Chapter 1NCR 4072 – One of the Best!
The NCR 4072 uninterruptible power system (UPS) protects your
sensitive electronic equipment from basic power problems such as power
failures, power sags, power surges, brownouts, and line noise.
Power outages can occur when you least expect it and power quality can
be erratic. These power problems have the potential to corrupt critical
data, destroy unsaved work sessions, and damage hardware — causing
hours of lost productivity and expensive repairs.
With the NCR 4072 UPS, you can safely eliminate the effects of power
disturbances and guard the integrity of your equipment. The NCR 4072
UPS’s flexibility to handle an array of network devices makes it the
perfect choice to protect your LANs, servers, workstations, and other
electrical equipment.

Chapter 2Safety Warnings
Read the following precautions before you install the UPS.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
This manual contains important instructions that you should follow during
installation and maintenance of the UPS and batteries. Please read all
instructions before operating the equipment and save this manual for future
reference.
This UPS contains LETHAL VOLTAGES. All repairs and service should be
performed by AUTHORIZED SERVICE PERSONNEL ONLY.ThereareNO USERSERVICEABLE PARTS inside the UPS.
This UPS contains its own energy source (batteries). The output receptacles
may carry live voltage even when the UPS is not connected to an AC supply.
For 220–240V models, t he output receptacles may remain electrically live. If
the input power source in your application is wired line-to-neutral (as in
most European applications), the voltage to the output receptacles is 0V.
With line-to-line input wiring, the voltage to the output receptacles is
110–120V (measured from line-to-ground or line-to-neutral, depending on
the UPS wiring).
Do not remove or unplug the input cord when the UPS is turned on. This
removes the safety ground from the UPS and the equipment connected to
the UPS.
To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, install this UPS in a temperature
and humidity controlled, indoor environment, free of conductive
contaminants. Ambient temperature must not exceed 40°C (104°F). Do not
operate near water or excessive humidity (95% max).
To comply with international standards and wiring regulations, the total
equipment connected to the output of this UPS must not have an earth
leakage current greater than 1.5 milliamperes.

Safety Warnings
CAUTION
The wall outlet must be within 2 meters of the equipment and accessible to
the operator.
Batteries can present a risk of electrical shock or burn from high
short-circuit current. The following precautions should be observed:
1) Remove watches, rings, or other metal objects; 2) Use tools with insulated
handles; 3) Do not lay tools or metal parts on top of batteries; 4) Disconnect
charging source prior to connecting or disconnecting battery terminals.
Proper disposal of batteries is required. Refer to your local codes for
disposal requirements.
Never dispose of batteries in a fire. Batteries may explode when exposed to
flame.
Never open or mutilate batteries. Released electrolyte is harmful to the skin
and eyes, and may be extremely toxic.
Replace batteries with the same number and type of batteries as originally
installed in the UPS.

SIKKERHEDSANVISNINGER
Denne UPS indeholder egen energiforsyning (batterier). Udgangsnetstikkene
indendørsmiljø, frit for ledende forureningsstoffer for at formindske risikoen

ADVARSEL!
ADVARSEL
overholdes.
Korrekt bortskaffelse af batterier er påkrævet. Overhold gældende lokale
regler for bortskaffelsesprocedurer.
Batterierne bør aldrig åbnes eller skilles ad. Udløst elektrolyt er skadeligt for

UPS and Battery Care
For the best preventive maintenance, keep the area around the UPS
clean and dust-free. If the atmosphere is very dusty, clean the outside of
the system with a vacuum cleaner.
For full battery life, keep the UPS at an ambient temperature of
25°C (77°F).
NOTE If the UPS requires any type of transportation in the future,
disconnect the UPS internal battery connector using the steps in “UPS
Internal Battery Connection” on page 18 in reverse order.
Storing the UPS and Batteries
If you store the UPS for a long period, recharge the battery every
6 months by plugging the UPS into a power outlet. The batteries charge
to 90% capacity in approximately 3 hours. However, it is recommended
that the batteries charge for 6 to 24 hours after long-term storage.
Check the battery recharge date on the shipping carton label. If the date
has expired and the batteries w ere never recharged, do not use the UPS.

This warranty applies to uninterruptible power system (UPS) products you purchase from NCR
Corporation (“NCR”) and use in the United States, unless you have another applicable written agreement

If your NCR product becomes defective within 3 years of the date of purchase, we will repair it or, at our
option, replace it at no charge to you. You may call the number listed below for dispatch of an NCR
service representative for on-site repair or replacement. All warranty service will be subject to NCR’s
standard policies.
If we repair your NCR product, we may use new or reconditioned parts. If we choose to replace your NCR

NCR PRODUCT OR ITS FAILURE TO WORK, OR ANY OTHER DIRECT, INCIDENTAL, OR
CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES.
Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, or the exclusion or limitation
of incidental or consequential damages, so those aspects of the above limitations or exclusions may not
apply to you.

To get warranty service for your NCR product, you must provide proof of the date of purchase. Call us
