the camera now connected,

open OLYMPUS Master.

The [Transfer Images] window is

transfer, and click the [Transfer Images] button.

Pictures can sometimes appear blurred as the result of moving the camera while the shutter button is being pressed.

To prevent the camera from moving, hold the camera firmly with both hands while keeping your elbows at your sides. When taking pictures with the camera in the vertical position, hold the camera so that the flash is positioned above the lens. Keep your fingers and the strap away from the lens and flash.

To shoot pictures or set the items about shooting, press the K/h/s button to set the shooting mode. (The shooting mode will be changed every time you press the button.) To display, edit or erase the recorded pictures, press the q button to set the playback mode.

• If you press the K/h/s button without turning on the camera, the power is

supplied and the shooting mode is set. If you press the q button in the same way, the power is supplied and the playback mode is set.

While in shooting mode, use these buttons for quick access to some of the more commonly used features.

1 K/h/s button (Shooting)

Press this button repeatedly to switch over among the normal shooting mode (P (Program auto)/AUTO (Full auto mode)), the image stabilization mode or s mode.

2 q button (Playback)

Select the playback mode.

3 4& button (Macro Mode)

Use macro or super macro mode when taking close-up pictures such as of a flower.

4 1F button (Exposure Compensation)

Use this setting to overexpose (+) or underexpose (–) a picture.

5 3# button (Flash Mode)

Select from 4 flash modes – Auto, Red-eye reduction, Fill-in flash, or Flash off.

6 o Button (OK/FUNC)

Displays the function menu and sets the functions often used in shooting mode. Also confirms and sets your selection of menu items.

7 2Y/S button (Self-timer)

Select the self-timer to delay the shot approximately 12 seconds from when the shutter button is pressed.

8 m button (MENU)

Press this button to display the top menu.

This function allows you to switch the s (scene mode) according to the subject.

1 Press the K/h/s button repeatedly to select the s mode. 2 Press 12 to select a scene mode, and press o.

Shooting s (Scene) Modes

& This mode lets you take pictures as close as 20 cm/8 in. to your subject (when the

optical zoom is at the greatest wide-angle).

% Use this mode to take pictures as close as 7 cm/2.7 in. to your subject. In % mode,

the position of the zoom lens is fixed.

1 Press 2Y/S. 2 Press 12 to select [Y ON], and press o.

3 Press the shutter button fully to take the picture.

The self-timer lamp lights for approximately 10 seconds

after the shutter button is pressed, then starts blinking. After blinking for approximately 2 seconds, the picture is taken.

1 Press 3#. 2 Press 12 to select the flash mode, and press o.

3 Press the shutter button halfway.

When the flash is set to fire, the # mark lights.

4 Press the shutter button completely to take the picture.

Flash working range:

W (max.): Approx. 0.2 to 3.8 m (0.6 to 12.4 ft.) T (max.): Approx. 0.3 to 2.6 m (1 to 8.5 ft.)

To save battery power, the camera automatically enters sleep mode and stops

operating if not used for 3 minutes in shooting mode. Press the shutter button or zoom button to reactivate the camera.

If the camera is not operated for 15 minutes after the camera enters sleep mode,

the camera turns off. To resume operation, turn on the power again.

Auto flash The flash fires automatically in low light or backlight

Red-eye reduction flash

The red-eye reduction flash mode significantly reduces this phenomenon by emitting pre-flashes before firing the regular flash.

Fill-in flash The flash fires regardless of the available light.

You can select a language for on-screen display. Available languages vary depending on the area where you purchased this camera.

(Monitor – Playback mode

This function lets you show several pictures at the same time on the monitor when reviewing pictures.

1 Press the zoom button toward W (G) to switch to

the thumbnail (index) display.

Use the arrow pad (1243) to select a picture and

press o to display it in single frame playback.

Press the zoom button to display the pictures in 4, 9, 16

or 25 frames.

Use the AV cable provided with the camera to playback recorded images on your TV. Both still pictures and movies can be played back.

1 Make sure that the TV and camera are turned off. Connect the multi-connector

on the camera to the video input terminal on the TV using the AV cable.

2 Turn the TV on and set it to the video input mode.

For details of switching to video input, refer to your TV’s instruction manual.

3 Press the q button to turn on the camera.

The last picture taken is displayed on the TV. Use the arrow pad (43) to select the picture

you want to display.

Using the provided USB cable, you may connect your camera directly to a PictBridge compatible printer such as the Olympus P-11 to make prints.

1 In playback mode, display the picture you want to print out on the monitor. 2 Connect one end of the provided USB cable into the camera’s multi-connector

and the other end into the printer’s USB connector.

3 Press the < button.

Printing starts. When printing is finished, disconnect the USB

cable from the camera with the picture selection screen displayed.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

WARNING

( Do not use the camera near flammable or explosive gases. ( Do not use the flash on people (infants, small children, etc.) at

close range.

• You must be at least 1 m (3 ft.) away from the faces of your subjects. Firing the flash too close to the subject’s eyes could cause a momentary loss of vision.

( Keep young children and infants away from the camera.

• Always use and store the camera out of the reach of young children and infants to prevent the following dangerous situations which could cause serious injury:

• Becoming entangled in the camera strap, causing strangulation.

• Accidentally swallowing the battery, cards or other small parts.

• Accidentally firing the flash into their own eyes or those of another child.

• Accidentally being injured by the moving parts of the camera.

( Do not look at the sun or strong lights with the camera. ( Do not use or store the camera in dusty or humid places. ( Do not cover the flash with a hand while firing.

CAUTION

( Stop using the camera immediately if you notice any unusual

odors, noise, or smoke around it.

• Never remove the batteries with bare hands, which may cause a fire or burn your hands.

( Never open or close the covers with wet hands.

• Never open or close the battery compartment / card cover and connector cover, or pull or insert the AC adapter with wet hands. Failure to do so may cause damage or an electric shock.

( Do not leave the camera in places where it may be subject to

extremely high temperatures.

• Doing so may cause parts to deteriorate and, in some circumstances, cause the camera to catch fire. Do not use the charger or AC adapter if it is covered (such as a blanket). This could cause overheating, resulting in fire.

( Handle the camera with care to avoid getting a low-temperature

burn.

• When the camera contains metal parts, overheating can result in a lowtemperature burn. Pay attention to the following:

• When used for a long period, the camera will get hot. If you hold on to the

camera in this state, a low-temperature burn may be caused.

• In places subject to extremely cold temperatures, the temperature of the

camera’s body may be lower than the environmental temperature. If possible, wear gloves when handling the camera in cold temperatures.

( Be careful with the strap.

• Be careful with the strap when you carry the camera. It could easily catch on stray objects - and cause serious damage.

DANGER

• The camera uses a lithium ion battery specified by Olympus. Charge the battery with the specified charger. Do not use any other chargers.

• Never heat or incinerate batteries.

• Take precautions when carrying or storing batteries to prevent them from coming

into contact with any metal objects such as jewelry, pins, fasteners, etc.

• Never store batteries where they will be exposed to direct sunlight, or subjected to high temperatures in a hot vehicle, near a heat source, etc.

• To prevent causing battery leaks or damaging their terminals, carefully follow all instructions regarding the use of batteries. Never attempt to disassemble a battery or modify it in any way, by soldering, etc.

• If battery fluid gets into your eyes, flush your eyes immediately with clear, cold running water and seek medical attention immediately.

• Always store batteries out of the reach of small children. If a child accidentally swallows a battery, seek medical attention immediately.

WARNING

• Keep batteries dry at all times.

• To prevent batteries from leaking, overheating, or causing a fire or explosion, use

only batteries recommended for use with this product.

• Insert the battery carefully as described in the operating instructions.

• If rechargeable batteries have not been recharged within the specified time, stop

charging them and do not use them.

• Do not use a battery if it is cracked or broken.

• If a battery leaks, becomes discolored or deformed, or becomes abnormal in any

other way during operation, stop using the camera.

• If a battery leaks fluid onto your clothing or skin, remove the clothing and flush the affected area with clean, running cold water immediately. If the fluid burns your skin, seek medical attention immediately.

• Never subject batteries to strong shocks or continuous vibration.

CAUTION

• Before loading, always inspect the battery carefully for leaks, discoloration, warping, or any other abnormality.

• The battery may become hot during prolonged use. To avoid minor burns, do not remove it immediately after using the camera.

• Always unload the battery from the camera before storing the camera for a long period.
