FCC Regulation
In accordance with FCC regulations, the following information relates to the information required to be supplied on a fax.
Part 68, Section 68.381 (c) (3) of FCC Regulations states the following: "Telephone facsimile machines: identification of the sender of the message. It shall be unlawful for any
person within the United States to use a computer or other electronic device to send any message via a telephone facsimile machine unless such message clearly contains, in a margin at the top or bottom of each transmitted page or on the first page of the transmission, the date and time it is sent and an identification of the business, other entity, or individual sending the message and the telephone number of the sending machine or such business, other entity, or individual. Telephone facsimile machines manufactured on and after December 20, 1992 must clearly mark such identifying information on each transmitted message".
NOTE: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device
pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules.
These limits are designated to provide reasonable protection against interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in
accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined
by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:
- Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
- Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.
- Connect the equipment into an outlet of a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected.
- Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for assistance. Changes or modification not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the
user’s authority to operate the equipment. Connecting of peripherals requires the use of grounded shielded signal cables. This equipment complies with Part 68 of the FCC rules. On the rear of this equipment is a label that contains,
among other information, the FCC Registration Number and Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) for this equipment. You must, upon request, provide this information to your telephone company.
This equipment uses the following USOC jacks: RJIIC The REN is used to determine the quantity of devices that may be connected to the telephone line. Excessive
RENs on the telephone line may result in the devices not ringing in response to an incoming call. In most, but not all areas, the sum of the RENs should not exceed five (5.0). To be certain of the number of devices that may be connected to the line, as determined by the total RENs, contact the telephone company to determine the maximum REN for the calling area.
If this equipment causes harm to the telephone network, the telephone company will notify you in advance that temporary discontinuance of service may be required. If advance notice is not practical, the telephone company will notify the customer as soon as possible. Also, you will be advised of your right to file a complaint with the FCC if you believe it is necessary.
The telephone company may make changes in its facilities, equipment operations, or procedures that could affect the operation of the equipment. If this happens, the telephone company will provide advance notice in order for you to make the necessary modifications in order to maintain uninterrupted service.
If trouble is experienced with this equipment, please contact Olivetti Office U.S.A. 1-800-2222310 for repair and warranty information. If the trouble is causing harm to the telephone network, the telephone company may request you to remove the equipment from the network until the problem is resolved.
No repairs may be done by the customer. This equipment cannot be used on a telephone company-provided coin service. Connection to a Party Line Service is subject to state tariffs. This equipment is hearing-aid compatible. When programming and/or making test calls to emergency numbers:
Remain on the line and briefly explain to the dispatcher the reason for the call.
Perform such activities in the off-peak hours such as early mornings or late evenings.
FOR CANADIAN USERS
INDUSTRY CANADA NOTICE The Load Number of this modem is 3. The standard connecting arrangement code for this equipment as specified in CP-01, Section 1.8.3 is
CA11A. The Load Number assigned to each terminal device denotes the percentage of the total load to be connected
to a telephone loop that is used by the device to prevent overloading. The termination on a loop may consist of any combination of devices subject only to the requirement that the total of the load numbers of all devices does not exceed 100.
This digital apparatus does not exceed the Class B limits for radio noise emissions from digital apparatus as set out in the interference-causing equipment standard entitled "Digital Apparatus", ICES-003 of the Industry Canada.
Cet appareil numérique respecte les limites de bruits radioélectriques applicables aux appareils numériques de Classe B prescrites dans la norme sur le matériel brouilleur: "Appareils Numeriques", NMB-003 édictée par le ministre des Communications.
The Industry Canada label identifies certified equipment. This certification means that the equipment meets certain telecommunications network protective operational and safety requirements. Industry Canada does not guarantee the equipment will operate to the user's satisfaction.
Before installing this equipment, users should ensure that it is permissible to be connected to the facilities of the local telecommunications company. The equipment must also be installed using an acceptable method of connection. In some cases, the company's inside wiring associated with a single line individual service may be extended by means of a certified connector assembly (telephone extension cord). The customer should be aware that compliance with the above conditions may not prevent degradation of service in some situations.
Repairs to certified equipment should be made by an authorized Canadian maintenance facility designated by the supplier. Any repairs or alterations made by the user to this equipment, or equipment malfunctions, may give the telecommunications company cause to request the user to disconnect the equipment.
Users should ensure for their own protection that the electrical ground connections of the power utility, telephone lines and internal metallic water pipe system, if present, are connected together. This precaution may be particularly important in rural areas.
CAUTION: Users should not attempt to make such connections themselves, but should contact the
appropriate electric inspection authority, or electrician, as appropriate.

MACHINE AND GETTING STARTED
QUICKLY
INTRODUCTION
Congratulations! The facsimile machine that you have purchased will enable you to communicate with a vast number of correspondents all over the world.
The machine in your possession is MULTIFUNCTIONAL. This means that, as well as being able to send and receive documents quickly and easily using its wide range of facsimile features, you can connect it to a personal computer and use it as a a
printer
, when you have to print documents on the PC and enables you to send and receive
documents on a personal computer (for more detailed information, contact your local dealer). This facsimile machine also saves you money! In fact, you can print on various different sizes of
PLAIN PAPER. The printing unit is based on regulation, text/image separation and grey scale functions, which make it an extremely reliable copying machine. You can, of course, also use it as a OPERATION, you can set one transaction while the facsimile machine is carrying out another: it will automatically carry out the transaction set as soon as the one in progress has been completed.
In addition, you can leave the machine unattended at all times without worry: the machine's MEMORY will enable you to send documents at a preset time or receive them even if there is no paper or ink left, and automatically prints

INSTALLATION SITE
The facsimile machine must be placed on a stable surface. There must be sufficient free space around it for air to circulate and the output document tray to be positioned correctly so that paper does not pile up, increasing the likelihood of jams. The tray also enables the facsimile machine to be placed beside a table, thus saving a considerable amount of space.
The machine must not be exposed to sunlight, installed in a damp or dusty room or subjected to sharp changes in temperature and humidity.
To avoid installing a new telephone line, position the machine near an existing telephone socket, where possible.
In addition, make sure that the electrical socket, which must be used exclusively by the facsimile machine, is connected to ground.
NOTICE:
The manufacturers decline all liability for improper use or installation, connection to
unauthorized devices or tampering by unauthorized staff.
WARNING:
When the ON/OFF switch is in its OFF position, the facsimile machine is still powered. To cut off the power supply, unplug the power cable from the mains socket, which must be easily accessible.
THIS MACHINE MUST BE CONNECTED TO GROUND!
4
CONNECTING TO THE TELEPHONE LINE
In some countries the installation procedure is performed by the customer engineering service. To install the machine yourself, follow the procedure described below.
WARNING:
Check that the power cable is unplugged before connecting the machine to the telephone line.
To connect the facsimile machine and a telephone or answering machine to the telephone line, proceed as follows:
1. Connect one end of the telephone line connection cable to the line socket (LINE) on the facsimile machine, and the other end to the wall telephone socket (see “case 1” or “case 2” figure). Note: if the network to which the facsimile machine is connected has more than one socket connected in series, the facsimile machine must be connected to the primary socket.
2. Make the telephone/answering machine connection (if available) in either of the following ways:
a) if the telephone line connection cable provided with the facsimile machine has an extension
plug (with socket): plug the telephone/answering machine cord into the extension plug (with socket), (see “case 1” figure).
b) if the telephone line connection cable provided with the facsimile machine does not have
an extension plug (with socket): connect the telephone/answering machine cord’s “miniature” connector directly to the connection socket (TEL1 or TEL2) on the facsimile machine, removing the plastic cap, if fitted (see “case 2” figure).

The last phase of the installation procedure consists of setting parameters that determine how the machine is to operate. The procedure below assumes that you can access all the installation parameters but this may not be the case. In fact, depending on the country where you live, some of them may be "hidden" as local legislation specifies that they can be changed exclusively by service engineers.
A general rule to be followed is not to change the settings made by the manufacturers unless you are sure that no errors will result and to print the current installation parameters before changing them.
Having changed the relevant installation parameters, the machine can be used with the basic configuration set by the manufacturers. You can tailor the configuration to your specific needs later on when you have become more familiar with the machine, having read the manual and identified your precise requirements, to ensure that the configuration set will be the one most suited to your activity &

Installation Parameter Table
The table below provides a complete list of the installation parameters that you can set, in the order in which they appear, together with a brief description of each one. The first parameter Sender's name is always accessible. Whether the parameters "Sender's number", "Dial type" and "Dial type for pub. net." are accessible depends on how a special selector was set, in accordance with the legislation of the country in which you bought the machine. Another selector controls access to the other parameters in the table.
PARAMETER MEANING
SENDER'S NAME This parameter is used for entering the name you
intend to use as the sender's ID. Up to 16 characters can be entered.
SENDER'S NUMBER This parameter specifies your telephone number. You
can enter up to 20 digits .
DIAL TYPE This parameter must correspond to the type of
connection used. If the facsimile machine is connected to a private branch exchange, you must also select the method used for connecting to the public line and the type of dialling used by the exchange. The connection methods available are: Dial number, Earth and Flash. "Dial number" is the most commonly used mode. The types of dialling are pulse and tone.
DIAL TYPE FOR PUB. NET. Enables you to choose, having connected the machine
to the public network , the type of dialling: pulse or tone.
NO. RING FOR AUTOMATIC RX Used for setting the number of rings emitted before the
machine automatically answers an incoming call. You can set from 1 to 9 rings.
REDIAL NO. Represents the number of attempts (automatic redial
function) that the machine will make automatically when the number is busy or no ans wer is r ec eiv ed. You can set from 1 to 9 redials.
TIME BETWEEN REDIALS Indicates the delay (in seconds) between one
automatic redial and t he nex t.
FAX/PHO NE A LA RM DURA TION Indicates the time (in seconds) that the machine will
wait before automatically preparing to receive a fax, providing the "FAX /PHONE" switch is on.

GETTING STARTED
This section describes the facsimile's basic functions, that is, how to send and receive a fax and how to redial a fax number manually (when the automatic redials carried out by the machine do not succeed in establishing a connection with the desired correspondent). If you use the machine as described here, remember that you are not using it to its full potential: we therefore recommend you read the second part of the manual & earliest opportunity.
SENDING A FAX
I
The facsimile machine is switched on and in standby. The display shows the message "AUTOMATIC RX". The procedure described in the "Setting the Installation Parameters" section has been carried out
1. Place the document face down in the ADF and fit the paper guides against its left and right
edges. The display shows the date, time and percentage of free memory on the top line and the
message "DOCUMENT INSERTED" on the bottom line.
DD/MM 'YY HH:MM %nnn DOCUMENT INSERTE D
2. Press DIAL, dial the correspondent's fax number on the numeric keypad and press START.
The facsimile machine starts to store the document (the percentage of free memory decreases). It then activates transmission (the TX/RX LED lights up and the display shows the status of the connection) and at the end of transmission, if no errors have been found, it displays the message "TRANSMISSION COMPLETED" (the TX/RX LED goes off) and returns to standby. You can also check that transmission was successful by looking at the percentage of free memory, which returns to the maximum value available.
