Setup Guide
The OKI® USB Interface Kit enables you to use your
OKI DP-5000 Series pr inte r with an A pple
with a Windows 98
®
computer that has a USB port.

Important notes
• Please read this document carefully, and follow
the procedures outlined to prevent any damage to
the USB interface cable and/or to the connected
devices.
• DO NOT unplug the USB interface cable while
printing. If you do so you must restart your computer before re-commencing printing.
• The OKI USB interface cable works only with
the designated OKI DP-5000 printer.
• If your iMac computer is running Mac 8.1 operating system you must install the iMac update 1.0
software. Please note that you do not need to
install this update with Mac OS 8.5 or greater.
Checking the package contents
Please check the contents of the package. I t should contain the following items:
• USB Interface Cable.
• Quick Setup Guide (this document).
System requirements
• Apple iMac computer, Mac OS 8.1 with iMac
Update 1.0 or later.
• PC compatible computer with USB port, Windows 98.
Installation for iMac
To install the OKI USB Interface Kit to enable you to
operate your DP-5000 printer with an Apple iMac, follow these steps:
1. If you haven’t already set up your printer, please
do so by following the instructions included with
the printer.
Caution:
Make sure the computer and printer are turned off before
you connect the USB printer cable.
2. Connect the USB interface cable (1) to the parallel connector (2) on the printer.
3. Connect the other end of the USB cable (3) to an
available USB port (4) on the side of the iMac, or
on a USB hub. To connect the USB cable directly
to the iMac, open the port door (5) on the side of
the iMac, and with the three-pronged USB icon
facing up, plug the cable into the USB port.

5. Insert the OKI DP-5000 installation disc into
your CD-ROM drive. Open the English folder,
and then double- click on the Install OKI DP -
5000 icon.

6. Follow the instructions on-screen to comp lete the
installation.

Caution:
Do not plug the USB cable directly into the iMac keyboard.
The USB port on the keyboard does not supply its own power, so the combined current drain of the printer and the
keyboard might exceed USB specifications.
4. Turn on the printer (and the USB hub, if connected), and then turn on the iMac computer.

Make sure that the USB interface cable is properly connected and your printer is turned on.
1. Select Chooser from the menu and click the DP-
5000 icon.
2. Go to Select a USB printer and select printer
required.
Note:
When more than one OKI printer is connected to
the USB port, each printer will be assig ned a
separate USB port number (USB #1, USB #2,
etc).
Now you are ready for printing. Ref er to Appendix A in
your User's Guide on the OKI Installation Disc for
printer driver settings and further information on the
USB Interface Kit.
Using the OKI USB printer with iMac
Installation for Windows 98
To install the OKI USB Interface Kit to enable you to
operate your DP-5000 pri nter with a Wi ndows 98 computer, refer to page A-3, Appendix A in your User's
Guide on the OKI Installation Disc.

Le kit d'interface USB OKI® vous permet d'utiliser votre imprimante OKI série DP-5000 avec un ordinateur
Apple® iMac™ ou un PC sous Windows 98® équipé
d'un port US B.
Notes importantes
• Pour éviter tout dommage au câble d'interface
USB et aux périphériques connectés, lisez attentivement ce document et respectez les procédures
exposées.
• Ne débranchez JAMAIS le câble d'interface USB
en cours d'impression. Vous seriez obligé de redémarrer l'ordinateur avant de reprendre l'impression.
• Le câble d'interface USB OKI ne fonctionne
qu'avec l'imprimante de type OKI DP-5000.
• Si votre iMac emploie le système d'exploitation
Mac 8.1, vous devez installer la mise à jour iMac
1.0. Cette installation n'est pas nécessaire avec le
système d'exploit at ion Ma c 8.5 ou supéri eur.
Vérification du contenu de l'emballage
Vérifiez que l'emballage contient les éléments suivants:
• Câble d'interface USB.
• Guide d'installatio n rapide (ce document).
Système nécessaire
• Ordinateur Apple iMac, système d'exploitation
Mac 8.1 avec mise à jour iMac 1.0 ou ultérieur.
• Ordinateur compatible PC avec port USB, Windows 98.
Installation pour le iMac
Pour utiliser l'imprimant e DP-5000 avec un Apple
iMac, installez le kit d'interface USB OKI de la façon
suivante :
1. Si vous n'avez pas encore paramétré l'imprimante, faites-le en suiv ant les inst ruction s accompagnant la machine.
Attention:
Assurez-vo us que l' ordinate ur et l' imprimant e sont é teints
avant de raccorder le câble USB.
2. Raccordez le câble d'interface USB (1) au connecteur parallèle (2) de l'imprimante.
3. Raccordez l'autre extrémité du câble (3) à un port
USB libre (4) sur le côté du iMac, ou à un concentrateur USB. Pour raccorder le câble directement au iMac, ou vrez la trap pe des port s (5) sur
le côté de l'ordinateur et branchez le câble dans le
port USB, le symbole USB à trois broches tourné
vers le haut.
