The SCSISelect utility is part of the sy stem BIOS in
addition to being on th e utilities diskette. Controller cards incorporating a PCI bridge chip
which does not conform to the specification for PCI version 2. 1 are not su pported. Fo r example, the SMC8434BT EtherP ower

adapter board . You cannot boot the server from the IDE CD-ROM if
the CD is a floppy image bootable CD. This ver sion of BIOS sup ports up to 333M Hz
processors.

BIOS

The following advisories apply when using the system BIOS:
When booting from the optional RAID, use the
SCSISelect Utility to disable th e AIC-7880 BIOS as described in the Configuring Your System chapter of your User’s Guide.
Pressing F2 to enter Se tup after th e “Press <F2> to
enter SETUP” message during boot time is only active while the system BIOS is running, not while the adapter BIO S (i.e., Adapte c or Myle x) is running.
During the BIOS IDE device auto detect, BIOS
Setup does no t display the attac hed slave (tape ) device, only the master (CD-ROM) is reported.
The SCSISelect utility is acce ssible as part of the
system BIOS in addition to being on the utilities diskette. During system boot up, the following prompt is display ed at the time the Ad aptec AIC­7860 and AIC-7880 SCSI BIOS is lo aded:

Press CONTROL + A to start th e SCSISelect Utility for the app ropriate SCSI BIO S.
When disabling ac cess to the SCSISelect Utility, the
SCSISelect utility should be used in c onjunction with the BIOS Setup u tility. Changin g the BIOS Setup utility “Allow SCSI Select” par ameter to Disabled prevents the u se of the SCSI Select utility, but the “Pre ss <Ctrl-A> for SCSI Se lect” prompt is still displayed. Chang ing the SCSISelect utility “Display <Ctrl-A> Message During BIOS Initialization” parame ter to Disabled pr events the prompt from being displayed. In combination these parameters c an be used to pr event acc ess to the SCSISelect utility during boot.

NetWare

Windows NT

The following advisories apply when using NetWare:
When installing NetWare v4.11, edit the
STARTUP.NCF as follows:
Change “L OAD MPS14.P SM” to “LOAD MPS14. PSM -A”
When installing NetWare 4.11 on server s that use 4
GB SCSI hard d rives, yo u might ge t a message that there is no DOS partition set to active. This message can be ignored.
IDE tape drives are not supported.
The following advisories apply when using Windows NT:

When installin g Windows NT w ith a SMC8416 LAN
card, use the driver on the Super disk 3.0. When using the IDE tape drive in Windows NT 4.0,
you can not do multi-tape backup and restores. Windows NT 3.51 r equires a set of f iles from Serv ice
Pack 5 BEFORE th e installation can be initiated. Windows NT 3.51 d oes not suppor t IDE tape drive s.

SCO
The following adv isories apply when in stalling SCO Open Server:
IDE tape backu ps and restor es can be don e as long
as the End of Tape condition is avoided. Appends to the tape are n ot supporte d.
When installing SCO UNIX 5.04 on a system w ith
an optional RAID , the Adaptec 7880 c ontroller mu st be disabled using the Resource Configuration Utility (RCU) and the BIO S disabled using the SCSISelect utility (both descr ibed in the Configuring Your System chapter of your User’s Guide). You also must use the driver on the diskette labeled “UNIX AIC-78X X Drive r v2.1”.

UNIX, in th e “Search for Network Adapte r” screen answer NO to the question “Do you w ish to search for a SMC8216/ 8416 Adapter?” The n contin ue with driver configuration.

There is a known problem with the curr ent driver
set when adding an SM C9332BDT to a system w ith a SMC8432BTA, or installing them at th e same time. The SM C8432BTA will not tran smit or receive.
When installin g an SMC9332BDT an d a SMC8432BTA togeth er in the same system, install the SMC9332BDT f irst and conf igure it in th e operating system per the SCO Configuration Guide. Next, powe r down an d install the SMC8432BTA an d bring the system up and configure the second card in the operating system.
When addin g an SMC9332BDT to a system with a SMC8432BTA already installed, yo u must first remove th e SMC8432BTA. In stall the SMC9332BDT and configure it in the operating system. Then re­install the SMC8432BTA an d re-con figure it in your operating system.
