5.1. Answering a phone call
Answering fr
om the helmet
- The cell phone receives an incoming call (buzz that acts as telephone ringing; the type of buzz depends on the cell phone).
- Stop your vehicle in a suitable place in compliance with Traffic Regulations.
- Press the “on” key and keep it pressed for 2 seconds (two buzzes will be heard in succession)
Note: Not all cell phones allow for a call to be answered directly from the helmet. This depends on the software installed in the phone and not on the N-Com system. In case your cell phone does not allow you to answer directly from the helmet, use the automatic answer function (see below).
Note: Not all mobile phones send a ringing tone to the helmet (and to every type of earphone connected). In this case, turn on the cell phone vibration mode to be notified of an incoming call.
Note: If two helmets are in intercom mode at the time of an incoming call, connection to the passenger’s helmet is cut off. At the end of the phone call, the intercom mode can be turned back on by pr
essing key “ ” for about 2 seconds (double
buzz in the earphone).
- Press key “on” and keep it pressed for about 2 seconds to end the call (double buzz in the earphone).
Automatic answer
- Preset your cell phone for the automatic answering function when it is connected to an earphone.
- When turning on the system, if you are not connected to the passenger, briefly press the “on” key so as to preset the
system to using the cell phone with automatic answer.
- When a call comes in, the cell phone automatically answers and you can start talking.
Note: If you are connected to the Passenger in intercom mode, the passenger will also be able to hear the phone conversation. To disconnect the passenger, briefly press the “on” key when a call comes in. At the end of the phone call, you can switch back to the intercom mode by pr

Note: If the cell phone allows it, it is better to record vocal commands directly from the helmet. This will facilitate recognition of the vocal command when the command is given directly from the helmet.
With some cell phones you can use a “Magic Word” to activate the vocal functions without having to press any key. Follow your cell phone instructions to make vocal calls or other vocal commands.
Note: In case of malfunction, the system can be “reset”
.
Simply remove the e-box from the helmet and then put it back in place.
6. USING THE SYSTEM WITH OTHER AUDIO DEVICES
The N-Com system is preset for listening to different audio devices, which can be connected by means of the Multimedia wire (sold separately). You can listen to an MP3, an FM radio, or connect to a satellite navigation system, etc. by using the 3.5 mm output that these devices are generally equipped with for earphone purposes.
Caution: In compliance with Traffic Regulations, listening to other devices must not interfere with driving the vehicle, which
has absolute priority. All maneuvers on electronic devices and on the N-Com system must be carried out with the vehicle stopped, in conformity with applicable Traffic regulations.
Caution: Setting the volume at a very high level may distract you from riding the vehicle and cause dangerous situations or in
any case limit your ability to hear background noises. Adjust the volume to a suitable level prior to using the system while riding.
6.1. Connection with Multimedia Wire
- connector 3 (3 poles – with red band) in the audio device input (fig. 9).
- connector 4 (4 poles) in the helmet input (fig. 9).
Note: The sound coming from the source connected to the helmet is heard by both the pilot and the passenger. In the event that the passenger does not want to listen, you can disconnect him.

8. BATTERY
8.1. Battery installation
The battery has to be installed in the Basic Kit. Please refer to the specific Basic Kit instructions for your helmet to properly install the battery.
8.2. Warnings on the use of rechargeable batteries
The device runs on a rechargeable battery. New batteries achieve the highest performances only after being completely charged and discharged two or three times. The battery can be charged and discharged several times, although it does deteriorate with use. When continuous talking and pause times are significantly reduced compared to normal, it is time to replace the battery.
Caution: Only use the types of batteries, battery chargers and accessories approved by Nolan for your own device model.
- Unplug the battery charger from the mains and from the device when it is not used. Do not leave the battery connected to the battery charger for long periods of time. Extreme temperatures may affect the recharging capacity of the battery.
- Do not use batteries for purposes that differ from the recommended ones. Never use battery charger or batteries that turn out to be damaged.
- Do not short-circuit the battery.
- Always keep the battery at a temperature between 10°C and 35°C.
- Do not throw batteries into a fire! Batteries must be disposed of in compliance with local regulations. Do not throw the batteries out with household waste.
- Only use the battery charger provided with your system. Do not charge the battery using other devices.
- If the system is not going to be used for a long period of time, remove the e-box from the helmet.
8.3. Charging the battery
The battery has to be completely recharged for at least 10 hours before using the N-Com. For optimum battery performance, it is recommended to always carry out complete recharging cycles for the first charges. Subsequently, the battery can be recharged for shorter time periods. Whenever possible, it is better to carry out a complete recharging cycle.
1) Connect the battery charger to the mains. The green light on the battery charger turns on.
2) Plug in the battery charger connector into its socket (fig. 11) in the helmet. The red light on the battery charger lights up
to indicate that the connector is plugged in correctly and that recharging is in progress.
3) The light turns green again when recharging is complete. Unplug the connector and disconnect the battery charger from
the mains.

The Battery Charger in certain markets is not fitted with an L.E.D. battery status indicator, in this instance please note that the complete charging process takes approximately 3 hours
8.4. Discharged battery signal
During operation, the system signals when the battery runs down and goes in “Reser
ve”. When the battery has less than
2-hour energy, also “ ” e “ ” keys start flashing to signal the “Reser
ve” status. The “Reserve” status is indicated by
means of 3 consecutive acoustic signals approximately every 6 minutes. When the battery is on “Reserve”, the system switches off automatically if no key is pr
essed for 30 minutes during operation. A series of acoustic signals inside the helmet notifies you that the system has been switched off. This makes it possible to always have a small reserve of power supply in case you forget to turn your helmet off.
9. MAINTENANCE
The N-Com does not require any special maintenance tasks. In case you use the kit when it rains, remove the e-box from its housing and dry it with warm air. Wipe dry the outside of the helmet when wet, especially in the contact area. In case the kit gets wet several times, rust or corrosion may form, thus hindering the electrical contact. In these cases, it i
s
recommended to clean the contacts of the socket on the shell and on the e-box using alcohol or another antirust product.
