Important Safety Instructions
With reference to unpacking, installation, use and maintenance of your electronic device, the following basic guidelines are recommended:
• Do not use or install this product near water, to avoid re or shock hazard. For example, near a bathtub, kitchen sink or laundry tub,

Your 3G17Wn - 3G Wireless N150 Router
Congratulations on your purchase of a NetComm 3G17Wn - 3G Wireless N150 Router. This product is a high-performance router that
provides wireless networking and Internet connectivity for your home, ofce or public space. The NetComm 3G17Wn supports an
external 3G USB Modem which enables you to share a 3G Mobile Broadband service among multiple computers.
This product also features a WAN Ethernet port to connect the 3G17Wn to a xed line (ADSL/Cable/Satellite) service to provide alternate
Internet connectivity. The 3G17Wn also allows for a 3G Mobile Broadband connection provided by a 3G USB modem to act as a backup
Internet connection to an existing xed line service, providing automatic Internet failover to 3G in the event that the ADSL/Cable/Satellite
service fails. The product features four 10/100 LAN ports for wired computers, and also features a built in Wireless Access Point which
enables you to connect computers and laptops wirelessly to the Internet via the router.
The 3G17Wn features the latest standards of wireless security, with wireless security enabled by default on each router. An advanced
rewall and VPN pass-through functionality allows for maximum security and caters for the encrypted Point-to-Point communications from
connected computers through the 3G17Wn to a VPN Server.
The Port Forwarding and UPnP functionality provided by the 3G17Wn make it easier for today’s Internet users to setup and congure the various
Network Port Rules needed by Internet applications such as On-Line Gaming, Peer-To-Peer le sharing and Instant Messaging services.

Placement of your 3G17Wn
Just like your mobile phone, a 3G USB Modem’s location will affect its signal strength to the 3G Mobile Base Station (Cell Tower). The data
speed achievable from a 3G USB modem is relative to this signal strength, which is affected by many environmental factors. Please keep
in mind that the 3G USB Modem will need adequate signal strength in order to provide Internet connectivity whilst choosing a location to
place your 3G17Wn - 3G Wireless N150 Router.
Similarly to the 3G USB Modem, the wireless connection between the Router and your Wi-Fi devices will be stronger the closer your
connected devices are to your Router. Your wireless connection and performance will degrade as the distance between your Router and
connected devices increases. This may or may not be directly noticeable, and is greatly affected by the individual installation environment.
If you have concerns about your network’s performance that might be related to range or obstruction factors, try moving the computer to
a position between three to ve meters from the Router in order to see if distance is the problem. If difculties persist even at close range,
please contact NetComm Technical Support.
Note: While some of the items listed below can affect network performance, they will not prohibit your wireless network from functioning; if you are concerned that your network is
not operating at its maximum effectiveness, this checklist may help.
Router Placement
Place your Router as close as possible to the centre of your wireless network devices. To achieve the best wireless network coverage for
your “wireless clients” (i.e., computers with built in or USB Wireless Adapters, Laptops with Built-in Wireless, Wireless PDA / iPhone, etc):
• Ensure that your Router’s antennas are parallel to each other, and are positioned vertically (toward the ceiling). If your Router itself
is positioned vertically, point the antennas in an upward direction as much as possible.
• In multi-storey homes, place the Router on a oor that is as close to the centre of the home as possible. This may mean placing the
Router on an upper oor.
• Try not to place the Router near a cordless telephone that operates at the same radio frequency as the 3G17Wn (2.4GHz).
Avoid obstacles and interference
Avoid placing your Router near devices that may emit radio “noise,” such as microwave ovens. Dense objects that can inhibit wireless
communication include:
• Refrigerators
• Washers and/or dryers
• Metal cabinets
• Large aquariums
• Metallic-based, UV-tinted windows
If your wireless signal seems weak in some spots, make sure that objects such as these are not blocking the signal’s path (between your
devices and Router).

Cordless Phones
If the performance of your wireless network is impaired after considering the above issues, and you have a cordless phone:
• Try moving cordless phones away from your Router and your wireless-enabled computers.
• Unplug and remove the battery from any cordless phone that operates on the 2.4GHz band (check manufacturer’s information). If
this xes the problem, your phone may be interfering with the Wi-Fi Router.
• If your phone supports channel selection, change the channel on the phone to the farthest channel from your wireless network.
For example, change the phone to channel 1 and move your Router to channel 11. See your phones user manual for detailed
instructions.
• If necessary, consider switching to a 900MHz or 5GHz cordless phone.
Choose the “Quietest” Channel for your Wireless Network
In locations where homes or ofces are close together, such as apartment buildings or ofce complexes, there may be wireless networks
nearby that can conict with your wireless network.
Use the Site Survey capabilities found in the Wireless Utility of your wireless adapter to locate any other wireless networks that are available (see
your wireless adapter’s user manual), and switch your Router and computers to a channel as far away from other networks as possible.
• Experiment with more than one of the available channels, in order to nd the clearest connection and avoid interference from
neighbouring cordless phones or other wireless devices.
• For NetComm wireless networking products, use the detailed Site Survey and wireless channel information included with your
wireless network card. See your network card’s user guide for more information.
These guidelines should allow you to cover the maximum possible area with your Router. Should you need to cover an even wider area, you
should consider looking at building a hybrid network by combining your wireless network with a HomePlug Network. See the NetComm
website for more details on HomePlug products.

Connecting and Conguring your Router
The Router has been designed to be placed on a desktop. All of the cables exit from the rear of the Router for better organization. The
display is easily visible on the FRONT of the Router to provide you with information about network activity and status. See below for
explanation of each of the features.

Network and System Requirements
Before continuing with the installation of your 3G17Wn - 3G Wireless N150 Router, please conrm that you comply with the minimum
system requirements below.
• Compatible 3G USB Modem with Active SIM/Data Service if you want to use 3G Broadband service.
Note: Subject to terms and conditions from your 3G Mobile Broadband Service Provider.
• Computer with Windows, Macintosh, or Linux-based operating systems with a working Ethernet adapter with TCP/IP Protocol
installed.
• A Web Browser such as Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Safari etc.
Wireless Computer System Requirements
• Computer with a working 802.11b, 802.11g or 802.11n wireless adapter.
Modem Requirements
In order to use the WAN Ethernet port for Internet Connectivity your xed line service (Cable/xDSL/Satellite) modem must be equipped with
an RJ45 Ethernet port. Many modems have both an RJ45 Ethernet port and a USB connection. If you have a modem with both Ethernet
and USB, and are using the USB connection at this time, you will be instructed to use the RJ45 Ethernet port during the installation
procedure. If your modem has only a USB port, you can request a different type of modem from your ISP, or you can purchase a modem
that has an RJ45 Ethernet port on it.
Connecting your 3G Router
Step 1 – Connect the USB 3G Modem.

Step 2 – Connect a computer
Connect one end of the Ethernet cable into a LAN Port on the back panel of the 3G17Wn - 3G Wireless N150 Router, and the other end
into an available Ethernet port on the network adapter in the computer you will use to congure the unit.
Step 3 – Plug in the power
Connect the power adapter to the port on the back panel of your 3G Router. Then plug the other end of the power adapter into a wall
outlet or power strip.

Conguring your Router and Setting up your computer
Having physically connected your 3G17Wn, the next step is to congure the router to establish a broadband connection. Depending on
your computers current settings you may rst need to recongure the TCP/IP (Network Settings) to access your 3G Wireless Router.Follow
the instructions for your operating system.
Windows Vista computers
1. In the Windows task bar, click on Start and then click Control Panel.
2. Click on Network and Sharing Center. (Classic view only)
3. Click on Manage Network Connections on the left menu.
4. Right click on Local Area Connection and click on Properties
5. The Local Area Connection dialog box will display a list of currently installed network items. Ensure that the check box to the left
of the item labeled Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) is checked. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click on
Properties.
6. In the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) properties dialog box, click the radio button labeled Obtain an IP address automatically.
Also click the radio button labeled Obtain DNS server address automatically.
7. Click OK twice to conrm your changes and close the Control Panel.
Windows® XP computers
1. In the Windows task bar, click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click on Network & Internet Connections icon. (Category mode only).
3. Click the Network Connections icon.
4. In the LAN or High-Speed Internet window, right-click on the icon corresponding to your network interface card (NIC) and select
Properties. (Often, this icon is labeled Local Area Connection).
5. The Local Area Connection dialog box displays with a list of currently installed network items. Ensure that the check box to the left
of the item labeled Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is checked. Select Internet Protocol TCP/IP and click on Properties.
6. In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box, click the radio button labeled Obtain an IP address automatically. Also click
the radio button labeled Obtain DNS server address automatically.
7. Click OK twice to conrm your changes, and close the Control Panel.

Windows 2000 computers
First, check for the IP protocol and, if necessary, install it:
1. In the Windows task bar, click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click the Network and Dial-up Connections icon.
3. In the Network and Dial-up Connections window, right-click the Local Area Connection icon, and then select Properties.
4. In the Local Area Connection Properties dialog box, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties
5. In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box, click the radio button labeled Obtain an IP address automatically. Also click
the radio button labeled Obtain DNS server address automatically.
6. Click OK twice to conrm and save your changes, and then close the Control Panel.
Windows Me computers
1. In the Windows task bar, click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click on View All Control Panel Options.
3. Double-click the Network icon.
4. The Network Properties dialog box displays with a list of currently installed network components. If the list includes Internet Protocol
(TCP/IP), then the protocol has already been enabled. Skip to step 10.
5. If Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) does not display as an installed component, click Add…
6. In the Select Network Component Type dialog box, select Protocol, and then click Add…
7. Select Microsoft in the Manufacturers box.
8. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the Network Protocols list, and then click OK. You may be prompted to install les from your
Windows ME installation CD or other media. Follow the instructions to install the les. If prompted, click OK to restart your computer
with the new settings.
Next, congure the PC to accept IP information assigned by the modem:
9. Follow steps 1 - 3 above.
10. In the Network Properties dialog box, select TCP/IP, and then click Properties. If you have multiple TCP/IP listings, select the listing
associated with your network card or adapter.
11. In the TCP/IP Settings dialog box, click the radio button labeled Obtain an IP address automatically.
12. Click OK twice to conrm and save your changes, and then close the Control Panel.
Windows 95, 98 computers
First, check for the IP protocol and, if necessary, install it:
1. In the Windows task bar, click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click the Network icon.
3. The Network dialog box displays with a list of currently installed network components. If the list includes TCP/IP, and then the
protocol has already been enabled. Skip to step 9.
4. If TCP/IP does not display as an installed component, click Add… The Select Network Component Type dialog box displays.
5. Select Protocol, and then click Add… The Select Network Protocol dialog box displays.
6. Click on Microsoft in the Manufacturers list box, and then click TCP/IP in the Network Protocols list box.
7. Click OK to return to the Network dialog box, and then click OK again. You may be prompted to install les from your Windows
95/98 installation CD.Follow the instructions to install the les.
8. Click OK to restart the PC and complete the TCP/IP installation.
Next, congure the PCs to accept IP information assigned by the Modem:
9. Follow steps 1 - 3 above.
10. Select the network component labeled TCP/IP, and then click Properties. If you have multiple TCP/IP listings, select the listing
associated with your network card or adapter.
11. In the TCP/IP Properties dialog box, click the IP Address tab.
12. Click the radio button labeled Obtain an IP address automatically.
13. Click OK twice to conrm and save your changes. You will be prompted to restart Windows.
14. Click Yes.

Mac OSX 10.4
1. Click the Apple icon and choose System Preferences.
2. Click on the Network icon.
3. Set Location to Automatic and Show to Built In Ethernet.
4. Click on the TCP/IP tab.
5. In the Congure option, choose Use DHCP with automatic address.
6. Click on Apply Now.
Setting up your 3G Router
Having physically connected your 3G17Wn, the next step is to establish the broadband connection to the Internet. Please follow the steps
below to congure your 3G Router via the user interface.
1. Open your web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer/Firefox/Safari) and navigate to http://192.168.20.1/
2. Click Login and type “admin” (without quotes) in the Username and Password elds. Then click on Submit.
Note: admin is the default username and password for the unit.
3. Set up your WAN connection as follows:
For 3G connections
Note: Before proceeding with this step, ensure that your 3G USB Dongle has been plugged into the USB port of your 3G Router
To congure a 3G WAN connection, please follow these steps:
• Mouseover Internet Settings and click on 3G Internet Settings
• Select your location and mouseover choose your APN here and from the drop down list, select your APN.
Otherwise if:
• Your SIM card requires a PIN Code
• Your 3G broadband service provider requires you to input the username/password for your 3G connection.
• You wish to use other alternate 3G connection details (Such as a special APN)
Please enter the relevant information on this screen as provided by your 3G broadband service provider
3G Internet Settings
• Click Apply to save the settings
• If everything is congured properly, the Status page will show that your 3G service is online and the WAN IP address that has been
assigned.

For non-3G Connections
Note: Before proceeding with this step, ensure that your WAN connection has been plugged into the WAN port of your 3G Router
To congure a non WAN connection (Static, DHCP, PPPoE, L2TP, PPTP), please follow these steps:
• Mouseover Internet Settings and click on WAN
• Select your WAN Connection type from the dropbox (Static, DHCP, PPPoE, L2TP, PPTP)
• Enter the relevant information on this screen as supplied by your ISP
• Click Apply to save the settings
• If everything is congured properly, the Status page will show that your WAN service is online and the WAN IP address that has
been assigned.
