Overview
This document contains step- by-steps disassembly instructions for the Versa M400/PB E asyNoteM5 M7 chassi s. The inst ructions are illustrated w here neces sary with images of the part that i s bei ng removed or disassemble d. Furth ermore, the screws that are removed are shown next to the ima ge of the parts themselves.
NEC rese rves the ri ght to make cha nges to the Versa M400 chass is wit hout notice.
Technician Notes
Only technicians aut horized by NE C Computers Interna tional BV shoul d attempt to repair this equipment. All troubleshooting and repair procedures are d etailed t o al l ow only subas sembly/module level repair. Because of the complex ity of the i ndi vidual boards and subassemblies, no one should att empt to make r epairs at the component level or t o make modifications t o any printed wiring board. Improper repairs can cr eate a safety hazard. A ny indication of component replacement or printed wiring board modifications may void any warranty or ex change allowances.
Disassembly Instr uctions
When dis assembling the system unit, follow these general rules :
Do not disassemble the system into parts that are small er than those specified i n the instructions. Label all removed connectors. Note wher e the connector goes and in what position it was i nst al l ed. Turn off t he power and disconnect al l power and all options.
Reassembly Instructions
Reasse mbly i s the revers e of the disass e mbly pro cess. Use c are to ensure that all cables an d screw s are ret urned to their proper positions. Che ck that no tools or any loose parts have bee n l eft inside the chassis. Check that everyt hi ng are proper ly install ed and tight en ed.
Required Tools
All disassembly pro cedures can be perform using the following tools:

Hazardous Vol tag e
There is hazardo us vol tage pr ese nt inside the computer when it i s connect to an AC supply, even when the computer’ s pow er swi t ch is off. Exposure to haz ardo us voltage could cause personal injury. To avoid risk of injury, contact an Authorized Service Provider f or proper (un)installation of optional hardware devices.
Avoid Electrostatic Discharge
Electro st ati c electri cit y can easily damage cir cui t cards and integr ate d circui ts (ICs). To reduce ris k of damage, st ore them in pr otective pa ck aging whe never they are not installed i n your system.
Add-in cards can be extremely se nsitive to ESD and always requi re careful handling. After removing the card fro m the computer, pla ce the card flat on a ground ed, stati c-f re e surface, component-side up. Use a conductive foam pad if available, but not the card wrapper. Do not slide the card over any surfac e.
Bef ore y ou install or remove memory modules, video memory, disk drives, circuit cards or other devices, protect them from static electricity. To do so, make sure your computer’ s pow er swi t ch is OFF. Then, unpl ug the computer’ s AC power cord. Befor e picking up the devi ce y ou (un)ins t all, you shoul d wear an anti-stati c wrist wrap (avai la bl e at electro nic supply st ores). Be sure to connect the wrist wrap to an unpainted metal porti on of t he computer cha s s is. A s an al ter n at iv e, y o u can di s s ipat e e le ctro s tat ic build-up by touchi ng an unpaint ed metal porti on of the computer c hassi s with one hand. The n touch th e devi ce you are (un)i nstalling w ith the other ha nd, and mai ntain continuous contact with it until it is (un)installed in the computer.
Power Supply Unit
Under no circumstances shou ld you attempt to disassemb l e the power s upply. Th e power supply contains no userservi ceable part s. Insi de the power sup ply are hazar dous voltages t hat can cause s eri ous person al i njury. Always return a defe ctiv e power supp ly to your deal er.
WARNING
Ensure that the computer is di sco nnected from its power s ource and from all telecom mu nications links, netw orks, or mod em li ne s whe n ever the ch as s is co v e r i s re m oved. Do not operate the co mput er wi th the cover removed.
AVERTISSEMENT
