Novell®NetWare®5.1
Advisories
This section contains advisories on the EXPRESSBUILDER, system hardware,
console redirection configuration, and system documentation.
EXPRESSBUILDER
The following advisory applies to EXPRESSBUILDER.
EXPRESSBUILDER EasySetup always configures the Windows 2000
!
TCP/IP Protocol IP settings to "Obtain an IP address automatically"
(DHCP), regardless of the IP address setting specified in EasySetup. If static
TCP/IP addressing is required, TCP/IP must be reconfigured. Refer to
Windows documentation for instructions.
After installing Windows 2000, the Windows 2000 Device Manager may
!
show an NEC GEM SCSI Processor Device and/or an Unknown Device
under Other Devices. The Unknown Device is a reference to the baseboard
management controller. Installing the ESMPRO Agent can clear both of
these conditions.
If you already have an operating system installed when creating a
!
maintenance partition, EXPRESSBUILDER will warn you of the existing
partition. If you want to preserve the installed operatin g system, do not
create the maintenance partition or the existing operating system will be
overlaid by the maintenance partition.
The Administrator Menu in the System Information Management segment
!
of the Offline Maintenance Utility is accessible only by NEC authorized
service representatives.
Express5800/180Rb-7 System Release Notes 3
EXPRESSBUILDER operates in floppy emulation mode. The emulated
!
floppy drive portion of your system CD-ROM is designated Drive A and the
remaining portion(s) of the CD-ROM is designated Drive Q. Your system
diskette drive is Drive B. After creating the Off-line Maintenance Utility
diskette, EXPRESSBUILDER prompts you to remove the diskette from
Drive B. At this prompt, remove the diskette from your diskette drive.
Always ensure that the "Console Redirection" feature in the BIOS Setup
!
Utility of your system is disabled prior to booting from the
EXPRESSBUILDER CD-ROM. Console Redirection must be re-enabled to
provide DPC console remote access once the EXPRESSBUILDER
CD-ROM is removed.
If any DOS command level errors in EasySetup or Custom Setup occur on
!
the Express5800/180Rb-7 the resulting error messages will not display on
the system monitor and the DOS bootable side of EXPRESSBUILDER will
appear to be frozen (unresponsive). Such error messages would occur if the
wrong media is mounted in the CD-ROM or floppy drives. If this condition
continues to occur you should verify that the proper media is mounted in the
CD-ROM or floppy drives.
System Hardware
The following advisory applies to the Plug and Play feature of your server's I/O
expansion boards.
The factory standard default value (Hot-Plug PCI Master Control) of the
Plug N Play feature in your server is enabled. The Windows 2000
operating system requires that the Hot-Plug PCI Master Control feature
be enabled. To disable it, if required by your operating system, the HotPlug PCI Master Control feature in the Advanced Submenu of the BIOS
Setup Utility described in Chapter 3 "BIOS Setup Configuration Settings"
can be changed to "disabled."

Console Redirection Configuration
The following advisory applies when using console redirection
configuration in your server system.
When configuring console redirection for Direct Platform Control
!
(DPC) the Emergency Management Port (EMP) access mode must
be set to "Always Active" for the DPC to function properly.
: The EMP access mode is normally set to
Note
"Disable" by default.
If using console redirection and booting from a Mylex RAID
!
controller, the option ROM scan for the Embedded SCSI PCI Device
must be disabled. Failure to disable the option ROM scan for the
embedded SCSI controller results in the POST error message:
"Expansion ROM not initialized - PCI Mass Storage Controller
Press <F1> to Resume, <F2> to Setup".
